What is it? You know, what did Dr. Max say about being in good standing? Take a look at that because that kind of breaks it down for you.

Okay, you have all of that reference material already, but let me just kind of clarify even now. Okay, so there's a few things you need to complete in order to remain in good standing with us. So, one, um, for every semester you are supported by the intern credential, you must be fully registered for, fully paid for, fully attend, and receive credit for at least one intern support class. So, for you in the fall of 25, that will be educ and I'm signed up for that. I'm sorry. I'm signed up for that. No, you're not because it's not even offered yet. Oh, okay. So, um, so that class you're going to register through through continuing your professional education. In the first week of August, I will push out a gentle email to all of my interns reminding you folks, welcome you back and saying, "Hey, now's the time to register for your intern support class that you need." Okay? So, just look out for that email. Okay? Um, but you're going to register through, so it's a different system. So, you register through CAPE, and that is going to cost you $1,100. Please understand that it is not covered by financial aid. Okay? You just need to be prepared. Okay? That course will be synchronously online Fridays 4:30 to 7:10. You must be aware that they so typically it doesn't conflict with, you know, scheduling. So you just need to know cuz I know that my theater, my music people, you folks got a lot going on even outside of classes or, you know, school. You need to know that you cannot miss it. Okay. So if this might be a difficult conversation for you to have with your administration, but again, you cannot miss that class. Okay.

Um, so that's when I reiterate, okay? So, when you are online, you're just like this. Okay. Nothing new. Very similar to what we've done in our 4110 class. You're visible. You're you're participatory. You're on camera. You're turning in work. All of that good stuff. Okay.

Um, and then at the end of that course, okay, there's a couple other uh assignments that you're going to need to turn in. Okay, so one is the intern professional development plan. Okay, you saw an example of that in the digital folder. Um, you can copy it and make it your own. Basically, you are um create or you kind of brainstorming being self-reflective of your own teaching and saying these are my strengths and these are my challenges as it relates to the seven TPEs, and then you're setting goals for them for for yourself on how you're going to meet that. Okay. Um, typically you're going to just do that one time really in depth once. You might tweak it from semester to semester as your challenges might change or your strengths, you know, increase, but you know, you're not going to dramatically change it from semester to semester. Does that make sense? Mhm. Okay.

Um, the second piece is the clinical hours log. Okay. So, let me just back up a little bit because when you start clinical practice, you're also going to see a log very similar to the intern clinical hours log that I have in our folder. Okay? Or your 600 clinical practice hours, okay, that you will start to log that the 600 clinical practice hours that you're going to do with methods course. That's all of the the class, you know. So, all of the the teaching that you do and working with kids, okay, that's all of that time you log there. Okay. What we're talking about as an intern is the the professional development, the workshops, the trainings, the meetings that you do outside of class in order to prepare yourself to be a good classroom teacher. Does that make sense? Okay. So we're talking about that. Okay. So for every semester that you are an intern with us, you must accrue a minimum of 36 hours of general support and or supervision which you can get in multiple ways. Department meetings, faculty meetings, IEP meetings, 504 meetings. Okay. Um, PLC PLC meetings if I didn't say that already. um you will have a designated mentor teacher assigned to you from your district with whom you will collaborate between two and two and a half hours per week. If that doesn't happen, you need to let me know because that is a responsibility of your district. Okay? Um, I'm not worried that you're going to rack up those hours pretty quickly. It's just you need to log them. So in the welcome back letter, there is a section that says intern clinical hours log. Take a look at that section because it describes how you're supposed to log in. Okay. The second piece is your um 11.25 hours of English learner support and or and/or professional development. That needs to be more intentional. Some districts are great at putting out workshops or trainings for teachers on English learner supports, in some are not. Okay? Some districts don't even have that. Okay? In any event, you still need to get it. Okay? So, if you don't see anything come through your email feed on that, okay, then you can turn to your um your mentor teacher and say, "Hey, the next 12 weeks, I want to focus on e one hour a week on e supports." And you can log that. Does that make sense? Yes. Okay.

Now, what I didn't mention is the intern clinical hours log. You're only going to manipulate the two tabs of the intern support class you're currently taking. So for fall of 25, you will only manipulate EDUC6548 and 6548EL. Does that make sense? Yes. Okay. Um, so the log, the professional development plan, and the course, those are the things that you need. Okay. um, in order to remain in good standing with as an intern. Now, in the event that you are delinquent, meaning you don't do well in your course, regular coursework, if you don't pass your courses or you do not receive credit for an intern support class or you do not turn in your log or your development plan, we're gonna have a very difficult conversation. And that's when I will tell you, Matthew, that I'm sorry, but we're now going to invalidate your credential, and that can negatively impact your position. Most likely, you would lose your job because there's no way no other way that your district can actually support you legally to be honest. Got it. Yeah. I don't think that's going to happen. You're pretty on it. Thank you. So, I'm not worried about you. Okay. But I will tell you that I have about three to five interns every semester that I had to invalidate their credentials because they didn't get take care of business. You got to be on it. You have to be on it. This is not an easy road. Okay. But you know if I mean I I I've seen your work. I I think you're going to be okay. Um, you just just make sure that you be are you're just really well organized. Okay.

Yeah, I've had to do that this year just because um when you when your classes are so big, your brain kind of does stop working. Like I I do find my brain just being like forgetting words like oh yeah I meant to say frog. So it's like, you know, um yes I do understand. Um, yeah. So, it it's really about you have to take care of yourself as well. Okay. So, please make sure that you find some balance for yourself. You will get through this. I promise. Okay. Um, and I'm here to like, you know, pom poms in the air. I'm on the sidelines. Go, Matthew. Thank you.

Um, do you have any other questions or concerns that I can address? I don't think so. I mean, I'm I'm recording. I'm taking notes and I'm also recording on my uh iPhone notes just in case I miss something because I I want to have a record of this full conversation just to make sure I don't forget anything. I'm very OCD. So, um I think I've got everything. I think I've got everything perfectly fine. If you do have any further questions and you just want to chat about, hey, what does this sound like? You know, I'm trying to navigate, you know, conversations with my district. I'm happy to walk you through that. Um, if you have any questions about like the the the credential process and paperwork, that might be a better question for Lupita. Okay. Okay. Yeah. I think I think my main question would be um my big anxiety right now, just to be totally honest, is um I was going to do summer school this summer and everybody's like, "Okay, dude, do not because I'm I am pretty burnt out." Um, but my main thing is I I'm hoping to get paid throughout the summer still because having to get that my other thing I'd have to do is go get a construction job as I'm doing this and I I feel I I need to rest this summer from from this first year teaching. So, I'm just hoping I get everything turned in. I'm going to as soon as that email is going to be sent out, you said it's going to be sent out today. Oh, I'm going to I'm seriously going to send it to you right after we get off. Okay. I'm going to get on it today and try to get it sent over tomorrow and just I'm going to be, you know, okay. So, you know, and again, I I I mean, I was a high school teacher for 16 years, so I know what it's like, you know, um I But typically, your district gives you an option to either, you know, be 10-month employee or like you're a 10-month employee, but like you can be either paid 10 months or 12 months. I don't know if you've been offered that opportunity. Um, I typically took the 10 months because I can manage my own money and I like to manage my own money as opposed to, you know, letting my district do it. So, I would save I would put it away a little bit and be prepared for the summer. Sure. Um, again, that was just me, though. You know, sometimes it doesn't work for everyone else, you know. Um, so I get it. I I So, but again, please, whatever you do, I think that's good that you didn't work summer school. I know that it's probably a good thing to get some extra pay, but you got to you got to fill up your own bucket in order to, you know, give it back out in the fall. You know what I mean? Um, 100%. Well, take care of yourself. Okay. Thank you. Thank you. I will. I will.

Um, anything else I can do for you today? I don't think so. I think that that helps me. I super appreciate you meeting up with me. Um, it really does mean the world because I'm I'm just trying to take care of everything at this last minute here. So, you guys working with me and just pushing this through, it means a lot. So, thank you. Well, it not a problem. That's what we're here for. Um, it's funny and I I joke, but you are literally one of 12 interns that I've advised today. Wow. Yeah, that's intense. You all are coming out of the woodwork. I'm just Yeah, I know. Everyone, so I kind So, it's funny because like we've had this conversation before. I'm like, "All right, wait till your grades are done and then, you know, come talk to me." I guess I said that multiple times. Uh-huh. Sure. Sure. So now everyone's coming out. So Right. Right. Yeah. I can imagine that it's stressful though because you start to feel like a broken record like repeating the same thing. Well, that's the reason why I have the digital folder materials and I've made that recording because if you absolutely need to hear it again or you know need to go back to something, it's there. Gotcha. Um, but again, if you ever just want that human connection, I'm happy to jump on the phone with you. Happy to get on a Zoom. Okay. Sure. Sure. All right, Dr. Mick, you take care of yourself. Are you still at work? Yeah, I am. I am. Okay, leave. Yeah, go home. Yeah, I know. Sometimes I'm here till like 4:30, so I'm like Okay. Yeah. Yeah, I will. Look out for my email. You take care of yourself. Enjoy your summer. Okay. I will. Thank you. Okay. All right. Bye. Bye. Bye.
