Nitin Gadkari has announced a new cashless treatment scheme for road accident victims. Under this scheme, medical expenses up to 7 days after the accident will be covered, with a limit of up to Rs 1.5 lakh. It will be approved within 24 hours of the accident.
In case of death in a hit and run case, the victim's family will be given a compensation of ₹ lakh. This scheme was first started as a pilot project in Assam, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Puducherry.
Gadkari also said that in commercial and heavy vehicles, three new active safety measures are planned to be implemented: Electronic Stability Control, Emergency Braking System, and Audio System to Alert Driver in Drowsy Conditions. These are aimed at preventing road accidents and ensuring safety.
