Narcissists are delusional. Most people don't really understand this about narcissistic abusers, and it's a critical point for victims to understand. Otherwise, you can waste years of your life and sanity trying to explain or even defend yourself against a delusional person.
Narcissists truly believe that you are the problem because you refuse to go along with their fake, phony, and rewritten version of reality. It's difficult for normal people to wrap their heads around the fact that narcissists are not interested in hearing any version of reality that does not put them into the role of the hero, the victim, or the martyr. Regardless of the facts or if they were clearly responsible for doing something reprehensible, they aren't interested in those details, nor do they care.
Control over the narrative is the most important thing to a narcissist, and if you are unwilling to completely agree with this made-up fantasy they came up with, then they will absolutely view you as the problem and project all of the blame onto you.
Narcissists have no ability or desire to self-reflect about their abusive behavior and will outright refuse to take any accountability for the destruction that manifests everywhere they go. Trying to reason with the narcissist is the definition of insanity, and defending yourself against a made-up delusion is feudal.
