Do this drill to stop topping your irons 🤝

Start doing this to stop topping your irons. The reason why we top our irons is because in the downswing we lean back and stand up.

Now, the arms and hands have to flick this club down to try to time it up and more likely than not you catch the top of the ball. We need to feel a nice shift into our lead side in order to stay down and compress the ball.

What I want you to do is set up to the ball off of your front foot like this. Take your back foot, step it behind you, and start with a few practice swings. Bring the club to the top of your swing, you should feel like you're loading a lot of your weight onto this front leg. Try to make a follow through without leaning back.

If you do lean back, you're going to lose your balance, you're going to get that instant feedback. Feel like your weight is staying primarily on this front leg and brush the grass on the way through. Hit a few chip shots, just 50 to 60 yards out there, nothing crazy. Really feeling your chest stay down and weight stay forward.

You notice that you should start getting a little divot after the ball, which means you're staying down properly. Now, when you get into your full swing, I want you to over exaggerate this feeling. Don't slide everything forward and come super steep. Just feel like in the downswing you're getting into this left leg and the chest is staying down over the ball.

Now, all of a sudden you don't have to throw your hands and wrists at it. You can just turn your upper body and the club will come down through the impact zone real nice.
