Welcome, friend. I'm Jack, host of the channel, and today we're diving into another episode. Pour yourself a drink and get comfortable, because I've got a powerful story coming your way. If something hits deep, drop your thoughts in the comments. Let's get into it.

When Emma realized it was too late to make a call, the clock had already struck past midnight. She silently hoped it was Josh's phone ringing. Annoyed, she buried her face in the pillow, exhaling a sigh of relief when the ringing stopped after five attempts. Just as she began to settle back into bed, the phone rang again. Frustrated, she groaned and opened her eyes. "Josh, answer the phone," she muttered, but her words were cut off as she became fully awake, noticing Josh was not in bed beside her.

Emma glanced at the clock. It read 3:37 AM. She reached for the phone on the nightstand, realizing it had been moved. Just a few hours ago, Josh had been right there when they went to sleep. Confused, she answered the phone, murmuring, "Hello? Who is this?"

The voice on the other end inquired, "Is this Emma Johnson? Are you the wife of Josh Johnson?"

"Yes, that's me. Who am I speaking to?" Emma asked, a knot forming in her stomach.

"Mrs. Johnson, I'm calling from the emergency department at City Hospital. Your husband was in an accident about an hour ago. We have your contact information from a previous incident. Can you come to the hospital now?" the man on the other end requested.

"Oh my God, is he okay?" Emma exclaimed, her voice trembling.

"I can't provide details over the phone, ma'am. Please come as soon as possible," the voice replied.

"Yes, of course. I'll be there right away," Emma responded, her heart racing. She quickly rushed upstairs to wake her daughter, Katie, who was fast asleep. Katie, named after her grandmother, was attending a nearby college but chose to live at home to save money. Although she had enjoyed dorm life during her freshman year, Katie remained asleep.

"Katie, wake up!" Emma's voice pierced through the fog of sleep. Katie sat up abruptly, squinting against the harsh light in the room. Her mother's words slowly registering. "Your father was in an accident. He's in the emergency room. You need to get dressed. We have to go."

In a panic, Katie threw back the blankets and jumped out of bed. She hastily pulled her nightgown over her head, not caring that she was standing naked in front of her mother. Emma, too focused on finding clothes for Katie, didn't notice. Katie dressed quickly, her mind racing with anxiety for her father. She followed her mother out of the room, her heart pounding with fear and uncertainty.

After quickly dressing, the two women rushed to the hospital. Katie kept asking her mother what had happened, but Emma had no answers. The journey seemed to take forever, but in reality, it only took about 10 minutes with little traffic. When they arrived, they were directed to Josh's room in the emergency department. There, they were shocked by his appearance. He was heavily bandaged and unresponsive. Despite their grief, they were given forms to fill out. Even in times of crisis, bureaucracy could not be avoided. Katie pulled her chair closer to her father, seeking comfort in his presence. They sat in silence for about an hour before a man and a woman dressed in police uniforms entered the room.

"Good evening, Mom," the woman introduced herself, identifying herself as Officer Grace Turner, with her partner Officer Mark Hill standing beside her. "We were the first to arrive at the scene. Is there any news about his condition?"

Emma shook her head, her voice filled with concern. "No one has told us anything yet, Officer. This is my daughter, Katie," she added.

The officers exchanged glances and then turned back to the family. "We need to ask you a few questions," Officer Turner said gently. "I understand this is not the best time, but it's important for the investigation. Can you tell us what your husband was doing outside at this time?"

"Actually, he was at home with me. We went to bed around 10 PM. I didn't even know he was gone until I got a call from the hospital," Emma replied.

Officer Turner turned to Katie. "Ma'am, can you confirm this?"

"Yes, we watched a movie on TV that ended around 10 PM, and then everyone went to bed. I saw Dad go into Mom's room," Katie responded.

"Do you remember which movie you watched?" the officer asked.

"We watched an action movie with Keanu Reeves," Katie replied.

"Did your husband have any personal problems, perhaps financial difficulties or issues in your marriage?" the officer asked.

"Just the usual problems that come up in any marriage, nothing unusual. But I am puzzled as to why he left the house without telling me," Emma said.

"Were there any other people injured?"

"That's just it, Miss Johnson," Officer Turner replied. "It was a single-car incident. Two witnesses reported that your husband's car was functioning normally before it suddenly accelerated and crashed into a large oak tree at the intersection of Main Street and Elm Avenue. There were no signs of attempted breaking," the officer explained.

Emma and Katie were shocked by the officer's statement. "Are you suggesting that my husband caused this accident intentionally?" Emma asked.

"We need to inspect the car for any mechanical malfunctions that might have caused the accident, and we also need to speak to your husband when he regains consciousness. It's one of the possibilities we are considering," the officer replied. "Are you sure there weren't any problems with the car that you should have told us about?" the officer asked.

"I assure you, my husband and I have a strong and loving relationship. I can't think of any problem that would have led to this. I believe it might have been a simple case of losing control or perhaps falling asleep, especially given the late hour. I'm sure there's a logical explanation for this," Emma replied, tears streaming down her face, making it impossible for her to finish her sentence.

Officer Turner placed a card on the table, urging them to call if they remembered anything else, then quietly left the hospital room. Katie closed the door to Josh's room and turned to her mother with a questioning look. "Why didn't you tell them? What's going on?" she asked.

"No, Katie, I didn't," her mother replied after her tears subsided. "It doesn't concern them and has nothing to do with the situation. Your father might bring it up when they talk to him. We just have to wait and see."

The following days dragged on. Josh remained in a coma, hospitalized and cared for by Emma and Katie, who took turns sitting by his bedside, ensuring he was never left alone. Emma contacted Josh's boss, explained the situation, and informed him about Josh's absence from work. The accident had happened on a Saturday night, and it wasn't until Wednesday morning that Josh began to show signs of recovery. By noon, his eyes opened, though he was still unable to fully focus. Emma, who was sitting next to him, noticed the change and moved closer to calm him down. A minute later, a nurse rushed into the room, alerted by the monitor showing that the patient was waking up. Emma stepped back to give the nurse space to attend to Josh.

Soon, his condition began to improve. More doctors entered to assess his state. Taking advantage of the moment, Emma slipped outside to call Katie and inform her about her father's awakening. Though Katie didn't answer, Emma left a voicemail with the news. As the medical team began removing some of the equipment, it became evident that Josh's left arm was broken. However, since he was right-handed, this didn't pose too much of an issue. His throat, irritated from the breathing tube, required a communication board. The nurse read his message and asked if he was sure. Josh nodded, prompting the nurse to step outside. While the doctors continued their tests, "Mrs. Johnson, I regret to inform you that your husband has requested that you and your daughter not be allowed to enter his room," the nurse said.

Emma was stunned. "What? He's my husband! I have every right to be with him!" she exclaimed.

"I understand, Miss Johnson, but the patient's wishes come first," the nurse explained.

"Please, let me talk to him. We can sort this out," Emma pleaded, trying to push past the nurse, but to no avail. Desperate, she called out, "Josh! Josh, please talk to me! What's going on?"

The nurse interrupted, scolding her for disturbing the other patients. "Miss Johnson, please stop shouting. If you wish, you can wait outside the ward, but if you attempt to enter or make noise again, you will be asked to leave the premises. Do you understand?"

Emma nodded, realizing she had no choice but to comply. About 45 minutes later, Katie arrived at the hospital and found her mother sitting in a chair outside the ward. "Mom, why are you here? Why did Dad forbid us from entering?" Katie asked, confused.

Emma hesitated before replying. "Well, he forbade me, but I don't understand why he included you. And why did it take you so long to get here?"

Katie explained, "I just woke up when Eric came over to check on me."

"Instead of being with your father, you chose to be with your boyfriend," Emma said, her tone threatening. "I understand he was unconscious when you left, but it still shows where your priorities lie."

Katie replied in an indifferent tone, showing no remorse for her actions. She justified her decision by saying she needed to relax after such a stressful situation, and it worked. "She suggested her mother also find time to relax in a similar way, but Emma vehemently refused, stating it wasn't something she would do. She also added that now was not the time to discuss this issue, as it was disrespectful. Katie couldn't help but chuckle at the irony.

Suddenly, a tall, stunning brunette knocked on the door. She was dressed professionally, though not like a doctor, but her badge identified her as Dr. Collins, a mental health specialist at the hospital. "Good morning, Mr. Johnson," she greeted him. "How are you feeling?"

"As good as expected," Josh finally managed to say, now able to speak since the outdated communication board was no longer needed. He inquired about his discharge date but received no clear answer.

"Despite that, the hospital asked me to talk to you. Is that all right?" Dr. Collins asked.

"Do I have a choice?" he inquired.

"Not if you want to be discharged as soon as possible. I have to sign off on your release," the psychiatrist replied with a small grin.

"All right, let's get this over with," Josh said. Dr. Collins pulled up a chair next to his bed and sat down elegantly, crossing her legs. After a few minutes of reviewing his file, she spoke. "It seems you were admitted just over a week ago following an accident with a large tree. I also noticed you requested that your wife and daughter not visit you. This leads me to believe there may be some connection between these two events."

Josh nodded. "She cheated on me," he confessed.

The nurse sighed, acknowledging that infidelity is unfortunately common, but rarely leads to such extreme actions. "Is there more to the story?" she asked.

Josh remained silent for what seemed like an eternity. The last thing he wanted to do was open up about his feelings, especially to a beautiful woman like Dr. Collins. He wished he had an older male therapist he could trust, but Dr. Collins remained calm and understanding, giving him a chance to gather his thoughts. Finally, after what felt like forever, Josh found the courage to speak. "I think I was depressed," he admitted quietly. "There wasn't an official diagnosis, but I just felt lost. I haven't had the desire to be intimate for over a year."

"It all started after that incident, right?" the doctor asked, likely aware of his medical history and having access to all his records. She wanted him to admit it, to tell the truth. "It wasn't even an accident. I was a passenger in the back seat when we got rear-ended. My boss was in the front passenger seat, and his boss was driving. There were no airbags to protect us," he began. "I didn't expect to get hurt so badly, but it happened. I accidentally hit my head on the seat in front of me, which I believe caused the injury. According to the report, I suffered a head injury and a mild concussion. Despite numerous tests and treatments, the doctors couldn't provide a clear explanation for my condition. It seems that a part of my brain was damaged, preventing me from feeling arousal. My wife became frustrated with our intimate life, which eventually led to her having an affair. This situation had been wearing me down for months before that night. We tried to solve our problems in different ways, but in the end, it wasn't enough. I know there are certain specialists who can help in situations like this. I've already experienced some form of intimacy, although I'm a bit embarrassed to talk about it. At first, we hoped everything would work out, dreaming of spending a whole weekend in bed together, enjoying each other's company. Unfortunately, that never happened. Eventually, she sought satisfaction elsewhere without telling me. I only found out when I unexpectedly came home from work early. It may sound cliché, but it was a shocking revelation. She was at home, not only with her lover but also with my daughter and her boyfriend."

Dr. Collins's voice was filled with disbelief as she asked, "Were they together?"

"Thankfully, no. Diana and Greg were in the bedroom, and Katie and Eric were in the living room. That's how I discovered my wife's infidelity and learned my daughter was aware and seemingly unbothered," he replied.

"Is that why you forbid your daughter from visiting you?" she asked.

"Yes. Oh, and if I haven't mentioned it, Greg is Eric's father. We met him by chance, as he's my daughter's boyfriend's dad. It later turned out Katie introduced Greg to her mother. This revelation came as a shock," he said.

"Have you discussed this situation with them?" she asked.

"Not exactly. I considered talking to Diana, but I've already seen more of my daughter's personal life than I'd like. I decided to leave it. Her explanation wasn't what I expected," he said. "She regretted that I found out, but emphasized that if I couldn't fulfill her needs, she'd have to find a permanent partner. She preferred having someone consistent rather than constantly searching for a new partner. Greg, who was single and had similar needs, became her choice. What could I do? I couldn't give her what she needed physically. It wasn't her fault; she was just doing what she needed for her well-being."

"If she had hypothetically asked you beforehand, would you have agreed?" the doctor asked.

"I've thought about this question for a long time, torn between my love for her and my own happiness," Josh replied. "In the end, I realized I couldn't go through with it. We made vows, including a commitment to support each other in sickness and in health. I couldn't betray her, and I couldn't accept the thought of her doing the same to me."

"Despite this, did she continue seeing him?" the doctor asked.

"Now that I know, she was less discreet. I can't say for sure if she started seeing him more often since I didn't know how often it was before. It used to be just during the day when I was at work, but now it included weekends and outings, some of which she obviously spent with Greg," he replied.

"It must have been tough," the doctor said sympathetically.

"Tough doesn't even begin to describe it," he said. "And yet, I felt powerless to do anything. She deserved a fulfilling intimate life, but I couldn't provide that. The weight of it was suffocating. Let me tell you about the night of the accident. The whole family gathered to watch a movie. I tried to mask my heartache, keeping it hidden. It seemed better not to burden Diana and Katie with my worries. They shared kisses and hugs before bed, and I got a simple good night from Katie. At that moment, I realized she had lost all respect for me as a father and a man. It was hard to blame her, considering I didn't think much of myself either. Like Diana, I went to bed as usual. The monotony was suffocating. Every evening was the same. As soon as Diana fell asleep, I quietly dressed, took my wallet and keys, and went upstairs to check on Katie. Seeing her peacefully asleep, I kissed her goodbye and headed to the car. As I got into the driver's seat, I noticed the airbags, a reminder of the safety features in the car. I believed that if the impact was strong enough, nothing would change. I didn't have a concrete plan; I just drove aimlessly. The absence of obstacles and a clear path led me towards the oak tree," he finished.

They sat in silence for a few moments, each replaying the story in their head. Finally, the doctor broke the silence. "Mr. Johnson, I appreciate your openness and honesty with me. This is quite unusual. I'll give you time to think about what you've shared with me. Is it all right if I come back tomorrow?" she asked.

"I'm not going anywhere," he replied with a touch of sarcasm.

They shook hands, and Dr. Collins left the room. Josh took his phone, which had been left at home earlier and which Emma had kindly brought to him despite his protests. He replied to numerous messages and emails and informed his boss of the latest developments. Finally, he closed his eyes and tried to rest.

When Emma returned home, she tried her best to keep her composure. She couldn't shake the feeling that Josh didn't mind her meeting Greg, as if he allowed it as a sign of his love for her. At first, Emma considered what happened to be a simple accident, but as doubts crept into her mind, her confidence wavered. She feared that the authorities might question her husband, fearing he would reveal details of her relationship with Greg. The police never contacted her again, likely deciding that extramarital contact wasn't a crime. Perhaps they decided it was an accident and closed the case. She didn't care if there were issues she couldn't remember, and she certainly wasn't going to abstain from physical intimacy just because someone had accused her husband's boss. This wasn't the life she had agreed to, and she wasn't about to agree to it now.

When Josh returned home, Emma decided she would be more attentive to his feelings and more restrained in dealing with Greg, but she wasn't going to give up. The next morning, Dr. Collins returned as promised. Josh noticed changes in the doctor's demeanor, but unfortunately, nothing had changed for him.

"How are you feeling this morning, Mr. Johnson?" Dr. Collins asked.

"Nothing has changed since yesterday, doctor. I'm ready to go home, but it seems the decision is in your hands," Josh said.

"Well, at least partially. Unfortunately, according to state law, you must be held for 72 hours. The countdown started with yesterday's conversation, so we have a couple more days. But the food here isn't too terrible," she said with a smile.

"I'm glad you haven't lost your sense of humor," she remarked.

"Me too," he replied. "It's been quite a long time, or rather, several months since I really felt like myself. I used to be quite the joker and often annoyed Katie with my antics," he replied.

"Have you had any disturbing thoughts lately? Maybe there are some hidden dark corners of your mind we haven't yet explored?" the doctor asked.

"You see, everything has changed. I've been struggling with depression for a year now, but recently those feelings have shifted. Now, instead of sadness, I'm filled with anger and disappointment. I feel that Diana and Katie have let me down, especially Diana. But first and foremost, I'm disappointed in myself for not showing self-control and not letting my wife know her behavior was unacceptable. Will I take a stand now? Definitely. Although the idea of divorce is very tempting, I am aware of my role in making it happen. If she agrees to end her relationship with Greg, I am ready to go to a psychologist and work on rebuilding our marriage," he said.

"I must commend your determination, Mr. Johnson. It's not often I witness such a transformation in such a short period," the doctor noted.

"During the time I've spent here, I've had plenty of opportunities to reflect on my thoughts. I am grateful for the chance you gave me to share them with someone, which allowed me to clarify and organize my thoughts," he replied.

"Your behavior in this situation was truly remarkable, Mr. Johnson. That's why I've decided to end our conversation for today. I'll stop by tomorrow for a final chat, but I see no reason why you can't be discharged as planned," she concluded.

"I can't wait for that, Doc," he replied. Josh knew that if he wanted change, he had to start acting like change was inevitable. The airbags proved to be highly effective and exceeded Josh's expectations. The most challenging aspect of the accident was the concussion he received, which required extended rest in a dark, quiet room. Josh's wife and daughter surrounded him with care and attention. Everything went smoothly for a little over a week until Emma suddenly announced she needed to go shopping.

"No, Emma," he replied calmly.

"What do you mean, no?" Emma asked, incredulous. "There are essentials we need, including your healing creams. Make a list for Katie to go in your place," Josh ordered.

"Why are you dragging me into this, Dad? I already have plans with Eric," Katie protested.

"Well, then you have extra motivation to make your shopping trip quicker, don't you?" Josh replied.

When Emma reluctantly started making a list, she said, "This is ridiculous, Josh. You can't just barge in and disrupt everything. Katie and I have our own routine, and only I go to the store, period."

"Do you really think I'm naive, Emma?" he asked.

"Naive? No, Josh, that's not what I meant. Why are you suddenly doubting me?" she asked indignantly.

"Do you really think I don't understand that these grocery shopping trips are just an excuse to see Greg?" he said sarcastically.

"I've never come home without groceries, Josh," Emma replied angrily.

"Of course, it's a great alibi, but you've been gone too long, and I see right through you," Josh summed up. "When you avoid looking me in the eye, when your outfits don't seem right, when your makeup looks a bit off, it means something has changed." The time spent with Greg was a thing of the past, and Emma's shocked expression only emphasized this fact. Josh continued, "At that moment, Katie couldn't help but feel a newfound respect for her father."

"Please, Josh, we've already talked about this," she pleaded. "I will try to be more careful in the future. I think I was being too casual, but I'm not going to let that stop me. I have every right to a fulfilling intimate life, and I intend to live it!" Emma exclaimed.

"Don't our marriage vows mean anything to you? Supporting each other in sickness and in health. Abandoning each other isn't an option when faced with difficulties," Josh said. "And yet, here you are, preferring to date someone else. It's time to make a choice: either end your relationship with Greg and work on our marriage with a psychologist, or I file for divorce on Monday," he said threateningly.

"You have no right to suggest such a thing, Josh Johnson! Don't even think about threatening me! If only I could be intimate with you and no one else!" Emma shouted. "It's unfair to blame me for something I have no control over just because you had an accident doesn't mean my love life should be ruined! I refuse to accept this! Instead, I'm going to go shopping, meet Greg, and take care of my own needs! If you want to discuss it tonight, we can, but don't try to control or limit my actions!" she said.

With that, Emma stormed out of the house, slamming the door so hard the windows shook. The silence that followed was unsettling. Father and daughter exchanged worried glances before Josh retreated to his room. Katie Johnson worried about her family's future, particularly her parents' marriage. Her father had never come into conflict with her mother, and although disagreements between them weren't uncommon, nothing seemed so serious. Deciding to leave this matter to her parents, Katie felt a sense of anxiety creep into her soul. For the first time in her life, unable to do anything, she gathered her thoughts and headed for Eric's house. Part of Emma secretly wished Josh would never fully recover, unsure if she could let Greg go. Greg had dominant qualities that didn't quite suit her, acting without hesitation, unlike Josh, who was always gentle and caring.

At dusk, Katie returned home to find her father resting in his room. The dim light from the slightly ajar bathroom door caught her attention. It dawned on her that her father must have turned on the light because none of the lamps in the room were so dim. "Dad," she whispered. He had his back to her but answered without turning around.

"Dad, I'm really sorry." Her words seemed to pierce his thoughts as he slowly sat up in bed and finally met his daughter's teary gaze. "What do you want to say? What is it?" he asked, confused. He stopped using the affectionate nicknames he usually called her after discovering she had helped her mother find a new partner. Even though she was crying, he couldn't bring himself to comfort her, feeling it was all a trap.

Katie came over and stood at the foot of the bed, apologizing for her actions. She explained she was just trying to help her mother, who was upset about his condition. Their gazes locked, confirming each other's unspoken understanding. Eric's father was grieving the loss of Mrs. Wilson. Eric confided in them that he constantly thought about her and longed for her presence. It was natural to assume they would find solace in each other's company, but at that moment, it dawned on them they had never considered how their actions would affect another person. "Wasn't that the reason behind their behavior?"

Josh was stunned by his daughter's unexpected reaction. He couldn't help but wonder if this was all a ruse, but decided to take her word for it. If he were caught off guard again, insulted, or betrayed, he would have to deal with it, but deep down, he felt relieved. He struggled with his own emotions, unable to do what he desperately wanted to do. When their eyes met and they exchanged fleeting smiles, Josh assured his daughter that the past was behind them. "I swear I will never allow myself to be plunged into this darkness again."

"I really hope so. I'm counting on you," she said.

"Are you thinking about leaving Mom?" Katie asked.

"I haven't made a final decision yet, dear, but it seems inevitable if she doesn't break up with Greg. Let's keep this between us. She has to change on her own, not because she's forced to," Josh said.

"Okay, Dad. I'm going upstairs."

"Oh, I broke up with Eric today," Josh tried to hide a smile. He had never approved of Eric and was glad to hear she had ended things with him.

"Why?" Katie asked, intrigued by the sudden confession.

Katie started to explain but then hesitated, searching for the right words. "Because my dad once told me Eric wasn't good enough for me, and now I see he was right. I realized my father was right in many ways." A grin spread across Josh's face as he saw his daughter maturing before his eyes. Katie walked over to her father and hugged him tightly. In a moment of awareness and gratitude, they realized these hugs were the first in a long time. Eventually, they let go of each other, exchanging smiles, and Josh watched as Katie quietly left the room and headed upstairs.

As soon as Josh heard the door click shut from outside, the warm feelings that had gripped him dissipated. He lay back down, closing his eyes. Soon after, Emma entered the bedroom, having showered at Greg's. Josh had advised her to come back after showering so she wouldn't smell like another man. "Can you help with the groceries?" he asked.

"What is it?" she asked.

"Josh, jokingly replied, "Are there any groceries at all?"

"Yes, Josh, I told you I was going grocery shopping, and I went," she replied.

Josh took the bags out of the car and placed them on the table, noticing there were no chilled or frozen foods in them. He found a receipt with a timestamp showing she had left the store almost 2 hours ago. Josh realized she had shopped before meeting Greg. Even though he had expected this, the evidence still shocked him. He silently put away the groceries and returned to the bedroom, wondering if it was worth investigating further. Emma had made her intentions clear, and now he had to decide what to do. "Something had to change."

"Do you want to discuss this further?" his wife asked. It was clear from her tone that she didn't think it would change anything.

"No, Emma, you've made your position clear," he replied.

Emma gave up. She cherished her husband and didn't want to lose him. He was not just her spouse but also the closest person she loved spending time with the most. Given the circumstances, she didn't think seeking her own intimate satisfaction was the right decision. Emma knew there was going to be a problem, and she wanted Josh to see it too. She nodded in satisfaction and went to the closet to choose an outfit. She was thinking about resuming intimacy with the husband she missed so much, but tonight wasn't the right time. When she got ready for bed, Josh was already asleep, or at least she thought he was.

Emma was furious when the divorce papers were served. Josh, being cautious, sent them to her home and stayed with Katie, staying in the guest room next to her room. Despite Emma's objections to the divorce, Josh hired a fierce lawyer who put in a lot of effort to defend his interests, anticipating Emma's next move. Josh took precautions and decided to be prepared for any further attempts on her part. The consultations began the same week the paperwork was filed, and Josh turned to a reputable psychologist. The psychologist confirmed that Josh was no longer at risk, and the judge agreed. The quarrel could have continued, but Katie intervened just in time to prevent Emma from causing more harm. Katie reminded her mother that Emma's needs shouldn't be above the vows and promises she made. "Life isn't always fair, but sometimes the right thing wins out. She had to support her husband and endure his suffering by his side," Katie stressed. Any further resistance would permanently damage their potential mother-daughter relationship. Emma, faced with losing both her husband and daughter, was forced to drop her objections to the divorce. Their house was sold, and Josh agreed to pay child support for several years, hoping the court would mandate it anyway. Emma found a two-bedroom apartment near her work and moved in.

After the divorce was finalized 8 months later, Josh was able to return to full-time work, but the bitterness of the divorce remained. Greg made it clear that his relationship with Emma was over. It turned out he had several other women, which made Emma lose her appeal now that she was no longer married. Katie continued to divide her time between both parents while attending college. Over time, Emma began to portray herself as a victim and continued to blame Josh for the divorce. Once again, Katie heard her mother say that if only Josh had been more understanding, their marriage wouldn't have ended.

Katie raised her voice, doubting that her mother was considering her father's feelings. Josh entered the dimly lit club around 1 PM on a Friday, seeking an escape from the confined space of the house. He was just looking for a brief moment of pleasure. After ordering a rum and coke at the bar, he glanced around the room and noticed a woman at the opposite end who seemed familiar, but he couldn't remember where he had seen her before. She was sitting with an almost empty glass of wine in front of her, her dark brown hair cascading down her back, her dress barely covering her chest. Josh studied her carefully, and memories came flooding back. A smile played on his lips as he raised his glass and walked toward her.

As he approached, she lifted her head and met his gaze. "Dr. Collins?" he asked uncertainly. She looked into his eyes and studied his face for a while before showing signs of recognition. Josh began to doubt himself, wondering if he had mistaken her for someone else. "I'm leaving Dr. Collins at the hospital. In the real world, my name is Vanessa," she replied. "It's been a long time. I'm sure you communicate with more patients than I do with experienced psychologists," she joked. "I remember names better than faces," she replied.

"Well, my name is Josh Johnson," he said. Vanessa thought about that name for a moment. While Josh waited for her to admit defeat, he watched her closely. He could have sworn he saw a spark light up in her mind. "Ah, Mr. Johnson. An unfaithful wife and a sudden encounter with a tree, if I recall correctly," she said.

"You remember correctly," he said, surprised. "We only talked a couple of times, almost 2 years ago."

"What coincidence! Would you like to join me?" Josh motioned for the bartender to pour them another round. "Thank you. I'm glad you're here. What brings you here tonight? Are you seeing someone?" she asked.

"Are you still married?"

"I'm trying to get married," Vanessa replied, a twinkle in her eyes hinting at her true intentions. Josh raised an eyebrow. "But I could have sworn not so long ago I saw an amazing ring on your finger."

Vanessa sighed. "Maybe it was there once. My divorce has recently been finalized. I wore rings in a vain attempt to save my marriage, but it was clear my ex-husband had other interests, for example, a young cashier and her friends."

"How are things in your marriage, Vanessa?" she asked.

"I'm sorry to say that I failed," Josh replied.

"Oh, are they still together?" she asked.

"This may shock you, but I haven't kept up with my ex-wife's relationship since the divorce. I have no idea," he replied. "And please, call me Josh, anything but Mr. Johnson," he pleaded, laughing.

"What did your wife call you?" Vanessa asked.

"Josh or Joshua," he replied.

"Would you like to dance?" Josh asked, motioning for the bartender to keep an eye on their drinks. Taking Vanessa by the hand, he led her to the dance floor, where they quickly found their rhythm to the upbeat music. When a fast song was replaced by a slower melody, they continued dancing, holding each other close. Vanessa wrapped her arms around Josh's neck, and he held her tightly, swaying to the music. As a man, Josh couldn't help but notice the lack of a bra under Vanessa's dress. Their eyes met for a moment before she rested her head on his shoulder. They remained in each other's arms as the second song began. Josh was captivated by the feeling of intimacy with this stunning, fragrant woman. When the song ended, Vanessa took advantage of the lull to express her feelings. "Josh, I'm tired of dancing, but I also feel incredibly lonely," she whispered softly in his ear.

"Why don't you take me home and do something about it?" Josh gently took her hand and led her back to the bar, paid the bill, and informed the bartender they were leaving. The bartender, not at all embarrassed, nodded in understanding. Since she arrived at the club by Uber, they got into Josh's car, and he drove them back to his apartment.

As soon as they were seated, Josh asked, "Vanessa, I know it's a little late to ask, but how much have you had to drink?"

"Just one glass of wine at the bar before you arrived. What's on your mind? Don't worry, Josh," he drove into the underground garage and took the elevator to his floor. Vanessa snuggled up to him, and they shared a few passionate kisses. As soon as the door closed, Vanessa quickly took off her dress, revealing herself.

"Oh my God, Vanessa, you look amazing!" Josh exclaimed.

"Thanks, Josh, but are you just going to stand there and watch?" she teased.

"No way, I'm not here just to watch," he replied with a mischievous smile. "But first, show me your bedroom," she requested.

Josh took her hand and led her down the hall, grateful Katie had gone to her mother's for the weekend. "Do you have any protection?" Vanessa asked when they entered his room. Josh nodded, took out a small supply from the bedside drawer, and placed them on the nightstand. After more than an hour of intense and passionate lovemaking, they returned to reality. Josh lay on his back, and Vanessa curled up next to him, feeling full and satisfied. They didn't fall completely asleep but were in a state of relaxation, suspended between sleep and wakefulness.

"Josh," she whispered.

"Yes," he muttered, waking up.

"I just remembered you mentioned a problem with intimacy. Do you remember that?" Vanessa asked.

Josh laughed softly. "Oh, yeah. It's not a problem anymore."

Vanessa's brows furrowed. "What happened?" she asked.

Josh explained, "A few months after the accident, I started to feel different. A tingling sensation, the best I can describe it, like the feeling when a paralyzed limb begins to regain sensation. This feeling lasted for several weeks. Despite still being technically married, my wife and I had been living separately for some time. I didn't feel it necessary to explain the situation to her since it didn't concern her. Over time, I began to experience morning cravings more frequently, sometimes even during the day. After 8 or 9 months, everything returned to normal. The doctors couldn't explain the sudden improvement. Despite numerous tests and scans, they couldn't pinpoint the exact cause of the changes. In the end, they decided it was a mysterious brain quirk. Maybe hitting a tree somehow fixed the situation. The truth remains unclear; it could have been a combination of the impact and the natural healing process of the brain. The exact reason may never be fully understood," he concluded.

"Then I consider myself lucky," Vanessa said with a soft smile. "Is it all right if I stay the night?" she asked.

"So, we're planning to get intimate again in the morning and then have breakfast together?" Josh asked playfully.

Vanessa grinned. "That sounds like a plan," she replied, her eyes twinkling with excitement. As they settled back into bed, Josh couldn't help but ask one last question. "Vanessa, do you think you're ready for a serious relationship?"

There was a moment of silence, and Josh worried he might have made a mistake, fearing he had scared her off. He half expected her to get out of bed and ask for a ride home, but Vanessa didn't move. She seemed to be considering his question carefully. "Can we discuss this in the morning?" she asked softly.

"Of course. Good night, Vanessa," Josh replied.

"Good night, Josh," Vanessa whispered back.

Vanessa woke up before Josh and saw that he was still sleeping peacefully. Deciding to let him rest, she quietly took a shower and then headed to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. Josh's question had caught her off guard the night before. She was definitely attracted to him, but she had been telling herself for months that she was happy without a romantic partner. In many ways, it was true; she had a stable job and friends and didn't necessarily need a man, but deep down, she couldn't deny that she wanted companionship.

Josh awoke to the smell of something delicious. He walked into the kitchen to find Vanessa wearing his shirt from the night before and an apron. "I was going to make you breakfast," she said, smiling.

"It's too late," Josh replied with a grin.

"Well, you can invite me to lunch instead," Vanessa suggested. She told him to take a quick shower, and by the time he returned, breakfast was ready. Josh joined her in the kitchen while she was setting the plates on the table: an omelet, several sausages, and a slice of buttered toast.

"I didn't know we had sausages in the freezer," Josh remarked, laughing.

"I was hoping they were still edible," Vanessa joked.

Josh tasted a piece and nodded. "Delicious," he said. Breakfast was relatively quiet. Josh tidied up the kitchen while Vanessa served the meal. They made small talk until they finished eating and loaded everything into the dishwasher.

Josh looked at Vanessa and asked, "Are you ready to talk?"

She hesitated for a moment before answering, "Mostly listen, Vanessa," he began. "I don't want to complicate things or invade your privacy. If you're only looking for a physical relationship, I'll understand. You don't owe me anything."

She nodded in agreement. "I just need to tell you something. Can we talk in the bedroom? I feel more at ease there." They walked hand in hand into the bedroom, where they sat facing each other on the bed. Vanessa squeezed Josh's hands tightly.

"Josh, even though we only met in person last night, I already see you as a wonderful person, and I really like you. But there's something important I need to tell you," she began. She took a deep breath. "I told you my husband left me for a younger woman, and that's true, but the real reason he left is that I can't have children. He wanted a family of his own and didn't want to consider adoption, so he left to find someone who could give him the children he wanted. He saw the absence of his own children as a sign of inadequacy and blamed me for it. After the divorce, he moved on quickly. As for his feelings afterward, I can't say for sure," Vanessa finished sadly.

Josh took her words in thoughtfully. "I'm over 40, Vanessa. I have an adult daughter, so having more children isn't a priority for me," he said reassuringly.

"It's nice to hear that," Vanessa replied. "I also want to be honest about something I'm not proud of. After the divorce, I was overwhelmed with feelings of self-doubt. I was getting older, and my husband had just left me for a woman almost half my age," Vanessa continued. "I'm 37, if you're wondering," she said, smiling lightly. The thought had crossed Josh's mind, but he hadn't brought it up. They both chuckled softly.

"I also felt incomplete, if that makes sense," Vanessa continued. "To be honest, I didn't feel like a real woman. How could I be considered one if I couldn't bear children?"

Josh nodded, understanding her feelings. "That makes sense," he said gently.

Vanessa continued, "I decided to prove my femininity in other ways. If I couldn't satisfy my desire to have children, I decided to satisfy my desire to please men. Often strangers. I took on the role of a femme fatale and never turned down an invitation to go home with someone who caught my interest. This went on for several months until I realized it was harmful and sought help from a therapist. Despite that, I continued behaving this way, though not as frequently, until I reached a tipping point and was able to break free from it."

Josh listened intently. "Were you doing something like that last night?" he asked, trying not to judge her but seeking clarity.

Vanessa paused, then nodded. "As a woman, I have needs, and sometimes I go out to fulfill them. But now I'm more selective. There have been many times when I returned home alone," she admitted.

"I suppose I should be grateful that I meet your standards," Josh said with a slight smile.

"Josh, I really value the time we've spent together, and I appreciate your honesty. I'd like to continue seeing you, but I want to be upfront about my past. I was recently tested, and thankfully, all the results were negative. I currently don't use any contraception, but if necessary, I can provide a certificate from my doctor. I think it would be good for both of us to get tested and commit to being exclusive," Vanessa suggested, her words coming out in a rush.

Josh sat silently for a few moments, making Vanessa feel both anxious and hopeful for his response. "It's not easy to open up to someone new," he finally said, "but I'm glad you took the chance to share this with me. I'm grateful you did because now I found someone who understands me and makes me happy. Thank you for sharing your story with me, Vanessa," he continued. "Many women lose interest in intimacy and prefer nonsexual forms of companionship as they age. I thought I'd have to find someone much older than myself or wait a few years to meet someone who shared my feelings. When my libido returned, I still didn't feel my best. I felt pressured to prove my masculinity by pursuing women. I used to have a pretty high opinion of myself, considering myself quite the lady's man. I wasn't more selective than anyone else; I had several casual encounters without much thought, but in the end, my luck ran out when I caught an unpleasant illness. I had to admit to the doctor that I didn't even know the names of my partners. While undergoing treatment, I started reflecting on my actions and behavior. I haven't had an unprotected encounter in a long time, but I'm willing to get tested and commit to being exclusive. Shall we give it a try?" he asked, his eyes meeting hers.

Vanessa blinked, already knowing her answer. "I'm sure we will," she replied to his rhetorical question.

By lunchtime, they had exhausted their supply of protective equipment. The anticipated encounter with Emma occurred about 3 months into Josh and Vanessa's relationship. Vanessa and Katie had developed a strong bond, and they got along great. Even though Josh and Vanessa had their own homes, they practically lived together, and it was clear to everyone that marriage was not far off. They decided to go to a club geared toward a more mature audience, where a DJ played tunes and the atmosphere was conducive to intimate conversations at the tables. Josh and Vanessa chatted animatedly, sipping drinks and enjoying each other's company. The evening started off perfectly. Vanessa was surprised when Josh's smile suddenly faded, and his gaze shifted curiously. She followed his line of sight and saw Emma approaching their table. Josh's expression turned neutral, while Emma's face lit up with a grin. Despite

The time that had passed. Emma still harbored bitterness over their divorce and was convinced she had done nothing wrong. Satisfying her needs with another man when her husband couldn't, didn't make her feel guilty. So when she approached the table, her intentions were far from friendly.

"Josh, I'm so glad to see you," Emma said, sarcasm dripping from her tone.

"Emma, this is Vanessa. Vanessa, this is my ex-wife," Emma reluctantly introduced them, wishing he didn't have to.

"Nice to meet you, Emma," Vanessa said, her voice polite and controlled. "I must admit, I haven't heard much about you."

Emma's response was bitter. "Yes, we got divorced. It's been over a year now. My life is no longer your concern, Josh," she stated firmly, hinting that she should leave them alone.

Emma quickly apologized, admitting she didn't want to interrupt their date. But then she added, "Vanessa, I have to tell you something."

"What is it?" Vanessa asked, glancing at Josh and then returning her attention to Emma. "I wouldn't recommend continuing a relationship with him. We broke up because he couldn't satisfy me anymore," Emma said with a spiteful grin.

Josh looked at Vanessa, waiting for her reaction. Vanessa stifled a laugh, raising her eyebrows at Josh in disbelief. "Is it true? You've never mentioned that," she asked.

Josh just shrugged, letting Vanessa take the lead in their conversation. Emma believed she had managed to sabotage Josh's relationship, just as he had destroyed her connection with Greg. She was sure she had the upper hand, but her triumph was short-lived. Remembering their recent meetings, she realized that what she had mistaken for a wish was something entirely different. Her smile quickly faded when she saw Vanessa and Josh exchange knowing glances.

Emma was left confused by this turn of events. "Wait, what are you saying, Josh? Are you saying this condition is really resolved?" Emma exclaimed. It turned out that Katie had kept Josh's personal life a secret from her mother during their interactions.

Emma, as always, took the news with a mix of disbelief and frustration. "But how is this possible? Have the doctors found a cure?" she asked, her voice a mixture of curiosity and disbelief.

Josh and Vanessa remained silent, watching Emma's growing agitation. "Come on, Josh, this issue led to our marriage collapse. I think I deserve an explanation," Emma demanded.

Josh's smile faded. "Emma, it was your actions that led to our marriage's breakdown, not my condition. You made choices that ultimately led to the end of our relationship. And as for what I do now that we're divorced, that's my business. You have no right to judge or demand answers from me. Yes, you can say that my condition played a role in our breakup, but I wouldn't have acted the way I did if things were different," he explained.

Emma, still not fully convinced, asked, "But what changed? Did the doctors finally find a solution?"

Josh replied calmly, "No, Emma. It was time. The doctors believe that the issues I had after the accident just needed time to heal. If you had been patient and supported me during my recovery, as our vows promised we would, we would still be together."

Emma was speechless, stunned by such a revelation. "I can't believe it. Maybe it's a sign," she whispered.

Josh shook his head. "It's not a sign, Emma. It's a consequence of choices we made. Vows to support each other, and when things got tough, you made a different choice," he said quietly.

Emma's eyes softened, and Josh asked, "Could you please leave us to enjoy the rest of our evening?"

After a moment of hesitation, Emma met Josh's gaze and admitted, "You were right, Josh. I made a mistake. I was selfish and I didn't think ahead. I should have been more patient. I ruined a good marriage, and I deeply regret my actions."

Emma hurried away, leaving Josh and Vanessa behind. They watched her disappear into the crowd, a feeling of pity mixed with relief washing over them. Josh then turned his attention back to Vanessa. "Shall we dance, my love?" he asked, extending his hand.

They spent the rest of the evening enjoying each other's company, watching as Emma spent the entire night looking for a companion. At the end of the evening, she left with a man clearly older than her, indicating she had been leading a promiscuous life.

Six months later, Josh and Vanessa exchanged vows and tied the knot. Katie had to deal with her mother's ongoing issues. It turned out that Emma was diagnosed with breast cancer, which greatly worried Katie. Of course, Josh comforted his daughter, hoping everything would be all right with Emma, but deep down, he realized that this might be karma catching up to someone who had been deceitful and hurtful.
