Chapter 15: A Life Recycled

Story One: The Suitcase

My sweet granddaughters were small when they lived in Wisconsin, and my woods in Tennessee seemed pretty far away from them back then. They were coloring-book age, and it seemed much simpler to be able to entertain them at that age than now that they are finally young women. Back then, fun Woods cartoons, videos, and crafts could do it. I was excited about their rare visit to me; I was glad to be able to see them once a year, as life's business and distance would limit it. Like a kid myself, I went out shopping and found long plastic necklaces of beads, colored pencils, and fresh Crayolas. I got snacks and cards and books, and I just had fun building a special play box for them.

I woke up one morning the week before they arrived and wished I had something fancier than a box to put their brand-new things in; then and had to be special. But what? The week before they arrived, I was cleaning and decided to take a load of trash to the dump. It doesn't really feel like a dump, as our county has a very neat and clean trash and recycling center with an attendant. Sometimes the attendant at my closest center grabbed things with life still left in them that people tossed away; he sets an item out next to the crusher so someone else might see it who may want it. On this particular day, I pulled up and pitched my garbage bag into the crusher, and there in plain sight was a rescued little kid's red suitcase. It was just the right size for the girls' new toys. I grabbed it and could not believe my eyes. It was red vinyl from the 1960s; it was in perfect shape; in fact, it looked like it had never been used. It needed a good cleaning with a soapy rag, but that was about it. I wondered where it had been all these years that it didn't even smell musty at all; it had to be over 50 years old at least.

What was so amazing was that on the front of the suitcase, there was a factory painting, also in perfect shape. There were words that said, "Going to Grandma's." There were two cartoon children factory-painted on it also. How could this be? It was a collector's item for sure, and it had found me somehow, right when I was looking for it. The girls carried it all around the house full of their fun things, and it turned out to be perfect. I still have it in my closet; when I see it every day, I think of them, and I smile at the synchronicity of everything around us at all times and how much fun it is to manifest all that we desire. How did the perfect little suitcase get there on just that day? It's just the moment, so only I would grab it in time. It was so lovely; it could not have been sitting there long, as someone else would have taken it. Was I just lucky? Were my angels and guides helping me along the way? I don't know, but I do know that large desires are small; it is beautiful to draw more and more beautiful things, too much, which simply means we have more to share with others. Thank you to all, as I Claire declare I'm always incredibly grateful for all that comes my way.
