You don't need college. Learn, learn stuff, okay? Everything is available, basically for free. You can learn anything you want for free. It is not a question of learning. There is a value that colleges have, which is like, you know, seeing whether somebody's can somebody work hard at something, including a bunch of sort of annoying homework assignments. And their homework assignments sold through, you know, that's that's like the main value of college. And then also, you know, probably want to hang around with a bunch of people your own age for a while instead of going right into the workforce. Um, so I think colleges are basically for fun and to prove you can do your work, but they're not for learning.
Generally, you want education to be like as close to a video game. Video you do to if you can. Then you can make education far more compelling, far easier to do. So you really want to disconnect the whole grade level thing from the subjects. Allow people to progress at the fastest they can or are interested in. In seems like a really obvious thing. ED basically downloading algorithms into your brain. And actually amazingly bad in conventional education. Like it shouldn't be like this huge chore. Like the more you can gamify the process of learning, the better. Like, and I think unfortunately, like a lot of education is very, you got some standing up lecturing people, and they the lecture.
I was an AI engineer before I started YouTube. I wasn't talented in what I did, but I had an obsession with needing to do well. So I entered AI solution competitions hosted by Google and Microsoft every year. Of course, I never won a single award. I was blocked by the wall of true geniuses. In addition, I tried to read about two to three AI papers daily out of the thousands that poured in each day. However, no matter how hard I tried, I didn't feel like I was making any progress. Then, I suddenly realized. What I needed wasn't knowledge, but the work I truly wanted to do, the projects I truly wanted to do.
The top investor in Silicon Valley, Dave Lee, says that truly smart people have two characteristics. Smart people have two characteristics. The first is knowing what they truly want. The second is achieving it. I was cramming knowledge into my head, but I didn't know what I truly wanted. I believe knowledge only shines when you have something you truly want to do. When we realize what we truly want, all learning turns into joy. Because we learn to achieve what we truly want.
A person should not read like a dog following its master's orders. Read like an eagle hunting for prey. When you learn like a dog waiting for its master, you start to develop an aversion to learning. If you never want to stop learning, learn like an eagle hunting for prey. Create your own curriculum and gain what is useful. If you get bored, move on to the next stage. You are not here to serve the teacher. The teacher is here to help you.
As Elon Musk said, what we truly need is not to prepare this and that. This world is a very complex world. No matter how much theoretical knowledge you learn, it becomes useless in reality. Therefore, most things must be learned by experiencing them firsthand. Just as we don't learn to swim through theory, or learn to ride a bicycle through theory. Right? First, try it, and when there's something you can't do, learn the knowledge you want through books or YouTube. Instead of cramming useless knowledge from beginning to end into your head like a dog, hunt for truly necessary knowledge like an eagle. Don't try to learn everything you need before starting a project. Just start the project and gain new knowledge whenever you get stuck.
I realized this fact once again while doing YouTube. When I first learned video editing, I took a five-hour Premiere Pro tutorial. And it took me a week to finish the five-hour tutorial. Trying to follow someone else's pre-arranged curriculum like a dog was so boring. Even funnier is that I still haven't used 90% of the knowledge I learned. There's absolutely no need to listen to books, YouTube, or lectures from beginning to end. You have to start first. And if there's a part you get stuck on, hunt for it like an eagle.
