In a few interesting cases, really, really big ideas were accidental failures turned by marketing into a spectacular success.
Perhaps the best one of all is a thing called Night Nurse, where someone developed a very good cold and flu remedy with a slight problem: that it pretty much sent you to sleep. It caused insane drowsiness, so that you couldn't drive or operate heavy machinery.
It was a marketing genius there who said, "Yes, but if we sell it as a nighttime cold and flu remedy, the fact that it sends you to sleep is not actually a failing. It's not a product disadvantage. It's a positive benefit."
Plenty of cases like that, by the way.
