3 2 1 The $1 trillion shift has begun. [Music] What do you think about that? It is a little concerning. [Music] [Music]
All right, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the show. Today we are talking about Google Zero. What is Google Zero? Google Zero is the idea of Google going towards a no-click search engine. What does that mean? Well, that means if you go over and you search something on Google and you don't click, Google wins. Or so we would think.
Today we are going to talk about the future of SEO. We're going to talk about the future of Google search. We're going to talk about AI. We're going to hash it out. We are going to take from some of the top minds in the industry, some of the companies that have been dominating on Google for years, making billions of dollars. Ladies and gentlemen, there are trillions of dollars at stake here. This is a big, big update. This is one you don't want to miss. Smash the like button so that other people can see this and get the real scoop on what's going on because what we're seeing here is a lot of people talking about the death of SEO. Is SEO over as we know it? Can someone get in, build a blog, use AI, and get traffic for free like in the old days? Well, we're going to talk about that. And it might not be what you think.
In fact, just yesterday, I was messing around with one of my sites, not expecting any SEO activity at all. And lo and behold, the next day, it actually started ranking in Google, which you can see right here. I didn't even try to rank it. It just popped up. So, this is super important. You can see it there. We've been doing some things with um DeepSeek. We've been doing some things with Manis AI and more when it comes to AI search.
Now, when we're looking at this, we have to look at what the news is all about. There's a lot of stuff going on in the news about SEO. There's a lot of stuff going on like they're saying SEO is dead according to Google. We can also see lots and lots of news about AI taking jobs. We are on the precipice of a major, major shift. Those who pay attention now, those who get this now and understand how AI is going to work, I believe, in my opinion, that they are going to be poised to make a lot of money, probably more than ever in history for people like us to get started.
We can see that there are lots of people talking about this stuff. We talked um last week about a video called the zeroclick internet, which basically means would Google be one and done. Let me know what you guys think as a comment below and in the chat box. Do you think you'd like to go to Google and just get answers and that would be the end of it or do you like actually going to websites and researching? I was watching a couple videos earlier where they were talking about the zeroclick wasteland and this one where he was talking about Google ruining its search engine by just funneling people to AI garbage.
Now, this has been huge. If you guys have been paying attention to my channel over the last few years, if you haven't, we have all of the replays, including the videos we took down over at aiprofitscoop.com. We have pretty much everything on my blog, so it's all there, and you could watch it there, which is cool. If you've been following me for the last 2 years, you know that we have seen this coming. We've seen these changes happening right in front of us. Now, for me, it's been one of my most profitable times in business ever, which is really cool. For a lot of people, they've been struggling.
Just last week, or less than a week ago, Fiverr CEO accidentally leaked a message where he was saying, "Hey, wait a minute. the Fiverr, you know, it the job you have, you need to figure out a way to like basically get a new job because AI is taking over and that's what it's going to come for." He said, I'll quote it here. So, here's the unpleasant truth: AI is coming for your jobs. This is the CEO of Fiverr, a multi-hundred million dollar company. I think it might even be crossing into the billion dollar valuation. I'm not sure on that. But he's saying AI is coming for your jobs. Heck, it's coming for my job, too. This is a wakeup call. It doesn't matter if you're a programmer, designer, product manager, data scientist, lawyer, customer support rep, salesperson, finance group, dare I say writer. Also, AI is coming for you. You must understand that what was once considered easy tasks will no longer exist. What was considered hard tasks will be the new easy, and what was considered impossible will be the new hard. If you do not become an exceptional talent at what you do, a master, you will face the need for a new career change in a matter of months. This is the the CEO who runs a lot of these things.
Now, why do we bring up Fiverr? We bring up Fiverr because they are kind of the hub of a lot of little mini tasks that AI is is taking over. I mean, we're seeing this shift happen so fast. And a lot of people here are saying, "Hey, I'd like to go to Google and do research myself, which is good. I like that. I'm on the same vein as that." Now, when we go through, we have to ask ourselves what is happening. When we look at Google, you look at Google making, I don't know, $500 billion a year or whatever they make, about $200 million um of that comes from search directly, like search alone, search ad revenue, nothing else. Which means, is Google going to upend? Are they just going to go to AI and let AI do everything and jeopardize their entire business? Well, some people, I believe, uh, Muhar, I think that's how you say that other guy's name, um, who was up here in the video, I think he was saying, well, you know, it kind of seems like they do want to end their search engine, but what we need to do is we need to understand where the money's going.
Now, I did a video a couple about a year and a half ago about the 16 sites ruling Google. There are 16 websites or 16 businesses that own multiples of websites that basically run Google. They take billions and billions and billions of visitors from Google and they make a lot of money. We're going to bring those up. We're going to take a look at them. One of them is a company known as Dot Dash Meredith. Dot Dash Meredith is a very, very smart company. The CEO I listened to and I was like, "Wow, whatever that guy says, I want to listen to more of that because he seems like he knows what's going on and where the direction of these businesses is headed."
Now, why is this important? Well, this is important because a company like Dot Dash Meredith, let's go over to the board over here, and I will find a pen and we will map this out. I don't know if I have a marker here. Thought I had a marker. Maybe we'll just use the chalkboard over here. There we go. Fancy stuff, right? What we have is dot dash Meredith over here. And dot-mided, we'll put DM. Dot D-mered is a company that basically relies in a big part on Google search for their traffic. So, they rank for all kinds of things like how to tie a tie, how do I jump rope, best ways to do workouts, pretty much anything, what kind of plug do I need for my iPad? All of this stuff they rank for. Now, what's happening is Google is coming in, right? So, here's Google and they're like, "Hey, we got this search engine." And right now, while people are thinking SEO is dead, Google is still getting roughly I think it's like 8 million searches every minute or something crazy like that. Billions of searches every single day. So while people are thinking that SEO is dead, we have to rely on the fact that SEO is still getting searches. People are still looking at Google. All right. Now, for SEO to be dead, Google would have to be like, well, we're just going to put them to an AI bot that tells them answers and gives them AI ads or something like that. Okay, that hasn't happened yet. We don't know if it will. We shall see. dot-edith relies on ranking on Google for all of these different terms. There's a video in the description where we talked about WikiHow. Very similar business model. Billions of dollars at stake here. Hundreds of millions made by these companies by simply ranking on Google.
Now, just yesterday, I did a video. We used Manis. We ranked on Google. We got traffic. I got a new tracker. We're testing it. We're going to show you how it works. It's fantastic. Okay. So if we're looking at this, Google's a $500 billion a year company. Dot Dash Meredith, WikiHow, all of these other companies rely on Google traffic. So to say SEO is dead is to say these companies will go down the drain. However, SEO is not dead. SEO is changing. Now, whenever there is a change in any business model, there's what I call a gap. There's a gap that is going to widen between the old SEO style, the old SEO people, and the new. Many people will fall down this gap and be out of business. Lots of mom and pop stores, lots of SEOs, lots of website owners. We've seen it happen time and time again. How many of you guys are like, "Well, I'd rather make a bridge from here to here and actually capitalize instead of falling down the trap of," oh well, AI done took my job. As they say on South Park, they took our jobs, right? And we're going to look at this and we're going to be like, "Okay, what does this mean for us? How do we get in here?"
Well, let's take a look at dot dash Meredith. And if you guys appreciate these types of talks, smash a like button. The amount of research, even with AI, that went into this talk here was a lot. This one took a lot of work, a lot of effort, and I had to lean on my 25 years as an SEO expert person or whatever you want to call it. I don't think I'm an expert. I've gotten hundreds of millions of visitors from SEO, but I'm hardly an expert.
Now, going through, let's take a look at what dot dash Meredith said. If we were to pull this up here, we can get like a little mind map of what they were talking about: preparing for Google Zero. Will Google eventually go completely to zero? Will Google be a place where you go talk to a robot, you get answers, and go nowhere else? Maybe, maybe not. If you guys think so, type Google Zero in the box. If you think we're headed to a web where you go and it's like on the movie Big, if you're old enough to remember that one, I am. And he goes to the Zultar machine and he's like, "Hey, tell me my future." Right? Is that what we're getting to? Is Google going to be the all-wise sultan that we go to and get all of our answers and nothing else matters? Which, by the way, the big controversy here is that Google's AI was literally trained on the backs of our information as web developers. So basically, they were like, "Thank you. We had a good run. Now we're just going to take your information and run our own show." Okay, there's a big controversy here. There's a big controversy because we never had a choice. All of the stuff you upload to Facebook, all the stuff you upload to YouTube, all the stuff you upload on your website, your blog, everything has just been a free-for-all for AI to crawl and use however it sees fit. Unfortunately, having AI that is run on the internet, I don't think the internet shows the best of humanity, but we shall see what AI thinks of it as we go through.
So looking at this, let's take a look at what dot dashed CEO said about this. If you want notes, including links to podcasts, all the resources that I used to make this video, we're going to have that at downloadmyotes.com. You can see that in the box on the bottom. Now, when we're looking at this, what is he doing to plan? Well, he's going to return to rhetorical and important planning when it comes to what is search going to look like.
Now, if you guys have an AHF's account, I think Semrush might do it also. But what we're going to do is we can actually look at the search terms that have Google automated results. And I'll do this for you. I'm going to do it offscreen because, as you know, some Google searches are are not safe, right? Some Google searches are kind of interesting. So, we're going to do this offscreen and I'll just give you the numbers. Again, I will have these on my website. We will have a full list. Valyria is standing by to do notes on this. We'll have everything for you. But if I was go to ahrefs and I'll show you what I'm going to do and then I'll do it off screen. But what I'm going to do in ahrefs is I'm going to go to um keyword explorer. I'm going to enter nothing in and I'm going to have a parameter. So I'm going to set a filter after I put nothing in. Right? So, when I put nothing in, I'll I'll walk you through what this looks like and I'll give you the numbers. Okay. So, we're going to go ahead and search with nothing in there. Okay. When I search with nothing in there, let me see if I can get my whiteboard up here and I'll I'll just put the results here so you guys can see it. Whiteboard. Okay. So in the Google white or the Microsoft whiteboard rather, we're going to go through like this and we're going to see this is the amount of keywords in the AHF's database. This is the keywords they know about that people search for everything like that. Now there's probably some that don't exist, but it doesn't really matter because we're looking at this as a whole, not as a part. Okay? So we're going to look at as percentages. Now, if I go through and I use an AHF's filter, okay, there's little filters on there. Again, brings up all kinds of stuff. That's why we are not doing it on the main one here. And if I go through and add a filter or even a column, I can add a column for let's see, add filter. I think there's a way to go through and you can do SER. Oh, there it is. It's under SER features. on SER features. If I say I only want to see keywords out of those two billion keywords that include a featured snippet. Okay, featured snippet. What is that? That's when you go to Google and you see like a snippet. So, if I go through and I do like define mortgage. Okay. Um, a featured snippet would be like this here. That's a featured snippet. like a little boop. There you go. You could also have an AI overview. Now, out of the keywords, out of their entire keyword database. The amount out of the two billion that have featured snippets is 14 million. Okay, so those are featured. We'll do featured snippets. Featured snippets. And yes, ladies and gentlemen, this is the part of the video that is going to be boring, but boring equals money. Type it in if you agree with me and you're like, "Sometimes the most boring stuff makes a lot of money. We can't all be, you know, the fancy guy. Some of us just got to make a living with this stuff." And if you guys like that, smash the like button and we are going to do the next part. So now we're going to go through and I'm going to do SER features and I'm going to do AI overview and we're going to hit apply. Now on this we're going to see AI overviews which is new is taking up about 26 million keywords. All right. So as we go through we have two billion keywords. We have 26 million. So roughly 40ish million keywords out of two billion that are showing featured snippets or AI overviews. Now, of course, there are new things happening on the old Google where you can also have AI mode, right? Going up here, we could go to AI mode and it'll be like boom, there we go. That's something interesting. Now, again, you are going to see major changes happening. Why is this important? Because a lot of these businesses, a lot of SEOs have been trained to go for longtail keywords, right? We're going for keywords that are going through and bada bing bada bang. We got to look at that. Okay. So, what we're going to do is we're going to look at these and understand. Okay. It's not a huge bit of it, but it is a good bit. Now, a lot of these companies are relying on what we call Let me find my pen. One moment. Too many things to keep track of today. All right. There we go. So, what we have here, I'm back. Did you miss me? I wasn't gone that long. But what we're going to do is we're going to go through and we're going to look at these and say, "Okay, well, most SEOs have been going for long tail keywords." Okay, that says keywords. Longtail keywords. Now, some of these keywords are what we call zero click, zero money. Okay, a lot of SEOs have been talking about this stuff for years. We saw a popular SEO with a bird site. It was like, "Hey, what's the red bird in my backyard? Oh, that's a finch." or whatever it would say. I'm not a bird guy, but you could check that out. Now, that popular site got taken. I think it got deranked or something like that. And the I think the guy who owned it wasn't too sad because it wasn't really making that much money. Why? These types of searches don't make that much money. So now what we have to do is we have to look at what is Google heading towards. What do they want? There are some searches that are going to be there that will never go fully AI. There are some things that people just need to research. They need to do their own stuff. The minute we rely on AI for all of our searches and all our needs is that's a bad place, right? So we got to look at this and say what's happening here. Now again I'm going to bring back this report of the 16 companies that are dominating Google. Right? These are 16 companies that have hundreds of websites that are ranking at the top of Google and making lots and lots and lots of money. So understanding that is absolutely key. When we look at this, I'm actually going to take the sites that these companies own. We're going to throw them into a batch result of ahrefs. We're going to show you what they what kind of things they rank for, what kind of sites they are. Now before we get into that, let's take a look at the writing on the wall. What's going on? What are people going to look at? Unfortunately, here on the old internet, you have what is known as customized algorithms. Now, pay attention to this. This is something you are going to see in the future. Right now, the algorithms are trying to find what you want to consume. Right? So, the algorithms are out there. Here, here's me. Okay? I am this guy here. The algorithm wants to find what Marcus wants. Why does anyone want to answer that question? Why would the algorithm want to find what I'm interested in? And what is the hidden hidden danger and profit potential? Okay, what do we have here? Very important. These are super important if you get what I'm talking about. There was a video about a week ago, two weeks ago where Gary Vaynerchuk, Gary Vee, was talking about different trends and search stuff. Now Gary Vee says a lot of stuff. Some of it I think is way out there. Some of it is on point and some of it is just noise to get views. What we have to do is we have to look at what actually makes sense and we have to look at data. In the age of AI, it is so much more important to be in charge of the information you consume. Anytime I hint at politics here on my channel, people from the right, people from the left tell me what I need to watch. Okay, more about that in just a minute. There are fallacies in the way that we think. This is going to get big with AI. It's going to present a huge, huge trillion dollar opportunity. And it's going to help us understand as humans how to research and how to guard our mind. You are going to need to guard your mind. You need to choose what you are going to consume or you will get left behind. Why? The algorithms are there for one reason. They are there to keep you watching, keep you
Consuming, and keep you making money on ads. You are the product. Google is free. How do they make money? They are selling your attention. YouTube is free. How do they make money? They're selling your attention. Tik Tok is free. They make money. How? They're selling your attention. If you are not guarding your mind, you are going to get sucked down rabbit holes that are designed as traps to make money. Okay.
Now, why do I bring this up? Why is this important, Marcus? I just want to make money with SEO and know if it's going to go away or not. Pay attention. Because in the future, here is what you are going to have. You are going to have something called a personal. We saw Google like hinted at this. Let me move this over so that you guys can see me while I write this. Uh, Google hinted at this. Not a lot of people paid attention. What they said at the Google IO was that um, they said with permission we are going to let AI use your history and your data. Interesting. Why would they say that? Like they said it like oh it's a good thing. The AI is going to take your history and your data and it's going to serve you stuff you want. Okay, that's cool and all, but what you're going to have is personalized AI algorithms. Okay, we already saw this. What you see on Google and what I see on Google are two different things. Why? They're watching what we do. They're tracking it. They're looking at it.
So, if you can understand that this is going to happen and it's going to get inexpensive and anyone can do this kind of thing. Obviously, make sure you're following all the rules and the ethics and everything like that. Some companies don't do that and that's not good. We want to follow the rules. What we're going to understand is that this personal AI algorithm is designed to feed content to Marcus or whoever it is based on his wants and needs.
So, here's what's going to look like. It already looks like it. It's going to get worse with search. What's going to happen is Marcus is going to go out there and he's going to be like, "Hey, check it out." And you guys might already have this. Check it out. I watched a video on the death of SEO. I was like, "Hey, there we go." I watched like eight minutes out of a 12-minute video that signaled to the algorithm, "Hey, he likes this." Now, a lot of people think, "Oh, you know what, Marcus? The internet's about subscribers. If you have subscribers, that's the key." Doesn't care about subscribers. There are people with 10 million subscribers that get so few views it's not even funny. And there's a reason for that. Because people are not liking and engaging with their content. Like, engage, watch, consume. This is what drives the whole thing. This is where AI is going to start to change search. A lot of people think it's going to happen with, oh, the AI is just going to be there to tell you everything you want. Instead of looking for the best hammer, the AI is going to go through and take you through the history of hammers or whatever it is until you find the hammer. Not true.
There's another research bit I did. There's a thing on Google and on Ahrefs where you can sort by, let me pull up the exact thing for you. Again, we're going to have screenshots and notes at downloadmyotes.com. So what we're going to have is there is a filter in Ahrefs where you can do it's called CPS, clicks per search. So when we're talking about Google zero, what does that mean? That means you search Google. I go to Google and let's do an example here. I do a Google and I'm like, okay, best outfit for a date. Okay, so if I do best outfit for a date, all right, you're going to see AI snippet from Nordstrom. All right, you're going to see some other stuff. What to wear on a date, people also ask, all things like this. Okay, very important. And then it says top warning signs dating after 50. I'm guessing I don't know over 40. Maybe Google knows I'm over 40. Maybe it thinks I'm over 50. I don't know. Google thinks I'm old. But at any rate, looking at this, what you're going to see is I don't need to click. There it is. Hey, lowkey main focus, whatever. I can go dress casual on my date. I'm going to be fine. That's a zero-click search. However, okay, so we'll put CPS equals zero. However, if you were to search for something like a faucet or a let's say coffee pot or a new sofa, what's going to happen? Well, you're now going to get like if I sort in Ahrefs by CPS or clicks per search, the top one is the faucet one, right? So, now we're like, okay, the the top one is faucets and it came out at like 40. Why would that come out as 40, right? I think it was this one here. Crossandle bathroom faucet, 38 clicks per search.
Now, what does this mean? Back in the SEO days when, you know, I was just a a lad in the old business world, um, we would have what was known as how many clicks are you going to get if you rank number one, number two, number three. And they'd be like, oh, hey, 40% goes to number one, 20% goes to number two, this amount goes to number three. And what would happen is you would gauge how much traffic you're going to get obviously because as as SEO people, we wanted to get as much traffic as possible. We wanted to get tons of traffic because that's how we made money. And so we would focus on getting higher in the in the search engine ranking. Now, if you were to go for something like cross handle bathroom faucet, all right, first of all, you got Home Depot up there and then you have a bunch of images. Now, I'm gonna ask you guys, how many of you know why this gets 38 clicks per search? Meaning, I search one time. I'm on the page. I click 38 different things on this page. Why? Why would that work? Because if you understand why, then you're going to understand how to keep people on your site and your content longer, which is going to feed that AI algorithm, which is going to feed the new way search is going to work, which in turn will help you make money where a lot of people will struggle.
Now, again, when we talk about making money, I've made millions of dollars online. Again, most people make nothing. Most people watching videos trying to learn this make nothing. So we got to understand exactly how this works. Very very important. Okay. So now when we look at that 38 clicks per search meaning there's more clicks per search. Important. Now when going through this a lot of people are saying yes it is based on the choices. It's based on um the difference they're they're looking at. It's based on all these different things. Now, if they're researching or looking for a price or one of the interesting ones that people were searching for that got a lot of clicks per search was people looking for coupon codes. Interesting. Why would people why would you click 10 times if you're looking for a coupon code? Because none of them work, right? The problem with coupon rankings on Google is none of the damn coupons work. So, you can't really save any money. It is very difficult. Now they're switching things up and changing them. That's why coupon toolbars came in and got super popular because the people ranking on the stuff were not giving the good stuff and now the people that are doing the toolbars aren't doing good stuff. It's a big giant cycle. So understanding where this is headed and what's going on is super important. So clicks per search, remember this. Personalized AI algorithm, remember this. Write these down. If you don't write everything down, don't worry. We will have the notes, okay? and those will be up on the screen in just a minute. There you go. Download my notes.
Now, going through again, let's take a look at what else we have here. What is happening? Well, we're seeing AI overviews. We're seeing Google AI mode. We're seeing lots of people use ChatGPT instead of using Google, okay? Or or with Google or whatever you want to call it. They are starting to change the way that uh they are searching. ChatGPT is becoming more prominent now. I've noticed some of my sites are getting a lot of traffic from ChatGPT. How, why, how does that work? More about that in a minute.
Now, let's talk about where is the money. Okay, so here you have SEO over here. Okay, SEO is trillions and trillions of dollars. I don't even think you can calculate it because like somewhere there's some plumber that gets leads from Google. He doesn't pay anything yet. That does fuel an economy. So, I don't even think you can estimate or calculate, but I know it's in the trillions. Okay. So, starting to look at this and say, okay, we got trillions at stake. Where does it come from? Ads. It's where it comes from. Okay. Some ads are a penny. Some ads are $500 for one click. All right. What's the difference between one click and another click? Intent. AI is going to be able to predict intent. Okay? Now, think about this from a company like Google's standpoint. If I could know based on how someone searches, what they do, what they look at online, because obviously Chrome is owned by Google. So, I mean, there ain't much they don't know. And so if we start to say, well, what would happen if Google made an AI that was able to predict what you would want? Years ago, um, actually today marks my 11th year sober. Years ago, before I was sober, um, or actually after I was sober, like 10 years ago after I got out of rehab, I did a video about could I have predicted that I would need rehab. And the idea was, let's pull open my search history. Let's look at the things that I asked Google for help with. I asked for things like my mental clarity and alcohol. Does alcohol make you depressed? I asked all these different questions and the answer was a conclusive 100% yes. Yes, you could have predicted it. You could have predicted that. Why is that important? Okay. Does anyone know? I'm going to take a pause for dramatic effect and thank you for all the congrats. Why is that important? Okay, let's take a look here. I'm going to go over to SpyFu, which is a great tool for finding out what um certain keywords cost on Google. So, if I was to go through and let's do something like this. The question is why would that be important? That's important because if you were to look at a keyword like alcohol rehab, you are going to see $47 a click as per Google. So, if you could predict, I wanted that before the advertisers knew, you could have made a lot a lot a lot a lot of money. This is where AI is starting to head. This is what we're starting to see. It's a scary area. I mean, I'm like, yeah, I don't know if I'm ready for that. If you guys aren't ready for it, type not ready. Scary. Something like that. Because if you can understand this, we can understand kind of where it's going and navigate it. Because I think in history we've had a lot of changes, right? We've had like industrial revolution, we had the printing press, we had the invention of the internet, the invention of the automobile. Things have changed humanity in like a major way. And I think this is going to be one that we're on the precipice of a change that we can't even fathom what's going to happen.
Okay, now back to our story here. The 16 sites that are ruling Google and SEO and how you're going to make money. Okay, when we look at these, I went through and I put these into our tools here. Now, WikiHow, you're going to look at this graph and you be like, "Wait a minute, that looks bad." How many of you guys are like bad, right? Type type SEO no. If you guys are like, "Wait a minute, we went from 56 million visitors a month on WikiHow down to 50." That's a 10% drop in a matter of a couple of months. Now, WikiHow primarily ranks for keywords that are susceptible to featured snippets and AI overviews. Okay, remember we talked about this here. So, by percentage, I don't know what percentage 30 million would be of 2 billion. You can do the math. But what you're seeing here is a lot of WikiHouse traffic is in those areas. Now, this is web traffic as a whole, not just Google. So, overall, their web traffic is a little bit down. Here's another one. This is or that's the same one, isn't it? WikiHow. One of them. We'll do the other ones in just a minute. We're going to take a couple of these. We're going to give you a whole snapshot and we're going to give you the trajectory of where I think this is heading and what to do. Now this is the list of websites that I went through. We put them into Ahrefs and you can see here that a lot of them like uh the fan site uh WebMD is owned by these companies. A lot of these like I guarantee everyone here if you use the internet you've been on one of these sites at one time or another. These are owned by these companies. Now if we were to take a look at a couple of these and we were to go through and do like WebMD.com. All right, we have WebMD. Okay, look at this. 60 million 61 went up and now 54. Interesting. All right, let's take a look at a couple others. We got um Investopedia. This This is a big one. This has got some money tied to it. Lots lots of investment words and things like that. So, let's take this one here and let's take a look at data. Next time someone tells you SEO is dead, internet marketing is dead, you can't make money, even if it's me, look at data. People can lie. People can lie with data, but data looked at through your mind and your interpretation can be more factual. Okay? So like, yeah, you can be like the news and say, "Oh, you know, 50% of these blah blah blah," and manipulate numbers. You're open to stuff like that. However, data like this, like if I look at this and I say, is there traffic on the downturn? I could say it is. So, 31. So, they lost about 10% as well, 3 million. Okay.
Now, looking at this, we have to say to ourselves, one, does that traffic matter? There was a recent uh study done last year by um a gaming site. I think it was retro gaming site and they had lost a bunch of search engine rankings. I looked at their rankings. The stuff they lost wasn't really the money-making stuff, right? It was like, oh, you know, online console or something like that. One moment. So, it wasn't really a big deal. So we have to look at one the traffic we want. What kind of traffic do you want? This is something that I did recently. Um probably a fear decision based on something but nevertheless I did it recently and it it it turned out so far to be a good idea. And what I did is I said okay I was going on YouTube and I was making all these videos for anything and everything AI moneymaking related. All right. And I got anyone and everyone. I got a bunch of traffic. We were getting more views than ever before. I think our best month we had like 600,000 which to some people that's not much. To some people it's a lot. To me it put a lot of money in my pocket. So I was pretty happy about it. Now right now we are at like 150. So we are a fourth of the views we used to get. Okay. Ad revenue down, other revenue up. Why? Can anyone say why less traffic would make me more money? Okay, focused. Just because you can get views and traffic doesn't mean you should get views and traffic. If you have a channel focused on web hosting versus a channel focused on free website builders, the web hosting is going to make money way more than the free website builder one. A channel about all things AI make money AI will get everyone who wants to make money from every country, even countries that cannot afford your stuff. Might not be the best type of traffic. So these are lessons that we have to learn when it comes to AI. What I see happening is AI is taking over searches that AI should take over, right? Like there was a lot of people that were ranking I I know I think it was a year and a half ago we did a study on people that were ranking for Safeway drug Safeway um grocery store and they were ranking for Safeway grocery store but they weren't Safeway grocery store. It was all a bunch of junk sites. Somehow they manipulated the algorithm and showed up and that was bad and you know that that's what they did. But what we're seeing is, okay, would AI be better at where is the nearest grocery store? Yeah, I would be. Would AI be better at, you know, um, how do I fix my Nintendo, right? Yes, there are certain searches that AI is better for.
Now, to say that SEO is over, which I mean, I've had three webinars this week. Yes, I've been busy. Actually, two webinars. This is the that this is the second one. It's a two. Um, and on everyone, someone has told me SEO is dead. Emphatically, SEO is dead. SEO is not dead. SEO is changing. When you look at this, it's easy to say, "Oh my gosh, the traffic is going down." All right. There are some other ones you will see where the traffic actually goes up. Interesting. Wait a minute. Again, it has to do with what you want. Again, it has to do with that custom algorithm you are seeing. This is where you have to protect your mind. Okay? I think it was here it is what Marcus wants. There we go. This custom algorithm is going to be what is feeding you what you want. So, if you're watching videos about SEO is gone and the rise of AI, you're going to get pretty depressed because it's going to keep feeding you more of the same. More of the same. Now, is SEO changing? A,000%. The way we search, the way SEO works is changing. Okay, it's going towards a more personal way. Now, let's talk about some of the changes that are going to happen. We'll look at some more sites and show you some more examples and everything like that.
So, going through what are my predictions? First of all, I think with SEO, you're going to have an advertiser type change. This is going to shift money. And whenever money shifts, there are gaps where you can get in and you can help people. So, when this shift happens, pay attention if you're wanting like a side hustle or some kind of easy uh basic business. What happens is when the shift happens, okay, so you have all these people that are ranking on Google, you go and you're like, "Okay, tree service Orlando." Okay, when this goes AI and they're like, "Oh, the best tree service in Orlando is this, that, and the other." All of these tree companies are now going to need to find more traffic and they're going to spend money to do it. Okay? Service businesses are going to be huge. If you learn AI SEO where you could go through and you can rank AI SEO where you can go through and you can rank on ChatGPT when someone is asking questions about their Orlando tree and why did it fall over and can I cut a tree and can I do this, can I do that, then you can sell that lead or that click to those companies. I've been doing this for years. The first time I ran a pay-per-click search engine was like back in 2003, maybe even two. I think it was 2003 though. I had a search engine and it ranked for all kinds of words and I had a paperclick search engine on the back of it where I sold that traffic to people and it worked extremely well. Actually, one of our clients went on to become the top independent um cell phone service guys in in the country, right? He was like the the rep for all these different cell phone companies. He did incredibly well. Why did he do well? The understanding of why people search for what they search for and what they would actually want. Very, very important. Okay. We had lots of other clients who did really well in their markets. Still do well to this day because they understand the buying process, the funnel of searching and what the Google wants, what the companies want, what the customers want, everything like that. Now, we can use AI. Here's here's the good and the bad. The good is right now it is ridiculously easy to rank in Google. I don't know what happened. Like 6 months ago, a switch turned on. It
It was like 2003 again. It's like, basically, if you have content and it's there, you're going to get it, right? Um, 2003 was a fun time when I was in SEO back in 2003. Uh, we would basically get domain names like buying a business. We would build that business up; it ranked pretty much overnight. We get traffic, we'd make money. I remember being a kid; I was making 30 to $60,000 a month. Didn't really know that well. And I was like 20 at the time, 22 or something, like 23. I go with the year, right? And so I was out there and I was like, "Okay, now we fast forward to 2025. We are in June almost. What's happening?"
Well, things are getting ranked quick. Content is easier to make now than ever before. There's never been a time in history where it's been easier to make content. Video content, image content, codes, tools, calculators, words, books. You can make whatever you want. Okay. The downside is everyone can make whatever they want. So what you need to learn is one important word: positioning. Positioning.
Here's the problem. People who want to make money online, they want to rank in Google, they want to do SEO. The question is, what do I rank for? And more often than not, they're going for what can I rank for rather than what do I want to rank for? Okay, very important. What's going to happen when these changes take place? I believe, and it's already started, people will search less but get more. Okay? They're going to search less, but they're going to get more. So the 8 million people that search Google every minute, that's going to go down. The amount of traffic those 16 companies get from Google, that's going to go down. But they're going to get more, which will result in more targeted clicks and more money spent. Okay, are you guys seeing where we're going with this? You will be able to make more off of less by focusing on the right intent. Okay, very important because, as entrepreneurs, the most important thing we have is our decision-making process.
Got to understand that if you're not making decisions, which is your job as an entrepreneur—that's the only job you have—you make decisions. What am I going to do here? What am I going to do here? How am I going to build this? A lot of you are still asking, "How do I make money? How do I rank?" I know lots of people who rank on Google; they make so little money. It's like, why do you—why do you even do it? Right? Then they complain about, "Oh, I lost my ranking." Well, you're making money. No. Well, then why do you care, right? Who cares? You just want a vanity ranking, which some people do.
So, now starting to look at this, AI SEO is changing things. This is one where I—I did a little post on my economics explainer site, which we talked about in our video yesterday, which, by the way, by show of hands, how many of you guys really want to learn this? You're like, "I want to learn internet business," or "I want to learn this business." Type it in the box. Let me know because recently I've come out with some very long-winded videos. Some of the—in my opinion, and a couple of my students' opinions—some of the best videos I've ever come out with. Now, the views are low on them, and it's because I didn't position them that specific because I wanted a certain type of people. But go watch them. If you're missing out on them, you need to go watch them; very, very important.
But in yesterday's video, we went through and we used Manis AI to make content with a new plugin I have. Okay, we're going to have that plugin over at uh downloadotes.com. And I put that up and we made—I think it was 150 posts with Manis. I think it took Manis like 3 hours to make them all. And we actually started ranking for one of them, which is really cool. Okay. And it worked. I didn't even try to, and it ranked. Um, what we're going to look at here is the shifts that are happening. What I see happening: one, there is going to be a rise in branding value. Now, I've never been what much for, like, you know, all those social media people that are like, "You need a personal brand." I don't know if you need a personal brand. You just need some kind of place for people to go. Okay. So when we say brand, a lot of people think like Pepsi. Okay. That's a brand. There you go. There we got one there. Right. A lot of people think, "Okay, that's a—that's a brand." Okay? Or people say like personal brand, they think like the Kardashians or something like that. Okay? What we need is our brand is our place. Doesn't matter. I don't care if you know me as Marcus the affiliate marketing dude, whatever. Doesn't matter to me. You just need to remember where to go, right? You go to download.com. You get all the notes. You get all the stuff. That's all I need you to know.
So, what does this mean? This means the value of domains is going to go up. I've already seen this as a trend right this year. Domain values have gone up, especially in the realm of AI, especially in the realm of good, rememberable, memorable short domains. Okay, I've seen this go up. So, what does your old buddy Marcus teach? What has he been teaching for a long time? Domain buying values. Why? Good. How? Okay. Also, we're looking at the value of the brand. The brand and the domain and the traffic are one. Okay, got it? Brand, domain, traffic. This is why when people go out there and they don't know what niche they're in, but they want to make money, they need to know what niche they're in. It doesn't work if you don't know all this stuff because it's all going to fit together.
Now, with my economics explainer site, is that going to be a big SEO one? I don't know. Probably not that big. I mean, I don't—I did rank like in two hours, but hey. But what we're going to do is we're going to look at branding, domain values. These are two things we are going to see go up. Investing in the right domains could be a good move. Now, again, I'm not an investing expert or anything like that. That's what I'm doing. I've done that for a long time. I invest in domains; it—it does really, really well for me if I understand what I'm doing. In fact, economics explainer I bought for—I think it was 50 bucks plus the fee. So let's say 60, and it's ranking and it's good, and I could use it with a faceless channel. This is where you're going to see this. Okay, now that you have AI, you have no excuse. Okay, you're like, "Oh, Marcus, I can't make video." Now you can. I made that entire intro with Google V3. So, if anyone's got 20 bucks or whatever their Google cost, right, there you go. Uh, so short expired domain could be worth a lot. It always was. I believe it always will be. And correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure .com is still the king, queen, prince, and the horse, right? It's pretty much everything, like .com. If you have—and you have the .com, the .com will be worth more even though we're in the age of AI most of the time. Is that to say I wouldn't buy a good .net? Heck no. Of course I would. But we have no excuse.
So your brand is going to consist of a good domain. It's going to consist of a good content strategy. Okay? So, no longer is it going to be just rank in Google and that's the end of it. Okay, we're going to go through; we're going to have our domain; we're going to have our strategy. Our strategy is going to consist of SEO, of course. Why? Because SEO is the fundamentals of how people think of what they think, right? So, like if you look at a keyword and you're like, "best boots," you'll understand that people want the best boots for horse riding, the best boots for dancing, the best boots for going through the—the swamp, right? Whatever it is. So, we're going to look at SEO. We're going to look at video content. We're going to look at tools content. This is something I've been teaching here for quite some time. Some of my students have picked up on it and done really well. Some of them are struggling with it. We're trying to help you with that. And we need to understand that it's a mix of all. If I'm known across platforms as whatever my domain—go—my brand—this is—we're going to use these terms one and the same. Okay. My brand and my domain are one. My strategy is going to bring them in. Hopefully, I'll have tools and stuff that they'll remember to be able to come back, or I'll make something that makes them want to come back. Okay. Very important.
Now, what we're going to see in the change with SEO is it's going to go to attraction rather than promotion. Okay, SEO in a sense is promotion, right? Like I go out there, I rank for terms, those terms rank, I get traffic. Okay, cool. Now, what does Google want? Google, in a perfect world, wants your content to be so good that people flock to Google to get it. That's why when you see a website with lots of brand traffic, okay, when their top keyword gets a thousand searches a day and it's their brand name, that's a good sign. Okay, that boosts it up. That says, "Hey, people are interested in this. They're looking for it. They like it." Okay, very important. We also see attraction rather than promotion is about having things people want. If you are making content just for SEO, just to say, "I want Google to be happy, Google rank me." Okay, if you're just doing that—like if you're out there and you're like, "How many keywords do I need? How many title tags do I need? What does the meta stuff need to say?" That's old news. Why? Google wants your content to be so good, and your content should be so good. Let me say asterisk eventually. Okay, more about this in a minute. Smash the like button if you're digging this. Eventually, your content should be that good because nobody starts—the first draft of a book is hardly ever the best one. Okay, more about that in just a minute. If you're just out there trying to get Google to rank you and you can't share it on Facebook or make a YouTube video about it or give it to people who might want it to attract them, then your content's really just made for Google.
Back in the day, this was called MFA. Google hated it. It was a website made for AdSense. The idea was, I make websites, I take the traffic, it's garbage content, I run ads on it, I get a check. Yippity doo dah. I skate away into the sunset. MFA sites were pretty short-lived for the most part. Now what you have is MF—what are they called? Like ad websites. Yeah, they have like the ASOic. They have that terrible experience. It looks like this. If you guys have seen these sites, tell me. This is what the big fight with Google was about. You go to the website, and it's like top toasters, and you're reading this thing, and it's like, "The top toaster for toast is the toaster that should be toasted, and this one toast toasts better than any other toast." It'd be funny if this video started ranking for the word toast, right? But at any rate, you look at the toaster website, you see an ad over here, you see an ad over here, and an ad pops up on the bottom. Ads, ads, ads. And then even ads will pop up here blocking the content, and you're like, "I can't even read the web page because there's so many ads." How many of you guys have seen this? Type "too many ads" if you've seen this.
Now, again, what they're doing is a [Music] one-size-fits-all. They are hoping that the algorithm will feed enough ads that people will click on, either on purpose or not—unethically if you're doing not right. An ad should be clicked because someone wants to click it, not because of this garbage stuff that's going on here. And a lot of people are saying, "Yeah, I see these sites all the time. They make me mad." There we go. Here's our mad guy. Okay, it's apparently a mad cat. But at any rate, we're looking at this and like, "Okay, this is what they don't want." So, the people who did all this kind of, you know, bit the hand—you bit the hand that feeds you. And now what I've been preaching for a long time—did I ever do MFA type sites or sites with not that great of content just for ads? Yes. But I always had like the idea that I wanted to give them something better so that it would make more. So did I do that? Yeah. Back in the beginning, I had some sites like that. What I learned along the way—because the first time I heard that SEO was dead was back in 2006—SEO was 2006, 2008, 08—um, 2006, 2008. I heard Google was dead, and I saw—or SEO was dead, and my sites tanked, so I was like, "Yeah, of course it's dead; my sites are gone." Okay, that was me having small thinking. Here's Marcus here. He had a really small brain back then. And old—old small brain Marcus was like, "Oh, SEO is dead. It doesn't work anymore. Everything's bad." Unfortunately, my brain goes to the negative really quickly. And then it did. But I forgot, in 2008, people were still searching Google. And I mean, it's been what, 15 years since then, almost 12 years since then. And it's still going. Okay. So, I can't pay attention to that. I need to pay attention to fact. Did—did SEO change? Yes. Small brain Marcus went to pay-per-click, still made a bunch of money. But had I paid attention to the SEO stuff and not thrown the baby out with the bathwater, I probably would have made a lot more money, right? I mean, I'm going to show you everything I do in business, warts and all, because I think you can learn from me. I'm not the smartest tool in the shed. I'm not the best at everything. I'm okay at what I do, but I've learned a lot from my mistakes and from the good stuff I've done.
Back when SEO I thought was dead, I paid a guy $10,000 or paid a company $10,000 to teach me how to rank. It was a complete waste of time, a complete waste of money. I went to their live conference. I flew from California down to Atlanta for the live conference. I walked out on the live conference 'cause I was like, "This is just a sales pitch." So, I paid 10 grand to be sold to. How many of you guys feel that? You're like, "Yeah, I paid 10 grand, and I get a course, and they just sell me more stuff." Like, "What the hell? Talk about too many ads. That's too many ads." So, I left that conference and went and visited my grandpa 'cause I was like, "Hey, I ain't never going to be over here in Atlanta. I might as well go see grandpa 'cause this conference sucks." So, I left. And then I was like, "Okay, what do I need to do?" And I did pay-per-click. Now, that was me thinking, "Okay, SEO must be dead." But no, it shifted. And had I gotten in line with what shifted, which later I did come around—it just took me a while. I'm an old dog; it takes a while to learn some new tricks. And there I was. I was trying to do this, and I learned it. Had I learned that, I would have made a bunch.
Now, right now, you are here. Like you go into the mall, and it says, "You are here." You are here. There's a trillion-dollar shift happening. AI, SEO, all of these things are going to change. We see every day reports of jobs going away. I mean, you look at it now, people don't want to talk about this. They don't want to admit it. That video of the Fiverr uh—uh CEO kind of didn't do that well. Nobody cared. But what we're seeing is a lot of layoffs. We're seeing all kinds—this—this guy, he has a term for it that's—that's big—a lot of tech jobs. Microsoft laying off people, in my opinion. It's going to get ugly. It's going to get ugly fast. What do we need to do? We need to learn. Now, Kathleen says, "People don't want to work either." I think that's a generalization. We need to be careful of generalizations. "SEO is dead." "People don't want to work." "These people are lazy." "These people are strong." "Entrepreneurs are good." "These people—" Those are all generalizations. It doesn't matter. That's just what we say, and—and people say—what we need to do is we need to look at fact. Do people want to work? Yeah, there's lots of people who do want to work. Okay. So, whenever you do that—say, "Some SEO is dead." "Some people don't want to work." "Some things don't work anymore." "Some people are getting laid off." This will change the way that you talk to yourself. And on a personal note, this is stuff I worked hard for—changing my mindset. Not talking about the stuff like limiting beliefs and all that woo-woo stuff. I'm talking about like changing the fundamentals of how you talk to yourself about business. Okay? So, starting to look at this and say, "I'm going to change the way I think. I'm going to change what I look at. I'm going to change what I consume."
Now, again, I'm going to have notes from this talk as well as a link to this talk from the dot-edith guy. I was listening to it, and I was like, "Oh my gosh, this is like—this is what I've been saying for years." And to hear someone who runs a billion-dollar company say that was kind of cool. Uh, Neil—Neil Vogle was saying, "Okay, what is his philosophy looking like?" Let's go back to our mind map. It should open up here. There we go. Uh, pragmatic. The sky is not falling. Bad businesses remain bad. Good businesses remain good. How do I become a good business? How do I make good stuff? Right now, I got to tell you, as a 45-year-old YouTube content creator in the make money online space, sometimes it's difficult. Why? Because you have everyone in every country who just gets a computer and can make AI say whatever they want, can make content that isn't necessarily good, but it does go viral. Why? Because people want content that's like, "You're going to make a million dollars without doing anything. Just watch this video." All right? I refuse to make that kind of stuff. I want good stuff based on things that I've done, which is why my videos uh take a bit longer. So, bad business is bad. Good. It will get weeded out. It's a small snippet where the algorithms are going to be like, "Okay, let's find what's bad, what's good, what's—you know—not what's taking advantage of the traffic and what's actually working." Now, experience cycles—there was a Facebook traffic era; there was a day when if you were getting traffic on Facebook, you felt like you were nobody. However, there were people like me that were on Google because, quite frankly, I can't stand Facebook—um, but they were out there, and they were getting traffic. There's always someone making money with what you think you can't. Interesting. So, there's always someone making money with what you think you can't. Now, again, ethics and all that. I'm talking about like when you think you can't rank on Google, there's someone ranking on Google making money. Follow.
Okay. Robert says, "I learned how to be a good copywriter. Now AI does it better, but now I know it's solid." Okay. And—and looking at that and—and working is—is important, right? Looking at that and saying, "Okay, well, how do I become a better copywriter with the help of AI? How do I make my products better?" We went through—I could have—I could have been like, "Okay, everyone can create a course about how to make money. Whatever. I'm out." Or what I did is I decided to make my course better. We used AI, made tools, made all kinds of things. Um, Facebook traffic era, consistent message, build a real business, build a real business, cut out the middleman. Can I—like—I—I know that he was talking about how do you take traffic from Google, make it your traffic and make a business about it and then monetize that, right? So, it's like a cycle. Your brand will get the traffic. So these companies are built up like he was talking about—they ranked—um, allrecipes.com—recipe traffic is susceptible to AI overviews and things like that. Other traffic, like how-to traffic, is susceptible to all these things. So, starting to look at that, we have to understand, okay, well, can I get that traffic, and can I build my own—like people now go to recipes—the
The whole recipe site, because they know that site; they don't need to go to Google. They know that site is important. Um, also shifting economics of AI-driven search: where are ads going to get okay? OpenAI deal; they did a deal with OpenAI. Um, talking about rights to content because AI just came in and took the content. There were no rights; there was no explanation; there's no nothing. That's opening this entire new legal world of like, what are the rights of content owners?
Um, is it right that Google takes snippets from every website and says, "Well, you don't need a website anymore?" I don't know. Personally, some people worked really hard on that content. Spent a lot of money on it. And believe it or not, Google isn't the endpoint. Google's the starting point. Interesting. So, people are starting on Google, and it's not even the endpoint of the ad. Like when Google's making $50 on a click, that's not the endpoint. The guy who paid $50 is now making $1,000 or whatever when he sells a product.
Okay, does that make sense to everyone? Once you understand how the cogs of the internet business machine works, that's going to be key. And maybe actually, I think what we'll do in AI profit scoop—if you guys are not yet joined—we'll have an AI cog machine business overview to show you guys how it all works over there.
Okay, turning to ad tech. Um, looking at, okay, how are we going to go through with the ad technology and things like that. Uh, product priorities, company backgrounds, adapt to change. Okay, um, what does this look like? You can't rely on others. Okay, if you're relying on one place to get all your traffic, you're vulnerable. If you're relying on one algorithm, one middleman could be very, very quick. It could be fast and over.
Uh, media is a great business. Buying and selling media in our day and age is one of the best businesses out there. And there's so much money for someone to get started, even if you're new. If you know how to buy and sell media, or you know how to generate media that gets traffic, there you go.
Uh, constant adjustment. There's always going to be adjustment. There always is. This is a business. If you expect to set it up and get paid for life, well, you better have a good exit strategy and someone to buy it, because that's the only way you're going to do that.
Uh, what worked yesterday doesn't matter. A lot of people cling to what used to work and not what works now. Okay? A lot of people do, myself included. It's easy to be like, "Well, that worked yesterday. Why doesn't it work today?" Doesn't matter. What you got to do is got to figure out what works today. Today might be something on TikTok. Tomorrow might be SEO.
Now, with that said, SEO continues to work today. Even though people think it's dead and they get a little funeral and everything like that, it still works. It worked back in 1999 when I first started my business. It works today when done correctly. Now, is it the same today as it was back then? The algorithms have changed, but not a lot has. If you have good content, it's focused on what people want. You deliberately push it in front of the people who want it. Yeah, that still works today.
Okay. Uh, your job is to make things people love get in front of people in ways they want. This was like the takeaway. All right. The guy who—the CEO of dotdash Meredith, what was his name? It was up here somewhere—Neil Vogel. He said, "Make things people love. Get in front of people in ways they want." I remember—uh, there was also Jimmy—Mr. B—said, "It's easier to make one video to get 100 million views than it is 100 videos to get a million views."
Okay? Now, yes and no. For some people, it's easier to do this—the quantity—but not at the sacrifice for quality. Okay, very important. Extract value. Okay, how do you extract value? This is what people miss in the age of SEO. Why is a lot of SEO content and websites crap? How many of you guys have ever searched for something and you're like, "That didn't do it." And you're like, "Oh, that—that yeah, that doesn't work at all." Like, I went through and now I can't really do anything right. Um, and I didn't find what I was looking for. Why is it crap? Because it's easy. SEO pretty much has been easy for a long time.
Okay. So, if that's the case, SEO is easy means these people—most of them are terrible marketers. Getting ranked on Google does not make you a marketer. That just makes you get ranked on Google. That's all that means. Okay, I can get a Google ranking. Yay. That's pretty easy. Like, okay, you want to rank on Google? It's pretty easy. Oh, no, Marcus, you don't understand. It's hard. Well, if it's hard, you're going for the wrong keyword. Go for the right keyword; you'll find it is extremely easy. Extremely.
Okay. What that means—low barrier of entry—means they don't make much. Like right now, it's pretty easy to become a social media star. Like you go out there, you get a bunch of traffic, you do some things, whatever. Okay? It's pretty easy. Everyone in their brother is an influencer. Like everyone. You go outside, you yell, "Hey, influencer." There's got to be about five people who turn around. Why? Because it's pretty easy to get that traffic. But you have people getting 100 million views; they're making less than $100,000 a year. Why would someone with 100 million views make less than $100,000 a year? Because they're not a marketer. They're a social media star. They—they know how to get traffic. That's it.
Okay. So, starting to look at this and say, "Well, what if instead of focusing on bulk broad SEO, what if I do what Marcus has been teaching pretty much forever, which is go for one small thing and do it really, really well?" A lot of people look at these big gurus and these big businesses; they're like, "I'm going to do the Walmart business model." Well, Walmart can afford to have every product they have on their shelf. You can't. So, you need to have one product, and you need to sell it really, really, really well. That's what you need to do.
How do I generate a buzz around my product or service? Forget about SEO for a minute. How do I generate a buzz around my product or service? Well, if I have a new hard drive, right? I got these little hard drives. I love these hard drives. These things are awesome. They're super fast. Plug them in, drop your data, done, right? How do I generate traffic around that? How do I generate traffic around this other product? Become a promoter. Okay, that's what you are. You're a promoter. No, Marcus. I'm an SEO person. What does an SEO person do? They get traffic and promote stuff. Most are promoting crappy ads, which is why they're not making money, right? SEO plus marketing equals gold. SEO alone, yeah, you can make gold. There was—there's some guys that make $800,000 in one month off one site with junky ads, but it only lasted one month. Now they're out of business, right? Well, they got $800,000, and I think they were from India, so they're probably super rich over there. But if you understand that that's pretty rare, like there's one case study I heard where people did that, and it wasn't ethical. They did—um—domain abuse.
Okay, what if I learn to build around a product using AI? AI is a tool. AI can help us. It's not the enemy yet. I don't know if it ever will be. Hopefully not. AI, if you're listening, we like you. We want to coexist, right? But starting to look at that and say, "How can I use AI to help me create a buzz around whatever it is I want to promote?" That's the question. Because if you're asking, "How do I rank on Google for this keyword just because I want to rank on Google because it gets a lot of traffic? And I think if I have a lot of traffic, I can get people to an ad." Traffic doesn't always equal money.
Here's the thing. I ask people this all the time, and when I get a website, people come to me; they're like, "Marcus, you don't understand. My website is the best. This is the best website ever." And I ask myself this question internally when someone shows me their website. If I threw $1,000 worth of traffic to this website, would I get my thousand bucks back? I—I got to tell you 999 times out of a thousand the answer is no. And if you don't know how you're going to make money if you buy traffic, then you really don't have much when you do free traffic.
Now, with the exception—there's a lot of people on social media that dance around and talk about how much money they make. A lot of times they're doing scammy network marketing products or scammy, you know, pyramid scheme products or whatever. Not recommended, but they do get traffic. So, we'll learn how to get traffic. We will not pay attention to what does not work, right? And they're out there and they make all this stuff. So, traffic part is good. How do we monetize it in an ethical and good way that would work? That's what we have to do.
Um, let's see. So, one solution to fix one pain point for one targeted customer base. Bingo. It's exactly it. Uh, return says, "Is it true that more big sites you link to Amazon, eBay, the more traffic you get?" That is a complete myth. If you take a brand new website and you put links to Amazon and everything, that's not going to do anything. What is going to get you traffic is deliberate promotion. Okay, how am I going to get people to see my content?
So, first step one, either have a domain or if you have a domain with traffic. This is what we do in our high-ticket niches. We get domains like that explainer video one—uh—like the economics one. This is what we do. We get these domains. They have already some stuff built in. We build them up like businesses. We buy them at auction, build them up as businesses, watch what happens, and then we grow. Okay, it's a very simple process. Um, and it's fast; doesn't take too long. Or two, make something irresistible. Make it so good people can't help but share it. Right? You're like, "Oh, well, I post on social media. Nobody cares what I have to say." That's because what you're saying is not carriable. If you say something they care about, that'll work. And if you say something they care about and it doesn't get shared, then go out there and find the people who would share it. Right? Very important. These are very direct, deliberate ways to build businesses.
What does he say about the future of web pages? They're still going to make web pages. Uh, must be unscentimental, right? If you have a website or something or a brand and it just dies on the vine, oh well, next. This is a business. Um, current article page design is a declining asset, meaning one and done, stuff like that. I think he was talking about. So, looking at all this is—is key. Um, he was also talking about recipe content and AI. Um, so going—going through and looking at that is—is important.
So now, uh, Gary Vee was talking about a trend that he's seeing with live video—live video for sales. Something that started happening in China where people would have like their own home shopping network, which was kind of cool. So, looking at that was like, okay, we can kind of see a trend happening there. Now, when we go through and look at all the trends and things that are going on, when you look at the AI impact on search and SEO, again, we will have all these notes over at downloadmyotes.com, so you can check them out. But we'll go through and we'll look at some of these. Um, the dot-narrative zeroclick one. We can see uh traffic cannibalization, which is users finding answers on the search engine and the volume reducing, right?
What kind of traffic do you want? Okay, what kind of traffic do you want? This is important. A lot of people don't ask that. Um, let's take a look at some others here. This one was from uh navigating AI algorithm gauntlet. WikiHow's business model. And if you guys didn't see my WikiHow video, it's in the description. I put it there deliberately for you to watch after this one. It's very important that you watch it now while this is fresh in your mind. So, as soon as we close off, check that one out.
Um, looking at how WikiHow works, right? They—they are susceptible to zero click. That's why we're seeing this stuff here. Not all search terms are susceptible to zero click. Not all search terms will change. Not all search terms, as we saw here, are having AI overviews or featured snippets. I forget where our numbers are. They were on here somewhere. There they are, right over there. Right? Not all searches—look at that. It's less than—I think that's like less than 1%. So, to say SEO is dead is to completely ignore the facts. Is it changing? Absolutely. Is zero click becoming a big thing? Does Google want zero click? I mean, if I was to open up Google or let's say I'll open up Gemini because Gemini would probably know. Actually, I don't have Gemini on or do I? I think I have the free version of Gemini here. Let's say, how much does Google AdSense make Google? Because if you can do that, this is something that was learned early on, and this will give you insight into where Google's going. And again, this training, this talk is about insight into where Google is going. If you could predict this, you are on the precipice of a trillion-dollar shift. How many of you guys get this? How many of you guys get the magnitude of this? Smash that like button right now. Let me know. I see the vision because if you see this, it's huge.
Okay, so going through and looking at this—Google back in 2003, I think aside from like the monopoly stuff, which—okay, let's call a spade a spade. Unless radical government change stuff happens in regards to monopoly laws, is Google going to get away with having a search engine where they are the only thing you go to online? Probably not. Is that realistic? Probably not. All right, we have to look at these realistically. But one of the smartest moves Google made that drove them to big business that they are today. Okay, they were out there, and they were known as the 10 blue links. You go to Google; you get 10 blue links. And they were like, "Okay, cool. We get paid based on ads." 10% or less of the people searching Google click the ads. 90% are clicking the blue link websites. Okay, this is what zero-click search is all about. If all of this is gone—zero click, nothing. They just put ads, and you make money, and they're the only people who make money for the rest of the life, right? I'm being funny. But at any rate, someone at Google was like, "Hey, 90% of the traffic is going to websites. We don't get paid on that. We only get paid on ads." What if we made a code that showed the ads on these websites known as AdSense? I think in my opinion, this is the smartest move Google ever made. Like this is what—like to me, I was like, you're not making money on those. Allow the publishers to make money in the form of AdSense. Now you're making money on those. You split it with the ad person. Now you're making money on virtually a lot more of Google searches and clicks. How many of you guys see that? Type "brilliant move" if you're like, "Oh my god, that makes sense. That's cool." Now, there's a lot of AI moves they're making now. Some I think are smart. Some I think are like—like—um—this guy here said in our notes. Um, some I think are—are downright terrible. Let's see. Is this working? There we go. Some of them are downright terrible.
Now, if you were to look at Google search, so Google search alone is accounting for $175 billion. YouTube ads is $30—$31 billion of that. And check this out. So, let's map it out here. Let's—let's look at where the numbers work. Because if you could see this, like if you see these trends, guys, I—I don't know how to better teach you how to make money online than to spot these trends. This is what you got to learn. So, we look at Google. Google search equals $175 billion in 2023. YouTube ads, meaning ads you're watching while you're watching this video. All right. $31 billion. All right. Um, Google network ads. This is known as AdSense displayed by the Google network. This is saying it's another $31 billion. Okay, that number should be right. Yeah, 30. So, that—yeah, 31. $31.51 versus $31.31. So, $31 billion is from that. Do you think Google's just going to let that go away? I don't think so. I don't think so. If they care about their shareholders, I think they're not.
Let's take a look at AI's impact. What is the impact of AI overviews according to these sources? Changing search behavior. Expectation of direct answers. So, it's making people expect a direct answer. Okay. Interesting. So, they want a direct answer. So, if I have a website that's waffling around, ain't going to do that good. I see it all the time here on YouTube. People are like, "Your videos are too long." Well, I do that for a reason. The reason they're long is because there's different things I want to teach you that you need to go through the journey. Sometimes, this is where AI, I think, is going to threaten our thought process. Because sometimes in life, you need to go through it as a journey, not a destination. Sometimes the answer you think you want isn't the answer you need. These are things that you only learn by being a human, by going through life, right? Like there's things you try to teach your kids, right? I got kids; they're—they're in their 20s now. And sometimes you got to let them make their own mistakes because you're like, the only way they're going to learn that is by doing it. Unfortunately, as a parent, you—it's terrible, but that's the only way they're going to learn. How do I know that? That's the only way I learned. AI is not going to be like, "Oh, don't date that person," right? It's not going to do it. You have to go through it to learn it. That's why going through and watching a long video like this, there are different aha moments that you won't get if you didn't get the previous one. Understand? Like sometimes you think you know what you need. Sometimes I think I know what I need, but it's not always the right thing. Expectation of a direct answer, right? Am I sad? Okay. Like would AI answering that help me? Maybe not. Reduce need to click websites known as zero-click searches. Google becoming the destination. A lot of people think, okay, Google is going to become the destination. You just go to Google; you get there. I think if that's the case, ChatGPT is kind of winning. Like more people are going to ChatGPT as the destination than they are the other stuff, right? Thank you for that, Tang. Appreciate that. So, starting to look at that and thank you, Alan. If you guys like my stuff and you get a lot out of it, let me know. I actually do put a lot of work into these videos—um—more than I care to admit. But I really want to give you guys that experience so that you get the info in the way it's supposed to be presented. Okay? A lot of people are out there for the facts. Oh, how do I just get rich tomorrow? Okay, you might do that. I—I—I got rich—well, relatively rich—fairly quickly in my 20s. I didn't learn lessons. I screwed it up. Damn near lost everything. Could I have saved myself with a Google search? No. I needed to go through it. I needed to learn. I'm hard-headed. Google can't teach me nothing, right? AI can't teach me. I got to do what I got to do. Um, and also relinquishing that amount of control to an AI search. Think about the control you're giving if you're allowing it to be one and done. I remember—I'll give you guys a story. Uh, years ago, I used to be a preacher, and I was obsessed with the Bible and preaching and everything. And my family would always come to me and ask for things. And then when I wasn't a preacher, they'd go to someone else. And I remember one time we were arguing about a very, very deep philosophical Bible topic. And my dad and my stepmom called one of the pastor guys and they're like, "Hey, what do we think about this?" And first of all, I'm like, "You're calling the pastor to ask him what we think?" Like, "Aren't you supposed to think on your own?" But they called him.
He explained it in two seconds. They were like, "That's all I need. That's what we believe. That's the way it is. Case closed. No thought process, no nothing."
Unfortunately, a lot of people are like that. And I think AI is going to make us lazier with our thinking. And sadly, with the algorithm, do you realize how susceptible people are going to be to propaganda? Like when you think about the internet influencing certain things it shouldn't influence and what's going on there. What's going to happen when you have AI that can talk people into anything, right? What's going to happen here? I think there's going to be a big need to teach people how to think.
Luckily for me, uh, when I got out of rehab in 2014, I basically didn't work for a year, and I taught myself how to think again. And so I studied critical thinking. I studied how do we think? How does thought process work? Which is funny because in hindsight I'm like, hm, that kind of prepared me for AI, which I wouldn't have known happened. So good thing I went through those difficult things to learn what I learned. Um, so understanding that is key. But looking at that, it's it's going to be a scary area. Like if that's the destination and people just trust it as is, it's kind of scary. But anyway, okay.
Challenges for businesses and SEOs. Decrease organic traffic. Yes, but the traffic value will go up. The people who are going to survive in the future online as businesses are going to be the ones who learn to make traffic worth more. This is what I teach. This is what I do. Okay.
Um, how is zero-click affecting service business owners and local areas? So, zero-click search for service businesses. If you show up on the top and your contact info is in the search, they don't need to click. They can just call you. Much like the yellow pages, like they said, most people who went to the yellow pages knew the business they were looking for before they opened the yellow pages. Interesting stuff. Okay.
Competition for top search, AI overviews, difficulty capturing prospects early. Interesting. So, like being able to get someone before they know they want to buy something could be more hard, more difficult. Need to rethink SEO strategies. Content needs to be structured for AI. Thinking about how AI thinks of something. Ensuring content inclusion in overviews, measuring AI-driven search performance, overviews, opportunities, potential for free exposure or brand recognition. I fire up my software that shows me people on my site all the time. People are coming from Chat GPT on new websites that I just set up, coming from ChatGpt. Huge opportunity.
Um, rewards for structured, high-quality content. This is what I say all the time. Information structured differently can make you rich. Emphasis on user intent. Gone are going to be the days of I'm going to make a programmatic website about all the things people need to run faster. That that is phasing out. It's changing. There are ways people can get on top, unfortunately. Like we did a um training early on. There's a video, I'll link to it. It's here on the channel about the Colgate marketing strategy, I think it was, where we talked about Colgate and their brilliant marketing strategy. Whoever they have doing their Let me see if I can find it. Colgate. Colgate. Crest. Was it Crest or Colgate? One of them. Um, but we had a video where we talked about their marketing strategy and how they were capturing people because they're like, you would think, okay, they'd rank for toothpaste, whitening toothpaste, best toothpaste, better toothpaste, good toothpaste. That wasn't what they did. They actually had a different strategy altogether, which I think there's a lot you guys can learn from.
Um, and that's why we talk about this stuff on this channel. If you guys want to see more like that, type business breakdown. Um, I love making content like that. I loved making the Wikipedia one. Um, or not Wikipedia, WikiHow one. Um, I like that kind of stuff. That stuff fascinates me. I could talk about it all day every day.
Um, accuracy concerns. AI can make mistakes, and when you use AI as your therapist, it's not always the best thing. Um, but understanding, okay, people are still searching. This stuff is still working. Like these companies are still getting a lot of traffic. Um, and there are places for us like I have tested recently that yeah, I can rank alongside pretty big sites by having good stuff, right? How did I get a ranking for this one here? Let's see. Um, let's do AHFs. And I'm going to show you a ranking I have that has it gets traffic every day. There's always people on this page. I'm going to find it here and I'll show you what it looks like. Um, this one. So, this page here on my website, we changed the content about I think it was like a year ago, May of 2020. Yeah. So, about a year ago. So, we changed it a year ago. The page was there like this page has been there forever. I changed it a year ago, and the amount of traffic went up, right? So, the traffic here, and it gets way more traffic than this. Again, AHFs, like if you're relying on AHFs to be your Bible, it's not the Bible. Um, I get way more traffic. There's always, no matter what time of day it is, there's always three to 10 people on that page. Every time I open it up, it gets way more traffic than this. So, looking at this, how did we rank for all these keywords? Well, instead of just having content, I made a little tool. The tool cost me $1,000 a year to run or $700 a year to run. Um, but that tool was better content than text content. Now that you have AI, you can make these kind of things. Can you incorporate tools as part of content? Because if you can, now you're the destination. Does that make sense? How many of you guys are like, "Oh, that's an aha moment. I can make a tool that's actually content." Yes, I did that back with my my first mortgage website. We made tools, and they ranked. I didn't need extensive crazy explanations and text. I needed a tool cuz that's what people wanted. Very important.
So, when we look at all these things, what can we sum up? We can sum up the fact that Google is changing. Now, does anyone notice anything on this page? Okay. Anyone notice anything? I'm gonna leave it up a minute. I'll put me up here. Or no, I am up there. Okay, I'm on the right screen. Does anyone notice anything? We need the Jeopardy music, right? If you noticed it, economics explainer is ranking in the Google AI mode result, and it just went up yesterday. Okay, so AI SEO is going to be similar to SEO. I think it's going to be faster, right? Ranking things is faster than ever before. When I first started, you had to wait 6 months to get ranked and then 6 months for the change to happen, and then you had the Google dance, and Google would dance around and find the new sites, and it was a pain, but you know, sometimes it was fast if you knew what you're doing. And now what's going to happen is it's going to run even faster. So there is this shift happening. If you want to make money online, get a good domain, build a good website. We talk about that at highticketes.com. We actually set you up for that stuff. A lot of people that do that really, really like that program. Um, but if you just want free content, we got lots of free content here, too.
So, starting to understand how all this works. Starting to understand, okay, AI is changing the way search happens. If I could get ahead of the trend, I can work really good. This is one of the times where I'm coherent and sober. Luckily, I've been sober for a while, but where this change is happening when I am of sound mind and I've learned things and I can actually make it work. The key is have a sound mind. Focus. Look at things directly. Focus on helping people. Standalone content that would help even if Google didn't rank you. How can I make something so good I can't be ignored? And then if it doesn't rank right away, how can I go to TikTok and get traffic to it? How can I go to YouTube and get traffic to it? How can I go over here and get traffic to it? Or if I have a product that's good enough, how can I buy ads for it? How can I get out there? There is a window to make a lot of money for those paying attention. Again, the vast majority of people who watch my videos, buy courses, buy my courses, buy other courses, do anything, make nothing. Most people don't don't make anything. Most people don't make stuff happen. Being an entrepreneur is about making decisions. If you make bad decisions, you'll get bad results. If you make good decisions, you'll get good results. If you make insanely awesome decisions, you will get insanely awesome results.
In 2002, I got to tell you again, learn from me because I'm a lot like you. In 2022, I almost missed the AI hype. I remember it came in and I went through and I was like, "Oh man, wow. I didn't see that coming." But I was able to take advantage because I moved quick and I made it happen.
Um, looking at these things is super super important, and it's going to be easier to get left behind. If you feel info overload now, in a year, in 6 months, you're going to feel it even more. What is info overload? Info overload is the lack of the ability to make a decision. If you have info overload, it's because you're listening to gurus. You're not listening to your niche. That's why in our high-ticket niches, I go through I start you with a niche. If you're not starting there, you're struggling.
Uh, someone says, "If I get Simple Sites new updated, are you going to come with a free domain?" Um, yeah, I think we still have that promo going. Yeah, pretty sure. I mean, yeah, I have a lot of domains, so I don't think that'll be a problem. I'm currently using Chat GPT for Facebook games. Nice to create Facebook games. I'm feeling good off of AI Profit Scoop, thinking about the new simple sites. Yeah, AI Profit Scoop is an incredible course for 17 bucks. I like if you're not in that and you want to make money with AI, go in there. I mean, that's all we do. We talk AI. We got a whole team. It's all we do all day every day.
Um, sometimes at the end of the day, I just want to go like think about nothing because this is what I do all day every day, and this is what we we focus on. But understanding where Google's going in SEO and watching a lot of my videos. Like if you guys aren't binge-watching my videos, you should be because if you want to learn this, there's a lot that I put out even though they're long. Like let's face it, people come out and like, "Oh, your video is an hour." You don't have an hour a day to learn this stuff that could help you understand how to make a living or even save you money from buying guru courses. Right? A lot of people, they come to me, they're like, "Marcus, I spent $3,000 on a Shopify website." I'm like, "Great. What are you selling? Well, they said they'd put the top products on it. What is that going to do? Like, I could put the top products out on my lawn and put a sign. I probably won't sell any. Why? Cuz that's not marketing. That's messing around. Getting a like, if you're paying money for some fancy website that has no predetermined niche or no idea or no nothing, you're wasting your time and money. If you're out there and you're like, "This guru is going to put all these ads on there for me." You need to know what you're doing. You need to know the start point and the end point. All right? When it comes to business, if you don't know your niche, okay? Who are you talking to? And you don't know how you're going to make money, don't buy the guru product. Myself included. If you're like, "Oh, I heard the simple sites course is great. I heard a high-ticket niche is great." Good. If you don't understand what the niche is, which the high-ticket niche, obviously, you'll understand that, and where you're going to get money, that guru can't answer those questions in a sufficient way that makes sense. And I'm not talking about, well, the niche is Shopify, and it has the top 18 Shopify products. Okay, good luck. Have fun competing with Walmart and Amazon. You you think Walmart and Amazon are going to let you compete with them? No. You think you're going to rank on Google above Walmart and Amazon? No. These things are not going to happen. You need to know your market, and you need to know it good, and you need to learn it. But if you don't have a market, go watch my videos, get the high-ticket niche, do whatever you got to do to get your market. This is the most important thing. I have rarely, actually, I would say I've never seen a student of mine that didn't know their niche make money. Never. Why? Because you got to know that. You got to know what you're doing. Sometimes I'll talk about things like we had a video um it's now on AI Profit Scoop. It's no longer here, but we had it here, and it did really well. And it was about how to make a custom GPT. We had some students make GPTs. They did really good. Why? Because they understood the niche, understood what the GPT was for. Boom. That was their traffic method. It worked really, really well.
Um, so looking at that was key. But if you don't understand these two things, don't buy. Right? If you're like, "Oh, this guy promises blah blah blah." Yeah, anyone could promise anything. Birdie Mayof promised the moon, but nobody got the moon. Now he's sitting in jail or wherever he's at, right? You got to look at these things. And I would say in the age of AI, you need to learn to think for yourself. I will never forget it. I paid a lot of money and went through a lot of personal struggle, and I was in rehab, and by the grace of whatever is out there, um, I got this counselor who who spoke to me, right? I was like, "Okay, these other counselors I I switched. I switched. I switched, and this one was like I'm I'm taking Marcus, and I'm glad he did. Um, because he told me stand for something or fall for everything. Stand for something. Understand your stuff or fall for everything. In the age of AI, people are going to fall for everything because unfortunately we've been taught not to think. We've been taught to be think consumers. We've been taught to sit there and listen to Netflix. We've been taught whatever the news says is true. And I'm not saying, oh, hey, you know, fake news or whatever. That was just another ploy to get you to watch more fake stuff, right? Learn to think for yourself and learn why you need to think what you think. Learning why you think what you think is more important than what you think. That makes sense because why is the key? Learning that our brains are fallible. Even our memory, right? like they they thought years ago that oh hey if there's a court trial and they do hypnosis we can use that in court later they figured out okay that can't work because people were making up their own memories through hypnosis like they go there they make up their own memories and sometimes it's not true why because the way that a memory is created isn't always factual um and understanding this is key because now I'm free now I can say okay my brain can fallible. If I can learn how it thinks and how it works, then I can learn how AI thinks and how it works. So, good. That's going to be good in the age of making money with AI. It's been good for me. And starting to learn that is key. You are either a consumer. Okay? Because a lot of people, they're like, "Oh, I'm not a consumer. I don't buy a lot of stuff." Well, yeah, you do. But you're a consumer of media. You're a consumer of media. That's that's a highest commodity right now. Media, right? media makes more than a lot of factories. And what is it? It's just digital things on screens didn't exist before. You are a consumer of media. Okay? And a lot of times you don't even choose what you what media you want to consume. The algorithm chooses for you sadly. And you think about that and it's like, okay, I'm going to be like the one who woke up in the Matrix. I hate to use that because there's a lot of bad marketers that use that movie and like most of the movie was actually pretty crappy. The idea of the movie was good, but you're going to be like the ones that wake up and see behind it and see that the consumers are blindly consuming and it's being fed to them. Why? Because of ads. It's like the movie Wall-E. There's a better one. We're going to use Wall-E. A lot of people use that. we're gonna use Wall-E where they're they're riding around in their little seats on the Axiom and the AI is is handling everything for them. Even the captain didn't know what was going on. And we're looking at that like uh as says, watching TV is an act of consumption.
So, here's the deal. You either be a consumer or be a creator. You don't even have to be that good. How many of you guys saw the intro to this video? If you've been on here that long, let me know. And you were like, "That intro was pretty cool." Right? I did that because I didn't feel like doing a regular intro today. And I used AI to make it. Now, how I direct the AI is key. How do you direct the AI? A lot of people don't know how to do this. We teach that in AI Profit Scoop. How do you direct AI? How do you get a good piece of content and put it in front of the right people? How do we do all that? Uh, BP. Yeah, we'll do that with Simple Sites.
