What's good, my people? We're bringing them sinister future type sounds today. So, let's lock in and cook something crazy from scratch. Grab your headphones. This one's different.
First thing first, we need some keys/pad type of sound. This one from this Dark Matter Analog Labs bank is perfect. Now, let's create a pattern we can render and flip. [Music] We're starting off in G minor at 140 BPM. Anywhere from 126 up to 170 BPM is perfect for making Dark Future/Southside melodies. [Music] Now let's add some halftime for that distorted pedal feel. And remember, trust the process. [Music]
Now let's play around with the rendered samples. Pitch to get a darker feel. This is where you can get experimental. I have my grid locked to cell and I'm playing with the time stretching to try distort the sample some more. [Music] I decided to stretch the sample to 2x speed because now we're about to add effects and flip it one more time. Some halftime. [Music] Output portal for more texture and distortion. [Music] These presets are all in my Portal V2 Electra X/Portal Bank. Links in the description to get it. Some Valhalla vintage verb with my special magic flute preset for more depth and spaciness. [Music]
Now for the real sauce. Valhalla delay for extra depth and dimensions. You don't need pedals to get that sound. Just an understanding of how they work and what they do. Then emulate it. [Music] Now arm record on the master mixer channel. Right click and drag to select your audio and record into the arrangement to capture all the added FX and textures. Sometimes just rendering it won't pick up on the randomized details and tones. And I've left on loop recording. That's to get a few variations. As you can see here, there's different levels on each newly recorded sample. And we want the one with the most details. [Music]
Now, select the clip you like the most and we'll use that for our top layer. [Music] Open the sample and click the normalize button to bring the sample up to its true loudness. That way we can hear everything in the mix. [Music] Now that is complete. We have a bass to build off of. Let's start by next adding some low piano notes from the SRX series piano. [Music]
Now let's change the pitch once more. This is to find that sweet spot. Some notes hit better than others for these type of beats, but it's all down to how it sounds to you. [Music] I usually double the root notes up one octave and lower the velocity to give it a deeper feeling. [Music] [Music]
Now it's time for that wheezy brass section. I also use the SRX series for the brass as I prefer them to most others on the market. [Music] Let's play around and try to find a pattern that works. Remember, trust the process. [Music] Crl+ L to snap the ends of the notes like this. [Music] Okay. So, I like how this brass section is sounding. Let's keep it moving. [Music] I like the progression we've laid out, but I want a richer wheezy type sounding brass section. [Music] Now for some EQ plus reverb for a more realistic feel. [Music] Some stereo imaging for width and space to fit around the existing samples. Hallelujah. Halleluah. [Music] [Music] [Music]
I feel like any wheezy/s southside collab wouldn't be complete without some dark evil strings from contact. [Music] And if you hear something that needs adjusting, don't leave it until last. It'll save you time, energy, and overall less momentum. [Music] Just adding some variation before I add the final parts to the sample and move on to the drums. [Music] Thank you. [Music] Hallelujah. Now to add the evil strings, we're going to use the Goto Bank Balkan Orchestra. [Music] Now open up contact. Go to the top right and pitch the instrument up 12 semmitones to give it that hellish feel. Let's add some more effects. Just follow along for this part. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] I'm going to copy and paste the main brass melody one octave down for a thicker, richer feeling. Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music]
