Uh, recently I just realized, looking at my videos, that I'm talking like a Russian comrade from KGB, but I'm not from KGB, and I'm not a Russian comrade. So, you know, it is what it is. I'll try to improve with time. We'll hope that it would be better, uh, with practice. Anyway, today we're going to talk about digital nomads.
There are many countries you can go if you consider yourself as a digital nomad. You can be either digital nomad, remote entrepreneur, freelance, or something else. And people go all over the world, uh, looking for a nice place to settle or just looking for a nice place to be for a while and move to the next nice place. What countries can it be? There are digital nomad hubs or expert communities where usually some experts and some digital nomad entrepreneurs are staying—is a long time, a short time—and going to the next destination.
One of the places is Thailand. You all know that. Please don't go to Phuket; there are better places in Thailand: Krabi, Koh Lanta, Chang Mai. Uh, you will see that there are many people who are kind of relaxed, doing their own business, earning money online or having a business abroad and enjoying themselves.
Uh, there are other countries like the Philippines, Boracay, Palawan Islands, or many others. You can go search for a nice place, live in a chill, relaxed environment, have nice food, waking up every day to the sun, enjoying yourself, being just a cool, chill person, earning your millions online, and everything would be fine. Also, Indonesia: Bali, Nusa Lembongan, Lombok, or even remote locations like Flores or maybe even Raja Ampat if you like. Indonesia recently introduced, um, new internet facilities, so even in Komodo Islands you will get a nice internet. It's definitely worth going. You will see nice, uh, luminescent, uh, ocean if you go in by the ship, or you will just see beautiful places around Komodo. You will see dragons, and also in Raja Ampat, despite it being a remote location, there are places where you can get a nice internet and work online—no problem. Have a nice and quiet, chill time. If you like diving, freediving, or maybe sailing, no problem. Indonesia, one of the countries.
Of course, there are countries like Cambodia, Vietnam. Some people go in there as well. It's very popular in the Russian-speaking community, especially Vietnam, because it's cheap, because it's nice, nice internet. People go there too. I don't know about Western expats in Vietnam; didn't hear many stories about them. Of course, there are countries like, uh, highly developed countries like Japan. Some people going there just enjoy themselves. Some people going to Europe: Italy, Portugal, Madeira Island, enjoying having time there, nice internet, nice food, average cost of living—no problem. You can get a nice, decent flat in Madeira for €1,000, which is absolutely affordable, maybe right now a little bit high. It really depends on your criteria. I know people who get a nice place for €600, and know people who get a nice place for €2,000. It really depends.
What other nice places are we having? If you kind of like it cold countries like the north of England, but I strongly do not recommend going there, or maybe Norway, it really depends on your preference where you would like to spend your winter month. Maybe Iceland? Iceland's quite nice. So, also there are remote islands like the Seal Islands. They offer nomad, uh, digital nomad visa, Réunion, Mauritius, Barbados. They all looking for remote entrepreneurs, for remote for digital nomads, for freelancers who are earning a decent amount of money, coming to the country, not claiming benefits, spending money in the country, a little bit being a tourist or becoming a local if you like and moving on.
And by this we are having a nice New World where we are not tied to one country. I used to live in the UK for many years. I used to live in Latvia for many years. I traveled Europe in, uh, various countries. It's nice during the summer, really nice, but it's not so nice during the winter. And also possibilities which are available to everyone, they're not opening if you're just doing a normal job, like an everyday job. They're not opening because online you can do anything. It's online is the future. Online, virtual reality, virtual reality is a future, and uh, traditional education, traditional way of living is the past. So we have to move forward, and we have to change our, uh, conscious mind to earn money online, to live a nice, beautiful life, to meet new people, uh, to surround yourself with beautiful partners or whatever, who, whatever, whoever it is, and, uh, just chill.
Also, digital nomads do not pay taxes. This is a benefit. For example, in the UK, if you're earning £200,000 and you, you pay taxes, you're losing just about 100,000. Why would you want to do that if you can work through the company, do it online, and, uh, leave somewhere nice, I don't know, in Seal Islands, or you can work through the special purpose company, have an off-shore island, and you pay zero tax on worldwide income and on the income earned on the island. There is no way anybody in a nice mind would want to do that, would want to stay in the country, be taxed to the latest penny, and just, uh, trying to survive. Very, very strange experience, very strange. But anyway, it's not ending with Asia. There are also African countries as well. I'm yet to discover a few, but I know for fact that Morocco offers nice digital nomad facilities. I'm going to Tunisia to check out on what is available in Tunisia for people who are part of the digital nomad community. I am going to, uh, in, in the autumn, I'm going to Hawaii, I'm going to Samoa, I'm going to Fiji to explore a little bit. I know that Sri Lanka offers a nice environment being a digital nomad. I know that Goa, India, offers really nice facilities, and you can stay up to 5 years. Very easily obtainable visa in India, just enjoying themselves, enjoying yourself and just, just doing your work, minding your own business, enjoying life, building a family or maybe a few if you like. It really depends.
So yeah, the modern world is absolutely beautiful. So if you're looking, um, to move out of your country, just think about the possibilities available to you and just, just buy a ticket for many passports. Asia is open. There are some problems currently in Thailand. Uh, DTV visa was nice and, uh, easily achievable, nice. Now DTV visa is not that straightforward. Uh, people, um, sometimes having, um, refusal, absolutely blunt refusal with no explanation. We never know. However, submissions through Stockholm, most submissions through Cyprus or any other, uh, Thai embassies are still okay, but for, for us people living in Europe it's not a problem. Anyway, where else you can go? To be honest, you can go anywhere, because even, uh, Asian countries like, um, Kazakhstan or Turkmenistan or some, uh, even China offers you a nice, good environment to work online. Some people have, uh, have in mind that in those countries are maybe a little bit dangerous, maybe it's ex-Soviet Union, maybe, maybe, but some people going there, so you never know. Even some places in the USA are still nice. Again, you can—I've been to Alaska recently and I love it. Alaska is a really cool place to stay alone during the winter, maybe not alone, maybe with friends, in some remote locations, location, snow everywhere, beers everywhere, you're making fire in your cabin, working online—no problem. This is really romantic.
So yeah, just think about all the possibilities and don't be stuck in one country forever. Definitely I would encourage you to travel, enjoy yourself, and if you like the country, then and only then you subscribe to this country via taxes you pay to this country. Subscription comes usually after 180 days. So 180 days is a trial period. Some countries have it less, some countries have it longer, but this is average, like 183 days to be honest, uh, is a time where free trial ends and you have to pay subscription, and subscription is taxes you pay to the country.
