So, okay, well, a lot of things to dissect here. Uh, first off, I didn't know that they were now live from Poly Market Studios on a regular basis. If you didn't know, Poly Market is a cryptocurrency, uh, gambling site that makes predictions on, uh, politics, which I believe Americans are banned from participating in. You know, investigation pending, but, uh, certainly a little bit odd, uh, of all companies to be taking a large sponsorship from. I'm not entirely sure if it is, uh, you know, but to the tune of what? But that compares is ridiculous. Uh, yes, I'm streaming right now on Twitch as well as YouTube. Twitch, a company that is owned by Amazon. Amazon's a bad company, uh, that doesn't necessarily mean that I endorse, love, and support Amazon. Emma Vigeland working for TYT, uploading videos on the behalf of TYT to Facebook, again, the social media company that they are trying to get their videos out on, is not in any way the same thing as directly taking funding and rebranding your studio by the name of the cryptocurrency gambling website. That, that's unbelievable. That's trying to basically pull Emma into something that she has no involvement with whatsoever. Yes, a lot of social media companies are run or funded by very bad people. Uh, that's not the same as directly taking their money and then trying to discount a call out of that.
Founded in 2020 by Shane Coplein, Poly Market is a prediction market that allows users to gain and/or lose on the outcome of world events. In January 2022, the market was fined $1.4 million by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and received a cease and desist order for regulatory violations, including failure to register as a swap execution facility. According to the CFTC, Poly Market offered substantial cooperation throughout the investigation, which resulted in the company receiving a lower fine. The market's comment section was modified to filter comments by holders only due to the increased abuse of content within the comments. In May 2022, Poly Market appointed J. Christopher Giancarlo, the former commissioner of the CFTC, as chairman of its advisory board. In May 2024, the company announced that it had broken $70 million across two funding rounds. These rounds include investment from Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum, and Founders Fund, a venture capital firm founded by Peter Thiel. In June 2023, Mother Jones reported that interest around the company had increased after a tweet about the outcome of the Titan submersible went viral. The premise of the bet was whether the submersible would be found by a certain date, rather than a wager on the fate of the passengers. Poly Market had over 60 markets available at the time of the submersible wager, including the outcome of the Guatemalan presidential election, the likelihood of Twitter suing Meta, and the likelihood that Russia would use nuclear force in 2024. The outcome of the US election became the most active market on the platform, with over $3.3 billion wagered on presidential races between the Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. Nate Silver found that polling analysis from FiveThirtyEight became an advisor to Poly Market in 2024. As of September 2024, Poly Market operates as election prediction operations offshore, as domestic operations would be regulated by the CFTC.
A few days later, in the 2024 US presidential debate held on June 27, 2024, Poly Market predicted a 70% chance that the Democratic candidate Joe Biden would withdraw from the 2024 US presidential election, an increase from 20% weeks before he officially announced his withdrawal. By contrast, on August 5th, Poly Market showed a 68% odds that Kamala Harris would pick Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro as her running mate, with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz at 23% odds. Harris selected Walz the next day. On October 7, 2024, Poly Market showed a spike in the odds Donald Trump would win the 2024 election with 53.3%, with the corresponding decline that Kamala Harris's odds were 46.1%. Two Poly Market competitors continued to show that Harris had better odds, etc., etc. The divergence. On November 13, 2024, the FBI raided Coplein's home and seized his phone, according to Bloomberg News. The Department of Justice is investigating Poly Market for legally allowing US-based gamblers to make bets on the website. As of December 2nd, 2024, the French authority ARJEL has geoblocked Poly Market. A watch. Poly Market, which was run by web3 developer Adventure 1 QSS, during November, it stated that the website's gaming offerings weren't likely in violation of French gambling laws. Uh, Poly Market has blocked access to Americans since 2022 following a settlement with the Commodities Futures Trading Commission, which accused the company of running an unregistered derivatives trading platform.
Poly Market is shady as [ __ ]. Um, yeah, I, I don't have a better way of putting it. Essentially, like if someone was to, uh, advertise Stake.com, which is a cryptocurrency gambling website, as a result of them taking large amounts of money from Stake, in addition to, like, this is what XQC, as well as, um, Trainwreck and a lot of other of the crypto gambler people were doing, right? They would get, uh, a certain amount of money to do, uh, online cryptocurrency gambling, do slot machines, highly addictive, that kind of stuff, and then promote it, uh, through their own platforms. And, uh, by doing that, uh, their own, uh, people who had a parasocial relationship with watching them would in turn want to win big when they won big, and that would create more gamblers and, you know, really facilitate, uh, people getting addicted to gambling. Poly Market is not slot machines. It's not roulette. It's not, you know, that kind of cryptocurrency gambling. It's, uh, being able to gamble on the outcome of US or global elections or, uh, you know, prop bets, as, as you're seeing here. But once again, it is cryptocurrency gambling. That's what Poly Market is.
I was really disturbed, uh, during the 2024 US election, how there was a lot of people consistently posting Poly Market links. You know, Steven Crowder was doing it. Tim Pool was doing it. As if they were some kind of authority on the upcoming election, because I was like, "A, I'm going to assume that a lot of them are getting sponsors for doing this, right? They're being sponsored to post that, 'Hey, by the way, the latest odds really show that Donald Trump is going to win the US election. Check this out.'" That, that kind of feels like a branded post that you didn't brand. I could be wrong on that. They might not have gotten direct sponsors. They just like the numbers. That could also be the case, but it did seem really sus. Um, and also, we're talking about a, a site whose odds can be influenced through crypto gambling, which obviously, this, this is going to be an incredibly, uh, irreputable source for information for people to consistently use to make predictions on upcoming outcomes of elections. You have a system where whales are able to manipulate it very, very easily, which would be a big problem with Poly Market. Um, and, and invest large amounts of money into, uh, you know, one particular outcome versus another, which again, is going to change, uh, the odds in anyone's favor depending on in the direction they're going in. Uh, that also is quite wild. Um, yeah, I, I would say that there is probably a lot of ethical concerns that come up from, uh, TYT's now, uh, you know, direct partnership with them in the sense that they are branding their studios off of Poly Market. I wouldn't deflect onto Emma Vigeland on this one. I don't, I don't see, like, you know, even your own audience is going to be like, "Well, that's ridiculous." Like if someone's like, "Hey, by the way, huge TYT fan, love the show. Just get a little concerned that it's called, you know, the Poly Market Studios." And, and how much does Poly Market influence, perhaps, reporting? Are you going to be using Poly Market outcomes to try and say, "Hey, by the way, this looks likely, this doesn't look likely, what's going on here?" To then take that and be like, "Well, I mean, if you're angry about the whole Peter Thiel thing, because we have talked a ton of [ __ ] about Peter Thiel and all the evil he's, you know, doing upon the world, I do want to point out that, you know, who's investor of Facebook? Peter Thiel. You know who uploaded videos to Facebook? Emma Vigeland. You know who Emma Vigeland worked for? Us. So, is Emma Vigeland the villain in all this?" Poly Market investigated by the DOJ for allegedly letting US users bet on the platform. The US Department of Justice is investigating crypto predictions betting platform Poly Market for allegedly accepting trades from US-based users, according to a person familiar with the matter. The Federal Bureau of Investigation executed a search warrant on Shane Coplein, the Poly Market chief executive officer, and seized his phone and electronics, according to the person who asked for anonymity to not discuss the public matter. Under agreement with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission that they reached in 2022, Poly Market is to prevent US-based traders from making transactions on the platform. Poly Market surged in popularity in the lead-up to the November 5th presidential election, touting itself as a more accurate predictor of political outcomes than traditional polling. The platform's users are able to wager an unlimited amount of money on their favorite candidates. Unlimited, you say? Oh, that's so nice. Whereas competing platforms have betting limits. No limits. You want to bet everything? You want to bet the car, the house, your kids' [ __ ] college fund? You can do it all, only on Poly Market. Massive trades in the final days before November 5th. A French whale in Trump's favor bought an additional scrutiny on the platform. Opponents of political prediction markets accused the wagers of potentially manipulating the underlying market by skewing public perception in Trump's favor. Poly Market said in a statement that the company would stand up for ourselves and our community and alleged that the FBI search was politically motivated. "Poly Market is a fully transparent prediction market that helps everyday people better understand the events that matter most to them, including elections." Where have I heard that line before? Sounds, sounds, sounds kind of like copy. Uh, Coplein posted on the social media platform X on Wednesday, saying, "New phone, who dis? LOL." The New York Post early reported on the FBI's actions. The company, led by Coplein, settled an enforcement action with the CFTC two years ago and paid a $1.4 million penalty in addition to agreeing to block US users. The company has said recently that it's taken additional measures to verify and block users it suspects may be US citizens based in the US. So I guess, yeah, you could still use like a VPN or something. I guess maybe that's the justification. I can't say this for sure, but I would assume maybe that they feel this isn't as shady and [ __ ] up as it seems to be on the behalf of TYT, because their audience is mostly American, so it's not like they can access the site. I mean, you know, I mean, this is really just for the European rubes to get suckered in, and Canadians.
TYT say investigators even raided CEO Shane Coplein's New York City home on Tuesday. The investigation is said to center on whether Poly Market violated a prior settlement with the US government by allowing American-based users access to its platform. Senior investigative correspondent Erin Karki joins me now for more on that. Erin, what's the latest on this investigation? We don't know other than what you said, that it's there was a prior agreement with the with the government that that prevented, uh, was supposed to prevent US-based users from accessing this platform. That was with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and it allowed, uh, the platform allowed US users to improperly bet on things that would happen in the future. It's an event market, events that would happen in the future, like a presidential race, who's going to win, for example. And, and they weren't supposed to do that. One avenue of the investigation is whether, like, that's shady as [ __ ], right? Like, just on its surface, to to have a company like this that's like, "Yeah, part of our agreement is we're just not going to allow Americans to use our service, period. That's, that's part of it." But all you Canadians, giddy up, you can bet on the American election like no one's business. No limits. No limit to how much you can bet on American politics or global politics. You know, is there going to be a coup in Guatemala? You can bet on that. We got bets for everything. It's, it's, it's fun. It's fun. It's, it's informative. It's, it's the best way for people to be able to become informed on very important topics through the Poly Market. They maybe were secretly allowing US users access to this platform, but often times, Diane, as you know, a raid or a search is just the beginning stages of an investigation, so they can see what evidence they can find. Well, I mean, Ken Coplein, Shane Coplein released it today, so I guess that one's already had to have been a cash out. Who will replace Larry Fink as the BlackRock CEO? Okay, then normal ones. Uh, Trump ends Ukraine war in the first 90 days. They believe it's a 47% chance. Will Biden resign in 2024? 3% chance, but probably really good money. You know, you can see how much volume is in each one of them. This, this particular gamble has about $836,000. So probably really good odds if it's only a 3% chance. Look at that. A lot of them are based on who's, uh, what is Bitcoin going to hit. Uh, you can gamble on the Grammys. That one sounds fun. What's the Jay-Z? Let's look at the Jay-Z one for a second. Will Jay-Z be arrested in 2024? Uh, there's a 6% chance. But if you want to throw money at that, a cool pot of $144,000. Will Jay-Z and Beyoncé divorce in 2024? 3% chance. Will Jay-Z settle with his accuser before April? 23% chance. Will he see jail before April? 15% chance. Again, seems highly inappropriate to to want to place bets on whether or not someone did or did not, uh, sexually assault a 13-year-old, but hey, there's a market for everything. And no limits. No limits. Want to stress that as well. That one doesn't have any volume yet. It's brand new, though. This one just dropped. So this one is brand new. You can get on on the, uh, the ground floor of that. And then if you haven't, uh, uh, really picked up on my dry sarcasm, do not ever put money on that website. Do not gamble on Poly Market. All right, do not gamble on cryptocurrency gambling websites. That it just seems like a very quick way to lose money. I would say taking your money out from the bank in the form of cash and burning it would give you warmth and more entertainment than whatever the [ __ ] is going on there.

Those who have lots of money and power, AKA when you hear the term whale, that is a cryptocurrency billionaire or multi-millionaire, someone who owns a lot of crypto, who has the ability to manipulate markets in their favor in a way that you can't even do on the stock market because these are 24/7. They're unregulated, mostly. And, and yeah, people who want to can just suddenly jump in there and completely change the game because they have the money to do that. It, it's very dangerous. It's a quick way to lose money. And gambling in general is just not a healthy practice. It, you'll not only lose cash, but it can cause depression, anxiety, it increases, uh, you know, the rates of suicide, all this kind of stuff. Like, I, I would avoid gambling altogether. Of all the, uh, particularly, you know, it, I mean, maybe I'm lucky. It pleasures me not. I, I just get sad. I, I don't get the, the gambler's high, you know? I'll, the few times I've tried it, I'm just like, "Does nothing for me." I'm like, "I, I could have spent that money on drugs." You know, not that I ever do drugs, so I'm just saying that I could have spent that money on drugs. I, I would actually get, I think, a lot more rewards for for my, uh, you know, bad habit in that regard.

And, and between the two of them, I think that they would be easier for me trying to push my own goals and agenda. I do the same thing in the Canadian elections. Who do I think I'm going to vote for in relativity to who's going to get the most seats in relativity to who's going to form government and who's going to be easier as the official opposition to push up against that? That these are calculations that you have to make because I don't have representation. There is no far-left candidate who's standing up there and who's just saying all the things that I want to hear. It's trash. It's trash. We all have to deal with the trash. That's the reality. But he's painting it like they're [ __ ] Democratic elites or something, or insiders, or, or [ __ ] Pod Save America. What happened? There's only two things that make you cry: when establishment Democrats lose, and when we fight back against you. Oh, well, you're not supposed to fight back. Oh, oh, they're so rude.
