Because in my almost 20 years as a nurse, the most bitter, angry, nasty, rude patients are middle-aged to old black men. Black men. Black men. A lot of them never took care of their kids. So, they end up getting real sick, um, stroke, heart attacks, or whatever, and they can't function. So they had to go to nursing homes because they didn't do right.
And like the number one entity in nursing homes if they know how to vet their partner. You know what I mean? And they know I mean I'm just trying to find the correlation between the statistics, you know, cuz I'm not going based off the men I know. Yeah. Like black men, black men, black men and men in general are like in nursing homes, you know, lonely at the end of their life. This a statistic.
The reason why I threw that statistic out there is because they're they're saying that men are as a general, not just black, white, no matter the race, they are ending up in nursing homes. This is uh from the website place of mom. This is very accurate. It's uh December 5th, 2023. Most recently updated. Average age of nursing home residents age by percentage and demographic. The majority of residents in nursing home nursing homes are women accounting for 63.3% of the population in 2018 while men make up 36.7%. Nursing home statistics on gender follow US trends as a nationwide population of people 65 and over consists of more women than men.
This is a place for mom. According to our research team's analysis of the latest available data of more than 55.8 million elderly adults in the US 65 and older, 1.3 million live in nursing homes representing 2.3 of the elderly population. 818,000 elderly Americans reside in assisted living facilities. There are currently 55.8 million US adults Aed 65 plus. That number is expected to grow to 95 million by 2060.
The racial demographics among nursing home residents, 75.6% of nursing home residents are white non-Hispanic. Only 14.6% 6% of residents are black, non-hispanic, and then the ratio of men to women in nursing homes increases with age. As residents age, of course, gender ratios shift dramatically. According to the National Library of Medicine, 65 to 74, there's 132 women for every 100 men. 75 to 84, there's 246 women for every man. and 85 plus 425 women for every 100 men. I mean the proof is in the pudding in regards to who populates nursing homes the most.
Health needs increase am uh with age among nursing home residents starting with hypertension hypertension 71.5% and then Alzheimer's dementias 47.8 depression, heart disease, diabetes. And this is according to the CDC's top diagnosises, diagnosis among nursing home residents.
So listen to this video. This is the new shaming tactic that black women are using against black men. These hospitals and these statistics, actually the nurses will tell you that the people who die alone are men. It's not I don't care what any So, does that align with what what we just heard and what I just showed you guys in the statistics? Remember, I've been in the health care profession for almost 20 years now. This nurse says that she's been a nurse for 20 years. So, let's continue.

Okay, so this is her acting like acting like she cares, you know, and I hate that for us because I really hate black men, but I'm going to try and clean it up just to make it seem like I care. It's just so convenient how everything lines up with the talking points in these spaces. I mean, I wonder how she did that. I actually commented on this video. Somebody tagged me in it. I commented on the video. All I did was put one of those thinking uh emojis on there and I typed, "Don't worry, black men. I got it." That's all I put. Within a minute, I was blocked. A minute. I was blocked. But luckily for me, I had already saved the video um so we could discuss it here. And that's why I don't get into conversations on TikTok because I have a platform. I'll just bring it here.
I don't think she knew that we could quantify the happiness of nursing home residents. Did y'all know that? To make sure that the healthc care is up to par or not. So, before she made this video, it probably would have been wise of her to look at the research just to see this stuff before she made a fool of herself. And then I get caught. I get wind of it. And we're here now. And for any black women that's trying to rebut Kevin Samuels buy dog die alone and saying that no it's not women it's black men black men in particular mind you. Okay.
I love it. This is from the Oxford academic. Very reputable source I might might add. Why men fare worse. a mixed method study examining gender differences in nursing home resident quality of life. You see all those PhDs that peer-reviewed. So you see this uh this article and you saying what why men fare worse? Well, that basically says that she was right. Let's let's continue. I'm gonna stop there.
So I'm gonna read a little bit for you guys and this is based off of the same study and I'm quoting. Findings could differ based on regional or cultural context. Where whereas our quantitative ex uh sample was representative of NH nursing home residents in Minnesota overall, we purposely recruited a disproportionate number of black indigenous people of color residents for this study uh a qualitative aim. Similarly, the characteristics of NH NH's participating and the qualitative component differed from Minnesota facilities in general with all four facilities located in urban areas. So they they specifically went to urban areas and having a higher proportion of black, indigenous people of color residents than other nursing homes. Related to this, the facilities participating in this study, the qualitative component were selected based on the proportion of BIPAC residents for the parent study rather than to identify why men reported lower quality of life scores than women.
So, it's basically saying that men scored lower in the quality of life. Let's continue. In this research, nursing home resident, family, and discharge satisfaction scores were examined from 4,000 participants. Wow. The data were collected in 2020 and come from 420 facilities. 420 nursing homes were surveyed. Is that a is that a big enough uh pool of people to survey? I would say so.
Satisfaction information came from the core Q surveys which include 23 individual questions four of which can be combined to produce an overall satisfaction score. These core Q nursing home surveys are endorsed by the NQF. Generally lower overall satisfaction scores were found for family members compared to current residents or discharged residents. Look at this. Minorities, black, Asian, Hispanic, had overall satisfaction score compared TO WHITES. HOWEVER, BUT WAIT, there's more.
The differences were not significant at conventional levels. Uh-oh. So, there's a there's a variable there. A notable exception was men who were black, indigenous, or people of color who participated in more group activities than white men than white men. White, particularly games and religious services. They also organize their own social activities more frequently. So, black men and indigenous people of color, we having a ball in there. and black and black women running with this narrative like black men ain't doing what they supposed to do and they they alone and we not done. It's just so funny that the way they put it in there.
Look, a notable exception. Our observation that black indigenous people of color men were more likely than white men to engage in group activities could suggest different social norms and expectations related to social engagements. Other researchers found racial ethnic differences in older adults uh intended and actual use of long-term care with African-American older adults more likely to describe caregiving as a family expectation and white older adults more likely to describe it as a burden. H we similarly found that bipac men describe relying on family more readily than white men. Oh, so wait, let me read that one more time. We similarly found that bipot men described relying on family, relying on family and they I guess they supposed like the you know the black nurse said they supposed to be lonely but for some odd reason they family sticking around and checking on them relying on family more readily than white men. I mean what more do you want from me? WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT FROM ME?
SO, it seems that these black men that are in nursing homes are being well taken care of by their family who loves them and they're not alone and they're not bitter cuz they happy playing dominoes and Numerous men describe having little family connection or support. Bipot men however describe relying on family members more frequently than white men with several providing rich descriptions of the gifts i.e. the cell phone and visits their families provided. So black families giving these older black men their cell phones having a good old time. They good in there. But for some odd reason, our women like to spread this propaganda that black men are just simply dying alone. They're miserable. They're bitter. They used to be players. Something just came over me. I just started pimping.
All the same talking points that we hear in these spaces, those black men that that black nurse had had as patients, they all had the same story. They all were bitter. The black men, just the the black men, not any other men. Even though the statistics show that black men are doing just fine in nursing homes because their families love them and they actually enjoy their time while there. Lord have mercy. Look at this.
Although men tended to be less engaged in facility activities than women overall, we found some differences once again in men's activities based on race and ethnicity. Bipot men describe participating in group activities more frequently than white men, particularly games, crafts, and religious services, especially AfricanAmerican men. Oh my god, another one. Especially this is too easy. It's too easy, y'all. Bipok men also more frequently describe organizing their own social activities, including the gang groups described above. Jesus, this is actually an article.
Five reasons women need to plan for long-term care. Planning ahead for long-term care is important, but it's especially crucial for women. Here are five reasons why planning for long-term care is important for women. Number one, women live longer. On average, an American man will live to age 75, while an American woman will live to age 80. About 64% of Americans 85 years or older are women. And 80% of those Americans who live to 100 are women. Since women live longer, we are more likely to need long-term care and pay more for long-term care expenses than men.
Number two, women have a higher likelihood of disability and chronic health problems. Since women live longer, chronic health problems are more likely to occur as we age. Older women do not live more active years than men despite our longer lives. Women are more likely than men to develop debilitating conditions like arthritis, depressive symptoms, fall related fractures and Alzheimer's disease and related dementias that have implications for active life.
Number three, women are more likely to age alone. I didn't say it. Women are more likely than men to live alone in their old age. For some women, that's because they are widowed, divorced, or maybe, just maybe, they never married. Since they live alone, there is no one in their home to help them. Almost half, 45% of women over the age of 75, live alone. Shout out to Kevin Samuels.
All right. Women are caregivers. This is number four. Number four, women are caregivers. There are currently about 48 million informal or unpaid caregivers to adults in the US and 61% of those caregivers are women. Married women are often caregivers for their husbands first. By the time women become sick or unable to care for themselves, they are widowed and they need to rely on family members or professional caregiving services.
So, if you guys remember a while back when we were having the obesity discussion, I said that a lot of black women take on the burden of taking care of their mothers if their mothers become morbidly obese. The daughters are the ones that end up taking care of the mothers when they become obese. Once I get out the shower, my daughter comes in and she'll clean out the back of my legs because my arms are too short to reach. When I see my mom hurting a lot, it makes me feel bad. It's really heartbreaking and sad.
And that's something that you can control. That's one thing that I that I really take to heart. It is not your kid's responsibility to take care of you once you become obese. Do something about it right now. You can do that. And I hate to say that because the daughters tend to they take on that burden, you know, and that's unfortunate. It's sad. So, I feel for, you know, the black daughters in this community. I see it a lot. And I told the black community that's one of the main reasons why we need to start pushing this healthconscious message so we can stop putting that burden on black daughters. And I I always go to bat for black women about this because they think that it's just a you know it's it's a selfish thing to just assume that your children are going to take care of you because you can just eat whatever the hell you want. You become obese, now you bedridden. And now your daughter, your black daughter is missing out on living her life because she got to take care of you. So it's not just some sort of vanity thing where me as a health professional is telling black women to lose weight. No, it's actually me trying to take the burden off some of our black women. So you got to take care of this black community.
Number five, women typically have different financial situations than men. Women tend to be at a financial disadvantage in retirement compared to men. Many women work fewer years than men because of child rearing or caregiving. We also are more likely than men to work part-time. Plus, there's a gender pay gap. Women earn only 82% of what men earn. All these things add up to less earnings for women than men, which means we typically will have less money to help cover those long-term care expenses.
You remember when Kevin Samu uses to ask that question to women, do you have what, like a million, $1.5 million saved up for retirement? What kind of money are you going to need to live on if you live to be 80 years old? How much money you going to need to retire? To retire on? Uhhuh. Probably around 400 500,000. 400 500,000. All right. If you start working at 65, $500,000 is 10 years of a $50,000 salary. You run out of money before you run out of life.
So, due respect, man, you talking about travel, you can't even live. H this why I mean you ladies don't do math well in these situations. And I don't want to ask your current salary, but I know you're not making $400,000 a year and you got that saved up. This is the reason why because of the financial situations. So that's another reason why women need to be focused on making sure they have a nest egg. Because I hear y'all talking about this 4B movement and staying single and never having children and don't want to get married. If you're going to take all those things off the table, then just make sure you got your money right because you going to need it when you get older.
Reason to plan. Elderly women highly vulnerable to poverty. Y'all hear that? Elderly women are more likely than men to run out of resources in later life. Divorced or separated women are the most vulnerable because they have lower incomes and fewer resources. The share of elderly women living in poverty is 37% for divorced or separated, 28% for widowed, 22% for never married, and 10% for married. So 37% is the highest and that constitutes or that represents the divorce women. So there are some drawbacks to women initiating all those divorces and you know us being at 50 50% in the US population of divorces. So I mean I don't care about the preferences. You can say you want you know you want to stick it to the men and not have their children and you want to be single and travel the world. Have fun. just make sure you take care of what you need to take care of.
Some woman on somebody's channel was saying that there's a lot more 40year-old black men in nursing homes. So, I was talking to one of my girlfriends who's actually she owns a um senior uh home and cuz I you know I really I really want to open one. So me and her always talking back and forth about little stuff and she was saying that the population in one of her nursing homes in New York, I think she was like it's men between the ages of 47 to like 58. And stop all that goddamn lying.
Something like what you said in the comments. And I was like I wonder why. She said a lot of them never took care of their kids. Well, my mama sent me this Tik Tok of this man saying, "I never thought I was going to be sick. I'm just 45 and I'm sick." And you know, I've been a player my whole life, so I ain't never think I needed a wife to take care of me. And that's how a lot of them think. A lot of them feel that they are supposed to be players. And you know, they don't think about who's going to take care of me if I get sick or even when I stop all that goddamn lions.
This is 16.5% of nursing home residents are under 65 right here. The number of residents under 65 may seem high, but many of these individuals do not reside in nursing homes for age related concerns. A small number of younger residents with severe physical or mental disabilities that prevent them from care for for caring for themselves. It's a small percentage of people. So, they're not in nursing homes for that woman who was uh made that Tik Tok saying that it's a whole bunch of 40year-old black men in nursing homes. That doesn't even pinpoint 40-year-old black men. Like, why? I don't know why all this stuff is focused towards us. Like, we're doing just fine. We already understand that men work harder. We take more risk. You know, um we tend to die at a younger age than women. That's across all races. So why is that trying to being used as a a shaming tactic? This is serious stuff going on here and people using as YouTube talking points to get a oneup to justify them being mad at black men. I guess I don't know. It's embarrassing, man. Hey, hey.
