Is there any actual gold in the Ballon d'Or? Jean Pierre has been crafting the most prestigious football award for over a decade, but the way he crafts every single award will leave you stunned. Surprisingly, he is one of the few people who know the Ballon d'Or winner weeks before the ceremony and keeps it a secret.
He begins the process of making the award by selecting a stone base, which comes in various forms, making each award unique. But then, the ball is designed to sit perfectly on top of the stone. For the ball itself, Jean Pierre uses two solid brass discs that are welded together with a blowtorch. Not enough that every line on the ball is engraved by hand, after which the ball is coated with a layer of 24-karat pure gold.
