Mek. Yeah, Colleen and Michael, 40,000 people evacuated. Hundreds of them have come here to the Garden Grove Sports Complex. Take a look behind me. You can see inside the gym area a lot of folks in the benches here just waiting to see what's going to happen next.
I want to talk to Mark Olson. He got evacuated this morning. You heard. How's it going, Mark? You told us that you got here around 9:00 in the morning, but you heard the sirens at 6 a.m. Tell me about that.
Yeah, well, at 630, we. I was woken up by the sirens going across our street, up and down, up and down. I first thought, why are they making this noise? I finally got some sleep, but then I was told that they were evacuating, so I grabbed some stuff and got out of there. You were able to go and get some breakfast and then you decided to come here around 930 this morning. What has it been like since you've been here?
It's been pleasant. The staff is great. They've fed us. They're about to give dinner and a movie. It's just the waiting. Yeah, yeah, the unknown. And not knowing exactly how they're going to attack this thing. What do you think about it in terms of how it's going to play out, and how long do you think you might be able to have to wait here?
It's yeah, I, I just wait, I feel more for my family who I've told what's happening because I didn't even know anything happened yesterday until my daughter, who lives 600 miles away, said, what is what is it about that spill? So. Yeah, they're making arrangements if we have to stay overnight. But it's just frustrating. I can hear the frustration in your voice. Mark, thank you very much for talking with us.
I do have one more evacuee I want to talk to very quickly. He actually lives very close to the area to talk to us about what you saw and heard this morning. So this morning when I woke up, I was getting ready for school. And then my mom was like, why aren't you going to school? And then I told her, there's no school today. And she was like, why? She got mad at me. And then when she went to go check it out, and then she got home and then she told me, you should, you probably shouldn't go to school today. And then my friend told me, do you want to you don't want to go to the, the rec room with us? Because that's where they're telling us to go. And then my friend's right there. And then what has it been like for you here? Because you've been here since about noon today, right?
Yeah, it, it I just walked around. There's not much to do here, but it's safe. So that's the most important thing. Thank you so much for talking with us.
