Hitting the gym in the AM compared to the PM is so much better. The usual thought of doing it in the morning is, "Damn, I'm going to be tired," but actually, it's the opposite; you get more energy. When you're training, it will release a hormone called endorphins. Endorphins will make you feel good, and they will energize you. In my personal experience, training in the morning is very beneficial.
With resistance training, why that is such an essential habit is the way I look at muscle as your long-term investment. It's so much easier for me to lose fat just because I have so much muscle. It's going to become even more important in your 30s, 40s, and 50s in your ability to burn fat. Building muscle isn't about how heavy the weight is; it is about the quality of the contraction and the relaxation of that muscle. Doing it with good quality and good form is essential so you can be efficient and you're not just wasting your time.
