[Music] Some friends, so finishing up the retrograde planet series. The outer planets are retrograde from four to six months out of the year. It's pretty common. It's extremely common to have retrograde outer planets, and in fact, if you don't have some, that would be uncommon. So people make a lot out of retrograde outer planets, and they're more minor influence. They simply imply a needing to go back and develop more strength in a certain area. A certain archetype needs to be worked with a little bit more. They're indicative of a characteristic that we need to learn a personal lesson about. We need to learn something on a psychic or psychological level before that retrograde planet works successfully for us until it externalizes. Retrograde planets are not bad. They are not unusual, and most people have them in their birth charts. The outer planets, they are nothing to fear when they are retrograde. They are nothing to make too much of. Outer planets opposite to the Sun also in the natal chart are always going to be retrograde.
Jupiter is retrograde about four months out of the year. When it is retrograde in the birth chart, we reconsider or redo our belief systems. It is a re-allocation. Often, there is a rearranging of one's personal paradigms, and this can be very disorienting. We internalize a retrograde planet. So Jupiter is something we reconsider. We reconsider religion, what meanings we attribute to everything. We reconsider and ponder who we follow, what morals we ascribe to and live by, what cultural values we adopt. We may even reconsider our entire culture. With a Jupiter retrograde, a crisis of faith is what we are led to when we question what Jupiter represents. Jupiter is our internal reference point for being in the world. It is our compass point, or the totem that they used in the movie Inception. Jupiter is the beliefs we filter our experiences through. Have you ever seen something a certain way because you saw the world through a particular system or lens, but then change that belief or filtering lens because you either matured or attained more experience, or maybe converted to a different belief system, or educated yourself out of that original belief system, and then you were able to see that something differently as a result of your beliefs changing? Has that happened to you, and you think, "I can't believe I ever saw that like that," or "I can't believe I ever believed that. How could I ever believe have believed that?" Objects, people, and experiences and things that you view through a particular belief system will seem a certain way until you alter that belief system, expand it, or sometimes lose it altogether.
Jupiter represents ideology, religion, education, the beliefs we amass and then live our lives by. Because we absorb them through our culture, what we are raised among will seem correct to us because it constitutes the principles that we see as morally correct. That's why Jupiter also rules travel, because we have the opportunity to expand our culturally derived version of the truth through traveling to another culture, adding to our understanding of of the truth. The more we reach that, the more we grow, stretch, question, travel, the more truth we're going to find. We become culturally radicalized when we do not seek experiences that are descriptive of the expansion side of Jupiter. And that's why Saturn-Jupiter aspects lead to closed-mindedness, and Jupiter-Uranus aspects lead to open-mindedness. Saturn urges Jupiter to stay the same, to stay the course, to find morality in tradition and the past. Uranus is about finding correct morality through progress. So we're led to question the truth rather to assume it is the truth. With a Jupiter that is retrograde, we're less in danger of self-radicalization, but it can still happen. We we need to turn inward and examine those beliefs that determine what we see as right or wrong, hopeful and hopeless. And this leads to that hopeful breakdown of that self-radicalization that can come from just feeding on one particular belief system. So our relationship with faith, real faith, is what is being developed. Faith in our internal compass rather than a compass tuned by an outside source, such as a religion or philosophy or culture. We may indeed be a religious person with the Jupiter retrograde, but we typically are going to re-examine that and sift through it, maybe adopt a different religion than what we were brought up or with, or see that original belief system or religion that we're currently and differently after we tune inward to examine more what that belief is, where is that coming from, and strengthen that.
The realm of Jupiter-Saturn retrograde implies a re-examination of our relationship with authority. We turn back, we turn inward to ask questions about the limitations that determine that box of safety we keep ourselves within. Self-discipline is something that we are going to need to improve when we have a Saturn retrograde. There is sort of a makeup lesson for what was weak in learning in previous incarnations or spiritual places that we may have lingered in. If you don't believe in reincarnation, avoidance of responsibility is the weak point, sort of the avoidance of Saturn by tuning into the inner or going through that process of discovering one's ability to police oneself, one's ability to become one's own authority. We develop strength, strength to shoulder our responsibilities. We discover a deeper understanding and appreciation for how limitation can produce tangible results. It can put us to work. But a re-orientation of our relationship with authority produces that refining of our ability to follow our own and respond to our own authority. So we externalize those Saturn lessons with a retrograde Saturn, and this is going to result in a stronger chance of success, because that's ultimately the meaning of Saturn. About 30% of people are going to have a Saturn retrograde. It's retrograde for about four and a half months out of each year.
Uranus retrograde is asking for an internal examination of our relationship with reward and with what is normal, what is the uniform, what is predictable. We tend to see ourselves as fitting in with a Uranus in retrograde, but we may in actuality be a square peg in a round hole. Understanding and appreciating oddity can contribute to more rewards for personal expression. There's an internal reformation once we understand or originality, and then Uranus works in a more extroverted manner. So we want to what we want to externalize our internal rebel. When it's retrograde, about 40% of people have Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto retrograde in their birth charts. They are all three outer planets retrograde a good amount of the year.
Neptune retrograde is about establishing internal boundaries. We are more sensitized to outside influences and find more beauty in our internal landscapes. With Neptune in retrograde or stationary, we tend to learn to externalize some of our fantasies after we live some life, after we get some experience behind us, after life kicks the crap out of us to some degree. When we have a Neptune retrograde, we externalize our fantasies, compassions, yearnings, and we are really charged with clarifying our fantasies, sifting through them to seek out sources of healing and transcendence that are not based on dependency, that aren't asking us to follow or depend on them. And we tend to linger in escapism techniques more with Neptune retrograde or stationary. Retrograde or stationary direct addictions tend to be more prevalent as well. We have Neptune in a position of prominence in regards to emotion. Mobilizing some of our fantasies about saving and rescuing is what we need to perfect if we are going to turn Neptune outward rather than linger in fantasies of perfection. We need to manifest those dreams of perfection in the outside world.
Pluto is retrograde a good long time throughout the year, and when it is retrograde, it's very much about investigating one's own darkness, rooting out those evil forces in ourselves, wanting to prosecute our own inner demons. We seek to gain power over our own selves, our own inner processors, our own psyche, to master the art of self-control. Pluto retrograde is more personally psychological than direct Pluto. Direct Pluto is more about exerting control in the outside world, and retrograde retrograde Pluto's more in control in that internal world. We want to kill off and reform what we see what we seek out to destroy when it's retrograde in ourselves more than we want to destroy things or change things in others. And learning how to externalize Pluto, not to keep it internalized, is really the lesson. So we learn to do personalized from attachment, from obsession, from desire, from things that are really the root of pain and suffering. And late series.
