LA Fleet Week, if you are active duty guard or reserved, I would like to invite you over to visit our friends at the American Legion Gaming Tent right now. American Legion Gaming is happy to hook you up with a free one-year membership to the American Legion, the largest veterans organization in the country.
If you are a >> uh right now we're here at Fleet Week and we're trying to promote Legion Gaming to involve more vets to create camaraderie and so that they can connect online in a digital space as opposed to just uh by themselves. And uh we see that as a way to combat several different initiatives from PTSD to depression and just create general connectivity of veterans out there in the community.
I think Legion Gaming is a newer initiative of uh the American Legion in general. It's growing. Uh, it's being more and more adopted every day and we're seeing more members come in to be a part of this digital gaming space. So, we have a QR code for Legion memberships and then we have a QR code to join our Discord server. Uh, and our Discord server has thousands of active duty soldiers and military veterans. Uh, and even military spouses or sons, daughters, uh, and things like that. Uh, and so, uh, once you scan that QR code, you can join that community and and reconnect.
I personally have, uh, met people I served with in the infantry and the army uh, just sitting in a voice channel one day and I'm like, "Oh, really? You know that person, too?" Uh we served together for 3 years and didn't even know it. Uh and that's what we're trying to do. We're trying to just get people communicating uh reconnecting uh and having fun.
>> We are trying to reach out to veterans to let them know that the community is there for them even after uh their service and even during their service. We want them to know that there's a place for them to be and that they have people there no matter what. that we can game together, we can sit together, that the sense of community and camaraderie that we lose after we get out is never gone. You just have to find them and we're here. And we have a Discord that you can join in. You can talk to somebody if you need to. You can sit with somebody. We do online streaming so that we can game with the community and have all of the fun times and and just listen to somebody who knows the same experiences that you've been through.
So the Essex is pulled in port. So the Navy and the Marine Corps gets to come out and have a little bit of fun in town. And so the American Legion came gaming came out so we can give them a little bit of entertainment uh a little bit of relief on their shore duty uh and let them hang out. So we brought three PlayStations. We've got a tournament going on um where it's it's two on two to fight to a tier level of a tournament and then we've got an indie indie car race uh system where it's a full-on driving seat capability feeling like you're you're actually driving that indie car.
>> Our main mission here is just to uh make sure all of our service members coming off the ship are having a great time uh over here in Los Angeles. So American Legion Gaming is a big part of what we're doing over here. Having some uh some of the uh opportunity to play games out here really has uh has enhanced what we're doing over here.
>> A lot of our service members that aren't aware of the American Legion are now becoming aware of the American Legion. And so far, I think we we're at 25 new members.
