[music] >> Wait a minute, Alberta. Did you already start the program without me? >> I wouldn't do that. >> Oh my gosh. Well, welcome everyone to the Marketplace Network. I'm Chet McBroome. This is Alberta Quigley, and you're on her program today. And we've got a great topic for you. Uh, especially when we're talking to people who are not of the faith. We're going to look at John chapter 4, the woman at the well. >> Mhm. >> Alberta wanted to communicate today something to make Jesus so real and so approachable, and that he's right there, and you may not even know it. I thought the woman at the well would be a good example of that. >> I think you're right.
>> Uh, so, many of you may not know the cultural backdrop to the woman at the well, the Samaritan woman at the well. So, Jesus was down in Judea, and his boys were baptizing more than John the Baptist's boys, and he was getting some attention, and apparently Jesus was feeling like he was getting a little too much attention, so he decided he better go up to Galilee. And in doing so, you have to pass through Samaria. Now, Samaria is by the Jews seen as a competing faith, almost and almost enemies of the Jewish people, half-breed Jews, so to speak. And so, here we have this woman, a Samaritan woman, that comes out to the well. Now, Jesus is by himself. His uh disciples have gone to get some food or something, and he's by himself. It's in the middle of the day. Now, typically when women in their culture where we're going to go get water, and this may be true even in Africa today. Uh, where they go and they get their water, they do it in the morning, not the afternoon. So, she's showing up at the well by herself because not only is she ostracized from the Jewish community, she's ostracized from her own community. And Jesus is going to expose this truth about her. What was that truth, Alberta, you were talking about? >> Well, he asked her, "Where's your husband?" >> Mhm. Um, and she says, "I have no husband." And what did you >> said, "You've had five." And you're living with one that you're not married to right now. >> Yeah, so apparently in her community, she wasn't well-liked. So, she's trying to show up at the well when nobody's there. >> Mhm. >> So, we have this woman. She's totally outside of even her own community. I wonder how many people feel like that out there, Alberta. I know we have people that maybe think that they're too far gone. They think that I've done things or I've got so entrenched in stuff that's so outside of the world of Jesus, he wouldn't want to reach out to me. >> Well, in that case, I shouldn't know him or be in the ministry. >> Well, I don't think any of us should be. >> Paul said he was a chief of of sinners. You know, I was I I sinned. I I you know, and then I club, nightclub entertainer. No, it was all I did was sing and do it with a band, but I didn't do the other stuff, but still yet, you know, I sinned and sinned a lot. When I was in the nightclub, you know, I only I only dated certain people that I know could protect me. And um I didn't care if they were married or not. >> And that's how I was too when I was in the world. >> You know? And you go out with them and and that's the kind of life I had. You know, drinking and no drugs, but drinking, committing adultery, um sleeping around and thank God the Lord saw something else in me. >> Yeah. >> He didn't see that old Alberta. >> Well, and the crazy thing is today in our time, which was not in the time of dinosaurs, everybody, it wasn't that far back, but in our time that was an unusual, not a regular lifestyle. Today I would say that some of the things that we're talking about that put us outside the community and made us uh living a uh uh a lifestyle that was uh headed for a shipwreck, um today is pretty common. >> Mhm. >> I want to talk about people that may have entered into uh witchcraft or people that have chosen alternative lifestyles or people that are questioning their gender. Do you know that Jesus cares about you? >> Mhm. >> And you may see yourself so far away from him. >> Mhm. >> Just like the Samaritan woman. And yet he's right there and he wants to give you living water. He may reach out to you and ask you for something like he did the Samaritan woman. He asked her to give him some water out of Jacob's well where they were. He's And then she He told her, "If you knew who was speaking to you, I would give you living water." >> Yeah. >> And she wanted the living water. Course, she never did give him water, which is kind of funny in and of itself. >> Yeah. >> And yet, here we are. She says, "Well, we know that, you know, we worship here on this mountain, and the Jews, they worship in Jerusalem." There's an interesting, uh, quote that Jesus has to say here is that "We Jews know who we worship." And then he she says, "Well, we know when the Messiah comes, he'll clear all this up." >> Mhm. >> And Jesus gives her an answer that's crazy. It's one of the most direct answers he gives to anybody in the scriptures. He says, "I'm that man. I am the Messiah. I am the Christ." >> Mhm. >> A person that couldn't even fit into her own community, he approaches, he engages, and clearly tells her clearly who he is. >> Yeah, and and he did it against all odds. Otherwise, he didn't care what they thought about him. >> Well, even that, too. >> Yeah. He he cared about a soul. >> Yep. Culturally, he's not supposed to be doing what he's doing, either. >> Yeah. Yeah, but he cares about like if you're out there in the world and you're thinking, "Well, there's no hope for me." Well, that's a lie. >> That is a lie. >> Who Who would take me, you know? My second book that's coming out will be, uh, "Why Would God Use a Woman Like Me?" >> Mhm. >> You know, but he chose me, and he knew from the beginning how it was going to turn out. But if you will go to him, say you're living wild right now, and you're saying, "Alberta, I can't quit drinking, and I can't be I can't quit living the way I'm living. Uh, he'll deliver you. He'll set you free. >> You're not too far for Jesus. Let's just say if you've made a gender transition, I know people that have transitioned back. >> Yeah. >> Cuz Jesus can do that. >> Yes, he can. He can do anything. And what about the woman taken in adultery? >> Yes. >> Remember they brought the woman to Jesus? >> Mhm. >> And threw her down in front of him and said, "Hey, we're going to stone this woman, you know." >> Now this is a scripture I think that the church misses the right understanding of what's going on here. And you know why? Cuz the church doesn't study the Hebrew scriptures. They're all caught up in the New Testament, and I'm not saying that's wrong, but guess what? There was no New Testament for Jesus, and there was no New Testament for the apostles, and there was no New Testament for the early church. They had letters, authoritative letters from the apostles, but they had no New Testament. And so their Bible was the Old Testament, the Hebrew scriptures, or popular trans translation of that day was a translation in Greek called the Septuagint. But what happens with Jesus with the woman caught in the very act it says of adultery, the Torah teaches that is God's teachings that hit the mark, and sin is to miss the mark, is that both of them were to be brought forth for capital punishment, and it's on the two or three witnesses that capital punishment could be enacted, which is also funny because in Jesus' day the rabbis wanted to avoid capital punishment at all costs. So it was It's that they were trying to set up for Jesus, but of course Jesus knew the Torah and when he was writing in the dirt before him, I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't writing the Torah command about people getting caught in adultery and wondering where is the man or he's writing where is the man and he says, "You who are without sin, that is missing the mark, not following God's teachings >> Yeah. >> and not following God's teachings when somebody's caught in the very act of adultery, where's the man? You who are without sin, you cast the first stone and everybody walked away. Because they knew they had missed it. They had not followed God's teaching and so they walked away. >> Yeah. >> And then Jesus says, "Neither do I condemn you." Of course, you can't condemn a person. Torah teaches us it takes two or three. Can't be one person. So Jesus says, "I'm not condemning you either." He just says, "Go and sin no more." >> Go and sin no more. That's what he said. >> Yeah. He doesn't want her >> Yeah. >> and apparently, you know, we're we're conjecturing here, but you know, if they set her up and that's probably what they did, she had a propensity to that type of sin. So those guys were also enablers, so to speak, into that type of sin with her as well, which is unfortunate. Because in Jesus's day, it's not like today in our society where women are not that vulnerable anymore. There's a lot of professional women out there. There's a lot of women that actually do a really good job in society out there. In Jesus's day, women and children were very much more vulnerable than today. >> Mhm. >> And so, you know, you know, Jesus is taking into account that >> the Lord, if there's anybody out there watching and you think you can't be delivered from things and God can't use you, he's using me. I mean, I've been on all the major networks, Christian networks. Some of them several times. >> I quote you? She says, "I'm just a simple country girl." And so, I like to joke her. We go back and forth. "You're a scholar. I'm just a simple country girl." And in a sense, that is true. So, it you don't have to know everything >> Yeah. >> to get out and minister for the Lord. That's another good point. He's looking for a heart of faith and a heart that wants to serve. >> Yes. And you know what you is all you have to do if you don't know Jesus, just go to him and say, "Lord God, I I don't know you like I want to know you. Will you forgive me of my sins? Come into my heart. Come into my life. Be my Lord and Savior. By faith, I believe you died on the cross. You rose again on the third day. Be my Lord and Savior." I can tell you I have known Jesus for years. He's faithful to his word. >> Mhm. >> He will never leave you. He will never forsake you. And he'll take care of you. >> So, scripture actually tells us in the book of John, John 3:16, everybody sees it at football games and wherever all these athletic events. For God so loved the world. Not Jesus, although Jesus loves us. For God's God the Father so loved the world, he sent his son >> Mhm. >> on a mission. And the mission was not going to be easy. He was going to do something that we couldn't do on our behalf. And all we have to do is accept that finished work of Jesus. Just say, "I accept it." And ask Jesus to come into your life. Challenge the Lord. I've seen a lot of guys, well, not a lot of guys. I know some people that have really moved mightily in the Lord that were deep in the world and they didn't know if God was real. They're like, "Hey, if you're real, show yourself." >> Mhm. >> You can start there. God will meet you where you're at, just like the woman at the well. >> The woman at the well, you know what she did, Chet? Uh, she ran into town where she lived and she told everybody, "This man told me everything I've ever done." And she won many, many to the Lord, they said. >> Well, at least she got their attention and they came out to check out Jesus for themselves and many believed on him because of that encounter. >> took the time at the well. He didn't have to do that. >> No, and he's willing to take the time for anybody out there. >> Mhm. >> Yep. You're not too far gone. >> Yeah. >> I don't care what lifestyle you're in, what deep, dark hole that you've dug for yourself and your life's miserable and you know it, Jesus can pull you out of it. It may not happen overnight, but Jesus wants to give you life and life more abundantly. John 10:10. >> Well, you know, the Lord brought a lot of women in the ministry. He did. >> He did? >> He brought a lot of them that followed him. He brought them into the ministry. He was not against women ministering. >> No, in fact, I'd say he's quite the opposite. >> Yeah, quite the opposite. So, he gave women the freedom to minister if they were called. And you know, if I would have been Jesus and probably some people watching that know me would agree, uh, I would have never picked me. I would have been the last one he picked. But >> The runt of the litter. >> [laughter] >> Yeah, he he really You know, and then he fills us with gifts of the Holy Spirit. >> Yes. >> We receive him and we receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. He uses us in various ways, words of knowledge, prophecy, laying hands on the sick, they recover. >> It's an exciting lifestyle. It's going to be the most challenging lifestyle you've ever had, but I can guarantee it's going to be the most exciting life you've ever led. Now, the first thing that's going to happen, at least it happened with me, he drew me out of nowhere in the world. I had no church experience. Is when you accept him and he moves in and removes the heart of stone, gives you a heart of flesh, and the spirit of God comes in and indwells you, it's a hole that nothing else can fill. You get this peace. You can't explain it. The scripture calls it peace that the world doesn't even understand. And you can experience that right at the beginning. And then God's going to go to work on creating a new you. Why? Cuz he'll want to put you on display. If you're going to partner with God and he's going to come live inside of you, he wants to do a work in you to display you for his glory. It's a wonderful thing. >> And you know, I just thought of men and women in prison. >> Yes. >> I've ministered in prisons before. And uh, you know, you have hope too. If you're watching this show, you have a lot of hope. And uh, sure, you've made mistakes in your life, but the Lord will accept you, no matter what crime you committed. He will accept you if you ask him come into your heart and into your mind, he will forgive you of every sin. He'll come in, he'll deliver you from all your bad habits and the things you used to do. And when I go to the prison, somehow they put me with the men. >> [laughter] >> I get up there and tell you know what I told if you get out of this place and you're going to commit a crime, >> Mhm. >> tell Jesus what you're going to do. And they say, "Huh? Tell him what we're going to do?" Yeah, if you're going to steal a car, rob a bank, go tell him. Huh? He's too holy for that. No, he's not. I said, "Tell him in advance. Do you know what he'll do?" >> What? >> I said, "He will deliver you." >> Mhm. >> He'll take that temptation away. You mean we can talk to the Lord that way? Oh, yeah. We can say, "You know what, Lord? I am tempted." Chad, how many verses about temptation is there in the Bible? >> There's a lot and from the very beginning in Genesis, man is the one who draws away from God. It's God in search of man. It's always been that. And he's searching today >> Mhm. >> for people that will just give him the opportunity. >> Yeah, because if you're if you are uh thinking, "Oh well, I'm in prison. God can never use me." I know of famous ministers that went to prison for 10 years. >> Yep. >> I can't think of his name. 10 years he spent in prison and he's all over the world. He's on a major network. You know, I think it's Daystar. And and he 10 years in prison and he comes out and now he's worldwide. There's so many ministers, men and women that have been in jail and prison. >> Oh, many. I mean, I I can think of many backgrounds where very influential people for the Lord have come from, but they're deep dark holes. >> Yeah. >> And Jesus teaches us in a parable, those who sin much love much. So, usually the most radical believers, the most on fire believers are going to come from the deep deepest darkest holes out in the world cuz Jesus is there for you to pull you out and give you the life that he has destined for you from the beginning. You messed it up. Yeah, it's messed up. You're not happy. You're not satisfied. You've tried a lot of different things. They haven't answered. Whatever that is, that's that hole that only Jesus can fill in your heart. And once you give him the opportunity to move into your life, buckle up cuz you're going to have a good time. >> Yes, and forgive your enemies. That's another big thing I tell them in jail, forgive your enemies. Forgive yourself. Most of them think, how could God use somebody like me? Well, you know, there's many ministers, like I said, who've been in jail and been in prison, and God still uses them mightily. >> Mhm. >> You know, in a for the whole world, to reach the whole world. >> I know gang members personally that are now serving the Lord and uh just complete reversals in their lives, and they're so happy they made the decision just to reach out to Jesus. There was one time where there was a young man who was a in Hawaii. I used to be with the Samoans, hang out with the Samoans, the islanders, and I was over at some friends' house, these Samoans, and they had sent this young man over that was a in uh Hawaii, and they were worried about him, so they sent him over here, this Koma. And uh he was having to go to a rough high school here, and we were eating dinner at the house, and the Lord said, I looked over. It's always good when you don't know who they are. >> Mhm. >> And I looked over, and the Lord told me, "That young man has a servant's heart." And he says, "I want you to pray with him, Chet." And I'm thinking, "How the heck am I going to pray with this young guy, Lord?" >> Mhm. >> You know, so I had to get creative. So, what happened was is that um I decided I would act tired and leave early, leave prematurely, right? >> Mhm. >> And so, I said, "Well, it's time for me to go." And this in the Samoan culture, Christianity is kind of the thing, and so even if you're not going to church, you know, you can usually have somebody pray with you. So, I said, "Hey, why don't we all pray before I leave?" So, I'm like, "Hey, what about you, Andrew?" He's in the kitchen, so he came out, and God just told me to step across, lay my hands on his heart, and I just prophesied on him, and then said, "Okay, goodbye." I don't remember what I told him. And uh I remember Sela, his aunt, asked him, "So, what did you think of that white guy?" And she said, "Man, that white guy freaked me out." But all night, he was asking questions about God. And it was the next That was a Saturday night. The next day, he gave his heart to the Lord. And then he said, "From that moment on, he became a gangster for God." >> Well, you know what? If you're watching this in jail, prison, wherever you are, maybe you're just at your home, in your car, on your phone, whatever. Right now, you want to give your heart to the Lord? Well, Alberta, how hard is it? Do I have to go down and and uh uh doing this and doing that? No. You just take the time right now, and just do like I did. Lord Jesus, forgive me for sins. Come into my heart and into my life. Lord, I believe by faith you died on the cross. You rose again on the third day. I want you to be my Lord and Savior. Jesus, I may not understand everything about you. >> But Lord Jesus, teach me. Teach me your word. Teach me about you. And you know what Jesus will do? He'll come into your heart and into your life. Because I'm going to tell you now there's a real heaven, but there's another place called hell. >> I'm glad you brought that up. >> both real. >> Yeah, because here's the deal. People don't understand this. When my dad was dying from advanced dementia, he had fell. He had a bunch of metal in his leg cuz he had this terrible motorcycle accident. He rode till he was in his 70s or 80s. Big beautiful Harley Electra Glide all over the place. But when he got into an accident and should have bled out, but he didn't. It was like Evil Knievel in one of his legs. And then when he got advanced dementia, he fell and everything shattered in that leg. And we were in the hospital. And my dad looked at me for a moment. God gave us a moment where he was his clarity came back. I mean, this is a man that couldn't even remember I was his son. >> Mhm. >> But a moment of clarity came to him and he looked at me and he said, "Chet, I'm going to die, aren't I?" And I said, "Yes, Dad. Scripture teaches us that uh it's appointed once to man to die and then the judgment." I said, "The problem is not dying." >> Mhm. >> The issue is really uh what happens after death. Because you have to understand, everybody's going to resurrect. Not just believers. >> Mhm. >> Everybody resurrects. And when you resurrect, you have become before him. And I told my dad, "It's not about dying, Dad. It's about when you resurrect, what direction are you going?" >> Mhm. >> And it's so easy. All you have to do is accept what he's done on your behalf. It's that simple, Dad. >> Mhm. >> Because you're going to resurrect. >> Mhm. >> It's just what direction are you going after you resurrect? Are you going to have to experience the second death? It's called the lake of fire in the book of Revelation. Apparently, our souls are designed to be eternal like angelic beings. And there's something that ancient writers called the lake of fire that destroys a person's soul and destroys angelic beings. We don't want to go there. We want to be with the Lord in eternal bliss because he wants to give us a hope and a future. But my dad said, "Okay. I'm willing to accept this, but is it going to hurt?" >> Mhm. >> Cuz [laughter] he was in a lot of pain at the time. I said, "No, Dad. It's going to feel really good." >> Yeah. >> And so, my dad I walked my dad through a simple prayer. It's simple. >> Mhm. >> It was a simple prayer. God will meet you where you're at. He did with me. He did with my dad. >> Mhm. >> And the next day when they got him a room, we were in emergency at that point. When he got a room, and I was by my with by myself with my dad again, all of a sudden for like a few minutes, my dad was back in his right mind. And you know, when a hotel they'll have these TV set or not Excuse me, hospitals. They have these uh TV sets that are up high. And my dad goes, "Son, who are those two guys up there?" He's kind of pointing by the TV set that's up been mounted up high, you know, for the hospital bed. And I go, "What? You mean on TV?" He goes, "No. Those two guys right there." And then I knew it was angelic beings. >> Mhm. >> And I said, "Well, Dad, are they bothering you? Are they pestering you? Do they make you feel uncomfortable?" Well, no. I said, "Do you want to make sure they're the good guys?" And he's like, "Yeah." >> Mhm. >> Cuz there's good guys and bad guys in the spiritual world. So, I prayed a prayer and I said, "How are they responding?" "They're not responding." I said, "Great, Dad. Those angels are guardian angels over you." And I said, "I don't want you to worry about our family. When you see a light behind them and they reach out to you, I want you to go with them. We're going to be all right." And that that was in the 4:00 in the afternoon. That evening, around 12 hours later, my dad passed into eternity. >> Mhm. >> And so, that's a simple way of doing it. >> You know, Chad, I had a uh almost a 5-year-old little granddaughter that I was taking care of and she got up in the morning and I said uh "Do you want to eat breakfast? Do you want to watch cartoons? What do you want to do, honey?" She said, "I want to tell you what happened to me last night, Grandma." I said, "What?" She said, "Jesus came and got me and took me for a visit to heaven." And she told me things that no 4-5-year-old would know that she saw in heaven. "Grandma, it was so bright there." And she told me I don't have time to tell you all the stuff she told me, but it was stuff that no kid her age would even dream of. And I know other people all that have went into heaven, too. It's a real place, but sadly to say, hell is, too. And God want He doesn't want to take anybody to hell. So, as all you have to do is just simply receive him into your heart and into your mind. >> And it's not just about a ticket to heaven. >> It's about getting some blessings here on Earth, him giving him the opportunity to turn everything around in your favor right here, right now. He We want to be a a minister of reconciliation as Jesus is a minister of reconciliation. We're reaching out to you to try to reconcile you with God. When you accept God, guess what he's going to do for you? He's going to reconcile all the mess that you made in your life. Now, back to the woman of the well here as we finish up in John the Gospel of John chapter 4. This is a woman that is not accepted by her own community, is not accepted by the Jewish people, and yet Jesus totally accept like accessible to her. In fact, not only accessible, he approached her and he told her straight up who he was. This is the only person in the Gospels he told straight up who he was. So, I'm telling you, if you think you're too far gone for whatever reason, alternative lifestyles, maybe a transition into another identity, so to speak, you're not too far gone for him. In fact, you're the perfect candidate for him. Alberta? >> Well, let me tell you something right now. The Lord, he even brought prostitutes to him. And and he's The book of John says >> of the closest women, like Mary Magdalene, cast out seven demons out of her. She most likely was a prostitute, and some of the closest women to Jesus during his ministry, who was a part of his ministry, come from that walk of life. >> He was the only man that never committed a sin. He was God in the flesh. >> Oh, absolutely. >> never committed any sin, but he loved everyone. And he I marvel over having the woman at the well. He really had to I mean really had to uh He didn't otherwise, let me put it this way. He wanted to win her to him more than he cared about what they all said about him. >> That's right. >> he he's real. >> Yeah. >> Jesus Christ is real. >> Well, history proves that outside of the Bible. >> I I can't tell you. I don't have time right now, but he's been in at least three of my meetings and a lot of people have seen him. And and I want to tell you he's he's so real you can reach out and touch him. He knows everything about you. He formed you in the womb. That's what the Bible says. He knows everything about you. But right now, brother, how much time do we have? >> We're finishing up. So, what do you got in your hand there? >> this is a book that uh my book, Unlimited God. And you can get it uh anywhere in the the uh Amazon or whatever. I'd like you to read it. If you like it, let me know. >> They're testimonies about things in Alberta's life cuz she's been a woman that's been through it. And so uh they're very encouraging and uplifting. >> And my second book's coming out, Why Would God Use a Woman Like Me? That's going to be something else. In fact, if you know some people that could benefit, maybe you're a believer, but you know some people maybe in your circle that feel like they can't reach Jesus. To show them and demonstrate that they're not too far gone. Jesus wants them. We live in a day and age right now where God is working incredible [snorts] things. There is revival and people coming to the Lord in numbers like never before. Because the Bible teaches us where darkness abides, grace abides all the more. So we're we're in a deep dark place in the world today and so the light is piercing through even that. >> And hurry and make that decision. Make it by faith. Just tell the Lord, "I don't understand, but I'm going to commit my life to you." He'll forgive you. Believe me, he'll never leave you or forsake you. I've known him a long time and he has been with me in every situation. Still is. I've made mistakes. >> And there's been some hard situations. >> But first >> in the book. >> But 1 John 1:9 says, "If you will go to him, ask him to forgive you for your sins, he will forgive you and cleanse you of all unrighteousness." That's 1 John 1:9.
