Ayan, we're recording. Hi everyone! This is chapter 4, where we would be discussing another theorist and another theory.
Ano ba ang overview nito? Si Carl Jung ay isang feast na associate, na follower ni Freud in the beginning. But later on, he was able to create his own personality theory. He is from Switzerland and is the oldest surviving child of an idealistic Protestant minister.
Basically, yung mga area of interest ni Jung are on philosophy and spiritual subjects that led many to view him as being mystic. Mystic daw yung mga pananaw ni Jung. Although ang kanyang personal preference, per personal preference as to biographers, was siya daw ay isang man of science. Pero, Jung is neither a theologian nor a mystic.
Maaaring sinasabi nila that since the family of his mother has a tradition of mysticism, maaari daw na his viewpoint is more on the mystic side. Pero actually, his view is consistently skeptical and scientific. He does not seek to convince his reader that mystical and religious claims are true.
Okay, si Jung ay isa ring nagdecide na maging physician after dreaming of making scientific discoveries. He also became an assistant to Eugene Bleuler. He read Freud's writings, and it's safe to say na naintriga siya. They began corresponding through letters, they became good friends, and Freud saw Jung as his successor, parang tagapagmana, parang next in line to lead the society for the believers ng psychoanalytic theory.
Pero something happened in 1909. Ayan, si Jung at si Freud ay nagkaroon ng long week trip, and they began interpreting each other's dreams. So, in a nutshell, basahin niyo yung kabuuan. I don't want to stay too long dito sa biography niya, pero it's interesting yon.
So, Freud being Freud, kasi ang sabi niya sa panaginip niya, there are two human skulls, very old, and have this disintegrated. Fast forward, syempre ang tipikal na explanation or interpretation ni Freud is that death, sex, aggression. Pero hindi siya pumayag.
So, marami ang naging consideration at sabi niya, this is not what he expected. Jung told Freud that at some point, he wished his wife and his sister-in-law dead because those were most believable.
Pero later on, yung interpretation of his dream was a talk. So, ano yung talk? Pag-usapan ay basahin na lang, ano. Pero it was a talk kasi that led to a realization at some point na sabi ni Jung, may dalaw, parang may ibang aspect yung pagkatao ko.
Based sa experiences din niya sa mother niya, it seemed though na merong iba ang pinapakitang behavior si mama. One, I believe it's warm. Ang ganang description niya. One is parang very cold. Ang may descriptions are corre, kumbaga may opposite pero iisa yung tao. Parang sinasabi niya, later on, fast forward, na even in choosing partners, even in choosing the one to share my life with, um, there is no one person that could actually respond to the needs of one person.
Parang may duality at some point na reflected naman ito na mayroong dalawang wives itong si Jung, if I remember it correctly. Yung needed women other than his wife. At isinulat niya kay Freud na the prerequisite for a good marriage, it seems to me, is the license to be unfaithful.
Noong almost after immediately daw ng correspondence ni Jung at ni Freud, yung trip na iyon ay nag-emanate na theoretical misunderstanding nila or differences nila. Medyo nanlamig yung relationship nila. Ganon. I like the term na their friendship cooled. Yun yung nakalagay sa book natin.
Tapos si Jung nag-resign siya as the president ng organization, and shortly afterward, he withdrew his membership in the International Psychoanalytic Association.
So, itong mga event na to ay naging mahirap. No, Jung's break with Freud may have been related to events not discussed doon sa book na "Memories, Dreams, Reflections." Kasi 1907, Jung wrote to Freud of his boundless admiration for him and confessed that his veneration has something of the character na parang religious crush. Siguro dito nag-emanate yung ano ba talagang naging relationship nila.
Parang ang description ng ibang mga writers, no, ay yung tone down ng pagsusulat ni Jung ay undeniably merong erotic undertone. Kasi Jung continued to say or to confess na this feelings daw come from the fact that as a boy, sabi niya, I was a victim of a misfortune about a man that he worshipped.
So, parang ano, nandoon may sulatin about it. Pero ano yung point dito? May pinagdaanan sila. No, it began with a personal, ah, it began with a theoretical indifference that led to the disenchantment of their relationship.
Itong creative illness na to is a term coined by a biographer. Ito daw pinag-after nito, right after their wake-up, yung creative illness, katulad nung self-analysis ni Freud. They were searching for themselves.
No, Freud, ito yung sa panahon ni Freud or sa theory ni Freud, ito daw yung reaction ni Freud to the death of his father. No, while Jung naman, it's as a result of his split with his spiritual father. So, parehas silang nag-undergo ng sadness, ng loneliness, and both were deeply changed by this experience.
Although yung journey daw ni Jung into the unconscious was painful, it was also a process that was needed for him. Kasi marami siyang na-discover, marami siyang naalaman about himself. Um, by using dream interpretation and active imagination, nagkaroon siya ng journey to understanding.
Ano ba yung self niya at understanding ano ba yung unique or creating his own unique theory of personality.
Ayun. Okay, so yun yung nutshell ni Jung.
Din yung concept na we are both male and female, we're both introvert and extrovert. We both male and female may some level of homosexuality sa atin dahil we possess what we call feminist traits and masculine traits regardless ng iyong sex.
No, sige, let's go on to his major personality concepts. So, he had the concept of libido. Kanino nga ulit natin to narinig? They are corresponding with each other.
Yun nga lang, kapag may nakita sila na certain difference sa kanilang paniniwala sa kanilang theory, they are actually free to tweak it.
Let's go to the term psyche. Psyche is a term used for personality.
So, ego for him is the center of consciousness. Okay, again, ego is the center of consciousness. So, para kay Jung, we invest a certain amount of libido or psychic energy to certain ideas or certain feelings, and this strongly influences our life.
Okay, the levels of personality.
Okay, ano nga ulit yung psyche? It's personality. It's the levels of personality.
No, but it came from the distant past of human existence. No, of lesser importance daw to yung theory are the conscious and the personal unconscious.
So unahin natin yung conscious. Okay, this is conscious.
Okay, so ano po ba, ma'am, yung conscious?
Whereas yung mga unconscious elements have no relationship with the ego. When it's different, no, para kay Freud.
Anyway, so yung notion ni Jung na yung ego is more restrictive. Yung notion of the ego is more restrictive than Freud. Kasi kung sabi niya, it's the center of personality, but not the core.
Ego is not the whole personality, but it must be completed by the more comprehensive self. The center of personality, mamaya ko yung concept niya ng self.
Okay, so in short, ego is the center of consciousness. Ayun lang.
Okay, next, let's go to personal unconscious. So, yung unconscious ay may dalawang level. No, conscious, collective unconscious, at personal unconscious.
Pag sinabi nating personal, ayan, personal.
Okay, so our personal unconscious is formed by our individual experiences. Therefore, yung individual experiences na yan, it's unique to each one of us.
Halimbawa daw, yung nasa book MOA, yung gagamitin kong example, no, a person's experiences, yung experience mo sa mother mo, may become grouped around an emotional core.
So that yung person's mother o yung mama mo, or even the word mother, ay ang emotional core mo pagdating sa mother. Kasi nga, ito ay something that is personal.
Again, complexes may be partly and may be partly conscious at pwedeng galing ito sa personal unconscious at collective unconscious.
Okay, I hope I'm helping you get through or follow through yung concept ni Jung.
It would make sense. Ah, nabuo natin yung theory. Sunod naman po, yung collective unconscious.
Okay, ito pong collective unconscious, dito sumro yung kanyang theory. So, kung ang personal unconscious, most ng content nito, yung mga complexes ay galing sa individual experience, ang collective unconscious po, as compared to personal, ay may root sa ancestral past natin.
This is similar to what Freud coined na phylogenetic endowment. If you remember it, phylogenetic endowment.
Kasi sabi niya, yung collective unconscious are inherited and, [Musika] napa-panahon, are more or less the same for people in all cultures.
Pero, ah, itong content ng collective unconscious is not dormant. What you mean not dormant? It's not inactive. No, it influences us in a lot of aspects, like in the way we dream, in the way we believe things should be.
Yung ano, ah, para kay Jung, it also produces big dreams. Ano yung big dreams? Dreams with meaning beyond the individual dreamer.
You mean parang yung mga nang, "How do you know that you're nangungusap?" O kaya may sign.
Ma'am, ayan. Yung para kay Jung, yung collective unconscious does not refer to yung mga namana na idea. But rather, ito yung innate na tendency natin to react in a particular way.
Parang um, i-go through ko. Halimbawa daw, merong young mother. Yung young mother na yon may unexpectedly react with love and tenderness to her newborn infant.
No, so ito yung tendency daw to respond to a certain situation ay may blueprint tayo.
Yung blueprint na to, yung woman's innate potential to respond to this in this way are what we call yung inherited blueprint.
Saan to galing?
So, like, ah, ang mga tao, like other animals daw, can come into this world with inherited dispositions or predispositions.
Ah, another example din, ano, Amanda who falls in love at first sight, no, may be greatly surprised and perplexed by his own reaction. Di ba, ma'am? Love at first sight.
And you don't even know her. Parang lahat ng standard, ma'am, no, love at first sight ako eh.
E yung babae daw na na-attract ka or na-love at first sight ka, may not resemble yung idea mo ng ideal woman. Pero there is something that attracted me to you.
No, sabi ni Jung, we have many.
Tapos later on, papalakihin nila to, tapos magiging mabuting bata.
Tapos mamaya, parang "Mar Clara." "Mar Clara" plot is na yung mayaman pala ay mahirap, yung mahirap ay mayaman.
No, may mga ano na tayo, may mga nabubuo within the culture na pag nakita mo yung plot, ay alam ko na to.
So, ano daw yung mga, ano po, yung mga existing na predisposition tayo? No, at first, sabi ni Jung, sa kanyang theory, ito ay mga forms without content.
Ito ay nagrepresent ng possibility of a certain type or perception or action. At kapag naging repetitive na siya, we begin to develop some content.
At later on, it becomes autonomous. Yung content ng ating collective unconscious that becomes autonomous is what he termed as archetypes.
Siyan, this is the conscious, personal unconscious, and unconscious. Ang content ng collective unconscious, ano na siya, consistent, repetitive, it becomes an archetype.
Personal unconscious, complexes yan. So, ano po ang ego? It pala, ayun, ito yung ego. It's the center of consciousness.
It's concerned with conceiving, thinking, feeling, remembering. It's the awareness of the self. It carries, um, the activities of the waking life.
At dito na-process yung mental attitudes natin, yung introversion at extroversion. So, note niyo, binanggit ko ba kanina? Wala, hindi ko pala.
I think binanggit ko na meron tayong ini-invest na certain amount ng psychic energy, no, yung libido. So, para kay Jung, um, this is how we process.
Ano may mga types tayo tinatawag. So, first sa types, we have the attitudes and the functions.
Attitudes and the functions, yung attitudes and functions operates as pairs of opposites and they compensate. Ito mga compensatory tendency.
So, according to Jung, whichever attitude dominates, ano ka ba? Objective ka ba? Subjective ka ba? Ayan, it will manifest.
Ano po? So ganito muna. P sinabi kong objective, ikaw ay extrovert. Ma'am, bakit? You turn your psychic energy or your libido or your life energy outward.
Okay, pag ikaw ay introvert, you are subjective. No, you turn your energy inwards. So, iba to doon sa dini-discuss natin sa trait theory na, ah, pag sociable ako, ano ako, extrovert ako, I love people. Yun lang sociability lang kasi ang definition.
Pag introvert ako, ah, ano ako, um, I do not like people or I want to be alone. Again, i-note niyo na ang introverts para kay Jung, depende kasi we're both of this.
We're both introvert and extrovert. But the thing is, kung merong, ano, merong mas dominant diyan, yung opposite.
Are you more of the objective type or are you more of the subjective type?
Kasi if you're more of the objective type, it will tend to repress yung subjective aspect mo.
No, so yung mga introverts para kay Jung are turned to their inner world with all its biases, with all its fantasies, with all its dreams.
And yung kanilang mga individualized perceptions, they perceive the external world. Of course, no, mahirap yung walang perception sa external world.
But they selectively do it with their own subjective point of view.
Ayan, so in contrast to extroversion, yung introversion is the attitude distinguished by the turning outward. Ayan, kung makikita niyo yung arrow natin diyan, turning outward of psychic energy.
So that a person is oriented toward the objective and away from the subjective. So, what are you?
Ah, mamaya, idi-discuss ko yung stages of development ni Jung. Meron siyang sinasabi na in the beginning of life, we tend to be more objective.
That's when we learn things, we get to encounter people. You listen to me, you learn from people around.
But later on, as you reach the middle stage of life, you get to have your own subjectivity already.
So from extrovert, nagiging introvert ka. You're turning your psychic energy inwards. And it's not, again, it's not about not wanting to be with people.
It's not about sociability. Tatanungin ko kayo diyan, is introversion and extroversion ni Jung the same with sociability? The answer is no. It's overly simplistic if you would answer it as yes.
Okay, yan. So we're good with attitudes. Let's proceed to functions. So, ano ang sa Jungian theory? It's paired.
So either you're subjective, you're introverted or extroverted. Ngayon, so may function. So, yung dalawang iyon, there are how many attitudes? Dalawa.
There are how many functions? Four. Again, are there how many attitudes? Dalawa. Okay, there are how many functions? Apat.
Kasi usually nalilito. Ma'am, ano ilan po ba? Li is 10, 2 at 4. Ang tatandaan ninyo.
So ano po yung 2 attitude? Okay, ano po yung function? Okay, yan. So ano po ba ang mga function na to?
Okay, ah, ang function, functions, functions, apat to. Okay, we have sensing, thinking, feeling, and intuition.
In a nutshell, sensing tells people that something exists. Ma'am, what do you mean? It's the function that receives physical stimuli.
Kaya nga siya sensation. No, but sensing is not identical to the physical stimulus, but it's simply the individual's perception of sensory impulses.
So, ung perceptions natin dito are not dependent on logical thinking, but it exists as something absolute.
Okay, mamaya, iano natin. Ipag logical, intellectual activity that produces a chain of ideas, it's thinking.
So, the thinking type can be introverted or extroverted, depende sa basic attitude ng tao.
So, pwedeng yung sensing din ay introverted or extroverted. Ma'am, sunod, feeling.
Use the term feeling to tell the value or worth of something. Okay, it's the process of evaluating an idea or event.
Perhaps yung more accurate down na word would be valuing para daw ah hindi tayo maconfuse sa sensing or thinking.
For example daw, kapag sinabi ng tao that this surface feels smooth, smooth siya, or this screen feels smooth, then what are you using? The sensing function.
Okay, pero pag sinabi natin that I have a feeling that this will be a lucky day, it's not feeling pa din. What's this? It's thinking.
Yung pangapat natin, intuition. Ma'am, ano po ba yung intuition? Intuition tells us or allows us to know about something without knowing or without having a concrete evidence.
Parang sinasabi, iba talaga yung intuition ng babae. Ano, could we say gut? Siguro sa panahon ngayon, pwedeng G siya.
Pero para kung kasi intuition eh, no, like sensing, it is based on the perception of absolute elementary facts. One that provides raw material for thinking and feeling.
Pero ang intuition differs from sensing that it is more creative. Um, it's adding or subtracting elements from the conscious sensation.
Okay, may intuition kasi ako. Gets niyo? Kung ibabalik, i-compare natin kay feeling. Intuition, layo kay thinking.
May relying ka on the logical sense, on what you think is rational. Pero kay intuition, you could intuit ng wala kang rational basis.
No, I have an intuition that [Musika] um, there's something wrong. Sige, i-elaborate pa natin.
Ano, isa-isahin natin yan. So when we talk about, ano kasi, um, pinagcombine natin siya, we would come up with something like this.
You will see yung attitudes natin, pine natin siya sa function. Introverted thinking, ang tawag. Extroverted thinking, iun ko.
Sabi natin, yung thinking, it produces a change of ideas, logical intellectual ability that produces a chain of ideas when you think.
So, ang extroverted thinkers, dahil extroverted sila, they rely on concrete thoughts.
Okay, but they may also use daw abstract ideas if this has been transmitted to them from the outside. Halimbawa, from, um, yung from parents or teachers.
They make frequent use of extroverted thinking in their work.
Like yung mga accountants din daw, they're more reliant on what? On the objective, on numbers, and not on their subjective approach.
It's a talk of objectivity.
Okay, um, introverted thinking. Yung mga introverted thinkers daw, they react to external stimuli.
But their interpretation of an event is somewhat, ang term sa book ay colored by their internal meaning.
Ang example nito, inventors and philosophers, they are often introverted thinkers because they may react to the external world in a highly subjective and creative manner, interpreting all data in newer ways.
Kaya nga inventor, e. When carried down to an extreme, introverted thinking results in unproductive mystical thoughts.
Yan, yung exact na sinabi that are so individualized, there are useless to other people or to any other person.
So ganon natin siya iprepare, ha. Meron itong actual explanation sa ano natin, sa book natin. Kindly go through yung mga ibig sabihin kapag introverted feeling, extroverted feeling.
But basically, that's how we look at it. Okay, so yun yung ano niyo, no, reading task niyo.
So that we would be able to finish this chapter, meron akong, ano, merong sumikat na test. Are you familiar with MBTI? Myers-Briggs Type Indicator?
Baka pina ito sa inyo noon nung senior high school kayo by Isabel Briggs Myers and her mother, Katherine Briggs.
Ah, ginamit nila yung psychological types ni Jung so that it may be useful or it may be understandable.
Um, itong test na to is one of the most commonly used personality tests sa different fields.
Ganun.
Anong psychometric property? Hindi sulit na may mga ganong usapin. So there is a need to look for ah, the reliability and validity ng mga test na ginagamit niyo.
No, um, I could ask you to try an assessment dito sa link na to, and I could send this.
Take it para lang may idea. May mga explanation yan. Baka nakapag-try na rin kayo.
Ito yung ang product ay ESFJ, INTP. Siguro you would have more appreciation nito in the future pag nabasa niyo na yung buo ng theory.
So anyway, balik tayo kay personal unconscious.
Similar to the preconscious of Freud, but may mga certain, ano sila, um, exploration or definition.
But it has a similar concept. And the collective unconscious, no, it's the deepest level of the psyche containing the accumulation of inherited experiences of human and primate species.
Again, this is not yung mga archetype na marami kasi ang archetype, e. No, it's we have the persona, the anima, animus, shadow self, hero, wise old man.
Isa-isahin ko yan. Hindi siya yung parang, "Oh, I'm the shadow. Oh, I'm the persona. I'm the anima. I'm the animus." Walang ganon, ano.
Okay, ang archetypes po are what he termed as universal images of universal experiences contained in the collective unconscious.
It's also known as primordial experiences. Yung archetype is the psychic counterpart to an instinct.
Pero it is different from instinct kasi ang instincts are defined as an unconscious physical impulse toward action.
So, archetypes have a biological basis, pero nag-originate siya sa repeated experiences ng human, yung e ng early ancestors, early human ancestors natin.
Okay, as animals of the same kind show the same instincts, no, instinctual phenomena all over the world, yung mga tao din ay meron ding some level or may some form of archetypal form.
No, ang archetypes, again, ay may biological basis, but it originated through the repeated experience natin sa ating early ancestors.
Okay, so the potential for countless number of archetypes exist within a person.
Okay, first, what's this? It's the persona archetype.
Ma'am, ano po yang persona? Is it something that we should be scared of? Hindi po. No, kasi kay Jung, ang persona is the side of our personality that people show to the world.
No, the term is well chosen daw because it refers to a na-prinesent. Pine-pray yung, yung number one persona.
No, um, yung concept of the persona ay pwedeng galing doon. Yung persona may number one persona si mama, may number two persona si mama, or aspect o pinapakita si mama.
So each of us, para kay Jung, ay meron tayong pino-project na particular role that the society dictates.
No, halimbawa, pag teacher, dapat laging naka-smile.
O kaya yung physician daw would adopt a characteristic ng bedside manner.
O yung isang politician daw, dapat ano, nagso-show tayo ng some level of confidence.
No, may ano, may certain expectations. No, at yun yung minas natin.
Yun yung ginagawa natin. So, although daw yung persona is the necessary side of personality, we should not confuse our public face with our complete self.
Kasi if we identify too closely with our persona, we remain unconscious kung sino ba talaga tayo.
Pero kapag nag-over-identify ka naman sa persona mo, you lose touch with your inner self.
So, para kung para maging psychologically healthy ka, we should check a balance between the demands of society and what we truly are.
No, what do you mean? Pero not because I'm a teacher, I'm always right.
You need to put that down. You're a lot of things.
And you adjust your persona depende sa situation.
Uh, even though si Jung ay nag-struggle, no, to remain in touch with his persona, he knew na dapat meron siyang normal life.
No, meron siyang [Musika] ah, may family siya. Pero later on, yung iniisip niya or parang naging struggle niya was that I'm a doctor.
No, I'm a husband. So, when to drop these things? When?
No, ayokong, ano, ayokong iwan yung family na to kahit na may, ayokong basagin, masisira yung family kapag ginawa ko to.
Pero halimbawa, may kailangan ka ng i-report, like you're, ah, excuse me lang. No, you're in a situation where may harm.
We need to drop a persona. O yung persona mo, baka kailangan mong maging protector, eh.
How do we adopt the characteristic of that particular persona? You're not just a student, you're also a human being. You get tired.
Ah, we're not just a psych major, you're also a daughter. No, you're also, or you're also a son. You're a lot of things other than your public face.
Sunod, shadow. Mm, the shadow archetype, it's the dark side of personality.
No, the shadow is the archetype of darkness and repression. Ah, para kay Jung, it represents those qualities we do not wish to acknowledge but attempt to hide from ourselves and other people.
Okay, ah, para kay Jung, para maging buo ka, to be whole, we must continually strive to know our shadow.
And that is the first test of courage. Tandaan niyo yan. It's the first test of courage to what? To know your shadow.
Kasi it's easier to project the dark side of our personality to others. No, to come in contact with the darkness within ourselves.
Ah, unfortunately, hindi daw po ay nare-realize yung shadow, pero ina-add come under its power and lead tragic lives, constantly running down into bad luck.
May ganon pa siya, e.
May daw na you project who you are or yung characteristics na meron ka onto others.
You see it, you see the ugliness in people that we refuse to see. Or ngingiti pa, ngingiti pa. Ang tanong, inaano ka ba? Ba't ka naiinis? Kasi ang harot, eh.
Talaga ba? Baka may ibang interpretation, baka pino-project mo.
No, yan, magjojoke dito. Nakakata pag ano, hindi face to face.
Anima, anima, animus. Ma'am, ano ba yang anima na yan? Anima, it's the feminine side of men.
Anima, animus. Anima, vagina. Yun yung palatandaan niyo. Ah, feminine, animus, penis.
Okay, so yan ang palatandaan. Kasi nakakalito yan pag nag-exam kayo. Ano nga sa babae, anong sa lalaki?
Anima, animus. Anima, [Musika] vagina. Like Freud, no, believe that all humans are psychologically bisexual and we both have yung feminine and masculine side.
Okay, so few men are well acquainted with their anima. Kasi this task requires great courage.
At it's even more difficult than being acquainted with the shadow.
So, to master the projections of the anima, men must overcome intellectual barriers and realize the feminine side of their personality.
Yung believe that the anima originated from the experiences ng men sa kanilang mga sisters, mothers, yung mga babae sa buhay nila that combine to form a generalized picture of woman.
Okay, sabi pa, this anima can be the source of much misunderstanding in male-female relationships.
But it may also be responsible for the alluring mystic woman that they have in their own psyche as a man.
So when we talk about naman yung animus, it's the masculine archetype in women.
Okay, yung anima, it represents yung mga ito na nga girls, no, yung irrational moods and feelings.
While yung animus naman daw ay yung symbolic thinking. So pag nagiging rational daw tayong mga babae, yun daw yung animus natin.
No, it is capable of influencing our thinking, but it does not actually daw belong to us as a woman. It's our animus.
[Musika] Eding. Okay, next po, great mother. Yan, interesting. Kasi itong great mother at yung wise old man are derivatives of the anima and animus.
So everyone, man or woman, possesses a great mother archetype. So yung pre-existing concept of mother is always associated with both negative and positive.
Ito yung ano, yung sinabi ni Jung na yung mother niya is both loving, may number one, number two.
No, so itong great mother na to represents two opposing forces, yung fertility and nourishment na tinatawag.
So, yung believe that our view of personal loving and terrible mother is largely overrated.
Parang all those influences with which the literature describe as being exerted on the children do not come from the mother herself, but rather from the archetype projected upon her which gives her a mythological background.
Okay, may mga symbolism yan sa dreams. Tapos we also have the wise old man. No, ah, sa dreams, it's personified as the father, the grandfather, the teacher, the guru, the priest.
No, ang wise old man symbolizes our pre-existing knowledge of the mysteries of life.
Like yung mga, ano, ah, yung mga politicians and others, they speak authoritatively but not authentically.
They often sound sensible and wise to other people who are willing to be misled by their own wise old man archetypes. May mga ganon silang, ano, ah, explanation for this.
So, a man or woman dominated by the wise old man archetype may gather a large number of disciples by using yung mga salita na appealing.
So that's how though we are being appealed to or we are being influenced by political, religious, and social prophets.
So medyo, ano din ito, dangerous. Pero yung ano, may at some point, may wisdom to.
No, kasi ang wise old man ay yung may wisdom and meaning. It's the archetype of wisdom and meaning.
It symbolizes our knowledge of the mysteries of life. Pwedeng, inisip ko nga, pwede ba dito yung ano, we have not experienced being in love but galing natin mag-advice sa mga friends.
No, we able to really influence them with our words.
Anyway, so the danger daw to society comes kapag ang mga tao ay pinaniniwalaan yung mga words ng isang tao pero hindi siya legit, hindi real wisdom yung dala-dala.
Okay, so we need to be, ano pa din, um, tawag doon, mapagmatyag.
Next is the hero archetype. Yar, mm, the hero. T's hulin natin yung self archetype.
Yung hero archetype is represented in mythology and legends as a powerful person.
So nilagay ko dito si Tanggol. Kasi Tanggol ba to o 'ba nag-Probinsyano na? Tapos nagtanggol pa.
Ah, I don't know the exact entire plot. Hindi ko nasundan to, busy tayo, eh.
Pero anong ginagawa niya? He is a powerful person. He fights, no, against great odds to conquer or vanquish evil.
No, in mythology, they kill dragons, they kill the demon, they kill serpents. In the end, however, yung hero daw is often undone by seemingly insignificant, by some seemingly insignificant person or event.
No, halimbawa daw si Achilles is the courageous hero of the Trojan War at siya raw ay napatay ng, 'ba? Kaya may Achilles heel, was killed by an arrow in his only vulnerable spot.
Yun, so ang description dito ay yes, they are great, but they have what we call the may weakness.
No, it's this again, the hero is a gend one who fights against great odds, pero meron siyang tragic flaw.
Tinatawag. So do we have some heroes in us? Do we tend to be heroes? No, do we do, o minsan, "Ako na lang, ma'am. Ako na lang yung masasaktan."
Depende din sa situation. Na self, ayan, si Jung, he believed that each person may tendency, inherited tendency to move forward to growth, to perfection, to completion.
At tinawag niya itong disposition na to na self. The self is the archetype of archetypes because it pulls together the other archetypes and unites them in the process of self-realization.
So paano itong, ano, itong self archetype possesses conscious and personal unconscious, mostly collective unconscious images.
So the self daw is, ganon, as an archetype, the self is symbolized by a person's ideas of perfection, completeness, coolness.
But its ultimate symbol is what we call the mandala. Take it down, the mandala.
Depende, it's depicted as a circle with a square, a square within a circle.
So, yung I knew that in finding the mandala as an expression of the self, I had attained what was for me the ultimate.
Look at this. We undergo the process of self-realization or individuation.
So in summary, the self includes both conscious and unconscious mind and it unites the opposing elements of the psyche: the male, the female, the good, the evil, the light, the darkness.
So, itong mga opposing elements na to are best represented din by the yin-yang.
Yung yin.
So, syempre, check niyo na lang or i-search niyo yung yin-yang.
Anyway, yon. So this is the individuation ni Carl Jung. So ingat po yan.
So ang self-realization or individuation is the condition of psychological health resulting from what? The integration of all facets of personality.
It's becoming you as a person. It's fulfilling your own capacities and developing yourself.
We're almost done, ano. Konti na lang. Ah, stages of development. Meron siyang childhood, puberty to young adulthood, middle age.
Sa puberty to young adulthood, yung adolescence must adapt to the growing demands now of reality. Ang focus nito is external, di ba? Extra version, di ba?
Education, career, family. Dito, yung conscious is dominant.
But in the middle age, no, it's the period daw of transition. Ito yung binanggit ko sa inyo earlier.
It's ang focus ng personality shifts from external to internal in an attempt to balance yung unconscious natin with the conscious.
It's the stage where you process or when you realize things. And yung self-actualization begins.
No, yung conscious is integrated with the unconscious at doon natin naattend yung individuation.
Again, so we have childhood, puberty to young adulthood, middle age, at yung panghuli, yung old age.
As people approach the evening of life. Kasi sabi niya, ah, kinompare dito, no, kinompare daw ni Jung yung trip natin, no, through life to the journey of the sun.
So habang umaangat, no, umaangat na, habang nag-ring, hanggang sa, yung sunset, yun yung old age.
No, sig sana gets. T paki-explore or expound na lang.
Um, we have methods of investigation. Uh, include this in your reading also. A couple of questions will be taken from this.
Okay, and I'll end maybe with this one. Yan, ano ba yung ultimate purpose ng Jungian therapy?
So kung ang purpose ng Adlerian therapy was to encourage people, no, to encourage, to give courage.
Kasi may compensation ka, e. No, striving for compensation galing sa exaggerated feelings of inferiority.
Para kay Jung, ang purpose ng Jungian therapy is to help neurotic patients become healthy people.
To work independent towards realization or self-realization. No, so analytical psychology is essentially a psychology of opposites.
At yung self-realization is the integration ng iba't ibang aspects ng buhay mo.
You come to a selfhood where yung isang tao ay nare-recognize niya yung iba't ibang aspect ng buhay niya.
All psychological components functioning in unity. No, where we go through, we have gone through.
Sana a process where we minimize our persona, na-recognize natin yung anima.
To come to terms with this unconscious is difficult at kailangan mo talaga ng courage.
No, courage to face the devil aspect or the shadow, no, evil nature. Yun, yung term ni evil nature.
And to you need more fortitude to accept your feminine side or your masculine side.
So, ito daw ay medyo mahirap i-achieve.
Okay, and these are the concepts of humanity. Galing ito doon sa book. Can read it, you can.
And, ah, last slide natin for Carl. Sabi niya, everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves.
It's shadow projection, no. Kasi often what we hate is in our own shadow and it comes forth when we observe it in other people.
It's not necessarily in evil. An kailangan, evil yung ma-discover mo.
You can only see a quality in another person. Baka may quality in you.
You may be irritated by something in another. It's very likely that the same quality is present in your own shadow, your anima, or your animus.
So that is the end of our discussion for Carl.
