The Courage to Change

Whatcha you doing? Just thinking.

About what? Thinking... And what do you think about it? I think I do it too much. You want to change that? I think so, but I don't know how.

What do you mean? I have a bad tendency when there's something important on my mind, some decision to be made, to get into loops of thinking too much. I introspect endlessly in circles, paralyzed by my own overactive brain, and once I'm in this place I'm stuck 'cause I forget what it was like to be anywhere else--to be normal.

Why can't you just leave? You heard what I said. I don't know how. I suspect the solution. Where does one begin to stop oneself from thinking so much? I suspect the solution isn't as difficult as you seem to think it is... I wish that were true, but you see, even after I think of a way to resolve this, I have to return to the other matters on my mind that set this cruel cycle in motion. People who truly want to make a change just make the change.

What do you mean? Have you ever considered that perhaps your thinking is but a means to delay the inevitable? What are you saying? Has this time spent thinking brought you any closer to decisive resolution? As long as you stay out here in the realm of "what if?", you bear no responsibility, because everything... everything is hypothetical. However, once you make up your mind, you are bound to your choice and whatever comes of it.

So what? I'm choosing to not change? If your desire was truly to be free from this, then would your actions not take you in a direction opposite to that which you've been going? Then why can't I bring myself to do it? Because, you're still finding it.

Finding what? The Courage to Change.

So what now? It's your choice. Ventured deeper into the rabbit hole, delay the inevitable, and continue on your current path... or as I'd suggest: You take a step of courage, pick a new direction and Just make the change.
