Coming to you from West Yellowstone, Montana, with uh Sister Palmer here at my side. Do you want to just say hello?
Hello. Okay. I, I uh, was going to try to do this before we left, but just didn't have time. But this uh, the the uh, the newsroom, the church newsroom uh, put out this thing on polygamy. And I know most of you are totally on top of it. Um, it's basically a double down on the essays they've already had on there. And I'm, I'm sure Brian Hails is just so thrilled. But um, let me go over a couple things that I think are interesting with this.
So, I'll quote from the newsroom here uh, that just recently was put up this week. I cooked, first off, I, sorry, I cooked this lasagna. It's one of those Costco lasagnas, so I didn't really cook. But you baked it. I baked it. Well, you, okay. No, you bake it. You bake it. I used this this portable Triger. It's so awesome. I've used it quite a few times now and it, it turned out so good. And then Sue made this cucumber tomato salad. Uh, I did some uh, garlic bread on the Triger. I'm telling you, man, let's sell everything and just live in this and eat. I wouldn't, I wouldn't fit in it if I just sat at. Well, anyway.
Okay. So I'm going to quote from this. Uh, "Today, the practice of polygamy is strictly prohibited in the church." Now, isn't that interesting how that has to start that way? As it has been for over a century. "Polygamy, or correctly polygyny, the marriage of more than one woman to the same man, um, was a part of the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for half a century. The practice began during the lifetime of Joseph Smith but became publicly and widely known during the time of Brigham Young."
Now, now that statement, I have no problem with. It did start during the time of Joseph Smith because a lot of these guys were doing it behind his back. Every public thing that Joseph said was against polygamy, and he knew that there was, there was stuff going on. Anyway, back to quoting. "In addition to the information on this page, uh, see comprehensive essays on lds.com." Or I have to add something. He knew that it was going on at the end, and he wanted to get rid of the people who were doing it. Well, look what happened.
Okay, I'm not apostate. I believe in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ. But this polygamy thing is, and if people, Oh, no. Go ahead. People are not, if people think that we're wrong, they haven't done any studying. Okay. Uh, totally agree at all. At all. Um, but here, here's an interesting thing on this. Uh, here's a question that needs to be, Go. Go ahead. Because of all the papers that have been released, the Joseph Smith papers, and not even half of them have been released yet, but the things that have been released, not only Joseph Smith papers, but other people's journals, um, it's pretty convincing. It's pretty convincing by what has been found. And if anybody's interested, interested, um, to know who to watch, which I'm sure that you all know. I'm sure you all know. But, um, guess what? Do you want to have a seat? Our testimonies are stronger. Look at my hair. Our testimonies are stronger. Some people who believe in the principle of polygamy that Joseph Smith started it, fall away from the church, have fallen away from the church. We've just heard of another person. Yeah, we hear it all the time. It's, they can't imagine that the prophet of the last dispensation and the restoration would be someone who would be marrying 14-year-old girls and having sex with them. Okay.
Now, um, feel free to come in anytime, Suz, but okay. "In addition to the information on this page, see comprehensive essays on lds.org." And then there's one on, and these have been up for a while. So, this is kind of just a, a rehash of the same old thing, but okay. So, one is "Plural Marriage and Kirtland and Nauvoo." "Plural Marriage and Families in Early Utah," and "The Manifesto and the End of Plural Marriage."
Now, now, okay. So, so far, you know, now here's, here's where it goes off the rails in my opinion. Hears, say, old journals, just stuff. But so, here we go. Here's, here's what this this new new uh, church, um, statement, statement on the uh, church news website said. "In 1831, church founder Joseph Smith made a prayerful inquiry about the ancient Old Testament practice of plural marriage. This resulted in the divine instruction to reinstitute the practice as a religious principle." What a bunch of garbage.
Here's a question for you. If, if I don't believe Joseph Smith preached and practiced polygamy, can I still have a temple recommend? What? What? Say ye, Sister P. Absolutely. Yeah, you can have a temple recommend. So, so why, why, you know what? If you want to believe that, you know what? Knock yourself out. But if you don't believe it, you shouldn't be persecuted in my opinion. It's, it's, it's hearsay. It's history. There's so many scriptures. We've pointed this out on this channel so many times. And Connor Boyak did a great one. Uh, we have Jeremy Hoops, Father Rob, Fatheringham, you have all the the great women that uh, uh, there's Karen. I can't remember Karen's last name. Sorry, Karen. Um, you'll think of it. I'll think of it. Um, who's the other lady that lives in Gwendalyn? Gwendalyn, and of course, we had Karen Hyatt. Karen Hyatt. Yeah. Thank you. Anyway, um, okay. Done tons of research on this, tons of research, and this is just this old stinky narrative, and most of it came from anti-Mormons. You have, you have a guy like John Delin, who believes exactly what, um, the narrative of the church. Yeah. Brian Hails, and he's, he's not a historian, you know.
Okay, let's get back to quoting this. "Latter-day Saint converts in the 19th century had been raised in traditional monogamous homes and struggled with the idea of a man having more than one wife. It was as foreign to them as it would be to most families today in the western world. And even Brigham Young, this just kind of makes me sick, who was later to have many wives and children, confessed to his uh, confessed to his initial dread of the principle of plural marriage." Subsequently, now that's all it says about that. Then it goes right in. "Subsequently, in 1890, President Wilford Woodruff, fourth president of the church, received," and listen to the word, the verbiage on this, "received what Latter-day Saints believe to be a revelation in which God withdrew the command to practice plural marriage." This is like written to a non-LDS audience. It almost seems written by AI. It's, it, Thank you. It sounds like it's written by AI for just uh, the masses to to read. Um, so I don't recall ever sustaining, um, BYU professors as anything. I don't recall uh, needing to listen to all the things they say and live what they say and believe what they say. And this is who wrote this. But Brian Hills had so much influence on this and, oh, we're so grateful for him. Okay.
"Subsequently, 1890 prison." Okay. I read that. Okay. "He issued what has become to be known as the Manifesto, a written declaration to church members and the public at large that stopped the practice of plural marriage." If you read the account and what Wilford said about it himself, he, he, he actually asked the saints, "What would you have me do? The government's going to shut us down." So, here's another question. Do you think that we would still be living plural marriage in the church if the government hadn't said you can't do it anymore? Do you, would, would the Lord still be commanding us to live plural marriage? That's a good question. Put it in the comments. Also put it in the comments if the person should lose their recommend, temple recommend, if they don't believe this uh, this narrative that's on here.
Okay. While we were on our mission, and I'm sure presiding over a mission, but yeah, go ahead. Anybody that would come in that came from a polygamous family were highly scrutinized before they could be baptized. It was, They were mercilessly scrutinized. Yeah. They weren't just like, "Oh, okay. This is really great. Thanks for coming. You know, we're so glad you want to be a member." Up one side, down the other. Railed on. Yeah. Very good. Thank you.
Okay. "Today, church church members honor and respect the sacrifice made by those who practiced polygamy in the early days of the church." I, I, I, it bothers me that there, that this AI presentation here is is lumping every member of the church saying that we are so grateful. We're, we're mindful of the women that had to go through this horrible thing, but we're not like, "Oh, the men are just so amazing, you know, that they had all these women and children and uh, wives and concubines, the doctrine of wives and concubines, right?" Okay. What, what haven't we heard yet in this? And what we probably want here is section 132, but let's keep going here today, church. Okay. "Honor, respect, blah, blah, blah. However, the practice is banned in the church and no person can participate or can practice plural marriage and remain a member." This is, I think the third time it's reiterated that already.
"The standard doctrine." Okay, so this is really interesting. This is the narrative now. You'll never, you'll never find this in scripture or anything. This is the narrative now. "The standard doctrine of the church is monogamy, as it always has been, as indicated in the Book of Mormon, Jacob chapter 2. Wherefore, my brethren, hear me and hearken to the words of the Lord. For there shall not any man among you have save he be one wife, and concubines you shall have none." Zero, zippo. Compare that with section 132. Okay. Okay. Um, where are my scriptures? For if I will, Could you get mine out too, please? They're in my black briefcase down there. Um, saith the Lord of hosts, raise up seed unto me. I will command my people. Otherwise, they shall hearken unto these things. This, this is, they're saying that this is a statement that sometimes, right? Yep. Right in in there. And I, I want to read, I want to read the the contextual. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Because, because listen to this. This is, this is absolutely ridiculous. Jacob is very clear of why Lehi and his family had to leave Jerusalem. It was for this very reason. I'm in verse 25 of se of Jacob 2. "Wherefore, thus saith the Lord, I, I, I have led this people forth out of the land of Jerusalem by the power of of mine arm that I might raise up unto me a righteous branch from the fruit of the loins of Joseph. Wherefore, I the Lord God will not suffer that this people shall do like unto them of old." And them of old were the time of Jeremiah. Go and read Jeremiah. See what was going on there. It was wives and concubines. And quite often the offspring of those concubines would be used for child sacrifice in the Hinnom Valley, um, the valley of the shadow of death. It, it, I've been there. Sue's been there. We know the feeling of that place. This is where this was taking place, and this is what it was talking about. So the verses after, it's not talking about starting up polygamy for right. It's saying I'm going to move people out of places to to raise up a righteous branch to get them away from the abomination. To use that is so dishonest in this in this essay or this this post on the church news site. It's just, it's just sickening because the scriptures are clear on that.
"In other words, the standard of the Lord's people is monogamy unless the Lord reveals otherwise." What a load of croc. "Latter-day Saints believe the season the church practiced polygamy was one of these exceptions." Latter-day Saints do. I don't. Are you a Latter-day Saint? Am I? Yeah. Do you believe it? No, I don't either. So, who's speaking for me? AI. AI. It, you know, if it said some or many, I'd be fine with it. But just to say that every Latter-day Saint agrees with this is, is, is dishonest, and they know it. Why are they putting this out? You know, I, we got this mass email in our stake saying, you know, you need to go see, [Music] some, some, we will recommend therapists for you. Yeah. Cuz they don't say it, but you know, it's like, you know, marriages are going to crap, and so we need you to go to licensed therapists, and we have a list of them. This went out to every stake member who had an email. Unless psych. What the heck? Okay, I got off.
Okay, so, so polygamous groups and individuals, back to quoting again, in and around Utah often cause confusion for casual observers and for visiting news media. "The polygamist and polygamist organizations in part of the western United States and Canada have no affiliation whatsoever with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Despite the fact that the term Mormon, widely understood to be a nickname for Latter-day Saints, is sometimes incorrectly, uh, sometimes is sometimes incorrectly applied to them."
Okay. And then I just want to, So that's it. That's it. And then it goes, "Additional Resources," and it goes through all these things you can click to go on lds.org and and and see. Um, we had some great people in one of our areas, and they were polygamous, huge polygamous clan. I don't know what you call them other than that, but well, that's okay to say. We lived in the Park City area, and there were the Kelches and the Euings, and and they were, they were big. And when we served our mission, Taylorsville was in our mission with their huge population of polygamists in in Taylorsville. When they'd hit 18, they could be baptized. And we had three or four, I would say, convert baptisms. The last one was the sweetest, sweetest girl. Her parents came with her, and they were all, they were supportive of her, and a General Authority railed over the coals, and then he, I had already interviewed her, but he, he interviewed her, and then he calls me. I, I'll never forget, you were with me, so we're driving to some place. He, this GA calls me and said, "Before that girl is allowed to be baptized, you need to interview her again." And I, I, this is, She was pure. She was as pure as the driven. She came from a polygamous family. Yeah. And so I, I, Okay, I'll, I'll be totally upfront and honest. I said, "Okay." And then I went, "That'll never happen." As soon as I hung up, I'm not, I'm not doing that. Uh, because I was told by President Iring, we were told by President Iring that you do what the Lord tells you to do. And then he specifically said, and this is before he knew when, and I've mentioned this before, this is before he knew where our call was going to be, Salt Lake City West Mission. He said, he, he said, "You're going to be influenced by a lot of people, a lot of books, a lot of manuals." And he said, "You do what the Lord tells you to do." Then he said this. He goes, "Now, if it's a General Authority that tells you what to do," he said, "Be nice to them. Remember?" And then he said, "But as soon as they leave, you do what the Lord tells you to do." So that's what I did in this case. I obeyed, um, a person that I sustain as a prophet, seer, and revelator. You'd already, you'd already spoken with her. I, I interviewed her. I, you know, and it, it's not that I didn't, I don't have time, but, but this was, this was just ridiculous to just keep, you know, but there's this, there's this hatred towards polygamy, and then there's there's this love of, yeah, it all, it all was this, well, scripturally, and and they lump. So, did you notice that section 132 is not in there? And the other thing is, uh, in in this, in this uh, news, uh, uh, newsroom release, the other thing that's interesting about it is that section 132 doesn't say anything about this. Oh, that, that it's okay that, that the standard is monogamy, but then it's okay if the Lord says, says it's okay. That's not anywhere in section 132. So using the Book of Mormon for this is just maddening because the Book of Mormon is so clear. And there's no example in a thousand-year period of time of history. And that's just the Nephite-Lamanite people. Then you have the Jaredites. You have Mulikites, roughly the same time as the Nephites. But, but the Mulikites way before, never, there's, there's never any. And why lump Isaac in there? Uh, well, that's 132. Okay. I think that, Okay. Sorry. Go, go, go, go.
So in D&C 49:16 it says, "Wherefore, it is lawful that he should have one wife, and they and they twain shall be one flesh, and all this that the earth might answer the end of its creation." That's interesting. And I remember hearing that some women would leave their husbands and go to other men who had the priesthood higher, a higher, or a higher priesthood calling. Yeah. And this is what verse 20 says in 49. "But it is not given that one man should possess that which is above another. Wherefore the world lith in sin." I don't know. Everybody can take it how they want to. But one man should possess that which is above another. So if you're higher in priesthood power, then you have more wives. Um, also, "Wherefore be not deceived, but continue in steadfastness, looking forth for the heavens to be shaken, and the earth to tremble, and to reel to and fro as a drunken man. For and for the valleys to be exalted, and for the mountains to be made low, and for the rough places to be made smooth, and all this when the angel shall sound his trumpet."
Okay, one last thing. I know this doesn't have anything to do with polygamy, but and I'm sure many of you have heard this or watched this, but, um, a lady who has an autistic son, he, um, nonverbal, right? He's non-verbal. Has to type out each letter of the word. He's only 15, and she said it's taken him a long time and a lot of muscle strength to learn how to type. But he, um, I don't know how, how did he have this experience, but he was talking about how, um, Jesus is coming soon. He spoke with his brother and sister through the veil. I know it sounds kind of crazy, but the way she was explaining it, it was so beautiful, but, um, September, that Jesus is coming in September, that the rapture is going to happen in September. And he typed that out little by little on his, on his thing. And the reason why it's so fascinating is because his, his mother, and she said she goes, "I hate to admit it, but she says I had an abortion because I didn't want to have a a handicapped child." So, I don't know, maybe she had some premonition, or I don't know. But anyway, she did. She admitted she had an abortion. And so her son was saying that he was talking to Sienna, I think it was Sienna or Sierra. And the mother was going to, she said to Heavenly Father, she says, "Please name this child, if it's a girl, Sienna, and the boy something else. I can't remember now, but anyway." And he typed out, she did not, she's never told anybody. She'd never said a thing. And the, her son, 15-year-old autistic son, typed out the first name of the little girl and also the name of the little boy that she would have named, the boy name that she would have named. And she says, "So, which one was it, her or him?" And he said, "Both." So, apparently she was going to have twins and they were aborted. Anyway, this is just, I know, folk tale, whatever. But the point of it is, is that he just said Jesus is coming soon. So we can only hope and pray. Only hope and pray.
Um, I, I want to end on one last uh, polygamy scripture. "Thou shalt," this is Doctrine Covenants 42:20, 22. "Thou shalt love thy wife with all thy heart, and shall cleave unto her, and none else." And you can cross-reference that with Genesis 2:24, Jacob 2, uh, um, Jacob, what just all most of Jacob 2. I don't like to put just spec, just one verse, typically because because you have to, um, the one that Sue just read, 49, uh, six, I think it was, um, and then there's just so many. Now, if you can't cross-reference it with many others, it's, it's, it's fake, it's phony. And uh, the reason is, is we have to, the, the church powers that be have to tie and Joseph to to put this stamp of validation for Brigham and other prophets instead of going, you know what, they, it wasn't supposed to be, and God fixed it, and now we're back on track. That's the way it should be in my opinion. Uh, so if we, um, if, if we feel something is true, we feel like we have the scriptures to back us up, I, I don't feel a reason to to go, "Well, let's not make waves and da da da blah blah blah." Because there are people out there like just like us, and, and many of you who want to stay in the good ship Zion, but need to have an understanding that things can happen, and the Lord will fix it. And he fixed this. And, and there's such a disdain for polygamy in the church now, which is so ironic. But, um, uh, in the comment section again, just a reminder, put in if a person should, should not be allowed to have a temple recommend if they don't believe Joseph Smith preached or practiced polygamy. I think that's a good question. And what was the other question I had? Um, dang it. I don't know.
But I've been, I've been watching this big beautiful motor home, and the guy has been out there spraying it down, watching. I know. I've been watching it, too. And it is, I mean, it's like, it's amazing. He's out there just scrubbing away, using all the water. That is, that's what we need to do. That's awesome.
Okay, just one last thing. "Go forth as I have commanded you. Repent of all your sins. Ask and you shall receive. Knock and it shall be open unto you. Behold, I will go before you and be your rearward, and I will be in your midst, and you shall not be confounded." I, I can tell you, beautiful. We won't be confounded if we, and, and why isn't there a discussion on this about, well, there is some, you know, controversy. It's hard. It's hard to really find how section 132 came about. You have to do some digging. And it, it didn't come about for many, many years, way after Joseph Smith died. And, and, and it was held in Brigham Young, Young's drawer. He said it. And was it the 1876 version of the Doctrine Covenants? It, it, it took out the section about marriage between a man and woman and denouncing polygamy. Took that section out and added this one in. God bless you. We'll talk to you soon. Goodbye. Bye-bye.
