Okay, so I wanted to take a few minutes to tell you about a builder's clean that I did recently after a property's been built or recently developed. All the windows need to be cleaned up. It's one of the toughest jobs you can do for window cleaning. I think getting rid of all the builder's muck stickers on the inside. U maybe there's tape still on the window frames.
So, to price a builder's clean, I price it at least double what I would price for a regular maintenance clean at least. You might want to take into account how bad it is. If you're getting stickers off the inside and the outside of the windows, if you're having to get off tape, I would charge a bit more. And, you know, if you do a job like that and you're thinking, I've underpriced this, the next one you'll know to charge more, won't you? So that's the way I look at things that there are no bad jobs really, just jobs that are badly priced. So as long as it's a good price, then um that makes it worth doing, doesn't it?
So I carried out this builder's clean recently. It had stickers just on the inside of the windows. So every window inside had stickers to scrape off. Outside wasn't too bad. So Craig took care of the outside. He did the upstairs with waterfed pole and the downstairs he ended up doing the traditional way. There was a bit of builder's muck from the ground works that had happened around the property. So, a lot of that needed attention by hand. So, all the stickers and things like that needed scraping off.
I love one of these. This is anger ProTrim 10. This is my favorite scraper. I've had it for 10 years, maybe more than 10 years, this scraper. And because it's got a plastic body, it doesn't rust like some of the metal ones can. You need to use soapy water on the window. In order to scrape, so the blade is just retractable. The plastic cover just goes across like that and you pull it back to reveal the blade. This blade needs changing. But the great thing about it is so easy to change as well. It's just literally like that. Flip it over. We're done. We're ready to go. Way easier than some of the metal scrapers. I've found it lasts a lot longer as well. So, you get the nice long blade scrape for scraping off all the stickers.
Some of the windows on the inside had tape as well around the handles, and most of them had tape around the handles. All of them needed scraping. So, everything on the window gets a good soaking. I soak everything with the applicator all around the window frame, all of the stickers. And if you give everything a good soak, then that immediately makes it easier to clean off. Applicator. I still use the wool applicators. I love the way they hold the water. I love the Ninja applicator because it's got like the scrubby strip all the way down it. So, it's great for things like builder's cleans. Straight away you're giving the window a bit of a scrub. So, that's brilliant.
And then all the window frames around the inside needed scrubbing down as well because all of them had plaster from the plaster work. all ends up on the window frames. So, all the window frames needed scrubbing. I'll just use my trusty yellow cloths for that mostly. But I'm kicking myself a little bit now because now I've got these window weapon pads that I got from DA components. Now, I think these would have been great if I'd had these this nice one here with the plasticky scrub texture on there so it wouldn't damage the window frame, but I think that just would have helped things along if I'd done that. So, yeah, it's a little bit time consuming, but we got through it.
There was even a large window inside where I had to bring the ladder in. So, I made sure I protected the carpet, which I did in a few places. Make sure I protect the carpet underneath the window from splashes and things like that cuz obviously it's new carpet as well. I could reach everything by hand and make sure it's all thoroughly cleaned. That bit, the total worst thing about the builder's clean, the worst thing about this job, there was some internal glass up the stairs and some masking tape which had been left on there too long. Okay. the longer masking tape has been left on there. It's a nightmare to get off. And that was really, really hard work. That was a real factor of this job, which I hadn't really accounted for. And I'd got there and the guy just said, "Oh, will you mind just cleaning those internal ones as well?" I was like, "Yeah, yeah, yeah, no problem." Little did I know, this masking tape turned out to be an absolute nightmare.
So, anyway, it all needed a good soaking, and that made it a little bit easier. Going over with the scraper. Took ages to scrape it all off. if it was really stuck on there real bad. So, that's a warning for you there. Masking tape, it's the worst. But anyway, we got the job done and it all looked really smart when it was done. So, yeah, I hope there's some tips there that help if you've got some builder cleans coming up. I feel
