So I was just chilling, relaxing, and I got a phone call telling me that I need to immediately fly to China. Not tomorrow, not the next day, but right now. My assistant just sent me all these options in order to get onto a flight, and now I've got to suddenly pack while I was just sitting over there watching a movie, chilling, relaxing.
It's the end of the night; it's literally 11:33 p.m., and I was pretty much getting ready for bed. It could have happened on a worse day because I've barely slept the last few days, and I've just been exhausted and tired. The last thing I want to do is go to the airport. The last thing I want to do is hop on a flight. The last thing I want to do is go to China right now. Not because I don't like China; I love China.
I actually used to live in Shanghai, I used to live in Hong Kong, I used to live in Tokyo. I've lived all across Asia, and I'll dive into that in some other videos. Now I've got to pack, I've got to get ready, and head to the airport. Amazing.
Okay, so just as I was finishing up packing, I realized that Microsoft and Google were releasing their earnings. I quickly logged into my laptop because I knew that I wanted to buy both of them because I thought that they both had a strong chance to go up. I didn't want to do anything too massive, so I was like, I'll put $1.1 million in both.
As I logged in, there was one minute to spare before the market closed. It was 11:59 p.m. here in Dubai, and the market would close at 12:00 a.m. So I logged into my account and then quickly placed orders at $1.1 million for both. I didn't realize that they weren't market orders, so they were both set on limit, meaning that it has to hit that price in order for me to buy it.
I think that it's going to fill because it usually does, and then I check the market's closed. Only one of those filled was Microsoft, and the other, Google, didn't fill anything. Microsoft didn't fill the $1.1 million; it only filled $439,000.
So you can see here, $439,000, daily profit is $22,000 because Microsoft went up 5% in after-hours because they beat their earnings. Google, which didn't fill anything, zero, is up 13%. So now you're looking at this, right? You're going, all right, this guy just made $22,000, but I tried to get $1.1 million.
So technically, I think about how much I lost here and then how much I lost with Google. Even though I didn't lose anything, I think about what I could have made, and that's the problem. I would have made over $200,000 on these earnings. So I think about the $200,000 that I would have made, and that's the problem.
The problem is not losing; sometimes I get more emotional and upset about the potential money that I could have made rather than losing. Sometimes losing doesn't make me feel anything, and the amount that I could have made makes me feel the worst.
