Okay, in this one, we're going to go over how to set up a newsletter step by step and high level. This is very easy to do. However, it does require you to bounce around to a lot of different aspects of the software, and that's typically where people get lost. So, I'm going to show you the exact workflow that I would follow if I was building this out myself.
First thing I would do is build the signup form. So, I'm going to go to my sites tab here in my lefthand menu. Up in the top submenu, I'm going to click on forms and I'm going to go to builder. From here, I'll click add form and I will start from scratch.
Now, this will open up the form builder. First thing I always encourage people to do is right here at the top, go ahead and name it because if you miss this now, you're going to forget and then you're going to be looking for your form and you're not going to remember what it was named since it's named form 7. So go ahead and name this. I would typically do name dash or business name-newsletter signup. So I'll do test newsletter signup so I can easily find it. And if you have multiple newsletters, just make sure you're segmenting here.
Now, on our form, we want to do the bare minimum number of questions needed, right? For a newsletter, really, all we need is name and email. So, we can go ahead and we can get rid of phone. We can go ahead and get rid of these. We're not asking for phone number. And I would not do first and last name. I would condense name down to one field. So, over here, I would either do full name or first name. So, go ahead and do full name. Drag it up above and just click on it and make sure it's required. It'll show the little asterisk here so you'll know it's required.
From here, you can click on your button. You can click on the the button element and you can change the text over here. You can change the colors. You can change the fonts. Everything. We're not going to get into all the design stuff right now, but you can completely customize that. From here, we can go ahead and click save. And now we have our newsletter signup.
Now, we need a place for our newsletter signup to live. And we're going to be back in the sites tab. And we're going to now go to the funnels section. And we can create a new funnel. Same name, business name dash newsletter signup. Go ahead and click create it. You could also put it in a folder with your lead gen funnels or however you want to stay organized. Just make sure that you're naming it clearly.
First thing I'm going to do is I'm going to go to settings here. I'm going to select my domain. I'm going to put my favicon in. I'm going to put my head tracking code in like my metapixels, anything else, etc. But main thing is we need to get our domain selected and make sure it's connected. We'll go ahead and click save.
Once this saves, we're just going to create the two steps that we need for a funnel. So, now we're going to click on add new step or import. And this is going to be our sign up page. So, we'll just name this sign up. And that's where our signup form will be. And then we just need a page that they will go to after they sign up for confirmation. So, we'll just do right here confirmation page.
Now, this is also the page or confirmation that if you were, let's say, running ads and you wanted to track your cost per signup, this is what the URL that you would ultimately give to Facebook to track when a signup comes in from ads. But speaking of URL, we want to go and customize these URLs because right now they're defaulting to the name of the step. So, sign up and confirmation page. We want to get more specific than that.
So, right here, we're going to click on sign up and we're going to click on publishing. And we're just going to add in business name dash newsletter dash signup. You can go ahead and copy that for the next one just to make it a little bit faster. And once we go ahead and publish that, we will see it reflected right here. So now we can see the URL is your website.com/test or your business name-newsletter-sign-up.
Now we'll go to confirmation page. We'll do the same thing. So, it's going to be your business name-newsletter dash and then we'll just remove sign up and we'll do confirmation. And that would be the unique URL that you would give meta or another place to track the conversion event.
Now that we've got our two URLs set up here, we're just going to go ahead and customize them real quick. So, you'll go and click on sign up. You can click create from blank. And I'm not going to go ahead and build this whole thing. Um, there are templates and that you can find for newsletters. It's very simple, but ultimately the only thing you absolutely need is to add a one column row with your form. And you're just going to go and select your newsletter form. This is why it's so important to name it clearly. So now we have our newsletter form on a page.
Last thing we need to do is click on our form redirect action. This is very important. We're going to do go to next step and we're going to save and publish once ready. Now, when someone fills that out, they'll go to our confirmation page.
From here, you're just going to go into your confirmation page and customize this. Bare minimum that you need is a full width row with a one column and then a headline just confirming, you know, hey, you're in, right? I would suggest you go a little bit more detailed. Maybe even put a video here. Again, the point of this is to show you how to build this out, uh, not to actually go and build out the whole funnel with you. I've got plenty other videos here on funnel building. There are plenty of templates. You can go find a newsletter page that you like, sign up for it, and just copy what they're doing. That's totally fine. But at least now you'll know what you need to build out. You can go ahead on your own and make it pretty.
So, now that you have your newsletter sign up and your newsletter page, you could go send people here and they could sign up and they'll go here into your contacts. But, we want to get a little bit more specific than that. We want to add some tags. I always want to tag my newsletter signups. This is going to make it way easier for when I actually want to send out a newsletter blast to just choose all the people subscribed to my newsletter and send it out to them.
So, what we're going to do here is go to automation and we're going to create a workflow. Start from scratch. And again, I would name this the same thing so everything's the same. Business name dash newsletter signup. The trigger is going to be the form submitted. And then we'll click add filter. And you're going to do form is and then find your newsletter form. Again, this is why naming it is so important. Save the trigger. So now whenever someone signs up for the for the newsletter, everything below here will happen.
We're going to go ahead and click search for tag and add contact tag. I would do a lead dash master list. I always do a lead master list. So if I want to contact all my leads regardless of where they came from at once, I can do so. Oh, they've all opted in. They've all consented for me to contact them. So, do a master list and then also do uh lead dash and then again business newsletter and go ahead and add that in. I'm not going to add it because I don't want to use it right now, but you would click add tag. And now everyone that signs up will be tagged in the CRM.
Uh now you also and I would recommend this would be to go ahead and send them a confirmation email just to say hey thanks so much for signing up. You're going to start receiving our newsletter and provide some value right away is one of the best things you could do. So hey thanks so much for signing up. Here's a free resource to accomplish XYZ. But you could do that by clicking send email and you could write out who it's from the from email the subject. You could write it out here or you could choose to to go from a template and that's what we're going to talk about here next.
Last thing you should be doing here is put together a template for your newsletter. So, anytime you're going to write out a new newsletter, whether it's a monthly thing, whether it's just based on promos, whatever it is, you can go ahead and not have to start from scratch. You can just choose a template. So, let's go over how to create that template and then we'll cover how to send a newsletter out to the people we just tagged and then you'll be all done and you'll have the knowledge to go ahead and make this happen for yourself.
So, we're going to go here to the marketing tab. We're going to click on emails right here and we're going to go to templates and we can create a folder. So I would recommend creating a folder and I would do newsletter templates because you might have a couple different templates. Maybe you're going to have a Christmas one, a holiday one, maybe there's some you want to switch things up a little bit. Uh but whatever reason, just put it in a folder. It makes it a little bit easier. And then we'll do create template. You can go to the design editor. And if you've ever used any email builder, Mailchimp, Active Campaign, it's going to be the same thing. It's just drag and drop.
I always recommend put in a footer. You really have to because this is what's going to give them the option to unsubscribe and legally you have to do that. So never forget to put your footer in. This view email and browser I always put at the bottom. And then I'll typically delete whatever headline they give me. And then you're just going to go in here and you could drag in your logo. Then you could click this little pencil right here to upload your logo. You could drag in buttons, of course. You could drag in text. If you want to say, "Hey, first name." You're just going to go into your text block and you're going to look for custom values right here. Contact, full name, first name. So, I'll say, "Hey, Mark." Go ahead and write your email. Save your template. Right? This is what's going to this is what you can come back to and just easily and quickly create new ones.
Same thing with the form. Don't forget to name it right here. So, I would do like uh same thing name uh business name newsletter template one because you might have multiple templates. Naming and organization is really key. Then you can go ahead and you can click save template.
Now, let's say we wanted to send a newsletter out to our people who have signed up using this template. I can come back in here to emails, but instead I'm going to go to campaigns. I'm going to create do new and then click your templates. And now this will bring me to all of our templates. So I can select newsletter template. Go ahead and select it. And now I'm creating an email with this template.
If I'm ready to send it, I can go ahead and click send or schedule. I can send it now. I can schedule it. If you are on a new email domain that has not been warmed up, which is probably a lot of you, uh, I would batch schedule this. So, let's say you have a list of a hundred people, I would send like 30 every hour until it's done. Uh, but either way, you can choose how you want to send it. You have to put in your sender email, your sender name in your subject line.
Now, here's where we're going to choose those people that are tagged. This is why that tag was so important. Where it says recipients, we're going to do choose contacts from tags. Click here on the plus button. And this is where you would find your newsletter tags. Right? So, you would select your newsletter and it would show how many people you're going to send it to. You could go ahead and click review and send. And it's that simple.
If you have any questions, put them down in the comments. I've got free resources and templates in the comments as well. My email's down there if you want to reach out directly. Thanks so much for watching. I'll see you next time. Peace.
