If you've never heard the voice of the Holy Spirit clearly for yourself, I want to give you my process for hearing the Holy Spirit with confidence. Once you learn these truths, you'll never be the same.

Number one, relax. Now, I know that doesn't sound spiritual, but seriously, you have to calm down. Stop obsessing over ideas like, "Oh, I'm missing the voice of the Holy Spirit." Or, "Maybe God's trying to tell me something and I'm just not able to hear him." Stop freaking out. You have to learn to trust in God's ability to get through to you. It's not that we're so good at hearing the Holy Spirit that we can now be confident. I mean, think about this. We're fallible. We have emotions. We have thoughts of our own. We can get all mixed up and tangled up in self. So, we're not trusting in our ability to hear the Holy Spirit. We're trusting in the Holy Spirit's ability to get through to us.

Now, when you finally do begin to relax, and I know this is going to be hard to do because in letting go of this idea that you have to live in this tension of trying to hear God and letting go of that, you actually begin to walk in freedom and trust. And in trusting God, you can actually hear him more clearly. You are set free from what I would call religious OCD. Because when I first got saved and I wanted to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit, I became obsessively compulsive about wanting to hear the Holy Spirit to the point where when I was getting ready for the day, and I'm not joking. I'm I seriously did this. When I was getting ready for the day, I would do things like, "Well, Lord, do you want me to wear the red shirt or the blue shirt?" And finally, once I was dressed for the day, I would hear little things like, "Go to that gas station, stand on the corner, and sit at that bus stop for the for the next hour or so." And I'd be like, "Okay, well, maybe this is a Lord. maybe this isn't or every person I passed it would be like well maybe God wants me to say this to them or walk up to that person and use this random phrase and it created this tension in me this worry this anxiety and that's not life in the spirit so watch this look at in 1st Samuel chapter 3 I'm going to give you an example of this 1st Samuel chapter 3 let's go to verse one meanwhile the boy Samuel served the Lord by assisting Eli now in those days messages from the Lord were very rare and visions were quite uncommon one night Eli who was was blind by now, had gone to bed. The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was sleeping in the tabernacle near the ark of God. Suddenly, the Lord called out, "Samuel." "Yes," Samuel replied. "What is it?" He got up and ran to Eli. "Here I am. Did you call me?" "I didn't call you," Eli replied. "Go back to bed." So, he did. So, here, just up to verse 5, we see that Samuel's already hearing the Lord, but he's just not recognizing that it's him. Verse six, then the Lord called out again. Samuel. Again, Samuel got up and went to Eli. Here I am. Did you call me? I didn't call you, my son. Eli said, "Go back to bed." Samuel did not yet know the Lord because he had never had a message from the Lord before. So the Lord called a third time. And once more Samuel got up and went to Eli, "Here I am. Did you call me?" Then Eli realized it was the Lord who was calling the boy. So he instructs Samuel saying, "Hey, that's the Lord." Now, I want you to notice something here. God didn't get angry with Samuel just because he didn't recognize that he was the one trying to get through to him first. What did he do? He spoke again and again and again until the conditions were such that finally Samuel recognizes that the Lord was speaking to him.

So now that your perspective is correct because I don't want to give the impression that there's some formula that we have to enact or some religious protocol or methodology that we have to implement in order to hear the Holy Spirit. No, it's a matter of simple biblical principles. Living a life of faith, living a life of surrender, living a life of trust. So you can at least be set free from this overbearing idea that you have to live in this spiritual paranoia constantly wondering, did God say this? Did God say that? Is that God speaking to me? Just trust him. He knows how to talk to you. He's God. He knows how to get through to you if he wants to get through to you.

Number two, you have to read. The word makes you familiar with the voice of the Holy Spirit. If you're serious about hearing the Holy Spirit, you're going to be serious about reading the word. Don't tell me you want to hear the Holy Spirit if you're not dedicated to the word. Why would why would God give to us the spoken revelation to our hearts if we've not been faithful to receive the written revelation on the pages of the Bible? God already gave us scripture. That's the first step. So, you receive that. And by the way, if you're in the word, this is going to solve 99% of the issues that you're seeking God's help for. You get in the word, you start to know God's ways, his mind, his nature. You start to know his power. You start to know how he operates and thinks. And so once you learn this, you're able to more clearly hear the voice of the Holy Spirit. 2 Timothy 3:16 says this, "All scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. is it corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work." So every good work you need to do, the word of God's going to equip you for that. Psalm 119 98 and 999, "Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they are my constant guide. Yes, I have more insight than my teachers, for I am always thinking of your laws." So you've got to get the word in you. If you don't have the word in you, you're not going to be able to hear the Holy Spirit with clarity.

Now, if you're enjoying this message and you want to help spread this message to others, make sure to leave a like on the video. Number three, meditate on the word. Okay, so you've relaxed. You've accepted God's going to get through to me when he wants to get through to me. I can trust that he knows how to speak to me. And then you become a person of the word. You grow in wisdom. You grow in the knowledge of God. You start to become familiar with his nature. Now, you have to meditate on the word. In other words, you have to take what you've read and rehearse it in your mind again and again. Meditation, simply put, is repetition in thought. I know that there's this new age method of meditation, but I'm not talking about the counterfeit. I'm talking about the biblical true version of meditation which is to fill your mind with the word of God to fill your mind with the things of God and to concentrate on those. So contemplation and reflection as you read the word asking the Lord to speak to you as you pour over the scriptures to say Lord what are you wanting to say to me through your word God what are you trying to correct in me what direction are you trying to point to God what are you trying to speak to me through your word you go to the word and you rehearse the word proverbs 4:es 20-22 say this my child pay attention to what I say listen carefully to my words don't lose sight of them let them penetrate deep into your heart for they bring life to those who find them and healing to their whole body. So now it's not just me getting into the word but the word now getting into me. I become like a sponge soaking up the truth of the word and it fills my being until there's overflow in my life. So don't just read the word, think about the word. Cuz here's the problem, especially in this day and age where we can just swipe real quickly up as we're scrolling through different uh reels on a video platform. This is how we think sometimes. We think that we could just get it done with and move on. But that that's not the way that the Lord wants us to do it. We're talking about sacred ancient truth. And this is of course sacred ancient truth that we're receiving in a fast-paced modern world. And so we have to meditate.

Which actually leads to point number four, which is slow down. The pace of your life has to be such that you're able to yield to the instructions that the Holy Spirit gives to you. Sometimes the Holy Spirit speaks to us and we know it's him speaking to us, but we're going at such a fast pace that we believe our own lies. I'll get to that later. I'll pray later on. I'll read the Bible tonight. Then tonight comes and you say, I'll read the Bible tomorrow. But if the pace of your life is so quick that you're so rushed, your mind is so cluttered with so many different things in this world, then you're going to have a lot of trouble recognizing the voice of the Holy Spirit. And even when you do recognize the voice of the Holy Spirit, you're going to have a lot of trouble responding to the voice of the Holy Spirit. Why? Because there's going to be this hesitant pull on you. You're going to hesitate with the voice of the Holy Spirit because the different things and cares of this world are pulling at your heart.

In Matthew 11:es 28-30, we read this. Then Jesus said, "Come to me all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light." Think about all of the belief systems we accept, that we embrace, that we implement in our lives. All of the ideas and philosophies of the world. All of the ideas that come from religious thinking. And here Jesus is saying, "Come to me. I want you to rest." This is about eliminating worry and hurry. And by the way, worry and hurry go hand in hand. This is about coming to the place where your soul is at ease. Where you're not all worked up about everything around you, but you're saying, "Okay, I'm coming to the Lord Jesus. I want to be embraced by him, and I want to find that rest that he offers because I know that he gives to me a burden that is light." His yoke is easy. His burden is light. In other words, his yoke, his teaching, his way of thinking, his way of living, his way of perceiving is light. pray, worship, read the word, go to church, fellowship with believers. And if your life is so fast-paced that it's a struggle to do that, then you need to start doing some serious reflection. Listen to me. Your soul is in danger. Your soul is in danger. When you live a life of worry and haste, when you live a life that's so fast-paced that it crowds out the sacred and the spiritual, then you're just left with the mundane, the natural, the here and the now. What about the then and the there? Don't just think about the temporary. Think about the eternal. Don't just think about self. Think of the things of the spirit. And if you're going so fast that you're not able to embrace these spiritual disciplines, then of course it's going to be difficult for you to recognize the Holy Spirit when he's speaking to you.

By the way, if you want to learn more on the voice of the Holy Spirit, then make sure you get Holy Spirit God within you available at encounterthespirit.com.

Number five, obey what's clear. This is so key. Th this right here is a missing piece that just isn't talked about often enough. You need to obey what you know God is saying. How many times do we say things like, "Oh, God has been speaking to me about this, but you know, I'm just hesitating." Or, "Man, you know, God really wants me to do X, Y, and Z, but you know, I'm just I'm just working on myself until I get there. And I understand that the call of God is progressive, but what about the things that God has told you to do right here, right now? What about the things God told you to get rid of? What about the things God told you to start doing? What about the mindsets and the attitudes that God already spoke to you about that you're procrastinating on simply because you have some spiritual sounding excuse like, "I'm waiting on God or God is dealing with me." No, delay is disobedience. You have to obey what God is speaking to you.

Look at what Psalm 37:23 and 24 say. The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall. For the Lord holds them by the hand. So notice here that the Lord directs the steps of who? The godly. That's people who live according to his ways. Look at Proverbs chapter 3:es 5 and 6. Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do. There's the condition. Here's the result. And he will show you which path to take. If you're struggling to find which path to take, it's likely because you're not obeying what God has already given to you. We're saying, "God, I want steps 7, 8, and nine." And he's going, "You haven't even taken step one."

So, I know that there are many things that are going to be unclear. What job does the Lord want me to have? What spouse is he calling me to marry? Where does he want me to live in terms of my geographic location? I get it. There's all these different opportunities, all these different decisions. And sometimes those things aren't immediately and super clear. So this is why in the meantime, you have to obey what you know is God. Obey what you know the Lord is already saying. How do we do that? Through his word. So live holy, live with boldness, live with righteousness. Worship, pray, read the word, fellowship with other believers, expand the kingdom of God, use your gifts to fulfill his purposes. Do that in the meantime while you wait for those specific details. But don't allow the lack of details to cause you to ignore the voice of the Holy Spirit when he speaks in a general broader sense.

Now, it's time to take this to the next level because these are all wonderful practical keys. Again, you relax, calm down, accept that he's going to speak when he wants to speak and he knows how to get through to his children. Read the word, meditate on the word, slow down the pace of your life, obey. And this next point, this is key. Seek God passionately. Now, I want to be clear about the way I say this because I don't mean to imply that we can force God to speak. That's just a silly idea. Nor do I mean that we have to seek God because he's off at a distance. No, the Holy Spirit dwells in you. The presence of the Holy Spirit dwells within you. You're his vessel. He that is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him. So you're already living in union with the father. So you're not seeking him because you're trying to get something from him. You're seeking him because you're trying to allow for that influence that's already within you to begin to affect every other part of your life.

In James 4:8, come close to God and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners. Purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. There's this place that you can come to in the Lord where dreams, visions, encounters, miracles, those things become more commonplace. The supernatural realm is not off at a distance. The kingdom of God is inside of you. Within you, there is a world teeming with activity and life and energy and vitality. And it's just beyond that step of faith. It's not a matter of getting God necessarily to literally come closer. The scripture here is teaching us to become more aware of the presence of the Lord already with us. Jeremiah 29:13, if you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. And now you enter this place where you're being drawn in by that spiritual hunger. By the way, not desperation. Desperation has its place. There are moments to be desperate, but desperation is not the lifestyle. Why? Because desperation implies lack. There's a difference between being hungry for God and starving. Hungry means you're eating of him regularly. Starving means you're neglecting your spiritual life. So, you're looking for those big moments to make up for that. No, I'm talking about hunger. A lifestyle of pursuing God. A lifestyle of seeking his face. A lifestyle of saying, "Lord, I want to know you more. I want to be trusted with the secrets of the spirit. I want to be trusted with encounters in your presence. Lord, open the door in my life to the prophetic, to dreams, to visions. There are seasons of your life where you'll notice it seems that that that line between you and the supernatural realm is just gone. It goes from being a bold line to being a dotted line. And and we in the spirit begin to be able to live in both supernatural and natural with ease. By the way, you don't have to work up to the supernatural. You don't have to step down to the natural. They just become one and the same. And it's in this place now that you'll begin to hear from the Holy Spirit for those clear, distinct, specific instructions, not even just concerning you. And this is what's so amazing is now you become a person who's not only hearing God clearly and regularly for yourself, but now the Holy Spirit begins to reveal things for the sake of others around you. And you can help those around you because you've begun to live a lifestyle of the pursuit of God, seeking him and recognizing him that every day you need him.

Father, I pray you help them do it. Lord, even now they hunger for more of you. And father, while we understand that all that you are already dwells within us, I pray that you would cause us to yield and surrender to the influence of the Holy Spirit. Lord, take that one watching now to higher heights and deeper depths. Remove the tethers that cause them to be trapped by the carers of this world. Set them free, I pray. open their eyes and ears of the spirit today. Right now, I pray that today would be a day that you open their eyes and their ears. Just say that to him right now. I want you to whisper that to him. Say, "Lord Jesus, open my spiritual eyes. Open my spiritual ears." Let it be so, Lord. and cause them to hear the voice of the precious Holy Spirit with confidence and clarity as they obey your word. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. And I want you to say it because you believe it. Say, "Amen."
