I've never edited a video on Instagram before, so I thought it would be difficult. There are many people who think so, and I often get asked for advice because I want to use Instagram just for posting on my feed. But now, reels are easy to grow regardless of the number of followers. Even if you have 800 followers, you can get 10,000 views. So, if you are serious about Instagram, you should definitely start making reels.
When I made my first reel, I was so bad at detailed work that I got goosebumps the moment I opened the editing software in Admin. I was thinking, "This is impossible," and I was allergic to all the detailed work, so I couldn't make any progress. But nowadays, you can easily create a reel with just your smartphone. You can do it with just your smartphone, so I just sat in front of my desk and took a picture. There's no need to sit down and get ready. You can even lie down on the sofa and sleep half asleep. It's fine even at home. You can do it at your favorite cafe or anywhere you feel comfortable. I hope you'll try it out.
This time, I'm going to recreate this reel I posted recently using just my smartphone. I will be explaining the steps in detail from the position while recording, so please forget about your worries about whether I can make a reel from today. Now let's make a reel. This time, I'll show you how to make a reel. In fact, we'll create two things: a reel and a cover image for the reel. That's exactly what Instagram's short videos are. The cover image for a reel is the image that will be the cover of the reel. It's like the cover of a magazine, and it's the image that you put on your account. This image is lined up in the post column.
Many people think that they don't need to set a cover image for their reels because it only appears on the reels on their profile page. But when people come to their profile and take the trouble to look at their profile, if they give me a cover image, it means they are interested in me. If there is no cover image, I don't know what each reel is about, so even if people come to my profile, they don't know which one to look at. You might go home without seeing the reel, but that would be a waste, so I will explain how to create this cover image this time.
First of all, I want you to prepare three materials to create the reel. What you need is a script for the video that will be the material for the reel, and an audio recording of the script. So, I want you to start by filming the video, but I'm going to tell you two things to be careful of when filming. The first is to shoot videos vertically, and the second is to shoot with variation.
First of all, the first point about shooting videos vertically is that reels are vertical videos. Also, on your smartphone, you need to shoot vertically, so you need to be careful about the ratio. This ratio is the vertical to horizontal ratio of the video, which is 16:9. Please check that the settings are correct before shooting. If you are shooting video with an iPhone, the ratio is automatically set to 16:9. If you are using a device other than an iPhone, the default ratio is different, so please check the settings before shooting. Let's make sure to check this ratio.
Next, regarding the second change, there are roughly two patterns for making this change: one where the camera moves, and one where the image is transferred to the camera. There is a pattern where you move, and the camera moves. In terms of patterns, you move the camera from right to left, left to right, up to down, down to up. This is done when you want to capture scenery or buildings, or when you want to capture a room. I often use it when I'm taking pictures inside a restaurant or a shop.
When I'm moving, I take pictures of myself eating or drinking something, or doing something. I use these two patterns well. If you do that, the image will change, and viewers won't get bored easily. If you keep shooting the same footage, you will soon get bored and skip the reel, so you need to be good at using patterns where you move the camera and patterns where you move yourself. At first, I didn't know what kind of shooting I should do, so I started by watching other people's reels, and then I gradually got used to it and improved. So if you have a chance to shoot, try to shoot as much as you can. Also, no matter how much video material you have, if you like it, please film it.
Next, I'd like to talk about the script. You write down everything you want to say in the reel in the script, right? You can just write it down in a memo app on your smartphone. By the way, these scripts are now being edited by AI. But you can make it by watching this video, which explains it. Once you have a script, you can record your voice reading the script with a recording app. You can record your voice using the recording app that comes with your smartphone.
Okay, if you have an iPhone, you can record using Voice Memo. When recording your voice, try to imitate the speed at which you read the script by referring to the speed at which the buzzing reels speak. I feel embarrassed about recording my own voice, and when I play it back, I'm shocked that it sounds like someone else's voice. But this is something everyone has experienced, and once you get used to it, it's like... Now that I've given you a brief overview of the preparations, I'll introduce you to the apps you need to edit your materials. The apps I'll be using this time are Bro and Canva. Which of these two apps is better? It is free to use, and Bro is an app that allows you to easily edit videos on your smartphone. Canva is an app that allows you to easily create images on your smartphone. You can use Pro immediately after downloading it, and you can use Canva immediately after registering your email address. If you haven't used it yet, let's download it.
I'll download Bro and Canva to my smartphone right away. If you don't have Bro and Canva on your smartphone yet, you can download it from the App Store or Google Play. Search for it and download it. I'll put both links in the description, so please take a look at them.
First, I'll explain how to use the blog. When you open the blog, you'll see a screen like this. If you tap the pink New Video button, you can immediately start making videos. When you tap the button, you can select the videos and photos you want to edit from your smartphone and click the pink right arrow at the bottom right. When you tap the icon, this screen will appear with the items Project Title, Screen Ratio, and Video Layout. You can enter a name that you can remember for this project name, but I'll put in the reel title, so that's fine.
The next thing I want you to pay attention to is the screen ratio, and you should choose 9:16. This screen ratio is the ratio of the reel. If you select anything other than 9:16, the orientation and size of the video will be strange, so please be careful. If you select 9:16, select Fill with video layout under the screen ratio and select the first one. Tap the pink Project Create button below. Then the Edit screen will appear.
First, learn how to use it. I'll give you a quick explanation. First, how to view this screen? The top part shows the video you just imported. This is called the timeline, so remember that. You can zoom in and out on this timeline with your fingers. You can adjust the size, so if you want to cut it into small increments, it's easier to do so by enlarging it. The arrow on the left goes back one frame, and the arrow on the right goes forward one frame. You can move the timeline left and right along the vertical red line. You can move it to select the one you want to edit. You can tap the play button on the left to play the video, so use it when you want to check the video.
Now, it's time to explain how to cut. First, select the video on the timeline. Please tap. When you tap, a green frame will appear like this, and below that will be the items you will use for editing. Here are the items you will use when cutting. It's easy to use, just tap the first part of the part you want to cut. Align the red line with the video, tap split, and then split it at the end of the part you want to cut. Then you can split the video like this.
Then select the part you want to delete and tap the trash can icon in the bottom left. I can erase it, but I'm in the middle of this. But you don't need it, so tap here, and then tap the trash can icon on the bottom left. You can delete it by tapping on it. But if you split it in the wrong place, or you deleted the wrong part, you can just tap on the button-like mark on the top right. Don't worry, it will go back. It's the same as the back button when browsing the internet on a smartphone or computer. Tap the left side to go back and tap the right side to go forward.
When adding your own recorded audio, you need to use the original audio that was included when you shot the video. Since we don't need the sound, we can select the clip and then tap the Meet button at the bottom to turn off the sound. There's one more clip I'd like to introduce, so tap this mark on the right side of the timeline. Then you can see a list of videos, and you can change the order of the videos here.
I think that even if I explain it just this much, it's still hard to imagine, so now I'm going to show you how to actually make your own reel. I'm currently recording the screen I use to operate the camera, and I'll be showing you how to do it all, so please use this as a reference to create a reel. I've already filmed and recorded the video and audio, so I'll edit the data.
Let's go, open the pro and check out the pink. Select the video that will be the material for the reel from the new video and tap the arrow at the bottom right. Select the screen ratio as 9:16 and the video arrangement as Fill to create a project. Now you can start editing. I'm going to use the audio I created, so I'm going to mute and erase all the audio that was originally in this video by tapping this icon in the menu at the bottom of the screen.
Next, I'm going to cut out the unnecessary parts of the video, but this time, my video I think about 45 seconds is enough, so I cut and adjust the length of the video so that it is 45 seconds in the end. I think about the length of the audio in the script. If you call, you can usually tell, so I recommend using the stop function on your smartphone to measure it. In my case, I called without any pause in my head and it was about 40 seconds, so I gave it a little time and cut it to 45 seconds.
So I'll pour the tea. It's long, and I think it might be boring, so I'll cut it a bit. The camera is shaking here, so I cut the first half, and the second half is a bit cut off because you can't see behind me. There is no change in the image, so cut it. This candy scene is out of focus at the beginning, so it's blurry. The second half is also long, with candy in the picture, so I'll cut it. If you make a mistake, you can go back by clicking the arrow in the upper right.
This is one minute, so I'll cut about 15 seconds. Now that it's 44 seconds long, the next step is to read the script, insert the recorded audio, and then cut out any unnecessary parts or mistakes. If you want to use audio that you've already recorded with Voice Memo, click on Done at the bottom center of the editing screen, tap on BGM under Media, then tap on My and then Import File to import the recorded audio data into your blog. Sometimes an ad will be displayed, but if you watch the ad until the end, you will be able to record the audio, so be careful not to close the app or watch the ad in the middle.
After you finish watching the ad, you can select a file, so tap the audio you want to record. You can paste it into the video by tapping the check mark at the bottom right. If the file does not contain your voice recording, open Voice Memos and tap the three dots to the right of the recording. Tap and then tap Share. Then, tap on the Save File button at the bottom, and then tap on the Save button in blue on the top right. You will then be able to select the audio from Import File on your blog, so give it a try.
Just like with video, you can tap the audio and divide it by tapping on the red line to erase the part you want to erase. I use this a lot when I want to cut out unnecessary pauses, so remember that. By the way, I'm a script god, so I'm going to cut a lot of stuff from here. Now, I'm going to cut out the unnecessary parts of the audio. There's a pause right at the beginning, so I'll cut it.
Then the cut portion will open, so select 1 with the vertical red line, tap the item "move here" from the menu below, and adjust the position. Repeat this process. The script is a bit off, but we can cut it as much as we want later, so even if we mess up, we can just repeat it. The video is longer, so we'll cut about 2 seconds of the video and make some final adjustments.
Okay, so this is it. I was also able to adjust the audio. It's fine to just add subtitles like this, but if we add more subtitles to the video and audio, the editing screen will get complicated, so we'll download the video first and then edit the downloaded video for the subtitles. So, tap on the Extract button on the top right to download it.
Then, a screen will appear where you can select the resolution and other settings. It may seem confusing at first glance, but you can just copy my settings, and you'll be fine. Extraction range is all, save location is album, format is default high quality, frame rate is 30, video codec is H265, complete alarm is on, and it's okay. When the download is finished, go back to the blog home screen and tap the new pink video again. Select the video you just downloaded and proceed to create a project.
When you tap the text menu at the bottom of the editing screen, there are various subtitle designs. You can use the one you like, but I use this one. I call the thing behind this text a "Zabuton" and recommend it because it makes the text easier to read regardless of the color of the image. After selecting the design, first tap Format from the menu at the bottom of the screen to change the color of the text and the color of the cushion.
I want to use white text on a black cushion this time, so I set the text color to white and the background color to black. Then reduce the number in the opacity item at the top. The video behind will be visible through, and the balance between the appearance of the video and the readability of the text will be better. Please try it out.
Next, you can change the font and text size, but if you leave it in the English text, I don't know what it will look like in Japanese, so tap Edit and try adding a part of the script. The text is obviously too big, so I'm going to adjust the size by pressing the arrow on the bottom right. Next, I'm going to choose a font. I think it's good to choose a font that matches the atmosphere of your account. But the font I usually use wasn't available on the blog, so I'll use a different font instead.
I'll adjust it while checking the size, and once the point and size are decided, I'll play the video by clicking the play button in the upper left. Adjust the length of the subtitle while reading the text you entered. Adjust the timing so that the subtitle disappears at the same time. The trick is to stop the video when the dialogue is finished, and then adjust the length by pressing the white part on the right side up to the red line.
Once you've done that, tap Duplicate from the menu at the bottom of the screen. A copy of the exact same text will be created behind the text you just created. Now, just change the text and add more text. Repeat this process until you've finished the script. I'm going to add all the lines as subtitles.
Once I've finished adding all the subtitles, I'll play it once to check if the timing is right, like 5 o'clock, and if there's no problem, I'll download it. Click on the "Extract" button in the top right. Tap to extract all, save to album, format is default high quality, frame rate is 30, video codec is H265, alarm is on, and download is complete.
Once the video is downloaded, you can then use Canva to create a cover image for the reel. As I mentioned at the beginning of the video, the cover image is like the cover of an Instagram reel. If you don't have a cover image, people who come to see your profile will actually not know what the content is until they play it. It's the same as if YouTube didn't have a thumbnail and the thumbnail was a clipped image from the middle of the video.
Why is this cover image coming? Make sure to create a reel that conveys what the content is about the moment the person who sees it sees it. It's easy to make one. Just choose a background image for the cover image and add the title of the video. If you are a beginner, you can register by choosing your email address, Apple ID, Yahoo ID, Google account, etc. from the registration screen that appears when you open the app.
Once you have registered, you can tap the plus sign in the menu below, and then select Instagram Reel Video from the new creation menu. You can also choose a design you like from the templates that appear, but this time I'm going to use a photo I took myself. So upload your photos to Canvas by tapping the Upload button at the bottom. Tap the purple Upload file button at the top to upload an image from your device's photo library.
Once uploaded, the uploaded photo will appear on the left side. But if you tap this, once the photo is pasted, let's adjust the size. You can adjust the size by tapping and moving the white circle on the edge of the image, so you can align the corners. By the way, Canva has a lot of free images. I think there are some people who want to use the free materials on Canva. In that case, select the material from the menu below, enter a keyword in the search box, and select the image.
Once the image is pasted, click the corner. Let's make it easier to read the text. First, tap the square in the shape area in the bottom right corner. A red square is now placed like this. Expand it to the whole screen. Just like you did when adjusting the size of the first image, press the white circle in the corner and adjust the size until it covers the whole screen.
Next, tap the color at the bottom to change it to black. Change the transparency and tap the item labeled Transparency from the menu below. The lower the transparency number, the more transparent the shape you just pasted will be. If you set it to around 50, the whole image will be darker. When you put white text in, it becomes much easier to read.
Now, let's actually put in some text. Tap on the text and tap on Add heading. Then the text will be pasted so you can understand the reason. Let's enter the text. This time, I'm going to start from 0 and type in "If you're going to use Instagram, do this." The font size is too big and looks choppy, so tap the font size in the menu below to adjust the size. About 70 is just right this time. Adjust each size to a size that is easy to read.
Next, I want to change the font design, so tap Font and choose your favorite font. I usually use this mode called Taminaga, so I'm going to use that this time too. When you select the font you want to use, a check mark will appear to the left of the font name, so if you can confirm the mark, tap the buzz mark in the upper right corner to check the text.
Now, start your business. However, the balance is not good, so if you do this, start your business with I'm going to make it look nice, but this is a bit too simple, so I'm going to add a heading as a beginner's guide. However, if I just add text normally, the gap with the original text will disappear, and it will look like a It's hard to read by sight.
So I want to add a shape here. Tap on the shape from the bottom menu, tap on this shape from the all view, and then adjust the size and position of the shape. If you hold it down and move it, you can easily adjust the position, so please try it. I'll make the color white so that it's more distinct, and I want to put some text inside this shape that says "Beginners at a Glance."
So, tap on the text in the menu below and select the heading. I'm going to add a must-see for beginners, but the text is too big. I want to make it a nice size, so I'm going to change the font size to 56. And then I'm going to add the cross and the heavy type. I tap and hold to adjust the position and place it in the center of the shape, but if the text and shape are the same white and overlap, it won't be visible.
So I want to change the text color to gray, so I tap the color in the menu, then tap the up arrow on the right. When you tap on the color, various colors will appear, so select gray here. I think many people use black here, but if you use gray, it will look more calm and match the overall tone. Give it a try.
Finally, adjust the position so that the text is as centered as possible. This will create a cover image. Now that it's complete, let's download it. Tap on this mark on the top right of the screen and tap on download. Now the file type is MP4, so change it to PNG and then tap the purple button Download. This completes the image download.
If you see a message like this saying Canvas is asking for additional access to your photos, you must select Allow to save them. Please turn it on. At this point, the creation of the reel and the cover image of the reel are complete. It may be very difficult at first, but once you get used to making it many times, you will be able to make it smoothly. So, keep watching the video and try your best.
Well, now I'm going to actually upload it to Instagram. So, when you open Instagram, tap the plus button on the bottom menu, and then select a video or reel to upload. Once you've selected the video, you can then select the background music. This is the setting. Right now, you can choose the BGM for the reel from this screen. You can tap the third music note icon from the left of the icons below to select a song, but you can also search for your favorite artist or song in this search box.
When you enter your name, it's easy to find, but when it comes to choosing BGM, you tend to just pick music you like. But actually, choosing BGM is more important than you might think. The key to choosing is to choose songs that other people are using to help them grow. It's easier to grow if you choose a reel from a trending genre. You can also look for reels in the same genre as you and try to imitate the songs that are popular.
This time, we're talking about original sound sources. So I want to use this song. By the way, this song has been used a lot recently for the reason of being popular. So I'll go back to the settings, but if you tap the song, the sound source will be pasted into the video, and you can set the timing of the song's start, etc. You can adjust the volume, so you can adjust it well.
Then, you adjust the volume. When you select BGM, you automatically cannot hear any sounds other than the music. If you forget to set this, you will have to work hard to record. If you do, you won't be able to hear your own voice, so be careful. Once you've selected the BGM, press the music note again. Then, this screen will appear, and the "normal" part of the BGM should now be circled in yellow.
Any part of the black area on the edge is fine, just once when you tap on it, the menu below will change. There are things like text and stamps, right? Tap on the volume on the right side, and you'll be able to adjust the volume of the background music and video audio. You can see that the audio for all clips is set to 0. This is the audio that was originally included in the video, but when you add background music, the audio for all clips is automatically set to 0.
So I'm going to adjust the volume properly here. On the other hand, if I leave the BGM as it is, it will be really loud, and if I upload it like this, it will be a big problem if the viewers' eardrums are ruptured. So I'm going to adjust the volume properly so that the viewers' eardrums are not ruptured. Once you've adjusted the volume, tap on the button that says "Done," and on the next screen, tap the blue right arrow in the upper left corner to enter a caption.
Then there's a button called "Edit Cover," so click here. Tap to set the cover image created with Canvas. After that, check the basic settings, and if there are no problems, upload it, and you're done. Yes, this is how I actually create my reel.
I've been explaining and showing you how to make a reel, but to be honest, it's easier than you might think. However, if you feel like it's difficult or that you can do it yourself but are anxious, the desire to take action becomes very heavy, and you may end up putting it off even though you think you'll do it someday. But I think you should start now, not someday.
By making a reel, you might find it surprisingly easy, or you might find it fun. Then you might change your mind. I think you will want to learn about reels, and as your knowledge increases, you will be able to achieve results on Instagram. I also have a slogan for my message: "Learning allows you to choose your life." I want to learn something, put it into practice, and gain knowledge.
I think that by increasing your knowledge, you will broaden your life. You all studied in elementary and junior high school, so you have been promoted one grade at a time.
