We're putting a room underneath the garage floor on our new house, and half the internet told me it's going to collapse. There's no support beams underneath, only these two temporary walls that will be removed once the concrete cures. The rebar grid and the entire suspended slab were designed by a structural engineer and it was inspected before we poured. The metal decking is attached to the foundation walls on all four sides, and the laps are screwed together. The metal decking and temporary walls are used to support the concrete when it's wet, but once it cures, the 6 in. of concrete, along with the rebar grid, will span the gap and be able to support the weight of a vehicle.
So here's the room below. These are the two temporary walls that are coming out, and this slab above will span the distance. It's supported by a foundation wall on all four sides. We're going to put a Fort Knox vault door here. I'm really happy with how this concrete turned out. Let me know in the comments if you want to see me drive on the suspended slab for the first time.
