The primary principles of personal transformation.

Number one: Your past was perfect for your growth. Yeah, there's no accident. Nothing is wrong. I'm encouraging you to see every single thing that happened to you was perfect to get you to this room and for where you're meant to go.

Number two: APR, what I call Absolute Personal Responsibility. APR is your gateway into mastery. So you can blame, or you can transform. You don't get to do both. So, absolute personal responsibility. You created the situation you're in. All, all of the good things you created, and the things that are not working—I don't believe in the word "bad"—but the things that are not working in your life, you created those as well. And when you come from this frame of absolute personal responsibility, the things that you created, you get to change them. So, what is it? The acronym APR. What does it stand for?

Number three: Excellent. Number three: Discomfort is a green light versus a red flag. So, what I've realized is your growth and your transformation is not built around your ease and your comfort. Transformation, whether it's creative, productive, prosperity, business, spiritual, it's built around your discomfort. So, discomfort is part of the process. The caterpillar must die before the butterfly is born. Charles, the old you, you're not that old. So, the young, but you know, the previous you must, you must let go of it for your next level of you to be embraced.

Number three: The death of the caterpillar becomes the butterfly. I love the word "reborn." To be reborn, the current you must, you must let go. Let go.

Number five: In terms of the primary principles of personal transformation, transformation is a messy sport. Sometimes you'll feel amazing. Sometimes it'll be difficult. Sometimes you'll feel confused. Sometimes, how many people in the room feel exhausted? Show hands. Look at that. Exhausted. I mean, how many people do a lot of nighttime processing, for example? You have a lot of very vivid dreams. You know what I'm talking about? How many people are noticing that more right now? Exactly. There's great change occurring on the planet. So, when you're processing through all, I believe this is sort of a heartset philosophy. I believe you never get any more than you can handle. I believe that when old feelings that have been repressed within your subconscious, whether it's anger, sadness, resentment—everyone with me so far?—when, when those feelings that you've stuffed down into the great subconscious are ready for you to process them, they start to come up. And when they come up and you process them by feeling through them, journaling, praying, acknowledging them, it's a very, it's a very energy-consuming process. So you're going to feel tired. You might not be as productive. But there's a term that I play with that helps me, which is spiritual productivity. Is that helpful? See, it's not okay. You might not be as productive, but you're spiritually productive. So, just remember, transformation is not linear. How many times do you think you've worked through a limiting belief or a limiting feeling or some kind of limiting pattern, and then it comes back again a few months later, and it frustrates you? You thought you moved through it, right? You know what I've realized? Growth is a, is not linear. Growth is not linear. And I believe also, something will come up. It could, it could be the same core issue coming up over and over. How many people have thought you moved through something, and it's the same core thing? It could be a money wound. It could be an un-deservedness. Could be personal insecurity. Well, you know what I've realized? You have made great progress. It's the next level of the wound that is ready to be moved through. Is that helpful? So, what I'm trying to suggest is transformation is messy. Sometimes you feel strong. Sometimes you feel weak. Sometimes you feel confused. And it's the number one game you can play. I believe the very fact that you're in here means you're not playing the game most entrepreneurs or most business people or most human beings are playing. You're playing an alternate game, which is very, very powerful.

The sixth primary principle is: When you feel when you most feel like stopping, is when you must keep continuing. I call it phase three growth. Phase, phase three growth. There's three, let's call it three phases of change. Can you see this, everyone? First phase is the beginning. Second phase is the middle. Phase three is the end. Phase three growth. You know what? You know when you build the muscles? You build a muscle at exhaustion. I love SoulCycle. I push hardest when it's the last 10 or 15 minutes. I think you can learn a lot from a spin class. You know, if you're not going hard, but you think the instructor thinks you're going hard, you're just fooling yourself. It's a big lesson. And I also believe that towards the end, when you're starting to feel tired and you could coast and no one would notice, that's when you build capability. So, phase three growth. When you're closest to muscle exhaustion and you push past your usual, your normal, you actually, if you were to look at the muscle under a microscope, if you were to look at the muscle under a microscope, you would see the muscle is tearing. The muscle is tearing. But when the muscle tears through exercise and being pushed past the limit, and then you recover the muscle, you, you actually build growth. Did everyone understand that? I call it the bicep metaphor. The bicep metaphor. So, it's, let's say the muscle is, you're in a spin class, and you're at phase three, which is nearing the end of the class, and you're sweating, and your body is exhausted. When you push past your fatigue, you actually tear. It's called micro-tearing of the muscle. And here's an important point: then you rest and recover, because recovery is essential to growth. That's why you don't want to work 24/7. That's why you do want to take days off. That's why you do want to see creativity as a series of seasons. So you take the physical muscle, you stretch it past your normal, you tear the muscle, you recover in rest. Guess what you've done? You've built one word starts with G. You've built growth. Why is this important? I believe because your mindset is a muscle, like a muscle. Your heart set is like, like a muscle. Your health set is like a muscle. Your soul set is like a muscle. As you push past your current normal, you tear the muscle, so to speak. You recover it. You build growth. So the more you psychologically, in terms of if your mindset, start thinking new thoughts and pushing your intellectual capability, and then you recover, you'll build a stronger mindset. Your heart set, as you start to do the heart set work I'm going to speak about, your heart set will grow. Grow. As your health set, as your health set, you push your muscles past the usual, you recover, you're going to grow your capability. And finally, your soul set. It's like a muscle. As you become, as you move to the jagged edges of your spirituality, and then recover, you're going to build growth. Everyone clear on that? The bicep metaphor? By show of hands. Show of hands. Great. And is everyone clear on phase three growth? Excellent. The only exclusion or sort of outlier to when you most feel like stopping is when you most must keep continuing is when you're really tired. Now, here's the nuance. I believe it's really important when you feel like giving up, that you continue. Makes sense, right? I feel like when you're working on a deep creative project, you feel like throwing in the towel. I think some of your best work is on the other side. Everyone with me? And yet, there are some times to honor your fatigue. It's a little nuance that's super important, okay? So sometimes your body tells you to rest. Sometimes you're in a season of life where you're not meant to be bringing your magic to the world.

And then finally, the quality of your life displays the caliber of your power. I believe there's two types of power. There's fake power, and there's real power. Fake power is the kind of power that, you know, you know the world's values right now. Fake power is having a lot of money, having a lot of position, having a big title, having a lot of nice things. I believe that's fake power. It's very vulnerable because when you lose that power, when you lose those things, you lose the power. I think there's a much deeper power, which is the power of your mindset, heart set, health set, and soul set. Your four interior empires. Once you really calibrate your mindset, purify your heart set, fortify your health set, escalate your soul set, you become a powerful human being that is not dependent on anything in the world. I want you to, yeah, you can applaud for that if it'll make you happy. Now, this is, this is I think really profound, if I could say so. You want to get to a place, or I encourage you to get to a place, and I'm going to give you definitely the models and the tactics. I want you to be so powerful that literally you are detached. The great philosophers talk about detachment in many ways. That's the great goal of leadership and life and personal mastery. Detachment. So literally, you lose your business. Go so. You lose your health. So what? Your office burns down. So what? Someone dies. Someone in your family dies. You don't say, "So what?" But you're so, you've built such intimacy and fluency with the primal hero that rests at your core right now, that is covered up by layers that no matter what happens on the outside—is everyone with me?—or am I? So that no matter what happens on the outside, if, if there's loss, you're so intimate with who you truly are, your fundamental nature, true joy, deep peace, and freedom.

Here's another acronym. What we're really looking for in life is JPF. Very important. JPF. What's JPF? I don't think anyone who came in this room looking for a jet really wants the jet. There are many of you who want to take your billion, get to another billion, or make more money, or have more applause, or be more dominant in your, in your field. I don't think really that's what you want. I'm going to strip it right away. And here's what I'm going to suggest. I'm going to suggest that what every single person in this room really wants, and what every human being really wants, is JPF. What is JPF? Well, it's an acronym for Joy is what we want. Peace. How many people want want peace? Peace. Not only joy, but peace. Peace. You're just peace and freedom. Is that cool? JPF. That's why. So, what we do is we think we want the things, but we don't really want the things. We're really wanting joy, joy, peace, and freedom. And so, what I'm suggesting is, why not build your four interior empires? Your mindset, heart set, health set, and soul set. Reconnect with the fundamental, not fake, the real power that lives inside you, that you were intimate with, and that you, through the trials of life, and through the messaging of the world, and through your experiences, we contracted, and we forgot who we truly are. Show of hands, is everyone with me so far? Great. And so, when you really connect with your mindset, heart set, health set, and soul set, those four interior empires, you actually access true power. True power. True, true power. And some people, like I believe Nelson Mandela, and some of the great yogis, and some of the great mystics, and some of the great humanitarians that we admire, those people had reached such a level of true power and such maturity. It's, it's a human maturity that all the shiny toys that we all chase didn't mean anything to them. I want you to think about that, please.

To get to a level of, call it maturity, call it consciousness, call it awareness, call it intimacy with our fundamental nature, I believe there's two choices. We're going very deep here. There's egoism and heroism. I've never shared that before. You have a fundamental choice every day when you walk out in the world. The work you're doing at Personal Mastery Academy, the method, philosophy, methodology, and tacology that I'm sharing with you, is really strip it down. It's about leaving egoism and building a relationship with your heroism. The most important relationship you will ever build. It's not your relationship with money. It's not your relationship with your customers. Not the relationship with your friends. Not the relationship with your family. The most important relationship where all the work, I believe, is to be done is the relationship with your primal hero. The not your egoic part, which is your weak part. Not your ego, but with your inner heroism. Egoism. Make the leap here today to heroism. And that is the difference between fake power. Look, I'm cool, and I'm strong, and I'm powerful because I have money, or I have fame, or I have a Louis Vuitton handbag, or I have famous shoes, or I drive a Ferrari, or a McLaren, or Maserati, or you're wearing a Patek Philippe. Those are all wonderful if they're right for you. The pleasure and beautiful things are awesome. Show of hands. But is that your servant, or are those things your God? And if you are deriving your power in the world from your net, your net worth, and your things, and your house, and the beauty of your spouse, and, and your position, then you're, you're in a very insecure place. You're, you're insecure because you're coming from the ego. And so should you lose the power, or should you lose your family, or should you, you lose your position, you've lost the very foundation you've built who you are on. I suggest to you, there's a much more powerful way to live. It's to be in the world, but not of the world. It's to play the game of society. How many people like a beautiful car? Show of hands. Awesome. How many people would rather fly first class or private than economy on the way to Singapore from New York? How many people would like to eat rather eat at Bukhara, or 11 Madison, or El Celler de Can Roca, which I think is three this year, or what's the new one? Osteria Francescana. How many people would rather eat there than a Denny's? You know. And so, all I'm saying is, play the game of the world and enjoy the beautiful things. And, you know, if, if it's right for for you, and have beautiful clothes, and have a nice home, eat great food, buy organic if you can have it. But the game really is, and this is one of the most powerful things I'll suggest to you with great love and respect, enjoy those things, but have no need for those things. And then if you do that, you are a warrior. Because then you lose it all, but you're so intimate with your mindset, heart set, health set, and soul set, you're so connected with your true power, that everything on the outside was just an illusion, and you still have your JPF. What's your JPF? Would that be a phenomenal way to live? So that's what I believe the great sages, when they say, you know, detach, you know, work on detachment. You don't want to be attached to things. You want to enjoy those things, but you don't want to be attached to them. You don't want them to be to define you. You want to develop that relationship with your true self, your most heroic self. I believe everyone at their core has bliss, love, genius, heroism, energy, radiant health, and wisdom. I believe that is the human nature.
