First, let's understand about unsafe conditions. Unsafe conditions means any condition that can endanger your life or pose a hazard to any person's health. This person can be anyone, such as an authorized person, or the person working there, or any person within the premises. For example, as you can see in the image, there is a forklift, and the fork of the forklift is at the very top. Some material is placed on that top fork, and you can also see that the material placed on the fork is not placed properly or correctly. If it is pushed even a little bit here, there is a high probability that all this material will fall down. This is called an unsafe condition here. Similarly, in the second image, you can see that material is being lifted with the help of a sling. But in one sling, you can see that the sling is not attached properly and there is a crack in it. So, this is called an unsafe condition.
Let's now understand about unsafe acts. An unsafe act means any individual person who has the knowledge and also knows how to control any existing unsafe condition or action. But they perform or choose such an action, or they ignore that condition. Especially workers often perform unsafe acts to save their time or effort. As you can see in the image, some material is placed on the fork of the forklift, and this fork is at the top. The material placed on this fork is not placed properly or correctly. And directly below that fork, under that material, a person is standing. So, any action performed by this person here is called an unsafe act. Similarly, in the second image, you can see that material is being lifted with the help of a crane. The material has slings attached to it from all sides. But directly below it, two people are talking. So, the action performed by them here is called an unsafe act.
Let's now understand about near misses. A near miss is also called a near hit or a close call. It is an unplanned event that has the potential to cause harm, but in reality, its result is not any human injury, environmental damage, or equipment damage. Or there is no interruption in the normal operations. Then it is called a near miss. As you can see in the image, the material placed on the fork of the forklift suddenly falls down. But persons are standing right next to it. However, when this material falls down, it falls beside the person and not on them. But that material could have fallen on the person, but it did not. If it had fallen, they could have been injured, but that did not happen. So, this is called a near miss. Similarly, in the second image, you can see that the material that was being lifted by the crane. Here the sling breaks, and that material falls directly down. But this material falls right next to the persons, not on them. This means that this material had the potential to cause injury, but no injury occurred here. So, this is called a near miss.

Let's now understand about accidents. An accident is an unintended and especially unwanted event that is not directly caused by humans. But an accident is a term that says that no one should be blamed here. But it is an event that happens due to unrecognized or unaddressed risks. As you can see in the image, the material placed on the fork of the forklift was not correct, and directly below it, a person was standing. Now, when this material directly falls on that person, an accident occurs here. So, this accident happened due to unrecognized or unaddressed risks. Similarly, in the second image, you can also see that the material was being lifted by the crane. Here, due to the breaking of the sling, this material falls directly on the two people below. This means that this accident happened due to the unrecognized or unaddressed risks.
