Perhaps, many have noticed that the universally loved or "free" Google Chrome browser, out of nowhere, started to lag severely even on the most powerful devices. And it wasn't always about the number of open tabs or the installed RAM. Often, Chrome lags precisely for its internal reasons. If you watch this video to the end, you will definitely be able to avoid browser slowdowns and significantly speed up its operation. I cannot say that Chrome is hopelessly bad, but initially, it has quite a few settings. In the Google Chrome browser, most innovations or customization parameters are not available to a wide range of users. After all, everyone has seen that small list of settings that are present in the corresponding tabs. But more in-depth settings, which allow you to drastically change the program's operation, are hidden from a wide range of users. This is most likely done because developer service functions are located there, which, after testing, may appear in the general list. The first thing you need to do is open Chrome and in the address bar, which is the search bar, enter the following: "chrome://flags". After that, confirm your action with the Enter key. A large list of settings will open, and unfortunately, they are all in English, so if you don't know what you're doing, it's better not to change anything. And Google warns about this, specifically stating that by enabling these features, you may lose browser data or compromise your security or privacy. Enabled features apply to all users of this browser. If you are an enterprise administrator, you should not use these flags in a work environment. This simply means that if you don't know what you're doing, it's better not to mess with it. But we, you and I, are smart. Opposite each item, there are values: Enabled to turn on or Disabled to turn off. In most cases, the default value is set. The first thing I suggest considering is the settings related to the graphics accelerator. And if you have a full-fledged graphics card, not an integrated one, then you can try changing these items to achieve the best browser loading result. And most importantly, remember. If something goes wrong, you can always return to the initial state by resetting all settings to the factory default with a single key. So, let's go point by point. Override Software Rendering List The first parameter, whose name you see now, will allow you to guarantee the rendering of all incoming information through the installed graphics accelerator, even if it is not supported by browsers. To quickly find this function, copy the name from the description or, if you're not lazy, just type it in. But it's easier to open the description under the video, where I will leave the names of all the discussed items. And set the value to Enabled, meaning turn it on. GPU Rasterization. This is another menu item that allows you to offload page processing from the processor to the installed video card. It allows you to reduce the overall system load by using the graphics accelerator's resources. Browser pages will open significantly faster, but you sacrifice RAM and the graphics processor to constant load. We also set the value to Enabled; we will do this for all subsequent values. Choose ANGLE graphics backend. Force the OpenGL driver to work on computers with the Windows operating system. It allows you to increase performance in most applications, not just in the Chrome browser. In most cases, this will be noticeable on graphics cards from NVIDIA. Additionally, switching this parameter will reduce the power consumption of the built-in battery, which will positively affect laptop owners and smooth out the image when scrolling pages and playing videos, especially with high resolution. Smooth Scrolling. Again, an ideal option for owners of rather weak computer equipment and slow internet speeds. Enabling this parameter will make smooth scrolling of loaded pages smoother and reduce the system's central processor load. Believe me, when editing text or reading a large amount of information, this is a very useful item that reduces eye strain, and it is also much more aesthetically pleasing when the screen image moves smoothly. Parallel Downloading. Allows you to split the file download stream into several; in fact, by default, Google Chrome is always configured for single-stream downloads. Parallel downloading automatically splits files and distributes them among streams; of course, the internet speed must be appropriate, otherwise all efforts will be irrelevant. Experimental QUIC Protocol. Again, this parameter reduces the time it takes to access a remote server to get the necessary information. This protocol was created back in 2012 but has not gained widespread adoption since then. The reduction in connection time is achieved through a single connection to establish communication, rather than multiple. This significantly unlocks its potential.
