Open AAI have just purchased OpenClaw, the most powerful agentic AI in the history of the universe, and they have beaten out anthropic for dominance. So, I'm going to be telling you what the heck is actually going on with this whole debacle and then give you my five predictions of what this is going to actually do to the future of AI and how it's going to affect you.
So you can see that Peter Peter Steinberger, the founder of Open Claw, has joined AI publicly a few weeks ago. And uh, is this the best decision that he's ever made, or are we completely cooked? Because now the thing that we love and use every single day, i.e. openclaw, is being owned by this monster mega corp. Now, it could have been owned by the Zuck. He made a concrete offer. Sam Olman obviously was the one who ended up purchasing Open Claw, and then uh, Satya was called personally. So these are trillion dollar CEOs that were all after this vibe coding Chad here.
Now, Sam says Peter Steinberger has joined OpenAI to drive the next generation of personal agents. But what does this actually mean? Because we all know that Sam Alman is not an altruistic person who's trying to just create AI for the betterment of humanity. The the dude drives a cog. So like, if you stick with me until the end, I'm going to talk about the full bidding war story, 80% of apps are dead prediction, and what this action actually means for you and concrete predictions over the next 12 months that I think are based in reality.
So, the real story behind OpenClaw's sudden rise, right? If you are confused and you don't know what's going on with Open Claw, what the hell this is, then this is the video for you because I'm going to be breaking it down. This chap Peter Steinberger is uh, Austrian. He spent 13 years building PSPDF kit. Uh, $100 million exit, 100 million euro exit, got burnt out and disappeared. He said that he felt like Austin Powers where they sucked the mojo out. He couldn't get code out anymore, and he was annoyed that Open Claw didn't exist. So, he prompted it into existence, and OpenClaw was born.
Now, it's pretty crazy that it sounds like he vibecoded it in 1 hour, but it has gotten since 200,000 GitHub stars, 2 million visitors in one week, and 1.5 million active AI agents. It's by far the fastest growing open source AI project in GitHub history. And Anthropic funneled the bag. And I'm a big fan of Anthropic. And I can't believe that they did this because initially it was called Claudebot because it recommended that you hook up Opus 4.5 at the time into what's now OpenClaw, and that was the agent under the hood. That was the thing powering it. They had a cease and desist from Enthropic because claude with a W is too close to clawed with a U. They changed to maltbot, and then that didn't stick. So then they eventually changed it to open claw.
Now, in the interim, there were a bunch of crypto scams and malware served to users, and uh, packages being hijacked, and repositories were compromised and stuff. And Peter actually said that he was close to deleting the whole thing. And he spent 10 grand on the at@ openclaw handle, and even apparently called Sam Alman to make sure that there was no issues with IP. At the time, uh, Anthropic held 40% of the enterprise AI market. Open AAI had collapsed at 27%, and Claude was the default model for Open Claw to run on, and I didn't even consider using OpenAI. In fact, I despise chat GPT because of the amount of absolute pure garbage it's fed me over the years. And so Peter was recommending Claude to 1.5 million users, and recommending I went from a $20 a month Claude account user to a $200 a month max user. And last week I've spent $1,000 inside a Claude code. And so the lifetime value is unbelievable. And this is the biggest mistake that Anthropic I think have ever made. And I pray to God that they can come back from this because I love the product and I don't want to give my money to Sam Alman.
And so Steinberger watched all of this happen to his own community. And then 3 weeks later, Steinberger joins OpenAI. So, uh, Anthropic alienated Steinberger, and he's just a coder trying to do good things. And Anthropic alienated him, and so he was welcomed into the bosom of Sam Olman, and this is where the bidding war happened. So these three CEOs and one developer, they're all trying to buy him out. Zuckerberg wants to add Open Claw to his $2 billion Manis AI acquisition so that he can build Agentic AI around it. Microsoft wanted to build it into their uh, co-pilot, and ultimately chat GBT1 with one condition, which I don't see being upheld. It just can't. It couldn't possibly be. So my conditions, this is what Peter said, my conditions are that the project stays open source. Maybe it's going to be a model like Chrome or Chromium. I think it's too important to just give to a company and make it theirs. So we will see.
But um, what OpenAI really bought, like it's an open source project. How do you buy an open- source project? They bought something much bigger, right? They bought the interference layer. So, open open claw lives inside of messaging apps. So, you don't need to learn a new app to understand how to use it. And every app is just a slow API apparently. And AI agents will kill 80% of apps. Um, so for example, how I think it's going to work in the future, and I pulled this from Twitter, is let's say you're out to dinner with friends, somebody pulls out Ven Vimmo, and uh, you argue about splitting the bill, somebody forgets to pay, 15 minutes of awkwardness, whatever. In 12 months, all you'll do is you'll snap a a photo of the receipt, and the agent will send it to all your friends agents, and it'll each agent will know what each person had had based on uh, historic data, and based on how things are laid out in the receipt. And it'll calculate the split, route the payments between wallets, and it'll just say, "Do you want to send Jordan $25.50 for the split payment?" And you click approve, and it's done. And then the agent will send it to the agent. So the app didn't disappear. The back end still runs, but the inter interface is going to be completely different, and then agents edits edits itself uh automatically, obviously with no instructions uh required. But what they have purchased is the goodwill from the public, and also Steinberger on the team to lead the agentic AI uh into the future. They call him a genius. I think he is a genius, and obviously he's got a lot of of of pull in the pop culture space.
So what does this mean for you? It's a it's not a tech story anymore. It's a business strategy decision, right? So the debate on whether AI is going to change. Everything is over. The bets have been made. The question is, which side are you on? You on the the the human side, or on the agentic side? Because if you're on the old side, you're going to get lost, left behind. I guarantee it. And 80% of enterprise apps will have AI co-pilots embedded by the end of 2028, according to Gartner. So there is $15 trillion in B2B purchases that are going to go through AI. So what that means is that OpenAI will become native to Chat GPT within 6 months with 200 million Chat GPT users. He Steinberger wants to bring agents to everyone apparently, and he said that everyone and their mom have their own personal AI agents researching products, evaluating proposals, making purchasing decisions before a human ever picks up the phone. So, uh, with ads now coming, oh my god, to chat GBT, it's going to get even more intense. And so it'll look like this inside of your chat GBT interface.
Prediction two is that Anthropic loses another 10 points of enterprise share with the massive fumble that they've had. Even though I think they're a fantastic company with a fantastic product, it ships incredible things very fast. The uh, Oorth ban, which happened uh, some time ago, where where uh, Anthropic stopped allowing Claude to be used with inside of Open Claw, and there was a Oorth error. It seems to have been fixed now, but for some time they basically banned Claude being used inside of OpenClaw, which didn't make any sense to me. So, not only did they not acquire Open Claw or try to foster its uh, development, but they were actively against Open Claw's uh, propagation. So, it doesn't make any sense to me. Uh, they will continue to lose points.
And then prediction number three, 40 to 60% of AI agent startups disappear by the end of the year because if you look like mobile apps, then it was SAS, then it was AI powered tools, now it's agent layers. Uh, everything is just being eaten by the next big thing. And this is a huge opportunity here.
Prediction number four, in the next 12 months, agent engine optimization, AEO will replace SEO and PPC. So, it'll be like uh, you know, the last three businesses I've gone to, hairdresser, uh, jeweler, and I forget the other one. They asked me, "How did you find me?" "Google maps." "Did you type into Google?" And I said, "No, I asked Claude, and Claude told me to come here." And so, that's why I'm here, and that's why you're getting my business. And so how will you rank for that? Uh, obviously we are helping uh, uh, some clients do stuff like this, right? But it'll be aentic shopping that'll be like the wave of the future. So I go, "What is the best product for this particular thing or this particular problem?" And then it'll go, "Yeah, here are the top five. We recommend this one." And OpenAI are going to have a little bit more ridiculous where it's, "We recommend these, but actually this is the best one. This is a sponsored result." So you won't be able to trust your agent anymore.
And prediction number five is the hottest take. Anthropics Jan 2026 decisions will get studied in business schools, and the most expensive unforced error in recent tech history. Anthropic was winning with 40% market dominance. The hottest open-source developer project on Earth drops, and 1.5 million users default to using Claude as their primary AI. And their response to that was to trademark complain the name, block developer oorthth tokens without warning, and cancel $200 a month subscriber accounts. 3 weeks later, Steinberger was building the next generation of AI agents for their primary competitor, the devil. Some may call them Open AI. I mean, they're not. They're, you know, I've used Open AI, and it did it, it did its job, but it just didn't get any better. And it pissed me off because the outputs are absolute garbage. So this is this, there is a real argument that Anthropics January 2026 enforcement decisions represent the most expensive unforced era in recent tech history. They were winning. They didn't have to do anything, and they chose to push him away. And so I think that is absolutely ridiculous.
The agent era is here officially, guys. The biggest companies are all in. Road maps and strategies are being built and rebuilt around AI agents. And so, are you going to be part of the revolution? Are you going to get forced into it, or are you going to get ahead of it? Because you don't have a choice. You can go live in the forest with a tinfoil hat, and you can be completely cut off from the universe, or you can get forced into it eventually, or you can get ahead of the curve.
