Now, for the 1st of January 2026, all Nigerians who live abroad, the Nigerian government says you will start to pay tax whether you live in America, you live in Italy, you live in Germany, anywhere where you live in the world, the Nigerian government says from the 1st of January 2026, you start to pay tax to the Nigerian government.
So, let me check this out. Sit down, let those abroad understand. Tomorrow, you complain your account will be seized, they will seize your house, they will seize your land, they will seize this. You need to understand this thing together now. The president, which is the Nigerian president, has passed this law. Now, taking from the 1st of January, this tax now has two legs. They call one residential tax for people who stay in Nigeria. Then the other one, they call non-residential tax, which affects those of us who stay abroad, whether you have property in Nigeria or you don't have property in Nigeria. It's not down we talk now, so I give you so.
How will this affect us? Government, so okay, for owners who stay abroad, any money where you make, whether you drive, you work as a doctor in the country where you are, in the UK, in America, in Italy, you make money. So if you come to Nigeria, maybe you come to Nigeria for a visit, let's say you want to spend one month in Nigeria, they come see you, say you have 2 million in your account, you have 4 million in your account, you have 1 billion in your account. They will first of all check how long you have spent in Nigeria.
If the government sees and says you haven't spent up to 183 days, which is 6 months in Nigeria in one year, you will not pay any tax to the government. But if the government comes and sees that the days where you have spent in Nigeria within one year, it has passed 6 months, it has passed 183 days, for that money, the government says you will pay tax to them. You will pay tax to them. So therefore, you travel to Nigeria, you travel to Nigeria for one month in January, you go for one month, you come back, April, you go again, you spend one month, you come back, March again, you go, you spend one month. If they put all those days where you were in Nigeria together, and it comes past 183 days, whether the government says you pay, you start to pay tax in Nigeria for money in your account, or where the money is in your house, or the money in your pocket, you will pay.
The only way somebody can okay, but this money now, for example, make this money as a doctor or as a carpenter or as a factory worker, I don't pay tax to the Italian government, to the American government. Okay, now true, you up. So in that case, if you don't want to pay tax again, you must be able to have documents to prove to the Nigerian government that this money in your Nigerian account or your pocket, or when you hide it under your bed in your house in Nigeria, see evidence to prove that your salary abroad and you have paid tax. Put it like for those of us who call one simple document, show you pay tax for all this money to your Italian government, so America, UK, get to proof you pay.
So you must also show the federal government that this money in Italy, America, within a year, try not to spend more than 6 months in Nigeria. If you spend five months and two weeks, just carry your bag, or a month, or you are going, as maybe you go one month, you go after one month, you go again after three months, then you try to count together, make sure it doesn't pass all those days where you go to Nigeria, stay in Nigeria, you don't pass 183 days, so that you can just avoid all this. Bring documents, come and explain to the Nigerian government. So if you spend more than 6 months in Nigeria, money in your hand, money in your account, in your house, you will need to pay a tax to the federal government. I will tell you how much the tax is later. So that's all that one affects all of us abroad.
Now, the other one comes for people who stay in Nigeria, but that one doesn't affect us because some of us have investments in Nigeria. Maybe you build a house, you put ten out for that house, or you get a filling station, or you get a school, or you get one or two things that give you money in Nigeria. For the government, on the first of January, you start paying tax for all those. You pay money, you money they buy, you buy, you not give government anything, say no, it's not happening again on the first of January. So let me give you how they pay this tax now to the government.
Okay, wait, let me for a day. Okay. If your tenants pay you as rent, or they pay you as rent for the school you built, or for the place you have, or for the hotel where you have, they pay you. You can't put that money together for a year. If it doesn't reach 800,000, 800,000, you don't need to pay tax. Not collect the money, chop it the way before. But if that money passes 800,000, the federal government says you will pay 15% tax of that money. As you put all those money together, it comes to 900,000 or it comes to 1 million, 15% of that, you must pay out to the federal government. Say okay, between 800 to 3 million, now you will pay 15% of that money. So the money comes past 3 million up to about 12 million, now you have money you make that year for your filling station, for your house, or for the hotel, say you will pay 18% to them. Then if the money passes 12,000, between 12,000 to 20, the money passes 12 million, between 12 million to 25 million, federal government says you will pay 21% tax. So if the money passes 25 million up to about 50 million, federal government says you will pay 23% tax from European to government. Then if the money comes past 50 million, when you make for that particular year, federal government says you pay 25% tax to them.
So federal government first. So get abroad or get house for you, put out and all that. So federal government collects the tax for both people in Nigeria, investment in Nigeria. Say no, I not pay, I not pay. We never know how the government draws this money. So you know, they start to call people for house, they tell you the process. You go register that house as a business because you are making money inside, you are collecting rent. They say you go register as a business, you will get registered as a business so that you can pay this tax to government because if they catch you say you not pay this time, the money you come pay, time two, be time three, before they draw you. Like a generator, you open your eye. Now share this video, get to as many people as possible. First of January, things don't change small.
