What if you could go from not knowing what you want to knowing exactly what you want in one single sentence?
In the first part, I will tell you how the sentence works. And in the second part, I will tell you how it works. It's magic for me. So, we have the magical sentence here. I covered half of it for now with my favorite pencil box. Never mind that. The two parts are in a relationship with each other. And that is how the magic happens.
In the first part, you say whatever your dream is. And in the second part, you say why. And you say why by naming the desire behind it. And I will give you an example in a moment that illustrates for you how you can use this sentence. You can use this for really lighthearted dreams. For example, this one: I want to learn French. Because, like a person that I adore who can inhale five croissants in one sitting, you could, for example, make this your reasoning. Maybe this one is a little bit more serious than this part, but you see how this works. I want to learn French because I care about traveling there, being able to talk to people, being able to order food in this language, and to just connect with people in a way that works.
Could be a little bit more serious, for example, like this one: I want to move abroad, really anywhere, which was kind of where I came from a few years ago, because I care about growing as a person. And also because I was very curious how other people live. You see, you can extend this as much as you want. Just don't make it too complicated. It just has to kind of be connected to each other. And you can variate the words until they feel just right. And then you speak them. If I say now, for example, "I want to move abroad because I care about growing as a person and because I'm curious how other cultures live," it has to ring true to you. And that's how you can tell, okay, I'm excited about this. I really, really want to do this.
And you can also use this sentence for really, really deep desires. For example, a person that is longing to express themselves more creatively and to be connected to themselves might say something like, "I want to create something from within because I care about being true to myself." And that is how they can really nourish this time, this desire to spend time with themselves and to be creative. And there's really no limit to how you can use this sentence. A person that is struggling with visibility, for example, might want to say, "I want to show what's truly inside of me because I care about honoring my gifts." And the honoring part is then what draws them forward into talking to other people, into stepping out of their comfort zone because essentially the gratitude for the gifts is the engine to the necessity to go out and show what's inside of them.
As you might have noticed, this one was mine: I want to move abroad because I care about growing as a person. I love my home country of Germany. However, I also felt a little bit stuck. I felt like I needed to widen my horizon quite a bit in order to reach my next growth cycle. So, cheekily, this is the bridge to the part where I tell you how this worked for me. I want to move abroad because I care about growing as a person. That was my strong desire. And also at the time I had been leading a project for entrepreneurship, and I just felt really drawn to countries that were English-speaking. I wanted to meet new people, wanted to get in touch with new technologies. So when I met my now husband, who asked me to come with him to the United States on our first date, which was a bit, you know, unexpected because I had built a clarity, I was able to name this opportunity as something that would align with what I, where I wanted to go, and it was really very casual at first. I thought, okay, I'm going to make a vacation; I'm going to be abroad for some time, and then I really fell in love with this part of California where you can do pretty, pretty much anything. Granted, nothing is perfect, right? Of course, it came with new challenges, but because I knew that I wanted to do this, I knew that I wanted to put myself through learning the language better, as you know, I still have an accent, right? I could tell that if I kind of put myself through this fire, through going through Mexico during the pandemic, um, to meet this person that I really fell in love with, that I unexpectedly connected with at that time in my life, if I really go through all of this, then I'm able to live my desire and to therefore be in my big dream. So, I can only highly recommend doing this. It's an alignment exercise essentially that shows us opportunities but also allows us to name what we're willing to do for it. Because before it was like, like the French part, right? Who hasn't thought, "Oh, I could learn a new language." But then it also needs something to anchor it down into our real-life desire, to our real-life experience.
So yeah, that's it from me. I hope you use this sentence wisely because it can really unlock big change pretty fast, and it may also just take years to unfold as it did for me. Although it happened within 8 months after naming my desire quietly to myself in my journal, all that not, you know, not in the grand video announcement on YouTube, but yes, this can be as private as you want it to be, and maybe it should be because sometimes it's better to protect our, our dreams for some time until they have grown from a seed to a little plant so we don't have to justify our dreams and desires to other people. And if you would like to go really in-depth on the next segment of your life, want to craft a whole comprehensive vision, I recommend my video, "The Secret Ingredient to Vision Board," and there you can learn how to check in on yourself, going through templates for each category of your life. Let it be physical needs, or let it be relationships, let it be creativity. You can work through all of them on your own time by printing out the templates. Hope to see you soon. Bye.
