Bless them in a hundredfold in their lives, in their work, and in their ministry.
Thank you for the many successes and failures you've sown into our Ateneo journeys. For teaching us to be fearless in doing what we have not done before, for showing us our gifts and our abilities, for bringing us to our limits. Without each and every one of them, we will not be here. Inspired by your servant Ignatius, may we indeed offer our lives for your greater glory and the salvation of souls. Nourish our heart that we may use our gifts to stand up for the marginalized, the powerless, the oppressed, and the voiceless.
And kindle in us the fire that compelled your saints to choose hope in the face of despair. Make us a hopeful people that we may continue the mission of bringing hope in a world filled with despair. Make us love people that we may lift those drowned in apathy. Make us a faithful people that we may continue believing, especially when it is difficult.

Friends, this 10th of June in the year of our Lord 2024, in the 65th year from the establishment of the Ateneo de Manila University, in front of the members of the Board of Trustees, the President of the university, in front of our guests, teachers, and administration officer, alumni, parents, and friends, I officially begin the graduation program of the Gokong Wei Brothers School of Education and Design and the Humanities School of Higher Education of the Ateneo University. Manila, in the year, it has a total of 254 candidates who will graduate this afternoon, including eight Master’s and eight Master of Arts at the Gokong Wei Brothers School of Education and Design, of Non-Religious Education, and a Doctor of Ministry; three Doctors of Philosophy, 20 Master’s, 205 Master of Arts, 100 Bachelor of Arts, and 100 Bachelor of Fine Arts in the School of Humanities.

Friends, the President of the Ateneo University de [Applause]
Manila. When first-year students arrive on campus, they are welcomed by the green spaces, the vast resource library, the vibrant and exceptional athletic programs, diverse student organizations, and a community of dedicated and warm-hearted faculty and staff.
They form new connections, gain mentors, and pursue their passions. However, you, the class of 2024, faced unique challenges, especially during your Ateneo journey in 2020. You could not experience these opportunities in the traditional face-to-face manner. Instead, you had virtual classrooms and found online ways to connect with peers and professors.
The past four years have been filled with unexpected twists and turns. The pandemic presented challenges that tested your resilience in unique ways. Whether you are an undergraduate or a postgraduate student, you stretched your limits. You had to adapt to two years of online classes, and just when you were getting used to seeing your classmates and professors on a computer screen, a glimmer of hope appeared.
You transitioned into a hybrid learning environment and then onsite classes—a testament to your adaptability and perseverance.
Class of 2024, your journey has been unique and challenging, and I am deeply grateful and proud of you. Despite the unprecedented circumstances, you have not wavered in the face of adversity. You have demonstrated courage, a spirit of teamwork, discipline, resilience, generosity, and grace.
A Latin phrase comes to mind: Age Quad Agis, which translates to "do what you are doing." To focus on the task and give your all, you did that—dedicating yourself to completing and excelling in your studies even during these complicated and distressing times.
And look at you now, in caps and gowns with proud smiles, ready to take on the world.
But this journey was not yours alone. It was a collective effort—a testament to the love, guidance, and support of your loved ones, families, friends, professors, and mentors.
To your loved ones, I wish to express my deepest gratitude. Thank you for entrusting their education to us, but most of all, thank you for being their pillars of strength, cheerleaders, and guiding lights. Your unwavering support has been instrumental in their success. We are truly grateful.

Four years ago, we had no idea what COVID was and how it would affect our lives, embroiling us in turbulent times. Just as the unpredictable events of the past years have illustrated, we still do not know what lies in the future.
But I am confident that you will be able to face and weather the storms of life. Ateneo de Manila has imbued in you the skills and aptitude to help you engage the world as boldly, intelligently, creatively, imaginatively, innovatively, and humanly as you can.
Class of 2024, we count on you to use your gifts, talents, and strengths to serve others. It is our hope that as you move forward in your personal and professional journey, you will never lose sight of your Ignatian values.
These values—such as Magis, Cura Personalis, and Finding God in All Things—are not just words but guiding principles that will help you navigate the complexities of life. May you see every moment as an opportunity to encounter God and feel his compassion, grace, and mercy, hopefully leading you to live a life for his greater joy and glory.
Like you, I also began my service as President in 2020. I arrived here when we were on lockdown and we were in online mode, and so the class of 2024 is the first class that has completed all its four years under my stewardship. Therefore, I also consider myself a member of the class of 2024.
Before we part ways, please allow your University President to give you a final blessing.
