[Music] Hey everyone, this is Y Madam. Welcome back to my channel. Today I'm going to show you how to crochet a super easy mesh tote bag. It's lightweight, super stretchy, and perfect for everyday use. You'll love how handy and versatile it is.
To make a stylish bag, I'm using braided rope yarn, and I'll leave the details in the description below. Since it's 2 mm thick, I'm using a 4.0 mm crochet hook, along with a needle and scissors.
First, I will start with the base of the bag by crocheting a simple rectangle using single crochet stitches. Let's make a chain of 36. [Music] In the second chain from the hook, make 35 single crochets. [Music] That completes the first row. Start the second row with a chain one and turn. In the second chain from the hook, make 35 single crochets in each stitch. [Music] From row three to row 12, I will just repeat the same steps: chain one, turn, and make 35 single crochets in each [Music] stitch.
After finishing 12 rows, I have a flat rectangular piece that measures 24 cm in length and 7.5 cm in width. Now I'm going to crochet around the base to create the foundation for the bag's body. Start at the point where you just finished row 12 of the bag base. Then make an increased [Music] stitch. Then work 11 single crochets along the side panels. [Music] At the next corner, make another increase [Music] stitch. Then work 34 single crochets along the front panel. [Music] Repeat this process for the remaining two sides, making an increase at each corner and single crochet in each stitch. [Music] Finish the round with a slip stitch to join. You will have a total of 98 stitches for this round.
To make the next steps easier, use stitch markers to mark the four corners. These will be the points where we add accents to the bag's design. Put the first marker in the stitch where you finish the first round. Count 12 stitches, then put the second marker in the 13th stitch. From there, count 35 stitches and put the third marker in the 36th [Music] stitch. Keep going, count 12 more stitches, and put the fourth marker in the next [Music] stitch. You should have exactly 35 stitches left in the [Music] round.
Next, I will start working on the body of the bag using the mesh pattern with double crochet stitches. Start by chaining one. In the first stitch, make three double crochets together. Yarn over, insert hook into the stitch, yarn over, and pull through. Now you have three loops on your hook. Yarn over, insert hook into the same stitch, yarn over, and pull through. Now you have five loops on your hook. One more time, yarn over, insert the hook into the same stitch, yarn over, and pull through. Now you have seven loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all seven loops. That creates a puff of three double crochet stitches together. Chain two to make a space. Repeat another puff of three double crochet stitches together in the same [Music] stitch, then chain [Music] one. Then crochet 12 double crochets along the side panel of the bag. [Music] When you reach the next marked stitch, repeat: three double crochets together, chain two, three double crochets together in the same [Music] stitch. After finishing the puff stitch, chain two. Next, for the front panel of the bag, I'll start working on the mesh pattern. Skip one stitch, then make one double crochet in the next stitch. Chain one, skip one stitch, then make one double crochet in the next stitch. Repeat chain one, skip one, and work one double crochet along the front panel of the bag until you reach the next corner. [Music] At the next marked stitch, make three double crochets together, chain two, and three double crochets together in the same stitch. [Music] Then crochet 12 double crochets along the side panel of the bag. Skip one stitch, then make one double crochet in the next [Music] stitch. Chain one, skip one stitch, then make one double crochet in the next stitch. Repeat chain one, skip one, and one double crochet along the front panel of the bag until you reach the next corner. [Music] Finish the round with a slip stitch to [Music] join.
Start the new row by chaining one. Then make three double crochets together, chain two, three double crochets together in the chain two [Music] space. Next, chain one. Then crochet 12 double crochets along the side panel of the bag. [Music] Make three double crochets together, chain two, and three double crochets together in the chain two space. [Music] After finishing the puff stitch, chain one. Then make a double crochet into the top chain of the double crochet from the previous row. Then chain one, skip one stitch, and make one double crochet in the next stitch. [Music] Repeat chain one, skip one, and one double crochet along the front panel of the [Music] bag. By doing this, the mesh pattern will have evenly spaced double crochet stitches aligned vertically, separated by chain one [Music] spaces. Keep following this pattern for each round until your bag is as tall as you want. [Music]
So here it is after I finished three rows of the bag, and it looks like this. [Music] I will show the pattern on the screen. You can pause the video here, work on your bag, and come back when you're ready for the next step. [Music] And here it is after I finished 18 rows with a length of about 24 cm. You can make more or fewer rows depending on the bag length you want. That is it for the sides. Now I'm going to add the border to the bag. Start at the point where you finished the last row, then chain one, then make single crochet stitches all the way [Music] around. [Music] Finish the first border round with a slip stitch. Work the second border round with a single crochet in each stitch all the way around. [Music] Finish the round with a slip [Music] stitch. Then I will secure the border by making slip stitches in each stitch all the way around. [Music] Cut the yarn, secure the ends, and weave in any loose ends. [Music]
And that's it, I finished the bag. Now let's make the [Music] strap. Start with the slip knot, then chain [Music] two. In the first chain, you'll have a front loop and back loop. Insert your hook into the back loop, yarn over, and pull through. Now you have two loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through both loops. Insert your hook into the front loop, yarn over, and pull [Music] through. Now you have two loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through both loops. Now you'll see two loops on the side. Insert your hook through both loops, yarn over, and pull through, then yarn over and pull through both loops. Keep repeating with the two loops on the side. Insert your hook through both loops, yarn over, and pull through, then yarn over and pull through both loops. Just keep going with this technique with the two loops on the sides over and over so you'll get a strong and sturdy strap. [Music] Keep going until your strap reaches the length you want. For me, I'd suggest around from 110 cm to 120 cm. [Music] This is where I will thread the strap through the [Music] bag. Once the strap is done, thread it through the bag like I'm showing in the video. [Music] After that, I will use a sewing needle to secure the two ends of the strap together. [Music] And that's it, I finished my bag. To add a little touch, I'm adding a flower keychain to the bag, and now it looks even more beautiful. [Music] And that's how I crochet a mesh tote bag.
