What the heck has happened to the gloomy Wednesday that we know and love? Today, we're jumping into my favorite episode from season 2, where Wednesday and Enid are forced to switch places, leading to several hilarious moments like we saw at the start with a colorful and joyful Wednesday.
In the first scene we'll learn with, we have a special guest appearance from Lady Gaga, who Wednesday seeks help from after losing her psychic abilities. Wednesday feels lost and powerless. All right, so in her desperation, Wednesday finds herself face to face with the legendary raven, Roselina Rottwood, played by Lady Gaga. That scene was packed with beautiful advanced expressions. So, let's dive right in and learn them.

>> This is an emphatic way to express strong anger. When someone says, "How dare you," they're basically saying, "You have no right to do that." A chamber is just a formal word for a room. Often used in historical or fantasy context. You'll find that Rottwood uses a lot of this type of lovely poetic language.

>> To grant someone something means to allow them to have it when you have the power to do so. For example, when it comes to genies, like in Aladdin, the collocation you'll almost always hear is that they grant you three wishes.

>> Wow, that was just packed with juicy advanced vocabulary, but let me help you to understand 100% of it. The Kraken one's armor means someone's weakness or vulnerability. The one thing that can hurt them even when they seem strong. For example, your armor when you have a conversation in English might be not to speak much to avoid making mistakes. But the crack in that armor could be longing to connect on a deeper level. You need to remove your armor and be vulnerable so that you can correct your mistakes and make meaningful English-speaking relationships. Make sense?

>> Rottwood adds some extra creativity by calling Wednesday's armor monochrome. This means using only one color. In photography or art, a monochrome image is typically black and white. So, she's just emphasizing that Wednesday's armor is monochrome because she only ever wears black and white.

Rottwood is saying that Wednesday tries to control everything and everyone around her with her arrogance. You know what I will tell you? I have never met a more obnoxious, complicated, overbearing, gorgeous, smart, sexy woman in my life.

>> This is a colorful way to say someone has way too much of a particular quality. Positively is used for emphasis in this context. It means absolutely or completely. It's not about being positive or optimistic at all. To wreak literally means to smell terrible, like how milk reeks when it goes bad. However, Rottwood used it figuratively. >> What are you willing to endure to excavate the truth? Willing to endure means ready to suffer through something difficult. Like how Olympic athletes are willing to endure waking up early and difficult training sessions so they can become the best in the world at their sport.

>> To excavate literally means to dig up from the ground. For example, archaeologists excavate in places where they believe dinosaur fossils might be found. However, it's used figuratively, meaning uncover or discover something hidden, like excavating the truth from layers of secrets. By the way, we had a great example of connected speech in Lady Gaga's question. That's how we natives cut, reduce, and link words together in fluent speech. Listen again.

>> So, we can hear Ruced to just an sound. The T from what becomes a tap t which sounds like a soft duh dudd sound. It then links to r. So not what are but water. You'll hear connected questions like this all the time. Look at each of these examples. Think of how you would say it. And then you'll hear me pronounce it. What are you doing? What are they thinking? What are you having for dinner? Now listen to Rottwood again and try to say it just like her.

>> Renewed means restored. like when you renew your passport or renew your energy after a good night's sleep.
>> But beware, if you pull your palm from the flame, you will break the raven's gaze and there will be a price to pay. And we wrap up this scene with an ominous phrase, meaning that there will be negative consequences. When there's a price to pay, someone will suffer or sacrifice something because of their choices. You might hear as a threat like, "You'll pay for that." Meaning that I'm going to get revenge for what you did. Check out this example.
>> You all wanted revenge. Well, now you got it. But there's a price to pay for revenge, and now you got to pay it.
So, Rosene Rottwood cursed Wednesday by switching her and Enid's bodies. However, Wednesday, in Enid's body, is able to contact Rottwood again and learn how to break the curse.

After spending a day literally in each other's shoes, Enid and Wednesday come to appreciate each other on a much deeper level, understanding how challenging it is being the other. And luckily, through this realization, they are able to break Rottw's curse. Let's watch this touching scene.

Now what? Rottwwood said we had to unravel the inmost secrets of the lives we stepped into. To unravel means to solve something complicated, like unraveling a mystery. Innermost refers to the deepest, most private thoughts or feelings. The secrets hidden at the very core of someone's being.

>> To underestimate someone means to think that they're less capable, strong, or important than they actually are. It's the opposite of overestimating. You're not giving them enough credit. The beautiful thing about this scene is how both characters realize they've been judging each other unfairly. Wednesday discovers that Ena's cheerful exterior hides real strength. While Enid sees that even though Wednesday seems fearless, she still has challenges when it comes to her mother's acceptance.
