Do you take things personally? Do you isolate when you're stressed out? Do you have perfectionist attitudes while you also procrastinate everything? You have a wounded inner child.
And what is a wounded inner child? Unresolved trauma. But what exactly is unresolved? What is left unresolved within you? It's those feelings that are unresolved. The feelings of abandonment, rejection, and unworthiness. And this has led to your wounded inner child. Your inner child, that's you, who feels abandoned, rejected, and unworthy. Why? Because childhood trauma. But that was childhood. So why do you still feel that way? And why do you still have this wounded child within you? Because now you're the one making them feel abandoned, rejected, and unworthy.
Let's talk about how to fix this. And just a warning, it's not easy. You're going to have to learn how to be a loving adult to yourself. And that's hard to do when you never had a loving adult to role model what that looks like. You may have never had an adult in your life tell you that you are worthy. And the adults in your life may have abandoned you. The adults in your life may have rejected you, especially during those times when you were sad, mad, frustrated, and impatient. They also didn't have the level of emotional availability to make you feel safe and secure. They didn't know how to help you regulate your emotions. They didn't help you to regulate your emotions. So, they made you feel like you were the problem.
That's why now you're taking everything personally and you feel like you have to be perfect. And quite frankly, all of that overthinking and perfectionist attitude is taking up a lot of energy. And it's taking up so much energy that now you can't get anything done. And so you're procrastinating and feeling like a failure. Now you're only failing yourself by failing to learn how to be a loving adult. You owe it to your little you to learn how to do this.
To be a loving adult means you have to let go of that perfectionist attitude because no kid wants to be set up for failure. So, while you're over there taking everything personally, you need to be over here, taking yourself more seriously. Listen to your feelings once in a while. And don't shame yourself for the feelings that you have. Hold them. Hold them like you would a small child. Comfort them like you would your own child and listen to them and give them compassion. That's what a loving adult would do.
