To get somebody to confess to a crime. It's also the way that you can get someone to do something that's not in their best interest. And it's a four-step protocol. Socialize, minimize, rationalize, and project.
Let's say I'm talking to you and you took $1,000 from a a 7-Eleven somewhere. So, socializing would be, you know, Sean, once people understand who you are and what you're going through in your life, what you did is going to make perfect sense to everybody and people are going to understand.
Minimize is next. I'm a detective here and I've talked to people who take millions of dollars all the time. I talk to murderers and homicide victims. What we're talking about here isn't a big deal. What you did is not a big deal. You made a mistake.
Rationalize. I know you were working at that 7-Eleven. He's not taking care of you guys. And I know you have an aunt that is in the hospital. I think that you did this for the right reason.
Project. This isn't your fault. You reacted in a way that a human reacts [music] in a situation that you were in and anybody would have done what you would have done. That's how you get a confession.
