Chris Godwin return timeline!

The Injury Expertz2:28

Transcription

Hey guys, Dr. Morris, injury expert. So Chris Godwin actually suffered a significant left ankle fracture dislocation in 2024. He was having a monster season. Fractured and dislocated his ankle, similar to what happened to Tyreek Hill, but instead of the knee, it was the ankle.

Now, what happened was he also had what we call a high ankle sprain, and a fibula fracture. He had to have not only one surgery to address that, but eventually a second surgery. And that was more of a setback, in my opinion, than the initial issue.

Now, my concern is always with these. These are very, these are very complicated injuries, very significant injuries. Now, as a route runner, these are particularly challenging because of all the different ways you have to move. Well, he did not start on pop. He ended up, I think, debuting week four. But these usually take a good month, sometimes longer, to ramp up.

And the issue with these, because of how complicated these are, because he still has metal plates and screws in the ankle, is that when you're trying to run routes, they don't exactly want to cooperate. And a lot of the times, some of the screws or some of the plates just start to rub and cause some problems. And unfortunately, that's what's happened.

So, he hasn't really done a whole lot since he's been on the field. He's missed the past week, and he's already been ruled out for this week, week eight, with a fibula injury. So, this is the fibula. This is the outside part of the leg. And they said it's a different part of the bone from when he injured it last year, which tells me that this is a compensation injury, secondary to how his ankle is now put together.

So, long story short, don't count on him this year at all. In my opinion, he's droppable. I don't think he's going to be relevant this year. I can't trust him this year. Unfortunately, they lost Mike Evans to that significant concussion and clavicle fracture that he had repaired today. And Amon-Ra St. Brown, by the grace of God, got super lucky with his hamstring strain and was able to play last week, and he will be the dominant alpha going forward, probably with Trey Palmer, Cade Otton, and maybe Cameron Brate going forward.

But in general, I do not expect Chris Godwin to probably come back before the bye, obviously, and then even after the bye, I really can't trust him. It's just not worth the risk. This is a very post-op, this is a complicated ankle issue, and I don't know if he's ever going to be the same player, unfortunately. And I said that last year, and it sounds crazy, but this is how complicated this injury was, especially for a route runner on the wrong side of 28, 29. Uh, I wish I had more information for you, better information, but as of right now, hard to trust and clog up a roster slot for Chris Godwin, unless it is a super deep league or a dynasty league.
