Transcription

Welcome to the Capstone project sessions. So, in Capstone project sessions, we have a total of six parts. And it is divided into three parts. That is prep one, prep two, and prep three. In our prep one, we have three parts: prep one part one, prep one part two, and prep one part three. Then now we have prep two. And lastly, we have prep three part one and prep three part two. Now, we are currently in prep one part one. So, welcoming you all for this session.

So, coming to the guidelines, all your doubts and all your questions will be answered at the end of the session. And I request you all to drop all your doubts in the chat box only. And for future reference and further reference, you can refer to the YouTube channel of our COE PD.

So, firstly, let us understand about the case study. So, Mr. Anthony, who's an NRI, has an idea to develop a website which is mainly focused on fashion. And it all focuses on high-end apparel and accessories. For that, he has collaborated on the application with Mr. Bhaskar, Miss Kathy, and Mr. Dominic. So, he wanted to develop the website which is very much easy to navigate and have a contemporary look, and to process payments quickly. After looking upon the papers, Mr. Anthony has understood that Miss Kathy has already had a similar application, and the sales are drastically dropping or declining. Mr. Anthony has taken on the duty of improving the application. The timeline of the project is 18 months with 1 crore as the budget.

So, as of now, the problems which are being faced are lack of knowledge of fashion of the customers, lack of customer reach. And looking at the current problems, Mr. Anthony has pulled a team on board. So, Mr. Anthony owns the company NovaCorp. Owns a team, and it has the following team like Mr. Philip has projected Mr. Walter White as a committee member, Miss Ruby as a committee member, and Miss Serena as a committee member.

Uh, can you all please confirm me that whether my voice is audible or not? Please react whether my voice is coming or not.

Just give me a moment. Uh, I'm setting my voice. Okay, sorry for the trouble. Uh, so, at a quick glance, let us see what's the Anthony company is. It's NovaCorp, and the onsite team has the following people: Mr. Philip as project lead, and Mr. Walter White as committee member, Miss Ruby as committee member, Miss Selena as committee member.

Coming to the project, Mr. Anthony outsourced this project to a company named Arduino offsite team, where Mr. John is delivery head, Miss Anna is project manager, Mr. Chase is senior Java developer, Miss Nora is Java developer one, Mr. Sushant is Java developer two, Miss Vivan is developer Java developer three, Mr. Mike is network admin, Mr. John is database admin, Mr. Jason and Miss Nif are the testing. And you act as a business analyst in this project.

Now, let us decode the case study. So, let us understand about the project area, current needs, overview of the project, and current problems. So, the project area is nothing but to develop a website which is all about fashion and with the focus where it has all high-end apparel and accessories. What the current needs are nothing but easy navigation, have a contemporary look, and to have the payment process quickly.

Let us understand what is the overview of the project. It's nothing but an e-commerce based project where there is no already an existing application present. But, the current project would like to take the inputs from the current one and work on the new one. And the current problems are nothing but decline of sales, and the website or the application is non-user-friendly. And also, due to huge competition, we couldn't I the competition.

Now, so let us see what are the questions and answers in our pre-plan part one. We have a total of 14 questions in pre-plan part one. So, this is a similar case study to the one which you are working on. So, the question number one is all about BPM, that is Business Process Model. In Business Process Model, we need to answer about goals, inputs, resources, outputs, activities, and value created to the end customer. The goal is nothing but what we want to do with this project. Input is that what we are having. And resources are like nothing but software, office space, like that. Output is like what we are going to get with it, like sales revenue, efficiency, like that. Activities are nothing but excellent customer service, partner with leading banks, like that. Value is nothing but wide, wide range customer satisfaction.

So, moving on to the next question, we have a SWOT analysis. SWOT means strength, weakness, opportunities, and threats. Here, the strength and weakness acts as internal factors, whereas opportunities and threats acts as external factors. Feasibility study. Feasibility is nothing but it is done before starting of the project, where we will be checking everything like about the technology, about the hardware, about the software, about the resources, about the budget, and about the time frame. We check whether the project would be successful or not. Here, the technology is all about database servers, payment gateways, security, and APIs. Hardware is nothing but backup systems, network infrastructure, and also about storage. Software is all about shopping cart software, content management system, and payment gateway software. Resources are nothing but who are all working in this project. That is the project management team, business analysts, software developers, like that. And budget of various costs involved such as development costs, hardware costs. Time frame is nothing but based on resources and number of features what we are providing.

Gap analysis. Gap analysis is nothing but it will be differentiating between the current state and future state. So, the current state is that established online platform and lifestyle platforms with a wide range of products and a seamless shopping experience. Whereas the desired state would be expansion into new product categories and markets. So, current state is nothing but it is called as "as is," and the desired state is called as "to be." So, the comparison between "as is" and "to be" is called as gap analysis.

Moving on to the next question, it's all about risk analysis. So, let us first understand what is a risk. The definition of risk goes as it is an uncertain event where, when a risk occurs, it leads to a project failure. And we have types of risks that is internal risks, external risks, project-based risks. So, in internal risks, we have high operating expenses due to investment in technology and marketing. External risks is all about intense competition from other online fashion and lifestyle platforms in India. Coming to the beer risks, it's all about poor requirement gathering or incomplete requirement gathering, frequent change in requests, and all about domain. And moving on to the next one, the project-based risks. We have stakeholder risks, scope risk, like that.

So, moving on to the next question, it's all about RACI matrix or we can call it as stakeholder analysis. So, like in your case study, you might get the question as how do you perform stakeholder analysis or what is a stakeholder analysis, like that. So, let us understand who's a stakeholder first. A stakeholder is the one or group or individual or any organization which gets affected by the project outcome. And stakeholder analysis, we perform RACI matrix: responsible, accountable, consulted, and informed. So, responsible is nothing but who is responsible for the thing. Accountable is like who is answerable. Consulted means they'll be consulting whenever they're required, and informed is all about we'll be informing them.

Moving on to the next question, the question number seven. We'll be preparing a business case document over here. So, most of the people might get confused in between the business process model and business case document. So, BPM is nothing but we have goals, inputs, outputs, resources, value created by end customer. In business case document, we have why the project is initiated, what are the current problems, with the project, how many problems can be solved, what are the resources required, how much organization change is required to adopt this technology, what is the time frame to recover ROI, that is return on investment, how to identify stakeholders, that is the RACI matrix.

So, moving on to the next one, we have all about SDLC methodologies. So, SDLC is nothing but Software Development Life Cycle. In Software Development Life Cycle, we have four types of methodologies. So, let us understand what is a methodology at first. Methodology is nothing but it is a set of rules or guidelines. And in methodologies, we have four types: sequential methodology, iterative methodology, evolutionary methodology, and agile methodology. So, you might have heard about waterfall model, RUP model, spiral model, Scrum model, right? So, these models follow the methodologies to finish the project.

So, moving on to the next question, we have all about models. Models are nothing but they follow a set of rules or guidelines to finish the project. In SDLC, we have five models: waterfall model, V model, spiral model, Scrum model, and RUP model. Here, the waterfall model and V model come under sequential methodology. RUP comes under RUP methodology. Spiral comes under evolutionary methodology, and Scrum model falls under agile methodology. And in waterfall model, we have a few steps which we need to follow while doing the project. So, the steps involved in it are requirement gathering and analysis, then we have system design, then we'll be doing the development. Now, after the development, we'll be going for testing. After testing, we'll be doing deployment and maintenance.

Similarly, for V model, it stands for verification and validation. In that, we have requirement gathering, system analysis, software design, integration testing, module design, unit testing, like that. In RUP model, we have four steps involved in it: inception, elaboration, construction, and transition. In spiral model, we again have a few steps, so that is all about identifying the objectives, then we'll be performing risk analysis, then we'll be doing product development, and lastly, we'll be doing evaluation. Moving on to the Scrum Agile methodology, the work is divided into sprints, where each sprint time is about 2 weeks. Usually, the sprint duration is 1 to 4 weeks, but the development team works, sets the target for 2 weeks.

Moving on to the next question, we have a difference between waterfall model and V model. So, the major difference between waterfall model and V model is that testing is done only after the development, whereas in V model, we have development and testing happening parallelly at the same phase. Coming to the budget, waterfall model has low cost, whereas V model acts as expensive. Waterfall model moves in a linear way, whereas V model doesn't move in any linear way. In waterfall model, we have less customer involvement, whereas in V model, we have more customer involvement.

The question number 11 is all about you need to choose the model and you need to justify for the same. So, you'll be acting as a business analyst in this project, right? So, you need to pick one model among them and you need to justify why you have picked that model.

Gantt chart. Gantt chart is nothing but we'll be showing the time frame of the project, how much work will be done in each phase, and when the project will be finished. So, the Gantt chart which we have drawn is for waterfall model, where the project manager and the business analyst will be present throughout the entire project. The network admin and database admin also stay throughout the entire project.

Fixed bid versus billing projects. A fixed bid project is nothing but it has a fixed price, and there is no budget expansion after the budget is allocated. The scope of work, deliverables, and timelines are agreed upon upfront, and the service provider assumes the risk for any cost overruns or delays. A billing project is nothing but it provides bills to the client for the actual time worked and materials expended on the project. The client pays for the service provider's time and expenses, and the scope of work can be adjusted as needed throughout the project.

So, lastly, we need to prepare time sheets for all the phases like requirement gathering, requirement analysis, design, development, testing, UAT, and deployment phases. So, time sheets are nothing but we'll be showing how much work we have done in each phase and what work we have done and how much time we have allocated for it. So, these time sheets will be prepared for 1 day, that is the duration for 8 hours. So, in our requirement, they give the example for the requirement gathering phase, where as a business analyst, we'll be conducting the stakeholder meeting, which is conducted for 1 hour. So, they mentioned the duration as 1 hour. And then we have a client interaction for 2 hours. And for creating the documents like a BRD, we have given a time for 1 hour. Similarly, for requirement ordering, we have 1 hour, and team meeting, we have 2.5 hours. So, the total goes for 7.5 hours. So, this is all about your pre-sprint part one.
