Peace and blessings. I'm Dr. Bobby Price, AKA Dr. Holistic, and I show you how to heal naturally and holistically. Now, today's session, I'm going to teach you about one of the most powerful herbs there is that I use as a herbalist called burdock root. It is actually one of the secret ingredients in my full body detox that many of you have tried. Now, burdock root, the scientific name is *Arctium lappa*. Okay, it is a blood purifier, but it has so many other benefits that we'll get into today.

Right now, burdock usually grows in what are called undisturbed areas. Okay, so you'll commonly see it if you go like on a hike; um, you'll see it along the roadsides; you'll see it near a river. So it commonly grows in areas that are undisturbed. All right, that's really important because a lot of the herbs that you're walking past every day that you don't know about are, unfortunately, in metropolitan cities, and unfortunately, the ground is, is not that healthy in terms of like a lot of the toxicity that is in the soils in metropolitan cities. So that's really important because once I describe to you what it looks like and how to identify it, you may notice that you've been walking past it every day. All right, so just be careful; you don't want to use this herb if you randomly find it inside of the city.

Okay, the other thing about burdock that is really cool is that it's what's called a biennial. And what is a biennial? That, that means that the plant has a two-year life cycle. Okay, in the first year of the cycle, the plant grows very close to the ground. So imagine this is the ground, all right, these are the leaves and stems. All right, so it grows that close. Now, when you—the way to identify the plant is that the leaves are almost heart-shaped. So imagine me coming from a point, and then the leaves sort of fold up like a heart towards the stem. That stem then runs into the ground. All right. Now, these—this is a green leaf; however, when you look at the stem, the stem goes from green to almost this pink purplish color going into the ground. All right, you'll see about five or six or maybe even seven leaves in a circle, and the leaves can be really big; they can be this big; they can be small depending on what stage of growth the plant is in. All right. The other way to identify the plant is that that purplish pink sort of stripe going, going down the stem into the ground. When you look at the leaf, you'll see all these veins in the leaf; you'll also see some of the pink purplish color in that area as well, too. And when you look on the sort of edge of the leaf, it'll almost be in a wavy pattern. All right. Another way to identify it is when you look on the bottom of the leaf—so when you turn the leaf over—it has this almost white, velvety texture to it when you see it. All right, so, so those are ways that you can actually identify the plant itself. All right, so now that you've identified—and again, one of the most key ways to identify is because there are plants that look like it—when you look on the bottom of the leaf and you see sort of that white velvet coat on the bottom, that's a really good identifier.

Okay, the other thing that I think is really important to know about the plant is that in the second cycle—over the plant, as I said, it's a biennial—so in the first year it grows very close to the ground; in the second year of the plant, the plant can get pretty tall. I've seen it as tall as five feet, and okay, but it can get up to six feet. All right, and when the plant grows to six feet, you'll see these sort of pink purplish flowers that sort of like the color you see on the stem when it's in the first year of the cycle. You'll see these beautiful pink purplish flowers; sometimes they can be white depending on, of course, the constitution and the minerals and the soil. But this pink purplish flower—that's really beautiful—but what happens is as the plant ages into that second year of the cycle, those pink purplish flowers will start to turn brown; they'll get hard; and then those what used to be a flower are now these what are called burdock burs; they're like these little stickers that when you walk by, they stick on your shirt. All right, or if an animal walks, walks by, it sticks onto them.

Now let me explain the beauty of nature. All right, plants are just like humans; they want to reproduce and multiply. All right, those burdock burs that stick to your clothing or stick to an animal's sort of, um, you know, fur, or the wind blows, and then these burrs blow out all over the place—that's the plant's way of multiplying, reproducing. All right, so if the animal goes two miles away, now there's burdock burrs two miles away as a result of that. Now, when the plant gets into the second-year cycle, the burdock root at that point is not very useful. All right, you want to get it in the first year of the cycle when the plant is close to the ground because once it's in that second year of the cycle, all of the energy, all of the nutrients will be shifted from the root—okay, 'cause remember we're talking about burdock root—to the stems, to the leaves, to the flowers. Okay, so all that energy and nutrients and medicinal qualities are in the, are now taken from the root; now they're in the plant, the top side of the plant. All right, so let me show you exactly what it looks like here. So this is what burdock root looks like, and the reason why I'm showing you this is because you probably can tell that there's a little bit of a pinkish tint to the root as well, too. So that's how you also know or can identify that this is burdock root as well, too.

Again, I first discovered this when I was living out in Japan, traveling in Asia. I was noticing that everywhere I went, if I wanted to get some tea, uh, this was always an option, and I noticed that a lot of the people were choosing the burdock root tea, and so that's what made me start to do a lot of my research on it and discovering that it is a blood purifier, again, which we'll talk about in just a second. But what I love about burdock root is not only is it very nutritional, it is very medicinal. Okay, and those are my favorite herbs—herbs that not only nourish you but herbs that are also are very medicinal—and this herb is actually very detoxifying as well, too. So you got three components there: you got detoxification; you got it's nutritional; and it is also medicinal. Again, we'll get into all of these things in just a second. Okay, and the other thing that I'll tell you that is really important about burdock is again, you just want to make sure you get a good source. All right, and so, um, you know, a lot of people get their herbs; they go on whatever website and grab some herbs—just make sure you get a good source of these herbs. Again, this is one of the sort of powerful and secret ingredients inside of my full body detox, okay, because of its blood purifying, um, qualities, and I'll explain how that works in just a second. All right, so that's burdock. The other thing that I'll say is important is this could be used as a tea, and if you have burdock root at home or you grow it, you could take burdock root and add it with a little bit of dandelion root, and that's a tea that I've seen them commonly use in Asia and also in Europe as well, too. All right, so let's get into what are the benefits and how these benefits actually work or they come from the root. All right, because it's one thing to say this is the benefit, but it's a whole another thing to explain why that is a benefit or how the plant does it.

Number one, they are loaded with antioxidants. Now, we all, all know that antioxidants prevent oxidation. Oxidation is aging. Okay, and the reason why it does that is because it's loaded with curcumin, which is heart-healthy and really good for the immune system. One of the things that during the pandemic, many people were telling people, you need to get more curcumin in your diet. Well, guess what? Burdock is a perfect way to do that. All right, so it's loaded with curcumin, loaded with luteolin, and also loaded with what are called phenolic acids. Okay, these are antioxidants. All right, these are powerful plant compounds. All right, so it's loaded with antioxidants, and antioxidants again are really good for preventing what is called oxidation, which is essentially rusting or aging out ourselves. Okay, so this is what makes us younger as well, too. We can get a load of antioxidants. All right, number two, it promotes circulation of blood to the skin surface. It promotes circulation of blood to the skin surface. The reason why this is so important is because people who suffer with conditions like eczema, psoriasis—the list goes on and on—who have rashes, skin elements—a lot of times what that's telling you—when, when I see somebody with psoriasis—what it's telling you is that you have a grumpy liver; like your liver is sluggish. Now I have a whole another video; if you want to go check out Dr. Bobby Price, put in sluggish liver, you'll see I talk about that. You cannot have a sluggish liver if you want to be healthy. Okay, your skin is just literally a mirror as to what is going on inside of you, and when somebody has a skin condition that is showing up like eczema or psoriasis, what it's saying is that the liver is unable to do its job, which is detoxification, and also—and because it's not able to do its job and it can't send out the toxins in another way—it sends it out through the skin. And because it's sending it out to the skin and the liver is sluggish, this is why you're getting that skin effect. Okay, again, the skin is just merely an elimination pathway. All right, and with psoriasis and eczema and any other skin conditions, they're telling you is that A, you have a lot of toxins; B, your liver isn't functioning the way it should be. So one of the benefits of burdock is the fact that it promotes the circulation of blood to the skin to start to push these toxins out, all right, to make your skin look not only clear but, once you get the toxins out, start to have that glow as well, too. All right, so that's number two. Number three, it acts as a diuretic because of its effect on the kidneys. Okay, now you probably heard, heard of a diuretic, uh, because you probably heard of somebody who either has edema, like swelling in their lower legs or other parts of the body, or somebody who has high blood pressure on a diuretic or taking a diuretic, and what this does is it gets rid of fluid—excess fluid—out of the body. Okay, so just think of it like this: with high blood pressure, when your pressure is high, just think of a balloon that you put a little bit of water in, so the pressure is fine, but then if you put too much water in the balloon, the balloon begins to expand to a level where it could burst, right? All right, so one of the reasons why they give patients diuretics is because of that, because of excess fluid; you start to retain fluid. But the thing that they don't think about is why are you retaining fluid? Okay, it's one thing to get the excess fluid out, but if you can't figure out why you're retaining fluid, then you're just, you're just taking a cup in an overflow tub or overflow boat with water and pouring water out, okay, but you're not plugging up the hole, or you're not turning off the faucet. So you got to figure out what the—well, the reason is is because you're loaded with toxins. Okay, it could be uric acid if it's in the form of acidity or toxicity from the kidney; that's why we call it urine. Okay, but in any case, burdock has a diuretic effect, okay, to get rid of this excess fluid that is literally being retained because what happens is as your toxicity level goes up, the only way you dilute toxicity—if it can't come out of the body—we'll talk about why you can't come out of the body—the only way you can dilute toxicity if you can't get it out is to add more water. It's just like, all right, if you made a sugary beverage like lemonade, all right, if you taste it and it had too much sugar in it, what would you do? You would add more water. All right, and then it wouldn't be as sugary anymore. Well, that's exactly what your body is doing, and that causes hypertension, and it causes edema and swelling as well, too. And again, this is a big effect of burdock; it acts on the kidneys to have this diuretic effect to get rid of excess fluid. All right, number four, burdock root is what is referred to, um, typically by herbalists as a cholagogue. Okay, what is a cholagogue? A cholagogue stimulates the gallbladder to contract and release bile. Okay, and that bile is being released into the small intestines. All right, now let me tell you why that's so important is because when you get to a point where your bowel isn't being moved and it's being sluggish, okay, and the purpose—listen, let's first start with this: your liver is making the bile; that bile is then being transported to the gallbladder, which is literally right there at the liver; it goes to the gallbladder to be concentrated. When I mean by concentrated, to become more powerful. Okay, if your bile isn't moving, okay, you got to understand that this is what's causing so many people to have gallbladder issues; this is what's causing so many people to have gallstones; this is what's causing a lot of people to have liver issues, to have stones in their liver, okay, to have a fatty liver; this is what's really causing it because think about—if you think about—and I, I have a video where I talk about this—what bile is. Bile is there to emulsify or break down fats, but the unfortunate thing is that it, it could also, when backed up and not flowing properly, can cause the liver to be fatty as well, too. So one of the important effects of burdock root is the fact that it stimulates the gallbladder to contract and release this bile. And I'll tell you, once your liver starts to get inflamed and starts to get fatty and stops functioning, now you can't get rid of toxins; this is why it's so important in the role of detoxification in the body. Okay, so that cholagogue effect, in combination with the diuretic effect of the kidneys, is a very powerful effect, effect. All right, so hugely important. And the other thing that I'll mention is that when that bile—well, when the gallbladder contracts and then releases that bile into the small intestine—what's also important about this is not only is it there to break down, you know, the fats that you eat in your diet, to pull out vitamins A, D, E, and K—so again, if you don't have bile flowing, you will be deficient in vitamins A, D, E, and K, which is important—but also what's important about bile when it goes into the small intestine is that it acts like a natural laxative as well, too. Okay, because that's the whole purpose, because that bile is also taking out some of the toxins in the liver as well, too. So it's detoxifying the liver, and then when it shoots that bile into the small intestines, now you just pull it out; that's how you get rid of the toxins, but the bile itself is a natural laxative; it makes you poop. So if you're one of those people who are having problems with having a regular bowel movement, it could be because your bile is stagnant. All right, so that's number four, the cholagogue effect. Um, number five, jaundice. Okay, you've seen people who have jaundice; their eyes are really red—I mean, really yellow—okay, and I'm not just talking about a slight tint; I mean, it could be yellow to the point where, I mean, they look like Michael Jackson in the video *Thriller*, okay, and the skin can become sort of a yellow-orange distinct as well, too. One of the—again, one of the things or benefits of burdock root is that it could flush that bile out, just like I talked about, and this is what can remove the condition of jaundice. Okay, so that's a huge effect, too. So this is why burdock root plays a heavy and important role on not only detoxifying the liver but almost acting like a jump-starter to the liver to reboot it as well, too—hugely important. All right, your liver isn't functioning well; if your gallbladder isn't functioning well, you will not digest food properly—hugely important. All right, and number six—number six benefit—is that it can help with arthritis. So if you're one of those people suffering out there with arthritis and popping pills to get rid of the pain, let me explain why burdock root can be very helpful for you. It's because it increases, again, the function of the liver and the kidneys, and this gets rid of toxins. Well, guess why you're having your arthritis? Okay, the word arthritis—arthro in Greek means joint, and then itis means inflammation—so that's all it is is just inflammation in the joints. All right, why are you having inflammation in the joints? You're having inflammation in the joints because you're loaded with toxins. All right, it depends on where the toxins go; that's where you have the effect. Most people have toxins that are everywhere, okay, and so if it's in your joints, we call it arthritis. All right, and when they start to concentrate in the joints, that's what makes it get worse and worse and worse. So your real issue is that your, your detoxification organs—in this case, liver and kidney—aren't, aren't functioning well. Okay, and so the toxins then end up in the joints, and this is what creates the inflammation. It makes sense: toxins lead to inflammation and irritation. All right, so that's another one of the huge benefits of burdock root as well, too.

Another big benefit that a lot of people don't even mention that I see is that it is beneficial for cancer as well, too. Let me explain why. Again, you got to know what cancer is; you got to always start with what is cancer. Well, cancer—we know—in 1954, the Pulitzer Prize winner Otto Warburg, he discovered that cancer has to have a few conditions, okay, because cancer isn't a normal thing in the body. It may be common in the population now because it's the second leading cause of death for Americans, but it is not a normal thing, all right, for our bodies to have cancer in it. All right, so let's see what happens, what changes, and what isn't normal now that cancer can prosper in our body. Well, one, one thing that Otto Warburg discovered was the fact that when you get cancer, your body becomes acidic, so cancer thrives in an acidic environment. Okay, number two—the number two thing—is that cancer likes deoxygenated environments—environments that don't have oxygen. Cancer actually does not like oxygen. Okay, and then the more oxygen you get to an area, the smaller the tumor becomes, okay, which makes sense because our tissues, our healthy tissues need oxygen; our brains go three or four minutes without oxygen; tissues start to die; that's three or four minutes. All right, so cancer is totally on the opposite end of the spectrum. And the other thing is that cancer requires fermentation, meaning our cells function on what is called cellular respiration, meaning they require oxygen, but what happens when you get cancer? That cancerous cell switches its metabolism to fermentation. All right, now going back to burdock—why, why is burdock important? It removes toxins. Okay, toxins are acidic to the body. All right, so the more toxins you remove, the more you're alkalizing the body. All right, so it makes the body more alkaline, which means that cancer isn't going to be able to thrive in an alkaline environment because it thrives in an acid environment. Number two, burdock root increases oxygenation of the tissues in the body, and guess what? Cancer does not like oxygen. Okay, so that's why burdock root is actually really good for that as well, too. So we'll take a sip to that. And number eight—number eight, which I mentioned—is the blood purifying quality of burdock root—cleansing and purifying the blood. Okay, it's a blood nourisher as well, too, because as I told you before, it's not only medicinal to the body, it's very nutritional to the body. So it's a blood purifier and a blood nourisher. This is really important; check out my previous video where I talk about blood clots and how many people are having blood clots that end up causing strokes, which is one of the leading causes of death in America, okay, and end up causing heart attacks, ends up causing pulmonary embolisms, ends up causing DVTs. Okay, so that blood purifying effect helps with that, and here's why: because burdock is loaded with these potent compounds like inulin, polyphenols, as I mentioned before, antioxidants, and because it's loaded with those things, what it does is it facilitates the elimination of toxins. So it facilitates the removal of toxins from the body; it facilitates the drainage of the lymphatic system, which is the waste system of the body. So not only are we getting rid of toxins, we're getting rid of waste out of the body as well, too. It enhances the liver function, and it enhances the kidney function—two of your detoxification organs. All right, and this is what facilitates that blood purifying effect. All right, which is hugely important; if your blood is clean, it's, it's very difficult for, for any disease to prosper in your body. All right, so that's why it's really important. A few bonus benefits is burdock root has, um, consistently been used for cough and cold. So if you noticed over the last couple of months, a lot of people have been getting these coughs that are persistent and don't go anywhere, so you can use burdock root for that as well, too. It's also been used for hair growth and also people who suffer with issues like dandruff as well, too. All right, so hugely important for that as well, too.

So hopefully this helps you understand why burdock root is a staple. Okay, it helps you understand why this is one of the most important herbs in my full body detox. And with that being said, I want to invite you to participate in my next 30-day group detox that happens in May; starts on May 1st; deadline to join, April 17th. So for 30 days, we're going to be detoxing together. All right, for 30 days, you'll be basically drinking my detox—the Tommy detox—to clean out the digestive system; the parasitecida cleanse to get rid of parasites and yeast—this one's the one that has burdock root in it and a lot of other powerful herbs—so you'll get a 30-day supply of that; you'll get a meal plan; you'll get recipes; and you get access to an online support group which I come in and coach you throughout the process for 30 days. So the link will be in the bio to join the 30-day group detox. Again, the deadline is approaching, so definitely want to see you guys in there. And all my people who have done my detox are doing my 30-day group detox; I want you to comment below; tell me all of the benefits—no, don't tell me; tell the people all of the benefits—because there's a lot of people out there who are suffering with some form of cancer, some form of blood clot, arthritis, um, liver and gallbladder issues, kidney issues, uh, immune system issues, high blood pressure issues, digestive issues—the list goes on and on. So I want you to tell them—we had over a thousand people in the last group detox—and when I tell you it was absolutely amazing to see what we accomplished in 30 days in terms of like people reclaiming their health. So I want you to be part of that, too. So if you have already did my either my detox or my 30-day group detox, comment below so we can inspire the people to help them understand that health and healing could be holistic and natural, and you get way more benefits than taking the other option. Okay, so comment below; let the people know; make sure you hit that share button so people can learn more about this powerful herb; make sure you hit the Subscribe button because I noticed that a lot of people who are watching the channel aren't subscribed to the channel. And in the next video, I'll talk a little bit about maybe some other herbs as well, too, that are in my detox. All right, so until the next time, peace and blessings, and God speed.
