[Music] all beings on the planet need food to subsist and each ecosystem exists from a balance between these beings food webs are the sets of food chains where each living being fulfills a role let's look in detail we call food chains the process of energy transfer through a series of organisms not all living beings feed in the same way plants for example produce their own food through photosynthesis therefore they are known as producers on the other hand there are animals that feed on other living beings we call this group consumers finally fungi and bacteria feed by degrading waste and remains of living beings we call them decomposers the three groups fulfill a fundamental role in food webs in our forest for example we can identify this food chain the chañar tree which is a producer organism since it generates its own food its leaves and fruits serve as food for many insects and small mammals for example ants and vizcachas these animals are herbivores and we call them primary consumers in turn ants are the main food for anteaters on the other hand vizcachas and other rodents serve as food for the aguará guazú for this reason these animals are secondary consumers the jaguar and the puma can feed on small anteaters and other mammals so they are considered tertiary consumers in some cases quaternary consumers may appear such as the black-headed vulture which feeds on the remains of animals no longer alive we can add one more group to this chain as we mentioned the remains of organisms left in the soil are degraded by decomposers that is fungi and bacteria transforming these remains into nutrients for the soil plants and animals only consume what they need to live thus the natural balance of the food chain is established in each ecosystem many food chains can exist all these chains form what we call a food web thanks to the rich biodiversity of our Chaco forest many complex food webs can coexist it is our responsibility to care for the organisms so that the balance of ecosystems is maintained [Music]
