[Music] hi it's Robin Sharma thanks a lot for being here with me this is all about the incredible importance of recovery we'll start off with a brain tattoo which is rest is not a luxury rest is a necessity if you look at the greatest athletes in the world what makes them special is not just their talent but it's their work rest ratios the energy project has done some amazing work on this and what the energy project research has found is that the most productive people in the world have one thing in common they rest a lot they're almost professional resters they're almost more like sprinters versus marathoners when they work they work intensely with Incredible focus and deep commitment and then they pull back and they recover so I want you to think about it and I want you to also think about the fact that the world's greatest tennis players were studied and what made them great was what they did not on the court but in between points I also think about Mike Tyson if you watch his documentary which you really should called Tyson I don't know why they call it Tyson but anyway the documentary called Tyson he said when he was at the top of his game absolutely undefeatable he only did three things not 50 things he was a minimalist versus is a maximalist and what were the three things he did number one he trained number two he ate and number three he slept we live in a world right now where there's too much hustle and grind messaging it's this idea of okay if you don't work 365 24/7 you're not worthy you're not going to achieve Victory well the most productive people the top leaders the best performers actually it's like a pulse in the 500 a.m. Club I call it the Twin cycles of Elite Performance please study that model actually as a bonus for you for securing a membership to the Habit camp program I'm going to do something very special I'm going to give you a module of me teaching the Twin cycles of Elite Performance at one of my highest level and most valuable Live Events it cost people over $25,000 just to get into the room I'm going to give you the module of me teaching the Twin cycles of Elite Performance no charge my gift for you to thank you for your investment in the habit camp program and to reward you for your commitment to learning this concept so anyway the most productive people work in Cycles the HC the high Excellence cycle and then they shift into the DRC the Deep recovery cycle this could happen every day by taking breaks by taking a nap by meditating you work hard in a burst maybe it's 90 minutes and then you meditate for 10 minutes or go for a walk for 10 minutes or visualize for 10 minutes or just do something different like read a book for 10 minutes and then every week take at least a day off I call it the zero device day Zero devices it's a digital Sabbath and you just go to an art gallery or you hang out with your best friend or your family or you go get a massage or you go out and walk in the woods like I've just I worked on the manuscript of my new books I'm now out for nature walk to renew and recover and then at least once a month take a few days off and then at least every quarter take a week off now you might say why would I do this Robin well do less work to get more done because if all you do is work then you are going to deplete your assets of Genius which include your energy your creativity your focus your willpower so you want to work hard when you work and then you want to rest intelligently this is the secret to not only physical longevity but outliving the peers in your industry that's a pro tip you want to stay in the game longer than anyone else who is in your field ultimately that will allow you to achieve domain dominance create Rich streams of value for many people and have a great time doing it because I don't know about you but I love serving people I love being productive and I love resting some tools that will help you rest more elegantly I've talked about this before but you want to meditate for at least 5 minutes every single day napping is a great tool that's my second tool you look at many of the world's most productive and creative people they loved napping Winston Churchill said by taking a nap he had a second day third way to rest reading I find if I've been working on my Project X that's my key project I want to bring out into the world reading I'm reading Fahrenheit 4551 right now it's a wonderful wonderful book I just finished a book called the Outsider about this man he was in his mid 70s he lived in a school bus in a forest of British Columbia and it was just a fascinating book about him being a Hermit why he became a Hermit his love of nature there were physical lessons on endurance there were spiritual lessons there were lessons on life but I find a great way to rest is to read because not all recovery needs to be passive I once had a great trainer and she talked about active recovery she said Robin you've worked out hard this week go for a walk go for a light mountain bike ride that's active recovery that will allow you to replenish of course physical sleep is incredibly important and that's the final tool become a professional sleeper and the key to deep sleep in many ways is your pre-sleep routine don't be in front of your white screen 3 hours before you sleep sleep in a cool bedroom don't have your digital devices next to you when you sleep have a great wind down ritual like a half hour Epsom salt bath where you listen to great music maybe you light a candle and then ease into sleep oh bonus tip Martin Seligman the father of positive psychology did some research and he found that before you go to sleep or at least sometime during the day but I suggest you do it before you go to sleep pull out your journal and ask yourself this fundamentally life-changing question what are three good things that happened to me today our brain has a negativity bias we look at the threats we focus on the negative things or the problems this is an antidote to negativity asking yourself what are three great things that happened to me today it will train your brain to focus on the micro winds which will make you more positive you'll have a much deeper sleep thank you so much for being with me and I celebrate you for going through the Habit camp program you're doing great I'll see you in the next backstage pass
