Very big events are happening right next to us in Iran, and perhaps a very big change is about to occur in Iran right now. I, on the other hand, watched Iranian state television throughout this process. I tried to reveal what messages they were giving with what strategies to control society. Therefore, as a result of this collapse, we can say that we are currently witnessing the events happening in Iran to some extent. So, what happened in Iran right now, Professor? The event actually starts like this. In 2025, Iran's rial already loses 45% of its value against the US dollar. Iran is already largely economically squeezed due to the conflicts with Israel, Israel bombing its nuclear facilities, and the United Nations imposing a complete economic embargo. The shopkeepers in the Grand Bazaar closing their shops at the very beginning of the protests is, to some extent, an indication of economic difficulties, both from the Iranian side, the Iranian government, and the official Iranian discourse. However, in just 7 days, this discourse has now been framed as sabotage, economic sabotage. That is, the action taken by the shopkeepers, which was an economic reaction, has now been turned into economic sabotage in the current discourse and the official state discourse. Therefore, the situation we are in now is that the protests are rapidly spreading everywhere, which is the biggest difference from previous protests. We see protests spreading throughout Iran. And I am now going to explain to you how the Iranian authorities and the state are addressing these protests and this situation. Now, Professor, you can see this very clearly. Iran, one way or another, has a state. It has a communication capability. What do I mean? The same language is used across the board. Remember, I talked about Venezuela just a few weeks ago. Voices are coming from everywhere. The message cannot be conveyed properly. It's not like that here. What do I mean, Professor? First of all, Iran does not call them protesters. All its state-affiliated media refer to them as rebels. Second, some of these rebels are also referred to as mercenaries. At least it is said that this ongoing process is actually mercenaries of America and Israel, especially the Israeli part will be shown much more clearly. I will give examples later. Mercenaries of Israel, and what is happening now is a continuation of the 12-day wars, the bombing process in June, which is called the 12-day wars, in a modified form. Therefore, the entire discourse is built upon this. Currently, Iranian state television and media are basing their main discourse on this and creating a division. What do they say? These are actually soldiers of the opposing side, and therefore, they are attacking us. And you see this everywhere. For example, a video is about to come. Now, what we see in this video is something very thoughtfully designed. Firstly, the location where this poster is placed is Palestine Square. So the name is important. Palestine Square is saying, "Be careful with your soldiers. Protect your soldiers." To whom? To Israel and America. Why? Because what is actually happening now is not this. Look, the discourse they have established is this: What is happening now is not a rebellion of our people against the economy or freedom. This is the message they are trying to convey to their own people. We are currently at war, and those in the streets are fundamentally not our people. They are actually soldiers of the opposing side. In a way, they are militarizing the area. And in every part of their discourse, as I will elaborate on later, we see this context exactly in the discourse of every individual affiliated with the state. And it is very interesting, after seeing the news about these protests, there is always a news report about the oppression committed by Israel in Gaza, Palestine. Now, the strategy they are using here is fundamentally this: They want to merge the current situation with the stance against the oppression that Israel is perceived to be committing by the societies of Israel and especially the majority of societies in the Middle East. Therefore, immediately after every protest footage, the oppression committed by Israel follows. Thus, what is the event being reduced to? They are trying to frame it as a continuation of the oppression in Gaza. So, what are they trying to do? At least among the protesters, they are trying to push all the protesters into an unjust position on a point where their state's view is very justified. Because they take the issue to the matter of Palestine and Gaza, and therefore, they always show news about Palestine after every protest. They always show the oppression committed by Israel there, and they try to frame it within this context. Another interesting thing is this, again, something thoughtfully designed. There is a statement by Khomeini. He makes these statements on January 9th. Normally, he is not a figure who appears on screen easily or mingles with people easily. Why? In the latest operations carried out by Israel, the assassination and killing of very high-ranking officials have undoubtedly led to much higher security measures. Therefore, as you can see from the media in recent times, if you research a little, you cannot see him easily mingling with the public. The date here is important. Why? This date is actually the beginning of the Kum Uprising. What is it? It is what formed the beginning of the process of the current Islamic government coming to power. He makes harsh statements in the newspaper, there are student movements, and suddenly that protest grows and grows, and the process of them coming to power begins. Therefore, he speaks there, but he does not end the matter there. They also do this in that speech. I will touch upon some features of the speech, some headlines, but during this speech, or rather, on that day, the families of the martyrs from the 12-day war were also brought together. See, they have again framed the issue within the war with Israel, on a day when the Kum Uprising, the uprising that led to their current coming to power with popular support, is being discussed. There is a speech in a context where this is framed. They clearly distinguish between rebels and the people. That is, there are people. Yes, they acknowledge that there are people with economic difficulties. But on the other hand, there are mercenaries and traitors. Now, he says, therefore, look, he brings the subject step by step, and I think he makes all the necessary touches and positions himself in a more accessible position for communication than other state officials. They are doing a very logical thing again. He says, well, there are economic difficulties, but he says, the way to solve this is not through street protests. "Resistance economy." Remember the talk about the "axis of resistance"? "Resistance economy" again, because there is a war. We have a strategy of an axis of resistance. He says we need to come together in a resistance economy. Of course, it is necessary to state that there is no explanation of what exactly this resistance economy is. I researched it a bit in the context of this speech, and there is not much behind it. Resistance economy means nothing more than adhering to state policies. He also gives a morale-boosting message to the security forces. They are fulfilling their national defense duty very well, and he praises their efforts to prevent chaos. So, he gives his own state's security forces a boost from behind. Then he gives hope to the entire society. He says that the Republic, this Islamic Republic, will not be affected by such storms, that it will defeat the enemy as it has defeated them many times before, and that its unity cannot be broken. And he also considers those who believe Trump's statements to be naive. He says, "You believe what Trump says, but you are naive, don't believe it. This is a trap." He makes this statement and also does this. He tells the officials, "Communicate with the protesters. Talk to them, listen to their problems." He says, "There should not be complete [something] with them." But when he says this, he says, "Protester, rebel," he makes a distinction. But we will come to something. Almost everyone participating in the actions is considered a rebel by the state's official stance. That is, the acceptance of who a protester is, is almost non-existent. But what is being attempted here, in my estimation, is this: "Look, we are communicating, we want to communicate as state officials, but we won't do it with rebels." Who is a protester? Is it clear? No. They are all considered rebels fundamentally. Therefore, the discourse is more towards his own supporters, not the other side. I should mention that, at least in my opinion. And of course, he praises this last thing as morale. "Iran's scientific and technical achievements, the strength of the nation, our capacity to resist the enemy's attempts to establish hegemony against sanctions is growing even more." He gives hope that we are getting better every day in our technological and [something]. I said, the distinction between protester and rebel. Now, we will start giving you news from the official sources again. In the state media, protesters are completely framed in a negative light. What does that mean? For example, one of the news reports is this. I am not using the exact word on YouTube, let's say "bad substance." Protesters, while using bad substances, there are images of some of the protesters using bad substances. By the way, we cannot show these images because of this. You can even see the media here. We forgot to play it, Professor. It's good that you reminded me. These images are not directly from Iranian state television because as of yesterday, I could not access any of them. Previously, I could access them with a VPN. As of yesterday, I could not access any of them. Therefore, we cannot see Iranian television here, and we will not be able to see these images, but you will see the news. Friends, it's as if all the protests are by three people. By the way, I watched that footage, I didn't record it, thinking I would record it later, due to my laziness, my stupidity, I don't know, I didn't know it would be like this. Yes, three people. They are using a substance, clearly. Then they go to the protests. But the media turns it into this: as if all the protesters are people who go there after using these substances, as if the majority of them are like that. In the news, that footage is constantly shown, and in that footage, they are constantly saying, "Look what the protester is doing. Look, they come here after using this. They are addicts." That's what they are trying to convey. Again, all the images shown on state television during these protests are entirely images of vandalism. That is, things being burned, things being destroyed. And again, what is it framed as? These are completely vandals. They are not people who actually want the good of this country. They have emerged entirely to cause harm. Let me read you an example of a news report. "On Thursday evening, in the events in English City, demonstrators damaged public property and caused damage across the country. In recent days, enemies, now they've included enemies, have called on the Iranian people to gather and revolt with numerous calls. However, the people have ignored these calls so far." Now you will see the images again, friends. In the news, you see many images of cars moving calmly, as if there is nothing on the road, as if there is no unrest. You can notice that this is constantly emphasized in the news. It's as if there are no protests, no actions. In fact, actions are currently taking place throughout Iran, but they don't show it, and generally, it's as if the calls for revolt are not being supported much. However, he says, "Unfortunately, yesterday evening, some young people and adolescents played this enemy game in our country and caused as much damage as possible to public property in the relevant province." Look, in the news presentation, they are completely portrayed as vandals, as destructive, and the public is not joining them. Therefore, if you are an ordinary person, or if you are a bit distant from the events, by participating, you are essentially placed within the framework of being a vandal. And in this news report, it also says, "Shopkeepers and artisans are closing their shutters because they are afraid that the rebels will damage their shops and raid them in the relevant city." Perhaps it is true to some extent. I won't make a judgment here, but closing the shutters was also part of the action to some extent. However, here, they are trying to frame that closing of shutters as an effort to protect themselves from these vandals. Again, it's very interesting, friends. On television, for example, two experts are discussing this issue. They are discussing these actions, these rebellions, and so on. The protests. However, while the man is speaking, missiles are being launched next to him. The images related to the actions are either vandalism or completely irrelevant. There are images showing Iran's military power. For example, that fish is very absurd. Missiles are being launched from the side. Then, when there is a break, images of cars calmly driving on the streets, continuing, are shown again. It's a great effort to frame it as if the protests don't exist at all, or if they do, they are completely limited, and it's a rebellion carried out by mercenaries and paid soldiers. And as I said, all state officials are giving the same message. Look, the Chief Prosecutor of Tehran, Ali Salehi, says: "Last night, a group of rebels, provocateurs, and mercenaries in Tehran attacked public and private property. They are attackers. They set fire to property and caused great destruction. Of course, we will take the harshest legal measures in response." Again, a member of the Government Information Council says the same thing, Professor: "This unrest is the second phase of Israel's war against Iran. The peace of the Iranian people is being destroyed with rebels and mercenaries." See, the second phase of the war, again, mercenaries and rebels. Common words are used in the discourse of all state officials, repeatedly, in the same way. There is no disunity. The same message is being conveyed, truly. And again, Trump's statements, you know, he addresses the Iranian people from there, saying, "We will intervene immediately." This is actually presented as the background to the reality of the government's own arguments. They say, "Look, you are watching Trump's statement, they even show a part of it. Then they say, 'See, Trump also admits that they are behind this. Therefore, these people here are Trump's men, Israel's men.'" By the way, here, while they are using Trump's statements and generally America's, the talk about Israel is conveyed more through the war, through the events in Gaza, and Trump's statements are presented as evidence to show that the Iranian government's own discourse is correct. She says, "According to her, this boundary both recognizes people's right to demand and prevents the destruction of society's social, economic, and psychological capital." So, the boundary drawn between the two is indeed the boundary between civil and responsible protest and destruction and rebellion. Therefore, she says, and I think it's a good example, I don't know if they thought of this themselves or if it was done, but let's not say too much, because it's clever. She gives an example that everyone can understand, but I think it's a bit distorted. Let's say, she says, "If children in a family are unhappy with their fathers, is the way to protest to break the windows and smash the television, or should they sit down and talk?" She says, "Protest is a right, but of course, it shouldn't be like this." So, she says, "Okay, but how should they do it?" On the one hand, they are not being listened to. On the other hand, professors also have their own discourse, which should not be ignored. When the entire framework is set up like this, I think some things fall behind. But as I said, when you first hear it, it might seem reasonable, but I personally think there are still question marks about what is happening below. Of course, now, the protesters are not just sitting around. I haven't watched the opposition media much. Recently, with all the censorship, truly incredible censorship has come. I said, I have looked at other media in other countries for ten years. Iran has truly become inaccessible. Even now, we are showing you something related to Iranian television. Everything is completely shut down. But when this process began, I also looked a bit at what was happening from the protesters' side. For example, there is the use of a different flag, a different symbol. It is not the flag of the current Islamic Republic of Iran. They use their own flag by changing a symbol there. Now, what is a flag? It is one of the biggest indicators of a country's independence. Remember, the same thing happened in Syria. When protests emerged against the Assad regime, we see the use of different flags here as well. Also, now there is very heavy media censorship in Iran. They have shut down everything. They have cut off the internet. Therefore, protesters are using different methods to continue these events. For example, there are many deaths, truly. The exact numbers are not known. I researched it. I don't want to give incorrect numbers. Something different comes from everywhere. It's not possible to get complete information. However, they are doing this: They are planning commemorations on the 5th, 15th, and 40th day of the deaths of those who have died. They say, "If someone has died, we will go out into the streets again on their 5th, 15th, and 40th day." Therefore, there is a use of these deaths as a communication tool and a gathering tool. Because you cannot use the internet, you cannot communicate with each other, you cannot organize. So what do we do? We gather on specific days of those who have died, on the days of their deaths. Therefore, it can be seen as a strategy to use it as a communication network for gathering. Similarly, they are spreading these news reports very quickly: "High-ranking officials have smuggled their assets." Now, what is happening here? It's the discourse of "we are winning." Why? Because the opposing side thinks they are losing, so they are smuggling their assets and looking for a way out abroad. They spread this information. Of course, in response to this information, the Iranian [something] does not do this. It does not fall into that trap and say, "Look, we are not smuggling." It acts as if it doesn't exist. Therefore, it never chooses a way to convey that discourse to its own audience. You know, there is disinformation here, or there is a mistake here, and they never deny it through their other media outlets. But we hear this a lot on protest channels. However, it is not reflected on Iranian state television. Of course, there is also this. It should be mentioned. Professor, although the use of social media is banned, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard also has a unit that uses social media. It has an official unit. And they conduct their fight against disinformation on social media. We can see that they do not do it through their official channels. Now, as I said, this was one of the most difficult videos for me. Especially in recent days, obtaining sources has become very problematic, but I did my best. I tried to be as objective as possible, but there is definitely my own subjectivity. But what is happening is, if we lean back a little and look, we see that this region is becoming chaotic.
