Also, I'm going to tell you at the end how you can search, organize, and write a grant for free using AI. Have you ever wondered how much it costs to launch a business? Spoiler alert: even the small ones are not cheap. People like Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, and Bill Gates have been associated with and received government grants and contracts, particularly in the aerospace and energy sectors. In fact, Blue Origin today just went into orbit. You paid for that; they got $181 million and also $500 million to be able to do that. That was your tax dollars that helped him get there.
Elon Musk's Tesla company has received over $9 billion; $4.7 billion of that was just in Nevada. On average, small business owners drop about $40,000 in the first year. That's a ton of hustle, late nights, and coffee-fueled brainstorming sessions where you're actually paying to be in business. But what if I told you you don't have to do it alone? Governor Pritzker launched a $45 billion initiative to revamp Illinois's infrastructure. $3 billion was allocated to capital grants, and guess what? Small businesses like yours can tap into this money. Use it to get new equipment, boost your marketing, or even expand your operations. You're not just growing your business; you're creating jobs and strengthening the community. That's a win-win on steroids.
Also, throughout the entire United States, you can get a STEP grant, part of the SBA. I've covered that in other videos that you definitely want to check out. The SBA tends to land all over the place, but we got another one in Minnesota: the Emerging Entrepreneurs Loan Program. This program is built for women, veterans, minorities, and underserved groups with loans from nonprofit lenders. This program helps start-up and expand businesses. It's not just about money; it's about building a better community.
Imagine this: you've got the funds to open that café, launch that app, or bring in that invention and bring it to life. You're not just creating a business; you're creating an opportunity. Also, the National Institute of Health grants for those with health or tech—this is a golden ticket. NIH has funding for businesses related to biomed research. Deadlines stretch, and they'll be putting out this money long into the future, probably.
If you're looking to make a real social impact, the National Institute of Disability and Independent Living has grants to support ideas that improve lives. One of my favorite cities, where I have a place, is San Francisco. Accessibility grants for small business owners in San Francisco—listen up! You can get $10,000 to make your space more accessible, like ADA upgrades, new equipment, or even designing services to help them. The application process is quick and easy, so there are no real excuses not to get this extra money.
And why is this important? Here's the thing, guys: this isn't just about the money; it's about what the money can do. It's about removing those barriers, creating jobs, building something that lasts, and you stepping up and taking action. Now, if you're serious about grabbing these opportunities, here's what you need to do:
1. Keep a detailed financial record, whether it's grants or loans. Showing you're organized and prepared makes a huge difference.

3. Starting today, research these programs and begin applying. The longer you wait, the more opportunities you might miss.
So, here's my challenge: make 2025 the year you stop dreaming and start doing. Go after the grant, apply for the loan, and turn your vision into a reality. You see, the real secret to grants is just regularly applying over and over again and asking for feedback every time you don't get a grant. I know that sounds bad, but make sure you ask why.
Also, you want to go back and see who actually won the grant because it's publicized. They publicize who wins, but they don't publicize who loses—basically, it's just who wins. So, you want to go back and see what they said, what they did, and what it was about them that you think you can correct. Constantly correct your course.
Use ChatGPT. I'm telling you right now, it's absolutely amazing. That's why we integrated it into GR Velocity because AI is changing the game for people who want to get grants that weren't able to before because they just couldn't write it. A lot of times, people can deliver on the grant; they can deliver what the organization wants, but they just don't know how to write the grant.
Well, the grants are becoming much easier with AI. You can input the actual grant qualifications and needs, and it will put it together for you. It does a pretty good job, but you'll want to take that out and make modifications so that it sounds more human-like. ChatGPT still sounds like artificial intelligence, so you want to make sure that you put enough of yourself—maybe even some mistakes in there—so that it feels, looks, and smells like a real person.
You didn't just do it in ChatGPT. ChatGPT is a great place to start, but then you'll want to modify it to ensure that it isn't obvious that you used AI. Before long, a lot of people accepting grants are going to be afraid that you can't actually do what you say you can do. So, it's going to be really important to upfront tell them why you're the right person, why you're the right company, and that you have the experience to deliver exactly what they need regarding the grant.
Keep those things in mind, and remember to fail forward. Keep applying over and over again because even Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos have lots of people constantly applying. So just apply, spend the extra minute, take some time each night, and write it up and send it in. You'd be surprised—one day, your ship might come in.
