Over the past few weeks, the testimony of US Army veteran William Sasha Riley has circulated widely online. These claims are serious. The allegations are disturbing.
Today, I'm not attempting to decide what is true or false. Rather, I'm going to establish a timeline and show what documentation currently exists that corroborates parts of William Sasha Riley's story.
In September of 2021, Riley publicly posted a list of items they said would corroborate their claims, including medical records, CPS involvement in multiple states, police reports, witnesses, and adoption documents. This matters because it shows that these claims were being made years before the current viral attention, not retroactively.
Independent researcher Sue Cell has done a great deal of work to verify that William Sasha Riley is a real person and that work has paid off. Right off the bat, we have court-filed adoption records from Green County, Tennessee. These documents show that a child originally named Manuel Sasha Barros was born on June 23rd, 1973 in Germany. He was legally adopted and renamed William Sasha Riley in 1978. This independently corroborates Riley's claim regarding adoption, original identity, and birthplace.
Sasha has had multiple known aliases that are consistent with name changes over time. During his childhood and his military career, they went by the name William Sasha Riley. Today, their social media accounts indicate they go by the name Sasha Baros. Minor traffic citations from the late 1990s further confirm real-world presence and continuity, something that is rather difficult to fabricate retroactively.
Riley has long claimed that their adoptive father, William Kyle Riley, was a highly skilled pilot with access to aircraft. Public FAA aviation databases confirm that William Kyle Riley held multiple commercial pilot certifications, including helicopter and multi-engine aircraft. A 2020 article further confirms that William Kyle Riley received the FAA Master Pilot Award, which requires decades of verified flight experience. These records corroborate capability and access, but not any allegation of wrongdoing.
William Sasha Riley's military service is also independently documented. Official discharge records show service in the US Army, including deployment to Iraq, multiple decorations, and an honorable retirement. This establishes Riley's presence at specific bases and locations referenced in later claims.
Michael R. Bis was Sasha Riley's first sergeant while Riley served at Fort Carson between 2009 and 2010. In a brief message exchange with independent investigative journalist Suselle, Bis confirmed that he was in the room when the commanding officer asked Riley if he was in a video. Bailis says that he did not see the video and he is not certain if the commanding officer saw it. An article reporting that two Carson soldiers were arrested on child porn charges was published in the Denver Post on May 28th, 2009.
A Lawton, Oklahoma police detective has confirmed that Riley filed a police report in 2022. That report was forwarded to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation because the alleged crimes occurred outside Lawton's jurisdiction. While the existence of this report is confirmed, the contents of the report are not public.
It is critical to be precise here. Certainly, these documents do not prove the most serious allegations presented by William Sasha Riley. What they do establish is something narrower, but very important. Multiple independent records confirm that William Sasha Riley, the person, exists. The adoption occurred. The named individuals are real. The aviation background of Bill Riley, Sasha Riley's adoptive father, is accurate. The military service is real. A police report was indeed filed four years ago. And so far, none of these foundational claims have been shown to be false.
Responsible investigation cannot begin with conclusions. It begins with testimony, yes, but then it makes its way through documents, timelines, and verification. I will keep you updated as more records are released, including potential medical records, CPS files, or court filings. Until then, the question isn't, "Is everything true?" The question is why has so much of this basic groundwork held up under scrutiny and where do we go from here?
