I've just got my new gardener SLX 22 ft. A lot of these things I'm going to show you will apply to any water fed pole that you get. Uh, they'll all be very similar. They all go together in a very similar way. So hopefully, it's a useful reference guide for you.
But all the bits and pieces, if you've never done it before, it can be a bit tricky working out what goes where and how to put it all together. So, I thought I'd just make a video to show you now in my system because this is how I like to use it. I'm also going to fit a UNIV valve into the system as well as part of it. Um, so I'll show you how to do that as well. Okay, how to fit a uni valve. So, we'll do the whole thing together.
Now, this is how it's come fresh out the box. Uh, I've got the brush head here, the gooseeneck, which uh attaches the brush to the pole, the different fittings um for the water, the hose, which will run up the center of the pole, and the only tool I'm really going to need is this pair of nippers here in order to uh pinch the clamps in place as well.
So, first of all, what we'll do is we'll fit the fittings, the uh hose fittings to the brush head. Now, Gardener do these great little uh twist fittings. Depending on whether you want pencil jets or fan jets, you can choose. I've opted to go for these fan jets this time. Just give these a go. And all they do is you just push them into place. Give them a twist like that. There's the next one. We'll push that into place. Give it a twist so it clicks. And then what I've gone for here is the close coupling setup. Okay. So instead of the hoses going straight in and sticking out like that, this close coupling setup allows me to have the hoses sitting much closer to the the brush head, which I really like. It keeps it all nice and neat and tidy. So, we'll put those in place there. And they can't go straight across. You just have to angle them slightly. So, they'll go over the top. And then this here will just fit in over the top there. But they'll be slightly too long. So, all we want to do is just cut them slightly off there. Off this side. Who knows where those have pinged off to. And then they will again just push in like that. Now that's sitting. See the way that sits a little bit high at the moment. We could actually cut off a bit more. So to release the hose, just pull back these little sleeves like this. The little sleeve on the fitting there and they'll just pop out. Again, it's better to start off longer and cut them shorter rather than cutting them. You don't want to cut them too short in the first place. So, there we go. I've got them fitted now, and they're sitting just nicely above the fitting like that. Okay. Make sure everything's pushed together nicely. So, that's great.
So, next, if we fit this to the gooseseneck, really simple. These gardener quick lock fittings, um, literally just have a little click fitting like that. Just clicks into place really nicely. And that means you can press it to release it and adjust the angle to sideways if you want. So that's pretty easy to do that. They're really good. And then the lever over the top allows you to adjust the angle. Now a little thing that gardener do here, it will come with a piece of hose like this with a push fitting. And you need to put that a lot up into the gooseseneck. And you can take this red safety tab off. That just pushes into the fitting at the top there. That'll just push in place. Now, what that does is when you feed your hose up the top. So, this fitting here will go up the inside of the pole. And then you just need to connect that at the top before you put it put the head into the pole. That allows you to be able to um take the gooseeneck off. Um, you can swap it for another head quite easily by just taking that out and pulling to release that there.
Now, if I'm then going to fit my uni valve, the uni valve will allow me to tug on the hose to switch the water on and off. Really fantastic. Waterfed pole window cleaners love these. I personally can't live without it. It's absolutely brilliant. But if I fit that, so that needs to be fitted to the hose inside the pole. But if I'm always pulling on that fitting, I mean, it might be okay, but I'll be a little bit concerned that there's going to be a lot of strain on that fitting all the time. It could come loose. I don't want to end up with that headache. So, what I'm going to do is actually cut out this fitting, fit the uni valve all in one go. So, I'll show you how to do that.
So, these fittings again, you can just push the sleeve back and it will release the hose. So, what I'm actually going to do is cut this and discard that. Let's remove the tape. Now, what I want to do is I want to fit the uni valve so that it's situated inside. It will be situated somewhere inside the first section of the pole. Don't forget it's going to go up into the gooseseneck and it will go straight into the head. So I need to allow some slack at the top and then I want it to be inside this first section. So, if we cut the hose about here and then just get one of the little clips and we want to make sure the water the uni valve has to be positioned with the the alternative color facing down. The black end piece needs to be facing down. The water is going to be in this direction. So, we need to make sure that's the case that it goes this way round. And that just pushes onto there. Then the little clip over the top. And then you need to give these a little pinch. You just need a pair of pliers like this. These are called nippers. And with these uni valves, you just need to be really, really careful because they're plastic. If you squeeze them too tight, they can snap and then and then they're useless. So, just be really careful. It just needs a little tiny pinch. Doesn't need to be tight. Just so that you're pinching the hose over the barb and that'll be fine. Okay. So, that's that. We need to do the same the other side. So, we put the clip on first and then we just push the hose onto there. When you push it on this side, make sure you don't push it on too far. Just leave a little gap there. And then clip can go over the top. Squeeze that on. Give it a little wiggle again. Just a little pinch this side. Little pinch on that side. Not too much. Just to pinch the ho. Just enough to pinch the hose. Okay, now that's good. You can see now that's going to work. I'm going to just tug the hose. Switches it on and off. Fantastic.
So, all we need to do now, close this down. Thread the hose up the base like that. The uni valve goes in there. Now, the hose comes out the top. Now, that threads up the into the goose neck there. And we can put that into the base of the pole. Like so. Now, we're not finished yet. There's one final step. When we tug on the hose, it's going to tug on the hose at the top, and we don't want it to tug on this fitting. So, the last step is the last clip. We just have to thread that on. Now, that's going to act as a stopper to allow us to tug the hose. So, I'm just going to allow a little bit of slack at the top of the hose there. And this time, I'm going to pinch it down all the way onto the hose, both sides. Make sure that pinches down nice and tight. And that's that. That will just sit at the top. And every time you tug the hose, that will just stop it from pulling out. Just push that into the fitting. And there we go. We're good to go. The fitting is already on the base of the hose here with a little protector. So, we're all set, ready to go. That's how you set up your waterfed pole. Ready to go. It's ready for work.
