Someone told me that, according to psychology, the biggest problem for overthinkers is that when they get too attached to someone, their entire mood depends on how the other person responds to them. They are so attuned to other people's emotions that they can notice the slightest change in someone's behavior. Don't lie to an overthinker; it never ends well. Such people have trained their brains to look for holes in a story. If things don't make sense, they will think about it over and over until it makes sense.
Some people don't understand just how comforting reassurance can be to overthinkers. You would never hear them asking for it, but they want to have their what-ifs and doubts proved wrong. They want to know that you are willing to accept the kind of person they are, and they want to know that everything is going to be okay, even if deep down they know you are a genuinely good person. Our minds can wander to dark places.
