Okay, I just saw an interview between John Stewart and Mom Donnie, and I got to tell you, that's one of the most disingenuous things I've ever seen.
Um, there's three lies that democratic socialists always tell everybody. The first lie is they chalk up anything you don't like about society as if it's unique to capitalism as opposed to just a part of human nature. Greed is not unique to capitalism. Income inequality is not unique to capitalism. Income inequality takes place everywhere to include socialist governments. I promise you Stalin was living a whole lot better than the coal miners that worked under the Soviet Union.
The second lie is is they list off a lot of flowery instates and they pretend that that's all socialism is. Oh, socialism is free healthcare. It's free education. It's free housing. Or as Mandani put it, democratic socialism is just choosing to work for hardworking people every day. No, it isn't. Democratic socialism is like all socialism, an attempt for the government to seize and manage the means of production. They want the government to run the economy. That's what socialism is. That's the unique defining characteristic of socialism. It's not happy, free puppy dogs for everyone. It's government running the economy.
And then third, they try to pretend like anything that you like in the form of a government service is therefore socialism. Well, the government has libraries and you like libraries, right? So, of course, you would like Soviet style dictatorship. No, I don't. I can distinguish between the government using tax dollars in order to provide a public service and the government running the economy. I can choose the difference between the government providing tax dollars for a library and then shutting down every single book manufacturer because the government wants to be the sole entity responsible for determining what sort of books can be published and distributed.
So please understand the differences and don't buy into this crap from the democratic socialists. What Mani wants is completely antithetical to what the entire American experiment is. He wants government control where our founders tried to establish a government where the people would be in control. And the people can't be in control if the government's the one that owns all the means of production. Because ultimately what it will create is dependency on the very politicians that our founders were trying to prevent from concentrating power.
